Travel can be so much fun! After driving down the strip mall in Watertown, South Dakota, and with great disdain and boredom watching the Pizza Huts, McDonalds, Wendy's, etc. slip by, and feeling there is little hope for a country where mediocrity is celebrated, we drove into downtown Madison, a bit south, a town seemingly forgotten by corporate franchise-oriented fast-food USA. The downtown is historic, alive, and reminded us so much of where we grew up in the midwest. It sits on a lake with a very nice state park, so I have to differ from the comments about there not being much in this small town. Look a little closer, I encourage. Skippers is a good example of what many small towns in the midwest have to offer that you never will find in corporate franchise-oriented America. A delightfully decorated, small, mom and pop Italian restaurant with a lovely server lady who had nothing but smiles and fun to offer. On this day, Thursday, the special was a choice of sandwiches, and a trip to the soup and salad bar PLUS a beverage. The salad bar was small and of high quality. The soup was homemade and delicious (tomato/pasta) and the sandwiches (prime rib and chicken filet) were the best you would find at a fine deli. go to a fast food franchise and try to find this quality of food and ambiance for $7.25 each.

Well there isn't much to choose from in this little town. Salad bar was mediocre, soup looked disgusting, I wouldn't even open the crock pot. I have found that in small towns like these your only eating for nourishment, because the food is so bland there is flavor to anything. Only reason this place gets 3 stars is because it's slightly better than a pizza chain restaurant.

There isn't much in Madison, South Dakota. And when it comes to restaurants picking are even slimmer. That's why I was so surprised to find Skippers. The anchor logo on the sign and the name suggests seafood, but the word pizza is also included. What I found inside was a nice little Italian Cafe with stylized faux brick work and Tuscany murals painted on the wall. And the best part, Skippers has fine pizza and great, simple, fresh salad bar with delicious pasta salad, potato salad and crisp iceberg lettuce. It was a great lunch after a morning at Prairie Village.

Loved the chill music ... Had a Miller Lite while I pursued extensive menu. I opted for the healthy grilled chicken salad which was divine (and the fact it came with two garlic breadsticks was not my fault, right?) I was tempted by chianti on the wine list but ended up staying with my beer. Intimate setting - 6 booths plus a wraparound and 4 tables. Highly recommend if you are looking for good food mad cocktails in a chill atmosphere.

This place has great food, don't get me wrong. But their waitress staff is absolutely terrible. Everything I've been there, the service has been atrocious. If Madison had more places to eat, I would have never went back. But their veggie pizza and my vegetarian girlfriend seem to get along. not worth your time.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
