Hostess extremely rude. Couldn't be bothered by us. I asked how long to seat 10 (which I know is a lot) and she said an hour. So I asked to split the group and she said we would be better off going somewhere else. Had to push my disabled father all the way down the street to Cattlemans. Extremely accommodating and very polite. Don't waste your time with the BB. It's BS!

Great elk and bison burger. The fries were really good as well.

Started out poorly and went downhill to downright bad. I gave one star only because Yelp would not accept the review zero stars, which I tried to do. The restaurant management definitely doesn't depend on repeat business in this tourist town, but they need to remember that there are review sites too. Hostess tried to seat us at the worst table in the restaurant or bar -- a tall table in the bar, right in front of the door. There were numerous other tables and booths available so we asked to be moved and she complied fairly graciously. Drinks: Our server didn't know what a Cape Cod was. He did bring the drinks out within a few minutes, but never came back to ask if we wanted another, or to refill our waters. Food Quality: I ordered soup and salad -- the chicken and rice soup was just OK, but not quite hot enough. Salad was greens out of a bag. My husband had the buffalo burger which he said was OK and it tasted just like beef. It came with french fries -- all 10 of them. Food service: 30 minutes after ordering with no food in sight, we asked the hostess to send over the manager. A few minutes later he arrived, just at the same time the food did. He gave apologies, and didn't charge for the burger. We were ready to pay for our drinks and leave but there weren't many choices in town that were open on a Sunday evening. I can't think of anything else -- except that a table next to us asked for the manager too, and he never bothered to come. It appeared that everyone's food was a long time coming out.

Full disclosure, this was my only experience at the Bull, but it was not grabbed by the horns by our wait staff. First impression, arriving about 5 min early for our reservation as we were sat at our table we were asked to be sure not to take too long to eat because they had another large party behind us in an hour. It was ironic they said that because of how long we ended up waiting for our food. There was a good variety of choice on the menu. Sandwiches or lighter fare were not served after 5pm which is understandable. The entrees proved to be overpriced for the quality. This may be a better lunch place but I won't risk trying it out. The decor inside was great, some original brick and stone walls. We were in the dining room. Their sports bar side looked more appealing and this may be where their focus is on customers. Our service was slow and sloppy. Drinks were refilled only when requested. The worst was the wait. We a party of 9, larger but should have manageable especially since we did have a reservation, waited for an hour and 15 min before the food arrived. As expected it ranged from cold to warm at best. The salmon was ordered by one of our party and when the food finally did come, the waitress had put in the trout. She offered to make her something else, so she chose a chicken salad because it was quick. It arrived quickly but was a simple iceberg with canned chicken, and fruit. The part that floored me was that she was charged for the salad. No comp for the mistake or even a discount. We didn't want to push the issue but rather just wanted to get out of there. My buffalo tenderloin was cooked as ordered, medium rare, which I was pleased after having others overcooked, but it was cold. In addition, the disappointment continued because the entree was the most expensive on the menu at $24. If it had been good or even arrived warm in less than an hour... I would have been fine with the price. Two had butternut squash ravioli which was tough and dry. I suspect that our order was cooked and forgotten, sitting back there cooling. The tough part was that our waitress wasn't around much for us to try to catch. I think she had a section in the sports bar side. Unfortunately we waited another 15 min to get our check too. They clearly need to work on their customer service. The only reason we went here was because the Sage Creek Grille was closed on Sundays. It has a reputation as the best in town. Maybe try it for lunch, the sandwich options looked decent, or if you are looking for a fun bar but steer clear for dinner, until they get their act together.

Terrible food. Ok service. Not my sort of crowd. Meh.

We were stopping over in custer on a road trip... this seemed like the liveliest spot with good food tho more expensive than expected. Great burgers, nice service. An easy recommendation for a fun dinner in Custer. Definitely save room for dessert for their ginormous cakes. Yum! Also looked like a fun spot for locals - lots of people watching the thousands of TVs and variety of games .... fun spot.

ok chicken fried steak but cold mashed potatoes though think they were not real taters. think much of the food is packaged and heated.

