Tuesday night and I was glad we arrived at 6:10 because the joint was full and noisy by 6:45. I like the "old" appearance; I wish that the wait staff was dressed in a way that complemented the ambience. Steaks were great, salad was so-so. Fresh ingredients from local farmers, and more tomato, could have enriched it greatly. Love the rolls. A fine experience overall.

Had an amazing dinner on a very special occasion! I ordered the salmon, which was cooked to perfection and seasoned with a spice that made it A+, with the steamed vegetable medley. My husband had steak cooked medium and was so moist and tender. My son had the pork chops that were tender enough to cut with a fork, and our "future daughter-in-law" had the filet that was the best she has ever had. As usual, the croutons were sooo delicious! I ate too many again! If you want the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, this is the place to go! Everyone there, from the bar tender to the wait staff were so kind and "Congratulations" was said by each of them.

This was my first time here. I've heard about it before but never tried it. Let's start withe food.... bread is pretty awesome. Drenched in butter with some parmesean. I dare you to eat on basket! The side salad that came with my meal was just a salad. Nothing special but a good salad. I ordered the 8 oz. Filet with shrimp. Came out like I wanted which was medium. Was a little surprised that the filet was wrapped in bacon. This reminded me of kroger not a restaurant. With that being said, the steak was actually really good. Very tender and juicy. Now on to the setting.... This is an old house that still looks like an old house. Decor is kind of creepy actually. Needs a complete remodel for sure. Could do amazing business if this was in a more restaurant setting. Regardless, the food and price is pretty exceptional and makes you question why you would ever go to a chain steakhouse ever again!

I have been to Side Porch many times other than what I've checked in on Yelp. My grandmother swore by this place and it's still her favorite place to go! When you're seated they present you with their "croutons" which are just chunks of bread drenched in a garlic butter. It's delicious! Their menu is plain but that's what keeps them good! They focus on what they're good at, great steaks. A 14oz ribeye with salad and a side will fetch you $19.99. One of my favorite touches is the mason jar your drink comes in. It's a nice change. They make a great steak at a fair price and if you've never been before, I encourage you to try them! They're only open for dinner Tuesday - Saturday. No lunch. Go with the filet and shrimp combo. It's great! Then review them and let me know what you though! :)

Well the place is old yet clean. It is nothing fancy, sort of like someone turned their house in to a restaurant. Saturday early evening and its a 20 minute wait for a table, more as I get seated.... Staff is friendly but busy, no time for chitchat. The place is has no real theme or direction. A good example is the drink glasses being quart jars period. I had a salad, ribeye steak with baked potato. The salad was head lettuce washed torn and crisp with a very good made on site blue cheese dressing, the steak was cooked to order and very lightly seasoned. My thought is while cooked and unseasoned steak is resting it is brushed with there wet season. If you want a top notch steak look elsewhere. If your looking for serious competition for the cheap steak chains this is it! And it is fairly inexpensive also. Oh yeah, those croutons...... Really are that good!

This is a really great, locally owned steakhouse. We enjoy coming here because the staff is always very warm and friendly. You instantly feel like family when you walk in. The owner always walks around and talks to people at some point during their meal. My favorite part about this place is the very beginning of the meal. The crouton basket you get. They take their homemade rolls, cut them up and then toast them. So they are crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I don't think I've ever actually eaten the rolls that come with dinner. The salads are good but there's nothing spectacular about them. It's simply a house salad. They're served in a bowl that you'd find at your grandmothers house. I am a chicken girl, so I usually get their grilled chicken and it is always delicious. I'm not sure what marinade they use for their meats but it is on point. When I do get a filet or something, I don't end up using steak sauce of any kind because it already has so much flavor. As far as sides, they've got fries, baked potato (plain or loaded), sweet potato, fried okra, etc. Each side we've always had has been good. I am always so full that I don't ever eat dessert. I have gotten their key lime pie before and taken it home for the next day though.

We love this place. The staff is so friendly and efficient. The croutons are amazing and addictive. You don't need an appetizer with these and a salad. Steaks are so good and cooked to perfection. Loaded potato is just the right size, not one of those huge boat size ones. Enjoy eating here very much, we drive from Hernando MS, we used to go to Como Steakhouse but this beats them.

How many times have I passed this place in my life? Many. Thought I had eaten here years ago, went there Friday night, nope, 1st time ever. On my way out, I was kicking my butt for not eating here a long time ago. 4 of us for dinner - pretty crowded at 5:45. Older crowd, heard they get a lot of repeat business. Appetizers: Fried mushrooms and sweet/hot shrimp. They were just OK. The 'croutons', these aren't croutons, rolls cut in 1/2,toasted with parmesan etc, really good, had to stop eating them to eat dinner. Salad, good, dressing, great. Homeade blue chees with blue cheese crumbles on top, nice. Steaks, 2 of us had 14oz ribeyes, 2 had filets. My ribeye was the best ribeye I've eaten out in many a day. Very very good flavor, cooked perfect. Others said their filets and ribeye were very good also. Great service despite being crowded. Lesson learned, should have gone here a long long time ago. I'll be back.

