This place can be hit or miss. Their crispy shrimp is awesome. Everything else seems to be dependent on who is doing the cooking that day. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. Even if you order the same thing??? Service can be slow and the staff isn't necessarily friendly...

It's official. I must be a sushi snob. I ordered 2 basic rolls--shrimp tempura, and eel. Both were soggy; disintegrated between my chopsticks. Both were seriously lacking in flavor, and I was forced to drown them in soy sauce, which I never do. I was starving, but I left some of each roll on the plate and called it a night. Disappointing....guess I've spoiled by East coast sushi joints!

TL;DR After coming here for 8 years, the shouting match I just got in with the cook leads myself and my wife to never come to this restaurant again. There are few times where you absolutely swear off a restaurant after 8 years of patronage but today was that day. My wife and I had our first date for lunch at Mikado 8 years ago so it has always held a special place for us but we were just treated so rudely we will never be back. I have eaten the special noodle soup a solid 80% of the time I've gone to Mikado. It used to be a wonderful giant bowl of udon, vegetables, shrimp, squid, clams and a spicy seafood broth that was amazing. What I was served today was not nearly what I expected. A broth so bland I couldn't even taste seafood in it, 4 pieces of shrimp, and 3 to 5 pieces of squid. The volume of noodles and veg was still on par but the heart of the soup was torn out. I let the server know that the soup was not what I expected and was disappointing. Shortly after the cook came out to argue with me that the soup was fine, and asked me in a accusatory tone why would I eat the shrimp and then return the soup implying that I was asking to have the soup for free when I hadn't even requested I just didn't want to eat any more. I was trying to explain to him the soup wasn't what it used to be which led to a shouting match between the cook and myself. Finally he tells my wife and myself to get the f!@% out so we start walking toward the door and then he shouts that he'll call the cops if we don't pay for the food she ate. My wife and I have been eating at Mikado for 8 years but never again.

I was meeting my husband and his friends from work for lunch. I'm a big fan of ginger dressing, so I ordered a side salad, a veggie roll and tamago. The salad was drenched in the most disgusting, thick heart attack filled sauce. It was a mix of white sauce a ton of mayo with a touch of ginger than you can barely taste unless you try really hard. I couldn't take a second bite from that salad. The roll came out and it was the tiniest excuse of a veggie roll I have ever seen. I didn't like the rubbery taste of the tamago either. Needless to say I'm going to Taco Roc right after, this was the first and last time I ever come here.

After getting their takeout, I was shocked that this place had a 3-4 star rating. When we pulled up to the restaurant, we entered through a brown door that had paint literally peeling off of it. Once we were inside, our first impression was of a dilapidated back room with a broken down fountain and children's toys strewn everywhere. Still, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try their food. It was awful. The sweet and sour chicken tasted just like ketchup. Mostly, the food had little to no flavor, and when it did, I wished I couldn't taste it.

Unsatisfactory in almost every way. I ordered the lunch Shrimp with Vegetables, salad, miso soup, and shared a plate of octopus sashimi with my fiance. The lettuce mix in the salad was downright anemic, and the dressing was a weird, creamy, white sauce type thing. The miso soup was good; I think it came from a package. The octopus was really not fresh, and there was grit around it. There wasn't enough wasabi served with it, just a tiny smear, and the ginger was just one tough piece. I didn't mind the shrimp with vegetables, probably because I wasn't expecting amazing flavor from such a basic dish - it tasted like shrimp, broccoli, zucchini, et cetera. Nothing more. I like those flavors, though. My fiance was really unimpressed with his beef with vegetables and said it was inexcusably bland. He also found the won ton soup disappointing: a single won ton in a bowl of chicken broth without even a token green onion. Service was rather slow and a bit scattershot. Overall, the food was meh. Soup and salad edible, sashimi not worth it, entree edible. It turned out to be the most expensive ($22.60) bad lunch I've had in a long time.

I really hate how terrible this place has gotten over the past few years. Cold soup and very clear and apparent most things are store bought now instead of made in house.

Perfection in a bowl! Anyone can prepare a #3 with fried rice... only an expert can create a noodle bowl, cup of hot & sour, or a genuine mongolian beef with such flavor. This is the place to visit if you want real, authentic, cantonese and szechwan flavors. The shop is owned by a family who brought their flavors to Chattanooga, and while the restaurant may seem a bit empty, don't let that fool you. Last week, when I had dinner there, I was one of 3 tables eating inside the restaurant. During my meal, I must have watched 20 or 30 customers come in for takeout orders. I've not tried their sushi, so I can't comment on that. But each and every single prepared entree I've eaten here was wonderful. My favorite is the garlic chicken with broccoli. I hate veggies, but in this dish, I enjoy them. :-)

This place didn't do it for me. I ordered the bulgogi beef, it didn't taste very authentic. And for $9!! Ordered the beef rib appetizer and it looked like a steak. I was hoping it would be small ribs. The taste is ordinary. Didn't really stand out. Typical asian food. Saw only about a handful of ppl. The place was close to empty. Only one waitress serving. She looked overwhelmed. Don't waste your time and money. My husband and I went here bc yelp rated it 4 stars and is near our hotel... and we are very disappointed.

