I stayed at the Bullock Hotel around October of 2014, but I never left a review. I'm doing it now because my stay was memorable. The hotel stay was clean and pleasant, perhaps a bit on the simple side (but that's why I was there!) The gaming downstairs I didn't take much advantage of, but it was fun. For breakfast though, they serve a mean Bloody Mary at Bully's. Seriously, it's the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. If you need to sleep, play some games, and then drink off that hangover with an amazing Bloody Mary... The Bullock is a godsend. I'd stay there again the next time I'm through the Black Hills.

I genuinely like the Bullock. I've only ever stayed here when in town. I'll admit part of my fondness for the place stems from my fascination with Seth himself, but that aside there's plenty to like about the hotel. I also feel like the inside is a lot nicer than the outside would lead one to believe. What I like: it's smack in the middle of things in Deadwood. Step outside and you're on Main Street in the middle of just about everything there is to do in town. I like that it is clean and well maintained (though the rooms could use a regular dusting.) The rooms are big and I enjoy the historic look and feel of the place. Parking it pretty close. The casino is quiet. What I don't like: it smells a little old -- not like historic old but more like grandma's closet old. Also the food is about on par with Deadwood's standards, and if you've been to Deadwood you know the bar is pretty low in terms of dining. I still haven't seen Seth's ghost, but I keep hoping.

This hotel is a historic hotel and exudes that Old West charm. High ceilings, dark decor, many wood trimmings made it a night spent in the past. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was not complimentary, but it was tasty enough and the wait staff was friendly and efficient. If you want an old West experience, give it a try!

We were two couples on a two week road trip. On our way to Mt. Rushmore, we decided to stay in Deadwood, SD at the Bullock Hotel. This was a good choice. The hotel is easy to find, however the free parking is a little harder. The Bullock parking is behind the hotel across Canam Highway. There is a nice pedestrian crossing there. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. The hotel is clean. They did a good job in the remodeling to keep the style but have the rooms comfortable. Our room was a corner room on the second floor so it was a little larger than our traveling partners room. The casino on the main floor was nice. Be sure to catch the street shows. One of the music shows was held in the Bullock Restaurant Bully's. Bully's is only open for Breakfast & Lunch.

Best breakfast. The French Toast sandwhich will blow your mind. The staff is super friendly. Will definitely come back when visiting deadwood.

One of the best things about the hotel is its central location in the downtown area. It was a short walk to the bars, restaurants and other casinos, but I probably would not stay here again if in the area. One of the reasons I booked our stay here was the ghost tour. When we called earlier in the day to confirm our reservation and ask about the tour time, we were told it was canceled because of a private event in a banquet room. I'm not sure how one room being occupied cancels a tour of the entire hotel, but it did. If you're going to advertise an attraction like this for your guests, you could at least inform them in advance of it being canceled. Another issue was the parking. Not seeing it allowed on the streets around there, nor a marked lot, we just parked in the downtown garage. Upon check-in, we were given some tag for free parking in an unmarked lot some place else in town....More useful information that would have been nice to hear before we got there. Because I didn't feel like walking back and moving my car, I paid the $5 for the garage fee. One nice feature was the dining room/bar area, but it was just another item on the list of things canceled for the night. By some miracle it was open for breakfast; where we saw it's vintage decor and fireplace. The food and service were excellent. Even though our room had creepy a window that looked out to the vending machine, it was spacious and nice. However, it was my understanding was the Bullock hotel could get away with charging more than the Holiday Inn down the street because it had original aspects to offer, like the ghost tour and vintage dining room, but without them you might as well save yourself the money and stay at the chain hotel.

We stayed in the Roosevelt Suite and were very happy with the room. It was spacious, clean, and had a fantastic soaker tub. I'm sure some will find the trim a bit worn, but we felt it just added to the historic charm.

