Friendly service, great food, and excellent draft beer selection. You can order a $10 burger or $30 steak. The environment is upscale, but I usually sit at the bar and it's very casual. Favorite dinner place in Vermillion.

Try it you will not be disappointed. My wife had the sirloin....no steak knife needed. I had the pork tenderloin ... Fantastic....it came with the crusted Mac & Cheese that is to die for. This place is 5 star meals with 5 star service.

Reds is an "up-scale" steak house that offers a wide variety of entrees. The one thing I don't appreciate about reds is the amount of salt they use in nearly all of the dishes. It's exorbitant. It's definitely a place that you would feel out-of-place if you didn't dress slightly nicer. The staff seems well educated in most parts of the menu which I appreciate. All in all it's definitely a place I would recommend trying

Great service Food was good, and not over priced. Where else are you going to have this type of service and quality in Vermillion SD?

My wife and I visited Red in early October (during Dakota Days.) I had never been to Red before and was suitably impressed. The atmosphere is sophisticated, staff was courteous, and the food was exceptional. To be honest, coming from the Twin Cities, I was not holding high expectations for a restaurant in Vermillion - a town with a bad track record for mediocre eatery's. Red bucks this trend.

Went here when visiting my Aunts and Grandma last fall at their suggestion since it's one of their favorite places to go. The atmosphere of this place is amazing and would be considered fancy even in a much larger city. The service is what you'd expect at any high end restaurant. The food was excellent with very large portions at a good price. The bar fit in nicely with the rest of it and would be a great place to come for drinks.

Both of us had steaks. Ribeyes had great flavor and crust - a bit too much salt. Sweet potato fries were also very good - again, too much salt. Onion rings very good with a bit too much salt. Service very good. Reasonable prices for the food. Wish baked potatoes were available for lunch. Would definitely return.

Fantastic food, excellent attentive service, small town charm. We are visiting with our prospective Coyote, and wanted to sample the highly recommended SD steaks. The server was a cheerful sweet student, who masterfully steered us toward the best menu items. Our petite filet mignon were both prepared perfectfly-- medium-rare, lovely crust on the outside. Mashed sweet potatoes were great. Even the house salad was fresh and perfectly prepared. Topped it off with chocolate creme brulee. Highly recommended!

Upon my family's arrival in Vermillion, we were told by several people that we *MUST* try the new steakhouse in town. One person even stated, "You'd expect something like this in Denver, but we never see a restaurant like this here." And he was right! The service was a bit slow, but I won't deduct that much from RED because it's a new restaurant and they are just starting out in the restaurant business. The waiter apologized to us and tried to be attentive as possible. We had others stop by the table an refill water/bread and take away plates continuously, so even when our waiter wasn't immediately available, others were. The staff, in general, was personable and friendly. And the steak? EXCELLENT. Juicy and melt-in-your mouth steakiness. Mmm! The loaded-with sour cream, cheese, and bacon baked potato was also cooked to perfection. For an appetizer, my family split the Zeus flatbread. DELICIOUS! It was something different and tasty. In addition I had a spinach salad which was a great mix of spinach, dressing, and other toppings. The general bread they served the table was so tasty that I think I had 5 slices with the very soft butter that was supplied. At the end of the meal I was *VERY* full and satisfied. So the 4 stars vs. 5 is just for the slow service (I'd give them 4.5 if I could). I think once they get rolling, things will pick up and a 5th star will be rewarded when I return in the future. :)

Best restaurant in town, easily. Even from the menu, it is apparent that the cook(s) pay special detail to interesting ingredient combinations. Although you may feel obligated to get a steak when at a steakhouse, don't feel. The other menu items are just as good (and actually better) than the steak.

Food is good, some dishes are quite good. Steaks are tasty. Service is slow. Lunch and dinner are both good. Certainly the nicest restaurant in Vermillion.

Environment was solid, as was the staff. However, food was over priced for the quality. Growing up in the Midwest, I know what a good steak is....this was not. Don't get me wrong... not a bad steak, but not worthy of the high price.

Good for the price but the service is sometimes lacking.

I come from a family of foodies and have eaten delicious foods from all over the world. Raised in Omaha, I can say RED competes on a culinary level with top restaurants in Omaha. They could have a bit more of a seasonal focus but they are creative with the menu--a far cry from the fried staples of other Vermillion eateries. You can find great healthy options and their seafood is good, but you cannot go wrong with any of their burgers. They are excellent. Also, their leek salad dressing, salads, baked brie en croute and korean beef wraps are quite good. Their onion rings are a bit too greasy for me. The service is quite good, and the experience is more time-consuming, food-focused than other Vermillion dining options. The atmosphere is mostly older than college kids but they make you feel comfortable whether you're a young person on a date or there for a special occasion. RED is by far the best food and experience in Vermillion, I highly recommend this establishment.

I've been living in Vermillion for over a year now and have tried REDs 4 times. The atmosphere is unbeatable in Vermillion, yet every time I've gone in, I've had so-so food at a high price. The two times I've gone in for dinner, the service was excellent and the staff friendly, but the meat was cooked sub-par and I felt I could do better at home on the grill with a few steaks from Jones or Hy-Vee. On another visit, the brunch I had was similar, with basic dishes being cooked incorrectly. The frittata I had was flat, like an omelette, lacking any of the fluff or characteristics of a well-cooked frittata. Everyone at the table agreed that their own dishes were standard, but nothing really to write home about. On my last visit, I avoided meat all together and the salad I had was fine. I'd only suggest REDs if you are willing to pay for the environment of a nice meal. Just don't expect anything spectacular from the menu.