This little steak house is a place many have passed by on Stage Road and have had the infectious aroma of the grill fill their nose only to ask, "where is that coming from?" Well let me fill you in... The smell is some of the best steaks, chicken and huge pork chops you can get in Bartlett. The staff is amazing and friendly with a refill of your sweet tea and a smart recommendation from a simple and well put together menu. Stop in with an empty stomach and allow these wonderful people to feed you. Don't fill up on the croutons, even though it's so hard not too! After you enjoy your dinner walk to the front door, pay, and tell them what a great job they did. You'll love it.

I really wanted to love this place, but it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. First, the good. They served their drinks in the biggest Mason jars I've ever seen-I didn't even finish one. The "croutons" were really good, and is never had a starter like that before. (Why in the world they serve them with MORE butter was beyond me!) their salad dressings were fresh and homemade, although the salads themselves were nothing special. I can't imagine who would have needed it, but they brought fresh baked rolls with the meals. Now the not so good. The steaks didn't have a lot of flavor, even my filet, and (as several reviewers had said) they were WAY undercooked. We heard two other tables send their steaks back for the same reason-they have to know this is a problem. Our leftovers kept our dogs happy for a couple days, though! Our sides were completely unmemorable. Our server seemed to have somewhere she would have rather been. All in all, not a great experience, but we haven't ruled out giving it another shot in the future.

I have eaten there many times have never had a bad steak. The bake potatoes are near perfect and my steak is always a perfect medium. The servers are well mannered and friendly!

Croutons are delicious! Steaks always come out undercooked. Way overpriced! Food is average and okay.

We had a great dinner last night. Friendly efficient service . Crisp fresh salads. Properly cooked and tasty steak. Huge sweet potato! And the croutons were to die for!
(4)Joy S.
I won't be back. One other yelper mentioned that the steaks always come out undercooked and that is true for my first time. It was a big, thick, seasonless piece of meat! I ordered the NY strip. It was cooked to medium unlike the medium well I asked for. ... I sent it back of course (hate doing that). They need to learn how to cook a steak better than that to be called a steak house.

I have been going to this steakhouse since I was 5 years old. This is by far hands down one of the best places to eat in Memphis! The owner is very friendly. The food is exceptional. I have tried almost everything on the menu at least once. They serve your drinks in a mason jar so you wouldn't need a refill. The bread they bring prior to the meal is incredible! I highly recommend it to anyone! I would advise going early on a Saturday night because they are BUSY!

I've eaten here twice in the last 4 months and each time was great. The most recent time I ordered steak and spicy shrimp. The steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly and both had a great taste to them. The croutons were good as always, as was my salad with ranch dressing. I got the brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was HUGE. I need to start going to this place more often.

This is a great alternative to a chain because it is a locally owned place the best thing about it is the crouton bread they bring to the table it's absolutely amazing. Steaks are also very good price average But they have very few selections for sides

If you brand your restaurant as a steak house, I'm going to expect a good steak. Sadly, I don't feel that Side Porch delivers what they are advertising. It's a cute little place, very down-home Southern atmosphere. Drinks in Mason jars (always a favorite for me) and friendly staff. I ordered the 8 oz filet, medium rare. It came with a side item and a salad. Good deal. The salad was pretty good, I had their blue cheese dressing and it hit the spot. My filet was overcooked, I think. Either that, or they drowned it in marinade for way too long and it just absorbed that color. This is a pet peeve of mine. If you serve a quality steak, it should stand alone! No sauce, marinade, and very little seasoning. I am a purist. The fried okra I had as a side was okay, but it clearly came from a frozen container. My husband had the ribeye... that was not actually a ribeye. It had very little marbling and looked more like my filet than anything else. Also saturated in the marinade, and I agree with Greg W., it's mostly Worcestershire and A-1. Side Porch has potential, and they seem to do a good amount of business. If they just took the food a step up, I'd be more inclined to return.

We have enjoyed dining at the Side Porch and it is generally a stop for out of town family and friends. We have always had good service and very good food. The steaks are cooked to order and they always seem to get it right. Family owned and operated and very well run.

This place was great! I know it's a long-time staple in Bartlett, but this was the first time we ever visited. Many reviewers commented on the tight quarters, which I can see. There isn't a large waiting area either. But the place is casual, with very good steak. My kids loved it, too. It's a great family place. We'll definitely keep going back.