Terrible Service, Rude Owner Unfortunately, there are few options for restaurants in Custer during parts of the year. This restaurant does not deserve your business, and if you have any other option go there. The owner is disturbingly rude and thinks customers want to hear her speak rudely about others customers while they are still there. She does not have the patience or demeanor to manage or own a restaurant. If you have children, do not even consider taking them to this establishment. Reservations mean nothing much of the time, the service is terrible, and the food is overpriced for over salty, frozen foods. It took twenty-five minutes to get our drinks, an hour to get the food, and it was incorrect. They forgot part of the order, so part of us ate while the other part waited again. Most of the locals go for the bar side, and if the other restaurants were open year-round, Buglin Bull would be my last choice in Custer. You go in looking forward to a nice meal and leave feeling sick to your stomach, because you witnessed the owner behaving in an unacceptable way to locals and tourists. They reduce the size of the portions and prepare the food way too far ahead during tourist season. I recommend you do not give Buglin Bull your business. The restaurant may look inviting, but the owner and management are not.

Wow, what a disappointment, from start to finish! We had a reservation, showed up on time, they didn't ask for my name and had us wait for them to set the table for us! Other parties that came after us were served and seated before us. We were a party of 6, 2 of our party got their soup before we even had our drinks (which we waited half an hour for.) the salads arrived much later and the white Zinfandel was Luke warm from sitting around for so long on the bar! 3 of us ordered the trout almandine, one of them came with slivered almonds and the other 2 did not, they were dry and not even hot, the steak was ordered medium rare and was delivered medium! For the prices I feel they are over their heads, the value just isn't there. No one offered any kind of apology for the slow service or poor quality and it is a good job no one cared enough to ask us how our experience was on the way our as we had spent $175.00's and did not received what we paid for! Perhaps a well timed call to Gordon Ramsey is in order particularly if this is the norm!!!!

My husband and I stopped in our first night in Custer. He had the quesadilla and I had the burrito. Both were great. Also tried the micro brews and very impressed. Waiter was ok, but overall a great experience.

Loved the food! Service was a bit on the slow side - reminded me of eating in Europe. But overall very friendly. The menu does change if you want to eat on the roof top - and it also opens later. So keep that in mind

We came in late on the first day of our road trip and every one of us was exhausted and starving who just wanted some food to fill our stomachs. We felt bad when we stepped in this restaurant since it was close to the time they close the restaurant so we apologized for coming in late. However, the host replied with an annoying tone said " well, I assure that you guys will be the last guests tonight." 10 mins later came along with this waitress without any smile and a tiny passion of serving us, we finally got our water after 30 mins. The food was terrible. We order buffalo burgers with fries on the side, the meat was very dry and hard and you can tell the fries they served was the very last batch - greasy and disgusting. We would never go back to this place again and I would suggest you to save some money for better food and services!

Service on the deck is ambivalent. Nachos had fake cheese on them. Ew. Stuffed mushrooms were awesome. This place is really a mixed bag. Would try someplace else next time.

Had a real pleasant experience here. The server was quite attentive and did a wonderful job. The prices were very reasonable and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere is a bar/hunting lodge. It is ok for kids and when we went my 6 year old was on the edge of a melt down which was quelled by the tv at our table and a couple episodes of Sponge Bob, so major cheers for that! I would recommend.

We ordered hot wings which took 30 minutes to arrive. They were wings with the wrong sauce but we gave them a pass because they were still good. It took about 60+ minutes to cook two very well done burgers (which I specially asked to be more on the rare side since they were buffalo burgers), sides on the burger were also missing. Burgers were very dry and bland. After being comped a discount we felt that the price and time we paid were not worth what was received. With all the other great places to eat in the area we will not be returning. One positive* our service was very prompt and apologetic about our food.

This is the worst place we ate on our South Dakota trip. The place was like 85 degrees inside and the waitress was rude. We ordered a chicken Caesar salad and when we dumped the Caesar on the salad a clump of mold fell out gross... So we told our waitress and she acted like it wasn't a big deal and a manager never came to talk with us to apologize. I would not recommend this restaurant...

The food is classic American cuisine. I highly recommend the California Bull Burger. The service is fast and friendly. Our server, Bread, was extremely polite and accommodating. Great spot to eat!

It was the best evening meal of our June / July vacation from Chicago to Glacier National Park and back again. We ended up staying an extra night in Custer so we could explore Jewel Caves with two more tours the next day (or so we hoped at the time), so we had an evening for a nice sit down meal. The food was actually quite good, better than average. I really enjoyed my buffalo filet mignon, and would highly recommend it. My wife's grilled salmon was great, though the accompanying risotto was just so, so. My son's elk burger was snarfed up. My daughter had grilled steak tips appetizer and didn't want to share. It was a FULL plate for an appetizer. We arrived just after the outdoor deck was filled up, and the hostess didn't really give a damn that we really wanted to eat up there, telling us it could easily take an hour to 90 minutes or more if we decided to wait. She just wanted us in a downstairs booth and now. Fine. Hopefully, that was the last rude service we would have. It wasn't. Our server was uninterested, detached and only a sliver this side of being rude. She really couldn't be bothered with us or any of her customers, she was just doing her forking job (damn tourists). Very hard to give a ranking for our meal here. The food was probably worthy of 5 stars, the service barely made 2 stars. Beer was good, location was great, ambiance was wonderful, decor was eye catching. So I have settled on 4 stars. So if, like us, you can look past the shitty service for a better than average meal, go for it. I think you will find the food to be a treat. But boy, this place sure could use a lesson on service and treating the tourist customers like you cared about them. They can't keep getting reviews like I see here and expect to make it forever.