The number 310 will forever be etched in my brain after the night of June 5, 2012. After a long drive through the craggy badlands of Western America, I arrived in Deadwood, South Dakota. Upon signing my name to the ledger I wandered the streets in search of nourishment. Luckily numerous establishments hawked their meals and I was able to find a spot for a peaty scotch and a bloody rare steak before turning in for the evening. Once sated I turned back to my domicile. There I shaved and donned my night garments. Nothing of interest was showing on the electric television. What a great invention from my compatriot, Philo T. Farnsworth. Unfortunately it failed me on this eve. Instead of watching a rousing game of baseball I lit my candle and settled in for an evening of reading my latest dime novel. It wasn't long after that I began to nod off. Morpheus, that wicked maester of dreams, had me in his cold, dark clutches and he had no thoughts of a simple release. A head filled with grog, I leaned to puff out my light but realized the wax was no longer burning. I did not think of leaving the window ajar yet there it was. Open, and a gusting. A wisp of smoke still dangling at an odd upwards angle from the smoldering yellow candle. A most obvious source of my current dark state. Yet... There was no chill in my room. That was to come later. I clutched my bedding to my chest, afraid that an intruder lurked in my domicile. Before I even began scamming the room he appeared at the foot of my bed. Thick handlebar mustached and wearing a 5 gallon hat, there he sat. A silver star pinned upon his chest. He stared into my eyes and even deeper into my soul. "Welcome to Deadwood," he intoned. Before I could respond my candle miraculously flamed again and the man was gone. My eyelids never closed again that night. The next morning I groggily wandered down to the front desk and tried to explain my story. "Well sir, that was Sheriff Seth Bullock and he's been dead for near a hundred years"....

On a road trip, my boyfriend wanted to stop in Deadwood, so we decided to stay at the Bullock Hotel. We were a bit disappointed with the town, but not with the hotel. The hotel was exactly what we expected. It is an older building with character. As someone else mentioned parking was a little tricky. We started to park in a garage, but decided to call the hotel and ask about parking first. They explained that the lot was across the street and they would give us a pass to park there. We ate breakfast at Bully's in the hotel. The waitress and chef were both very friendly and created a very fun and welcoming atmosphere. The only problem we had were that other guests were very loud in the middle of the night. That is something that could happen at any hotel though.

When I arrived in Deadwood last week there was a local parade going on, and I had to park in the Bullock Hotel lot, even though I wasn't registered there. Then I walked to the hotel where I was staying and figured out how to get into their parking lot. Deadwood is not an easy place to drive or park. So, I was in the Bullock Hotel parking lot about fifteen minutes, and I moved my car and asked if I could have my parking fee back. The fellow in the lot refunded my money and told me how to get into the right lot! That doesn't happen often. Next time I'll stay at the Bullock Hotel.

This review is just for the little grille inside as did not stay at the hotel. 7/24 went in for breakfast, neat little joint with what appears to be original 1870's ambience. Seated promptly, waittress provided great service and food was excellent, basic eggs, hashbrowns, toast & coffee, good portions and reasonably priced for a tourist location. . 2nd day returned for breakfast & wanted to try pancakes, different waittress told us since they were slammed no pancakes being served as takes too long. Found this interesting as 1) very few people in there at that time so their definition of "slammed" is different then most 2) would think pancakes would be something quick to do, pre made batter thrown on the griddle, etc. Anyway, other than that, the service was attentive and the food was again very good. And great coffee. Location is centrally located in middle of the downtown strip. Would go again.

Old hotel with significant historic value to the town of Deadwood. We booked our stay online at a very good rate. Our room was warm at 75 degrees when we arrived and turning down the thermostat did not help. I talked to the front desk on what to do to cool the room. To rectify the situation, they gave me a fan to pull in outside air. The outside window only opened about two inches. As someone in another casino fell out of the window, the safety concern created a town safety law. So, our two inches and a fan did the trick. Our room on the second floor also had a smell of smoke. For a smoke free room, the smoke from the casino below lingered in a bit. It was not too bad, but noticeable. Being an older building, I understood these situations. In the winter buildings tend to run hotter, while summer conditions are cooler. I just like my room cold. With the fan and the window open the temp did come down to 65. The casino downstairs only has slot machines. As I am not a fan of slot machines, we did play at other casinos with table games. The Bullock Hotel does have ghost tours every night at 8:00pm. We were not aware of the one time slot, so we did miss it. We did want to go and wished we would have known about it earlier. We did have a nice stay and were glad we did stay at the Bullock Hotel.

Beautiful historic hotel, located in the perfect spot on Main Street, friendly staff - especially the waiter/cook in their restaurant, Bully's ( great food, by the way). The room was quiet, gorgeous and clean. I will never stay anywhere else but the Bullock Hotel.

Great historical hotel and casino which was the original hardware store of Seth Bullcok. Great collection of Deadwood pictures in the lobby a well as some with Seth and various personalities of the day.

A fun place to stay in Deadwood. Rooms are very clean and large. They manage to give feeling of old west while being very modern. It is definately worth the few extra $ to stay here.
