Not just a "landlocked Chinese restaurant" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- People cringe at the thought of Asian food in the Dakotas. This is often legitimate, as I've learned on at least three occasions -- but not at Hong Kong Buffet. I honestly wonder what brought the owners and employees here to Rapid City, but whatever it was, I'm glad. The buffet is AMAZING. Come desperately hungry and be prepared leave super-stuffed. For $10.50, you get your fill of numerous shrimp, pork, beef, and chicken dishes, sushi, dumplings, fried food, veggies, and some interesting additions, like the "peach bun." They have hibachi, which looks great, but somehow I have never gotten around to trying it -- that tells you how enraptured I get at the other heaping tables of food, haha. There is even ice cream for dessert. For drinks, choose from hot tea and cold beer (they've got huge cans of Sapporo). The staff is always friendly, and I've never seen it crowded. We first tried Hong Kong buffet less than two months ago, and I think I have been there five times now. Easily my favorite restaurant in Rapid.

My husband and I went here to eat yesterday around noon. Upon walking in it looked nice and smelled good. Service was great. Went and grabbed our first plate. The green beans were the only thing that was decent. Chicken and beef were so tough you couldn't eat it, while sitting in a pool of oil. Tried there lobster cheese thing, and almost threw up. The only thing that was edible was their soup. None of the items that were in the warmer pans were hot. Except the soups. So still being hungry I decided to eat the fruit and jello. Even that was a disappointment. So next day after eating there, I have never felt so sick. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I've worked in food service before and I'm sure this place wouldn't even pass a health inspection

I'm a Hong Kong native. This restaurant totally ruins Hong Kong which is named 'Heaven of food'. It should not be called Hong Kong Buffet. It is totally misleading and makes people misunderstand Hong Kong food are bad. I don't think the restaurant is run by Hong Kong people. I thought I could have Hong Kong food in the restaurant but there are only three dishes with Hong Kong style and none of them taste good. Even other dishes don't taste good. They are old and dry. Some even taste weird, like the food is bad. I have had many buffets and this one is the worst I have tried in my life. I could not believe a restaurant can serve such bad quality of food with this price.

The only good thing was the ice cream, soups, and coconut shrimp. "Crab legs" were in standing water, cold, and tasted like rubber. Craw fish was the same. Beef and chicken dishes were very greasy and left a pool of oil behind on the plate. Won't go again.

Ate here for Father's Day dinner on 17 Jun 12. Usually this place rocks---today was the exception as the food was old, not fresh, and in some cases, very cold (under cooked rice too). I was heavily disappointed and it will be some time before I go back... Normally it is the best Chinese in town, unfortunately not today (come on folks----you can do better than this (referring to the owner/operators)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly.
