My family and I say this is our favorite Mexican restaurant ever! Most of the time we always get the same thing because it's so tasty. The workers are always so nice. They have only had a few mistakes over the last 5 years! I love this place!

I've been a weekly diner at Mazatlan for over 10 years. Their service is fast and friendly, and their food is consistently delicious, fresh and hot. I'm typically there on Thursdays, when the daily special is the Speedy Gonzales, which comes with a drink for the extremely reasonable (and for Brentwood, ridiculous cheap) price of $4.99. Coming here is like visiting family every week. Since the parking lot fills up quickly at lunch, it's best to either get there right at 11:30 or wait until noon or later.

I am a Texan and I think a lot of things about this restaurant try to be Tex-Mex, but I personally didn't think it delivered at all. The food was just not great. I went with coworkers who had been there previously and loved it. I on the other hand was going for the first time and I highly doubt I would ever go. The service is lighting fast, you order and your food is on the table no more than 5 mins later. Personally, I found this slightly off putting. I think most people go out to eat to experience a new atmosphere, eat some great food, and socialize with family or friends. I'm not saying I want to wait 30 mins for food, but I also don't want the lunch or dinner over in 30 mins. Plus, when the food comes out that fast it makes me think of fast food or wonder if its all just sitting back there already assembled. I ordered the lunch chalupa and it came with rice and beans. It was awful! The chalupa was covered in beans, lettuce, guacamole, and a slice of tomato, and it was not crunchy at all. I would never had know it was a chalupa, if I didn't ordered it myself. Chalupa's must be crunchy, that is the whole point! Mine was soggy and just unappetizing. I also found it very weird that they topped it with a slice of tomato. I have never seen that. I'm personally surprised the reviews are as high as they are. Maybe my meal was a fluke or I just ordered poorly, but I would say pass on this place and try something else.

The people were nice. But, this is not only the worst "Mexican" food I've ever been served, it's the worst food I've ever been served in a restaurant. Chile relleno in a bizarre hard coating wit a horrendous white cheese sauce inside (where's the chile?), enchilada filled with ground beef, no beans with the combo and two tablespoons of rice (hidden under the relleno. Really awful food.

This is my fave TexMex place in Nashville. I've moved from Nashville and frequently miss it despite having moved to Houaton, which one would think would boast great TexMex. Still haven't found anything that hits the spot like Mazatlan's Jim's Nachos (over rice, always over rice!)!

The food is ok. The service is horrible. You have rude waiters that who argue with customers. They get your order wrong... A LOT! Then they argue with you that you ordered that. The manager does not help situations either. They never apologize. Food has gone downhill recently too. If you decide to eat, best of luck!

It's good, but indistinguishable from hundreds of identical Mexican restaurants. Want a Speedy with beans? You know what to expect here.

As typical TexMex goes in Nashville, this is about as good as it get and they are very nice friendly folks. After being a loyal customer of the largest local chain and having bad experience after bad experience with them at multiple locations, we abandoned them a little over a year ago and started a search to replace them. My husband has one particular dish that he loves that not everyone has on their menu, chilaquiles. Mazatlan had them on their lunch menu and when I asked if they could make them for dinner take out, they graciously obliged. When we got the first take out meal, the portions were huge compared to what we had been getting at the other place which was one of the reasons for the run in with them. We haven't had a single disappointment yet. Food is always good no matter what we order. Portions are always generous. Salsa and queso or good, in fact so good we order a large chips, salsa and cheese dip almost all the time and the other night that is all I ordered because I didn't feel good and it was the only thing that sounded good to me. As I said, they are always so friendly and not trying to do twenty things at once, laying the phone down leaving you hanging so long that you actually get there before you can place the order, or yelling out for the staff while ignore you at the cashier stand. Their friendliness and family atmosphere are evident in the kids that run to the cashier stand to talk to them and they know the customers that are coming and going.