Had and Asian food craving so I pulled out Yelp to find a spot. So it led me to Mikado. When entering, push button and pull door handle simultaneously. That's old school so I felt kinda dorky that I couldn't open the door and it took me a minute to adjust. But I overcame that with a giggle and chuckle at myself. What a dork! Upon entry, greeted nicely by sushi chef who told me I could sit anywhere. Food: Their menu consists of Japanese, Chinese and Korean items. There is a special lunch menu which is what I noticed everyone was having. Due to my Asian food craving, I stuck to the basics and ordered the following: Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup It was good but not enough spice (I like it Hot!). There were more vegetables than seafood; exactly 1 small clam, 1 scallop, 2-3 shrimp and 1 cuttlefish. Wth!! I got robbed. Catepillar Roll It was a bit on the dry side and it fell apart when eating. It was traditional including avocado, unagi, seawood, and rice. A bit lacking on flavor but still edible. Chattanooga Roll While in Chattanooga, I just had to try the roll that was named after it. It had deep fried fish, onions, mayo mix. Again, they can't wrap their rolls but the fish was cooked perfectly and the mix added the right amount of flavor. Service: After being seating, shortly, I was asked what I wanted to have to drink. I went for tea and water. You get a whole pot and it is apparent that getting hot tea is not the norm. But it's been about a week in Chattanooga and haven't had green tea, so I needed the Asian fix. LOL Placed order and received sushi about 10 minute later, followed by the soup. Functions like standard California Vietnamese (wait it's Japanese, right?) restaurant, go to counter to pay when done. Parking: Adequate parking, private parking lot available. OVERALL Some of the food was good and others not so much. They need to work on this because it seems like a popular place with a lot of take-out orders that came through. Maybe there menu need to be more specialized vs. doing it all. Or if they continue, they need to use the right rice and learn how to wrap sushi. Decent spot with decent food and service so it gets a mediocre review of 3 stars.

My family was a regular at this place the last 6 years ....recently I've noticed the quality of food is slightly different nothing that would stop us from going however the quantity is 1/3 of what they originally served the quantity has gone so small it's not enough for a single meal and this I'm referring to dinner course which was typically larger .....though I loved the food .....can not afford to go there as one dish is not enough and you end up ordering more if u have a big family and the costs add up

Not recommended! One of those.. You get what you pay for places... Refused to upgrade the fried rice to combo fried rice on lunch menu item. Food was definitely on low end of scale. Sushi rolls are small in size and nothing to rave about.

So I was driving around Lee highway Friday afternoon, tummy rumbling from a lack of breakfast and a payday check burning a hole in my pocket. Although I had passed by it numerous times without a second thought, I suddenly realized that little nondescript blue building on the corner of Lee and Shallowford was a Japanese noodle house. Curious, I decided to give it a try. I wasn't expecting much from a hollowed-out ex Pizza Hut turned Asian restaurant (can you really blame me?), but as soon as I stepped inside I realized this is a legit Japanese sushi bar with a nice variety of real Japanese dishes and ACTUAL JAPANESE SUSHI ARTISTS (??!)! I felt like I had just found $20 in my pocket. Twenty delicious, raw fishy dollars. The ambiance was okay, not trendy or overly fancy like some Americanized sushi places are. It was almost like just walking into what must be the average restaurant in Japan. Authentic, not pretentious. I decided to start out with a simple tuna roll on my first visit. It was good, but some of the portion sizes are SUPER small. If you're just here for the sushi, definitely get at least 2-3 rolls or a good appetizer along with it. I had to order a bowl of miso soup and some spring rolls in order to achieve a halfway full stomach. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, because sushi's not supposed to weigh you down. But definitely don't come here if you're STARVING and expecting a cheap buffet where you can eat your weight in deep fried, vaguely pan-asian food (like squid and french fries). I didn't get much of a variety on my first visit, but I'll definitely be back for more!

Five stars all the way. Delicious, fresh and very friendly on the wallet. Hubby and I had two orders of sushi, one small salad, one miso soup, then split the Korean bulgogi. The side if kimchee was not to my husbands liking, it was more sweet than hot, but he ate it just the same. All this plus a drink for less than $21! That makes it five stars in my book.

After three tries here, I have tempered my feelings about this restaurant. Some appetizers, like the marinated beef plate is excellent and authentic. The cha chiang noodles looked good but I didn't try. Sushi is up and down. Salmon nigiri can be great to average but always huge in size. Other rolls are always generous in portion but ok on taste. Some other things I've had include pork fried rice and twice cook pork were almost fast food quality. Kind of hit and miss. Will keep going since it is a good value and some things are better than almost any other chinese place. But make no mistake, this is 75% Chinese and 20% Japanese with 5% korean and misc. dishes added in.

Authentic Chinese food(the restaurant is ran by a Chinese girl). As a Chinese i was very impressed, for the Chinese dishes, they really make it the real Chinese way, mainly because the chef is from northern China. Sushi is great too. ordered 2 pieces of salmon nigiri, the salmon on the rice was so big and fresh. Great value for the money. This restaurant seriously needs more attention.

this is where i go for a noodle fix (this is my trap house!!) ok, so i'm asian and carb loading on a bowl of hot steaming noodles is heaven. The sushi is ok. had it once. good lunch deals. What I like about this place is that it is owned BY ASIANS. sorry, I don't wanna be racist, but sometimes when white folks run asian restaurants you can really tell. the spices, the wanna be fusion/ trendy/ whatever. not enough MSG. i'm not really sure what it is. This place is straightforward. The servers are nice. The spicy seafood noodles are yummy. (like jjam bbong) and you can request different levels of spiciness. also my friend is a gluten free so she asks for glass noodles which is well accommodated. I had Cha Chiang Myun (the black noodles). Portions are pretty big. and messy. Finals word: delish. I havent tried much else on their menu. their tofu is good, and I've heard their pho is pretty decent too. will try next time i'll update prices but i think they're average- like 7.99/ 8.99, so you'll spend around 10~ ish. also they carry kimchee upon request. you know who you are!
