Found this restaurant on Yelp while on vacation and was a little disappointed. I would have given this a better rating if not for two issues. First when we were ready to pay the bill they informed us that the credit card machine was not working we could pay cash or we could give them the credit card information and they would write it down and charge us when it started working. I was not comfortable leaving anyone with my credit card information, thankfully I had enough cash. This should have been shared with all customers when they sat down, credit card machine is down. Second issue there were only three tables with people and the server was more interested in talking with the staff than checking on the tables so we had to wait frequently or get up and find the waitress when something was needed. I ordered a burger and it was excellent. Great bun, juicy burger, and excellent toppings. Excellent burger. I would recommend the burger if you are in the area. I also got the sweet potato chips which are like potato chips, they were chewy and not good at all. I would not recommend them.

I've never been to Spearfish SD. before so I was looking for a good local place. So I went down the list of recommended places, and decided to try this place. It was Excellent... I had the Beef Tips (medium) with Brandy Yams. Totally awesome, it was cooked to perfection, and completely full of flavor. I would love to go back and have the same thing again, but unfortunately only staying for the night. If your hungry, and love tasty bit size melt in your mouth steak. GO HERE! you won't be sorry.

Read the menu. Undoubtedly it is all superb. A great dining experience. Stuffed mushrooms were wonderful and a generous portion. We only had gourmet hamburgers but they are not just burgers. Fantastic!

The place to eat in Spearfish! Our waitress Katie was delightful, good service makes such a big difference. Great craft beer selection and a terrific burger made with beef sourced from Montana. The dessert list looked amazing, but we were too full to try any of them. I will definitely go back, if I'm ever in Spearfish again.

I read some reviews on steak houses close to BHSU. Killian's came up. My wife and I are in Town from SoCal visiting our son who is attending school. Anyway, we love a good steak and Killian's hit the spot. My son and I both ordered the filet mignon and it was awesome!! Service was great too!! Best meal we had while we were in town.

I had steak with sweet potato chips and a side salad. The server brought me my own bottle of homemade ranch dressing to go with my homemade chips. The steak was super tender even though I ordered it medium well. I will definitely be back!

Very clean place, you can see that just walking thought the doors. Seated quickly and our waitress was sweet. Now to the best part, the food!! I was blown away by the menu and how amazing each meal sounded, then I ordered. Top-notch presentation! And perfect execution on the food. I got the fish and steak with asparagus on the side, everything was cooked just right. Who I was with, got the steak tips and yams. The steak tips were spicy!! Maybe a curry taste..? Still came out so juicy, soft/tender!

The people are great, and a good beer list. I was not completely disappointed with the steak, but a $30 a la carte ribeye should be cooked well and have some flavor. The potatoes were good, but my order of asparagus looked like the kitchen cleaned out the bottom of a box of undersized veggies and gave me what was left. The salad was almost offensive in the sense that the cook had almost no clue and did not care about portion, even if it was fresh. So my take away was that the crew has no formal training in culinary arts whatsoever, but they charge prices that imply that they do. Wine was not at all impressive for the price, but this is a tavern in the country so I should have expected that.

We are from Las Vegas where there are plenty of places with excellent food. So while traveling we like to Look for places to experience the local flavor of the towns where we stop. We decided to try Killiqn's tavern in Spearfish, SD. It was an excellent choice. We had the petit steak, excellent. The decor was great, a laid back atmosphere where you can converse and actually hear each other. We highly recommend this place. Also our waitress Kylie was fantastic. Good fortunes to the restaurant and to Kylie.

I took some clients to this spot last week for a large group dinner. Killians did not disappoint. I had the pork that was simply amazing! The balsamic salad dressing surprisingly was a show stopper. It is made in house and was so good. I could not recommend this place enough. Good people, great food, and a nice South Dakota atmosphere.

