This is one of the best meat and 3 places I know. Much, much better than Bishop's in Cool Spings and on par with Cafe Monell's on Bransford. City Cafe has a better selection and better flavor than Bishop's. It's in a shopping center, and not easy to see/find, but it's worth finding. The food never disappoints and the staff is as friendly as if you were at home...or maybe at a friend's house if you have less than friendly family. I don't know why, it might be the paintings that are for sale on the wall, but the place has a cozy feeling for me. They aren't open every day and they aren't open late, so you can't just go when you feel like it, but when you do, and they are, you'll enjoy it.

The food is not bad, but it's not that good, either. This is a very basic meat-and-three. But it features "Brentwood pricing," which wrecks it. I won't spend $10 on basic meat and veg. And the vibe? Geriatric at best. Think Piccadilly Cafeteria and you've got it!

Cafeteria Style In terms of what a meat and three should be: Food: Decent Ambiance: Plain Jane similar to other Meat and Three's Speed: Get in line, grab a tray, pick and choose your food, and take a seat. The hostess will get your drink order and bring it shortly. She will also give you your check and you pay when you leave at the cashier station. Price: A little steep for a Meat and Three It works when I am in a pinch and don't want food from paper back and drive thru.

I like the buffet style, pick out your food, sit down and eat facet to this place. Most times I don't have the time in my business day to sit down, wait for a waitress to take my order, wait for the food to be prepared etc...that's why I dine here often. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is "proportion size". I eat at meat and three's all over Tennessee and City Cafe ranks the lowest in the amount of food you get for the money. But overall, I want decent southern food...fast...and no drive thru serves turkey and dressing with a side of turnip greens! Also, the staff is always top notch and extremely attentive to your needs.

I'm new to the meat 'n three phenomenon...do they exist outside of the south? Stop asking inane questions and choose your sides, fool. My husband is a meat and potatoes (and two more) kind of guy. I like some roughage with my gravy, but to each his own. We checked out the City Cafe for lunch on a Friday. The meat selections are different each day, and we both opted for the Roasted Pork Tenderloin on the day we went. I was hoping to salvage some nutritional value from this lunch, so I chose a side salad to complement my pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra. The setup is cafeteria style to choose your food, then a server will bring your drink and ticket. I thought the food was fine, and had a home-cooked flair. I should add that nothing on the other side of the sneeze guard would be my last meal on earth, so perhaps someone more inclined to the selection would like it better. I would return if the person I was eating with was dead set on it, but I probably won't be hanging out there on my own. Our total averaged to about $10/person, and while it certainly isn't highway robbery, it certainly wasn't the deal of the century.

It is what it is. I went with a friend who loves his meat and threes. The fried pork was actually very tasty albeit heavy. What else can you expect though from fried pork at a meat and three? Mashed potatoes were good. Gravy was tasty and homemade. Mac and Cheese was pretty gross. It was like a mac and cheese soup. The texture was way off. It was $10 a head, so not bad. I was probably the only person in there who was under 40. I will be back with my same friend, but that is about the only time I'd go back.

I love a good meat & three. The City Café meets all the criteria. It reminds me a little of the cafeterias we have in Texas. Jerry, the owner, is a very friendly fellow and we had a wonderful lunch at the City Café.

This isn't really a southern meat & three. It's more of an old people's cafeteria that serves some southern dishes too. It will do in a pinch but not "slap yo moma" southern cooking for sure. The prices reflect the location not the quality of food. A lot of the veggie dishes come from a can which I hate.

Came here during the ice/snowpocalypse as it was one of the only places open. I presume it was the owner who took care of us as he seemed pretty knowledgeable about the restaurant. He made us feel right at home and was super friendly. My boyfriend and I both got the chicken tenders which were amazing. Loved the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I wish they had gravy as an option but that's really my only complaint. Food could've been a little warmer as well but I found no trouble finishing my meal :)

I can't believe nobody has written a review for City Cafe yet. I think that this is the best meat and 3 in the Brentwood area. Nicely tucked away in the shopping center that houses Peter's Thai, City Cafe is great for lunch, and the after church crowd. In fact it is packed every Sunday. They serve the staple meat and three items, such as meat loaf, fried chicken and lasagna. Ice tea and lemonade round out the experience, and the waitstaff are friendly as can be. Go check it out.

City Cafe is a good easy lunch in Brentwood. I felt like a southerner eating there, up north we do not have home cooked style food restaurants like this. The whole Meat-n-three thing still makes me laugh but I love, and this is the best price for the portion option in the area. The first day I went they even had skinless Italian seasoned chicken. If you are visiting the South and want to see what a Meet-n-three is all about try the City Cafe, you will see all the locals saying hi. If you are alone grab a seat at the group table.

This is where you go in Brentwood for good ole southern cooking. Its a standard meat and 3 buffet with great home cooking. Get the banana pudding!!!!!!!

A great meat and three. The sweet tea is a southerner's dream. The choices are southern and healthy, so you can have fish or chicken or something fried. Excellent homemade desserts and the bread is fabulous!

Best meat-n-three in the area. Large portions at a decent price. I ate there many times when I worked in Brentwood.

When I arrived at 7:32pm, I was informed in a very dismissive way that the restaurant was closed. Apparently, they closed at 7:30pm, and even though there were still patrons seated that loomed as though they had just begun their meals, I was turned away. Having planned to get my meal "to go," - and it only being 2 minutes past "closing," with the doors still unlocked - I asked to speak to the manager to see if perhaps he would be willing to accommodate me. The man who had said they were closed informed me that he was in fact the manager and they would not be able to serve me. As I looked back through the window upon leaving, I observed he and several waitresses just sitting together at a table; which to me only served to add insult to injury since it would have only been a minor and very brief inconvenience to have allowed me to have gotten my carry-out order. They still had patrons and thus the register would have still been opened to take my money. This is representative of laziness and an unwillingness to take care of guests. All of this over a mere 2 minute discrepancy. I WILL NOT BE BACK THERE.

Brentwood Tennessee affordable simple southern eating is here. Just walk through the cafeteria line, tell the server which veggies and meats you want, and you get to eat. It's cheaper than nearby Front Porch Cafe, but not quite as good. It's an easy in easy out in which you get filled fast. Sometimes a local artist will display her work on the walls for you to buy or just enjoy viewing. Kids under 12 get a meat and two, or four veggies for just $4.
