We were FAMISHED! Didn't want any fast food but were in a hurry to get up the canyon and hike are fat butts off. Saw this place while scoping the doughnut shop across the street (which turned out to be closed for good) out and said "oh ya!" Went in and felt right at home. We were pretty hung over and our main man Zach helped guide us through the ordering process! My girl ordered a pretty rad shrimp burrito concoction with curry sauce and I got a buffalo chicken one. As our mouths watered and stomachs growled Zach says "I can make it bigger man". We said HOOK IT UP and he gave me double blue cheese crumbles and extra shrimp for my lady! We added a honey habanero brownie to the order and a couple of sodas (wish we could have done beer, as they had it on tap but we were to hung over)! Bounced out and chowed down as we drive up the canyon.... Been talking bout our food and service ever since! Thanks so much Zach, we will be back for your specialty rice bowl!

Good food and friendly people. It is a lot like Qdoba but spicier. The people there helped us figure out what we wanted and made great suggestions. The decor is simple but nice. We will definitely be going there when we travel through Spearfish. I would recommend the steak fajita borrito.

The freshly made food is fantastic. Having worked there, I may be a little biased, but I still eat there often and it's great. Nick and Erin have done a great job bringing an artistic and creative food choice to a sleepy midwestern town.

a little local place, that my buddy said "they are trying to be like boulder"..which I thought was a good thing and it proved to be a very good little burrito spot. It's a lot like Moes or Qdoba, but local. you pick a variety of meats, beans and fillers for your burrito and they roll it in front of you. their extremely hot sauce "the chuck norris" was more sweet than hot, but pretty good for a little local place..we will definitely be back

There are a lot of giant burrito joints out there, but Barbacoa's in Spearfish, SD, is one of the better offerings. Featuring a great selection of fresh ingredients, bottled beer and an assortment of burrito/wrap/rice bowl selections, this is one of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Each menu item has a variety of options, including shrimp, steak, chicken, salmon and halibut. Various sauces, such Monterey cheese sauce, a pad thai like peanut sauce and a curry sauce give additional flavor options (I recommend the Monterey or the pad thai). Salsa's include various mild and medium selections, as well as some hotter choices. Try a single line of the "Chuck [Norris]" sauce, but be sure to get a bottle of beer to chase it down. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean and spacious. Highly recommended.

This place is like a Mexican subway only ten times better! The food is scrumptious! Healthy and good for you too! Different choices of meats, beans and veggies to pick from. And custom create your own burrito or rice bowl. You have to try the barbacoa burrito. You will not go away hungry. All the food is huge. Depending on your appetite you can probably share with someone and still be satisfied.

While there are plenty of different selections at Barbacoa - fish, chicken, pork and beef - the Barbacoa burrito is my favorite. Giant sized and spicy, it's one of the best bets for a quick meal when you are in the Black Hills. If you want something with fewer carbs, they will put all the ingredients on a fresh bed of lettuce.

We stumbled across Barbacoa's while driving to a different restaurant we had looked up on Yelp. Obviously this was some kind of cosmic intervention, because we ended up having a really good meal. For starters, when we arrived the employees informed us that it was $5 burrito night (chicken and a couple other options were available for that deal). Any time my family of 5 can eat out for under $30 I am trilled. I'm not going to lie, the ordering set-up is very similar to Chipotle. They did seem to offer a bit more variety and everything was very fresh and flavorful. I would say it is a bit better than Chipotle just because it doesn't have that mass-produced feel. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I really liked this place and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Well, we were on our way from NoDak (Teddy Roosevelt National Park) on our way to Wyoming (Devils Tower - hopefully soon to be renamed to Bear Lodge) when we somehow found ourselves in the middle of the Sturgis 75th. We looked around in Spearfish and found some of the best burritos ever. A very welcoming crew, great food, beer, wine, etc. The food is made with fresh ingredients.

This place has real homemade ingredients - none of the meats, veggies, or toppings come from a box - which means that everything is fresh and delicious. The steak is super tender, the salsas are spicy, and the queso is amazing. They also serve $2 PBRs if you're into that. I've been in town for 10 days and I've eaten at Barbacoa's 6 times. The food has been great every time!