Absolutely love this place. Seriously. It's delicious. We were in Spearfish passing through, and we were looking for a good, local place to get a bite to eat. In small-town-America, you can sometimes find hidden gems that have great food, service, and drinks. And sometimes you find absolute crap. This place is definitely part of the former. I would definitely frequent Killian's if I lived in Spearfish. We ordered a great local beer, a calamari appetizer, a hamburger, and the bangers and mash. All of it was delicious. Those are three very different dishes, yet all of them were fresh, had great flavor, and had great portions. The burger was actually well-done. It wasn't charred and it was well cooked with a slight amount of pink. The meat was delicious and incredibly flavorful. The breading on the calamari was delicious and light. They were fried perfectly and weren't too chewy or too hard. The bangers and mash had a lovely gravy and the cabbage was perfectly cooked (without being soggy.) It also has a great atmosphere and the sort of place where I could sit and have a beer all afternoon. This is definitely the sort of place where it would be great to be a regular.

All of our food was delicious!! We ordered a variety and shared. The portions were huge and the sweet potato chips were the best I have ever had. Shannon provided excellent service for our table and we were just passing through but will definitely recommend it to others.

My husband had an amazing burger, and I had fabulous shrimp scampi linguini. But the service was amazing. Not just our waitress but all of them around us. All the girls were so friendly and smiling.

Very good steak. In fact, the rib eye was excellent. Sides were very flavorful. Salads were sparse but good. Everyone in my party of 5 enjoyed their meal, and everyone ordered a different steak. Only bummer was that they only serve wine and beer despite the "full bar" on yelp. More casual than fancy for sure, but very friendly staff and overall a good place for a quality meal.

Fantastic. Best word to describe it all. Promptly seated when we arrived. Excellent drink menu and a wide variety of craft beers on tap. Our waitress (Michelle) knew the beers and helped us with beer and dinner selections. They were willing to make substutions for ingredients my wife did not like. Restaurant was steady busy and the plates coming out were loaded up with very interesting dishes. I had a spicy burger and my better half had the Greek pasta with chicken instead of Ahi Tuna. Burger was hand packed and just a touch of pink. Perfect! The home made pickled jalapeños were slammin. The fries stole the show. Double cooked big chunks of sea salt. The sign out front was right, best burgers in town. The pasta was creamy with lots of olives, spinach, feta and big strips of grilled chicken. I had to try and it was top notch as well. Too bad we are passing through we would go back again. Great job!

THIS is the place to go after a day of climbing in Spearfish Canyon. The burgers were huge, but the healthy options (vegetable sides) were also really good. I only wish we discovered this place toward the beginning of our visit to Spearfish.

5 star review on Yelp proves to be a great find. We visited 2 nights from Texas and ate at Killians both nights. Every local we talked to, agreed this was the best food in town. We split 2 meals between 3 people and had plenty to eat. The Alley Cat Surf and Turf was a great piece of meat (you would not have guessed it was sirloin) and the cod was very flavorful. The Steak Tips were even more flavorful with a sauce that would make one double dip. Finish up with the Bananas Foster and don't forget to try Spearfish's local brew, "Crow Creek". It is delicious even out of the can.

After driving around all day in Black Hills, we were starving and Yelp led us to this place. The service was fast and friendly and the food was tasty. I had the Caesar salad and my companion had the salmon. Both dishes were great. We also ordered the cheesecake, which was a bit dry and that's why I'm taking one star off.

Great beer selection on tap - including Stella Cider as an alternative. Items are clearly labeled as Gluten-Free (GF) if needed. I had the Smothered Chicken and my boyfriend had the Smothered steak tips. He couldn't stop raving about the sauce. Service was very friendly and prompt. Our server "Amy" made sure my boyfriend was well - satisfied with his Draft beer selection - offering a taste if he wasn't sure.

GREAT!! My wife, mother, father & myself all had something different. Dads steak was perfectly cooked, moms fish wasn't mushy, wife's pork chop was tender, and as always the beef tips were spot on. Service was great.!!

We stopped in here for a beer. They have a great selection (draft and bottle), and they just put in a whole new set of taps for an even bigger draft selection. The owner is VERY knowledgeable about all kinds of beer, and seems committed to keeping great new beers on tap. The only things that bothered us were the high price of beer ($11 for 2 pints) and the small parking lot (not sure where everybody parks when it gets busy).

Food was great and extremely fresh, the steak tips done medium rare were perfect with the garlic asparagus and the Sherry Berry Salad ended up being enough for two people. This is a rare gem of a restaurant in this part of the country.