Serves crunchy garlic bread for starter. Nice side salad came as iceberg with some shredded cheese. The filet was Bacon wrapped and had a nice vinegary seasoning. Casual atmosphere, reasonable prices. Enjoyed.

Very quick to be seated, staff is very friendly. The place has a homey feel and the menu is small, but that's a good thing. Our appetizer was the mesquite chicken roll, it wasn't what we expected, but it was good. The homemade bleu cheese dressing was nice, but the salad surprised us by not being chilled. Be careful, an app and salad threatens to fill you up before the main course. And then.........well, thats where the place kinda lost its way. I had the 14oz ribeye, med rare, with loaded baked potato. The marinade was advertised as "secret home made", and they offered it on the side in case someone just couldnt get enough of the stuff. They will never have to worry about me not getting enough of that.....it was tangy with vinegar, worchestershire was extremely evident, and I believe it was celery salt........one more statement about the "secret"...........A1 steak sauce isnt really a secret, people have been eating that crap for years, way too strong fellas, WAY too strong, the sub-par tasting ribeye was lost in the A1. Maybe thats why the marinade was so evident. They loaded the loaded baked potato with everything except those ingredients that would provide some moisture.............AND we didnt get asked if we wanted more beverage until we were brought the check. Heres where it gets bad: My wife had the filet with grilled, spicy shrimp..........not so much. Her steak should have been sent back the second time cause a steak that is purple isnt med rare...........the grilled shrimp? In a pigs eye, At least 2 of them werent even cooked through, and none of them had been grilled. They were white, with NO grill marks at all, no sear, no nothin. Her baked potato was just like mine..........dry. Overall, we were disappointed because the place has huge potential. Maybe the new ownership hasnt gotten a full handle on the process, maybe the food used to be great, but I dont understand most of these other reviews. Unless you: 1. Have a craving for worchestershire and A1. 2. Just adore dry baked potatoes. 3. Have no palate. or 4. Just love really big, yummy croutons. You can probably do better for the same money. Would we try it again? Yeah, but with reservations. I truly hope they just had a bad day today............but if/when they get another chance, Im walkin in expecting it to be their last.

The Side Porch has been around for a really long time - since the 70's I believe. And it's pretty much a Bartlett landmark. The food here is excellent, and also fairly inexpensive for what you get. The filets are very high quality and an 8 oz is priced at only $15. And all entrees come with a salad, and your choice of baked potato, veggie medley or steak fries. On the weekends, they have sweet potatoes too. The atmosphere is laid back and casual, and that, combined with good food and good prices, makes for a really nice dinner out.

As a single business traveler it is always hard to decide where to go eat in a new town. I found a GEM here! Treated well and GREAT food! Fairly cheap too! Highly recommend!

My wife and I were looking for a local steak house to try and ended up at Side Porch. The night we went, they seemed to have several unexpected large groups. Even with this, the staff was nice and curtious, and kept a smile on thier face. The staff handled it well, and were able to have us seated within about 10 min after we came in, even with the unexpected large groups on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere is down home style, one in which you would see more of a fried home cooking menu. It made you feel sort of like sitting at your grandmothers house for a meal. Relaxed and very casual, this seems the type of steak house you would be out of place in with a coat and tie. The owner, or whom I assumed to be the owner, or at least the manager, was very active, helping clean tables, and going out of his way to make sure people were seated as quickly as possible. He even took the time during all this on a busy Saturday Evening to personally sing Happy Birthday to one of the lady's there having a birthday dinner, and did a fine job at that. They get things started by bringing out homemade large croutons which were very good, and went great with the salad. Looking over the menu, prices were very reasonable for a steak house at $18 for the 14 oz ribeye, including side, bread and salad. The steak was very good, and come with a house marinade on it. Usually I am not a big "stuff on my steak" person and like to taste the meet, but this was really good and not to overpowering. It was noted on the menu that you could request it to be on the side, but I'll probably have mine as it comes next time. That sentence sums it up, I'll be back a next time.

I was actually excited to try this place after reading some of the reviews. What a disappointment. We were seated by a friendly silver-haired man. The chipper waitress was almost over-friendly and did accomplish her job of bringing out our food, and two large drinks(mason jars) of Coke~. Bread arrived at the table first, quite yummy, buttery garlic bread ends.. The side salad arrived, just average, but luckily I found no brown lettuce, (one of my pet peeves). I ordered filet mignon (medium rare) and grilled shrimp. The filet arrived and was raw, very much under cooked and flavor a bit odd. I sent it back. The shrimp, one of those was almost translucent, not done and not a grill mark in sight on those "grilled shrimp". I tend to judge an establishment by how much true care you can see in the surroundings, the cleanliness, and of course the food. You either taste the love or you don't... I didn't