Very pricey and not very good. Would not recommend. We got two chicken bowls and one drink for 24 bucks.. Seems like the prices on the board and what gets charged is not the same.

A lot like qdoba, but better. You could tell the food was freshly prepared (and I came half an hour before closing). Staff was friendly and concerned about the cleanliness. They helped me pick something out since I had never been there before. Made the choices simple and let me know when he was offering something that cost more. The burrito I got was wrapped well and was easy to eat. Overall good experience. I decided to come here based on the review about this being locally owned. I hope that's true.

We come here every time we are in Spearfish and it's consistently outstanding. Great food, friendly service. The menu has a lot of variety--you can get a rice bowl with pad thai flavors, or a burrito with blue cheese, for example. The chicken fajita bowl is my favorite.

Nothing but good things to say about this place. In the middle of a long road trip, it was great to find a place that was not only quick but healthy, AND not boring food. I got a pad thai burrito, and loved every bit of it. P.S. Get a brownie. Really, get a brownie.

Great food, pleasant employees, not loud at all and most tables were in use at the time. Nacho chips are very good. All the salsas that I tried were very flavorful and went well together. The kids also enjoyed their kids meals which is saying a lot considering they don't eat all their good anywhere but they did here. My wife said the bacon ranch burrito was "pretty good".

This is like a Qdoba or a Chipotle only they dont seem like a chain (I dont think they are) and they offer ingredients into the burritos like blackened salmon, shrimp, etc. The sauces are also a good spice kick, like pad thai sauce and fresh and creamy queso. Cool enough, they also offer Odell Brewery beers. You wait in line to make your burrito/fajita/salad bowl and then it's self seating. Prices range $4-8, vegetarian friendly.

It seems to me that Spearfish is trapped in this culinary netherworld. It's not quite remote enough to have the tiny, home cooked, fresh from scratch, down home restaurants of yesteryear. Nor does it have the newer, chef driven foodie places that you'll find in larger cities. Instead, they have spots like... Chili's or Applebees. Ummmm no... But it's not all bleak! Progress has arrived in the form of a burrito joint. Imagine a gourmet version of Chipotle with an Indian twist. Basically it's the same exact formula that has made Chipotle famous. You probably know the drill. Enormous burrito or opt for the burrito bowl. Rice. Meat. Toppings. Only they have a much wider variety of options for each part of the process, including items like curry sauce. A sign on the wall says it's all sourced locally which is very cool too. Like this place a lot. Like the vibe a lot. If you are driving along I-90, I highly recommend you swing through town and check this place out.

This is my new default for lunch. Let's be honest, Spearfish is not crammed full of culinary options. Still, Barbacoa's is not just a slightly larger fish in a small pond. Their burritos feature decent tortillas, well seasoned ingredients, and flavorful salsas with decidedly non-midwestern heat levels (you might live in South Dakota if you've ever been served a burrito con mayonnaise with a side of cole slaw). They also offer an excellent handmade Monterey Jack cheese sauce and some interesting variations on a theme (i.e. try the Pad Thai burrito, and get the bamboo shoots). They'd get five stars on flavor alone, but their prices are bit high unless you stick to veggies. Also, server friendliness is hit or miss.

Not bad...not a great value. We had the chicken nachos and a chicken and ranch burrito with one soda and it was almost $20. The nachos were kind of small, and the salsa was runny, so the chips were soggy by the time they were half gone. The burrito was pretty good, but the rice was not fully cooked. The staff was friendly. Filled our stomach, but not overly satisfying...at least not enough to come back.

I'm a long-time Chipotle customer from the Northeast (not a lot of other burrito places where I was), so I looked forward to trying this place. The wrap was steamed too much, so it was a bit soggy, and the barbacoa dripped a little too much fat, but overall it tasted great. I didn't see brown rice - I would have liked to have it instead of the white rice. I liked the selection of toppings, especially the salsas and the veggies. About $9 for the burrito I liked, but it was large and filling, definitely 2 meals for me. I liked the music and vibe of the place, and I'll be back.
