We were passing through town and decided to stop by. I'm glad we did. The food was good. The service was good. My only complaint was the margaritas were a mix and not hand poured. Definitely a place to stop by when passing through.

A pretty disappointing experience all around. The complimentary salsa had very little flavor. We added salt and hot sauce. The margaritas came quickly and were from a mix; they were just ok. I had the seafood chimichanga. It was pretty bland and soggy. The only flavor came from the shrimp. My traveling companion had a chicken tamale and was equally underwhelmed.

Food was good one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. When we arrived not extremely busy, so we were seated right way. Then the slow service started, waited ten minutes to order. Food arrived in 11 minutes, never seen the waitress again, until I asked for the check. Watched other customers leave before sitting, others were also waiting impatiently. No hostesses were sitting customers, waitresses were sitting when passing by, no manager was present or was hiding in the back. Even though the food was excellent, service was horrible, would not recommend this place.

I had lunch here once and take out a few times here on my stay in Peirre SD. It was right next to my motel. Take out you don't get free chips and salsa. :( There queso is really good. The salsa is not hot @ all it taste like pasta sauce. lol... I asked for the mild and hot mixed together so it would be real mild in my opinion mild is a little hot. They call the pasta sauce tasting salsa mild. Guess this is good mexican food for peirre but there aren't many options there I noticed. It was fine for convenience being right next to my motel. Wish they gave free chips and salsa on the take out they made me pay for it, 3$ for the chips and like 3$ for salsa but they where a large size @ least which was more then what I wanted-needed. o-well.

The people who have given this restaurant positive reviews, have apparently never had Mexican food before. Bland, boring, flavorless food... With melted cheese that looked like it came out of a bag from the grocery store. Cheap tasting ingredients, and sub par salsa. While the food was not "gross" per se... In no way is this an acceptable example of Mexican food. Additionally, food arriving at your table 4 minutes after you ordered it (when the restaurant is VERY busy) is never a good sign for high quality food. Pros, friendly service and good a atmosphere.

I travel quite a bit and many times in to smaller midwest towns like Pierre. In general with co-workers, we feel when in doubt go to the local Mexican restaurant. In fact, as we got in car I said, "You generally can't go wrong with Mexican food so let's go to Guadalajara's. The Chips were good. The salsa is below average and watery. Staff is friendly and once we ordered the food came about 5 minutes later. Food was bland. I had 2 tacos and chicken enchilada. The best flavor in the plate was from the refried beans. Food was bland. It was really busy place, but don't let that fool you into thinking this authentic or good mexican food. The food wasn't gross or nasty, it just was edible. Try somewhere else or save money and go to Taco Bell or Taco Johns.

Had a nice dinner with an attentive staff. The food wasn't top notch buy what they lacked in quality they made up for in quantity. The margarita was good but a little watered down. All in all I'll go back again.

Good service, quaint interior, clean and pleasant, OK but uninspired menu (no green chili??), poor margarita (neon green 'rita mix) and flavors are pretty bland, but that is to be expected this deep into the Midwest. If you are from the west or southwest, you won't be impressed. Only Mexican restaurant in town that I know of... I would not recommend it, but would eat there again if I was in town and needed a fix.

Don't expect fast service, but the food is great! Try the Guadalajara burrito, though I recommend ordering it without the jalapeños. Also the Guadalajara platter was good too. Plenty to eat for sure!

In terms of Mexican compared to everywhere else it's not very amazing, but considering it is Pierre and with the options available it's not too bad. You can tell it has quality problems because of it's heavy reliance on cheese, sour cream and guacamole, but that doesn't necessarily make things terrible just less about the Mexican and more about the American. The chips and salsa are great however and can be eaten by themselves quite well. I'm also fond of their rice, but it's tough to mess it up and their beans are fairly good as well. In short it's friendly and good for a family, but in terms of Mexican as a whole they are unfortunately fairly mediocre.

This must be a terrible joke... We stopped in here while on our way to the Badlands. We figured Mexican would be safe. It wasn't terrible here, but man it was pathetic. Now beggars can't be choosers, and since we were all starving, we appreciated hot food served by a cute waitress. The water boy was hilarious. The place was stifling hot and someone didn't get the memo about turning on the AC. I didn't care as I like the temperature to be 80F all year round. It felt good in the heat, but the poor water boy was sweating bullets. I felt bad for him. I ordered up some nachos, and really you can't screw that up. I also had a few Margaritas. I was traumatized on the way to SD. I ran over two pheasants and got pulled over by the State Trooper. So drinks were in order to settle my nerves... Thanks for feeding us. I don't think we'll be back, but it was memorable, as everything else was in SD!

We were back in the area so we had to see if the high marks were still called for. We both had different dishes this time, and the food was very good again. We would eat here again.

I liked this place. I had the "Camerones Monterey"...which are bacon wrapped shrimp, with peppers and onions in a white cream sauce... served fajita style. It was great! I saw this dish on a table next to me when I was seated and had to have it. I've heard the fajitas are good, and quite popular. The "ultimate" burrito looked great too. If you are on a diet, do not eat here. I think I ate enough food for three "normal people" when dining here. I just couldn't stop, it was too good. :)

graced this place twice in the last few weeks. They did a really good seafood chimi. The all you can eat chips and salsa is a nice treat as well. They don't hold them back. The rice and refried beans are also good. The first trip gave us prompt service while the second time we went they were notably slow. Still friendly though.

Decent authentic food - I was watching calories/carbs at lunch so ordered grilled chicken salad with salsa as dressing and it worked for me. Service was decent as well. Convenient to hotels .

Good food, pleasant service. Decor a bit lacking but at least they had nice Mexican music playing. Salsa and the guacamole were very good and the Tacata was cold. If I lived in Pierre I would most likely return, but then again not many culinary choices in Pierre, SD except fast food chain restaurants.

A colorful restaurant which gets fairly busy during the lunch hour due to their great specials. Great service, and the free chips and salsa were a hit. I'll agree with a previous yelper that the salsa was a little too watery, but it was still quite good. Fresh ingredients, good flavors, and a cool building!

Guadalajara's is great! Ask for the "other kind of salsa" when you get your chips and salsa, they have a spicier salsa that is very good. We have tried almost everything on their menu, and everything that we get is very good! Some of our Favorite: camarones monterey ( shrimp wrapped in bacon and covered with cheese with onions and peppers. Pollo a La Crema. ( chicken in a sourcream/butter sauce ) Fajitas. EVERYTHING is good!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