Cheap. fast. Sysco standard "silver label" menu. Hell, it's Nashville and they sell the same menu as just about every other Mexi-joint in town. Nothing stands out here. Our nickname for Mazatlan is Mazat-nasti. You'll order what you order, but you'll get Montezuma's revenge. But then again, that'll happy at Las Palmas, Cinco de Mayo, and La Hacienda too. But alas, they aren't close to the office and Mazat-nasty is. I order a speedy gonzalas most of the time. It's just like the speedy gonzolas down the street at Mexican restaurant #3. I like my mediocrity to be predictable. And Mazatlan delivers on that. So I gave it two stars, and then changed my mind to 3. Because 1) I keep going back and 2) I figure they really are no worse than any other mexican place in town and 3), they are close to the office and fairly quick. Maybe even faster than Taco Bell on a busy day.

Service first off was very friendly, no hurry or push in ordering-- menu was bacic Mexican/American cuisine- ordered the lunch "big burrito" -- excellent choice!! Came with rice & beans, very large portion for lunch! (That's right!) Flavor not over the top but still really good, price was better than expected for portions-gotta go back and try other items on menu, let ya know- highly recommend! Seriously!!

Boo. We didn't even get a chance to eat one, single chip before we left. We decided to try this place out for lunch after living in Brentwood for several years. It was packed by 11:30 am and the food smelled delish! So, that can be seen as a testament to their menu. BUT here's my list of "Cons" and why these Brentwood residents wont be going back. (Note: Never tick off a hungry lady who is craving Mexican food before she pulls out her iPhone to write a review) --Parking lot is tight and there are few spaces available since the restaurant is in an office bldg. --They don't have great signage in place so you can find the entrance to the restaurant. We walked halfway around the building to find the entrance and realized we missed the door. --Although the server tried to seat us quickly (which is good), he wasn't friendly, that's for sure. It may have killed him to crack a smile or speak to us. But whatever. After he asked us how many in our party, he went to seat us at a table in the middle of the restaurant where it was very hectic and we'd constantly have waiters and customers whizzing behind our backs. We didn't even realize they had tables/chairs until we got to our table, so we told him we'd wait for a booth. He said nothing. Just rushed us back to the register area. No, "Ok.". No, "Please wait here until a booth opens up." Literally, no words escaped him mouth. He just snatched up the menus and rushed back to the servers station. We just followed along and found our own way back to the waiting area. Okayyy. He did come back soon and motioned for us to follow him. We were happy! Until, he took us to a back room where there were no other customers except a party of 15-20 elementary school kids who were SHRIEKING non-stop about something on TV. Look. We have our own kid. If we wanted to hear mind-numbing shrieking, we could have picked her up from pre-school and taken her to lunch, by gum! Seating us right next to the shrieking table was pretty much an "F U," and there's no more polite way to put it. Soooo, we shant be visiting here again. Good luck to those who do!

Mazatlan has ingrained itself into the Brentwood community, becoming an integral part of its culture and the dominant Mexican place in town. Don't pick up a menu unless you're looking at the draft list. Order the Jim Nachos over rice and prepare your tastebuds. Rich, creamy cheese blends with juicy chicken to create a fiesta in your mouth. Yeah, the nachos are that good. You'll thank me later!

Solid. It tastes great, easily accomodates large groups (if you're into that sort of thing), and the serving sizes are plenty. The servers won't hover unless they see you need a refill. I'm all about it. Jim's Nachos w/ rice: If you're white, you'll love it. I don't know what it is, but my friends and I get it almost exclusively.

I can say that they do have the best salsa in town.I tried the beef fajitas for the first time there, and is was amazing. I can say that I will return.

Know your waiter! First order of business, order a rita to take the edge off. I received a goblet of tepid water that had a margarita flavored tea bag dunked in it a few times. I had the impression that this would be a better window cleaner than a mood enhancer. But, ever the optimist (pause for laughter) I press on. I downed the lime water and asked the waiter for a rita with more "punch" in my best English to Spanish pantomime. Shortly received a concoction that at first sip brought to mind fist fights with close friends, pronouncements of love to strangers and public nudity...in other words.. Tequila. Gracias The food arrived, standard fair, nothing too exciting. So once again I went to my Hispanic saviour for help.I asked for some hot sauce, he smiled and brought me a bowl of green gruel that wasn't hot but added a much needed touch of flavor to an other wise bland chicken burrito. Once again.. gracias. To summarize, bland and banal can be redeemed with the help of a good waiter.

Solid. Fast. Cheap. Delicious. Spot-on Coca-cola mix (an essential compliment to any Mexican dish). They close at 10pm on weekdays and 10:30 on weekends. Not the latest for a place with a full bar but their happy hour is great. $3 Margaritas on weekdays from 4pm to 7pm. They have about 20 or 30 combination plates on their menu for $6.99 that with permutations of chalupas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and chile rellenos, but I recommend #12: 2 enchiladas with rice and beans.

Margarita's string. Chips from a bag. Fajitas decent. Not one of the best, but not bad. Guacamole from a bag, big no no.

What is it with Tennessee "Mexican" and that fake cheese dip with white american cheese? It's delicious, yes, but disturbing. Very disturbing.

This place is for those of you that think Taco Bell is 'too Mexican.' It is fast, cheap and absolutely the blandest Mexican food in the Nashville area. My beef taco was so plain I had to put some salsa on it to give it some flavor. I have to wonder if the beef was seasoned at all. The carnitas and chicken burrito were also lacking any noticeable seasoning. What is really funny about all this is that the salsa is actually spicier than the norm for Nashville. On the plus side this place has great service and they are lightning fast. My entire table had their food in under three minutes, and it was all hot (temperature-wise). It is also cheap. They have 27 combo entrees to choose from for $6.99. The rest of the menu is quite limited, it's the same 20 items that are found at every single Mexican restaurant in town. If you only have 15 minutes to eat before your movie starts, this is the place for you. I, on the other hand, will not be going back. There are just way too many better choices for Mexican food in Nashville.

The food is good. Everytime I come, the crowd is big but they do their best to get the food out in time. Usually takes a little longer than expected, but I am satisfied with the food.

It took me a while to stop and go in here to eat, because frankly I wasn't sure it was a restaurant. I know it says restaurant in the sign, but the place looks like an office building. So, one 4th of July when everything else was closed I ventured over here to have dinner. I guess I wasn't the only one looking to eat something besides hot dogs and hamburgers that evening, because the place was packed. I don't think it was just the holiday that got people in there, either, because I think the food was pretty good. And despite the crowd, the service was good, and the chips stayed full. The person I was with had a margarita, and said it was very good, too. I'd recommend Mazatlan.

Standard Mexi-hut. They use lard in their food, so beware. Decent place.

I live in Brentwood and have tried most of the Mexican places around me. We stopped in to Mazatlan because we hadn't been yet and I was pleased. It wasn't my favorite and I was a little disappointed they didn't have fish tacos, but the cheese dip was tasty and the margaritas even tastier. We went on a Friday night and were sat immediately and had fast service. I am unadventurous in what I will try, but I'm particular about my beef tacos and these were pretty darn good. I'd recommend if you want something fast and relatively cheap.

  • Jessy Y.

I have never had faster service. I had barely had one sip of my margarita before our food was out. And this was on a relatively busy Friday night. It was good -- not the best Mexican I've ever had, but pretty average for a vegetarian special (cheese enchilada, bean burrito, tostada). A little above average, in fact, since they use a lot of sauce. But I'd recommend it if you want to get in and get out. If you want to sit and chat, try somewhere else. Also, my margarita was really watered down, though my boyfriend says his wasn't. Maybe I'm just used to Rosepepper.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