Enjoyed the mushrooms stuffed with bison sausage (but a bit expensive), caprese flatbread, and the elk burger. Good for a casual meal.

The food was okay. I ordered a solo pizza and Nikki ordered a buffalo burger. Solo pizza was okay and Nikki's burger was dry.

Good Beer. Decent food. Slow service. They are super busy today but the hostess seemed to be struggling and it took a long time for the staff to reach our table AND bring the check. Food came out fast after we ordered. We would come back because the beer is so good!!

My husband and I had the prime rib and my kids split a pizza. Everything was absolutely great. Great service and the waitress explained the menu and gave suggestions. Brittney was our waitress and absolutely fantastic! Thank you for a great experience. - Travellers from Wisconsin

This food was incredible! I went out on a limb and tried boar for the first time and I was so happy that I did. I find it a little annoying when there are televisions right at the tables in restaurants, but the VMA's were on so I didn't mind that I had something other than my family to laugh at. The service was good, very friendly and helpful.

We almost passed this place up because the reviews weren't the best but there was such a long wait at the place we picked we just ended up here. I AM SO GLAD WE DID. We started off with drinks and an appetizer. Our waiter was Guadalupe and he was AMAZING. He was so kind and prompt. We ordered the California burger but asked for Buffalo instead of regular hamburger. It was amazing. He got everything right and always had our drinks full. We were so impressed with the service and the food! Definitely 5 stars :)

Visiting the Blackhills this weekend to see to sites and went into Buglin Bull for lunch. The host was very friendly (& attractive) and helped to seat us right away. We ended up sitting for quite a long time without being greeted by our server; I finally had to ask the host if someone was working our section. Eventually, we were greeted and the food was great albeit smaller than expected portions. I leave it up to you to be the judge and I would tried it again if only for the atmosphere.

Would have loved to try the food but the bartender wouldn't serve me a beer without an ID even though I'm 40 and have grey hair, a bald spot, pot belly and wrinkles. Bartender couldn't come to a rational conclusion that I had been on this planet over 21 years with that information so I left.

Really disappointed with the management. Food was good. Service was good. But management lacks simple common sense. During the lunch hour they had a contractor pounding and drilling in the bar area. Since we were seated in that area, we asked to be moved. Even in the front area of the restaurant the noise was disturbing. It continued. We complained to our waiter. He said that he mentioned it to the manager. Noise continued. Why would they have repair work during the lunch hour? Sure detracted from what could have been a nice lunch. Never again. There are plenty of other good restaurants in Custer.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. We had a couple of local craft beers and a margarita as well as a couple of appetizers. Their buffalo sausage stuffed mushrooms were excellent and the full order of steak tips done in their special sauce hit the spot. We'd love to have this restaurant back home!!! I'd recommend this restaurant/pub to anyone looking fine great food!

Had dinner here with family on our black hills vacation. Food was pretty good service was great, restaurant is finished about as nice as any we have seen in Custer. They have some in house beers, the one I tried wasn't bad. Kind of a loud place, but that's good if you have kids. They have a lot of seating, the main floor is divided in half with the east side being a nice sports bar with lots of tvs. There is also a loft and a roof top bar and seating area.

After a long day of sight seeing and purposely waiting for that big meal for a reward after the long day ... we decided to go to get a steak or something new different and "gamey" At first walking in this place was hoping. TV flat screens in every booth but it was not to be for us. Those are reserved for groups of 4 ... bummer since we were hoping to see the end of Daytona... so onward to our table ...we hike up to the loft 2 flights of stairs & tucked under the 3 flight of stairs and in back next to the saloon doors hiding a waiters station ... The menu looks awesome! Im starving... ok, just really hungry. We ask how long it will to take to get our selections of Boar Buffalo rib eye steaks and pasta dishes? 20-40 minutes okay ? We are excited &decided to order a dinner salad .. ( sold separately ) and starter of nachos (our waitresses recommendation )..."it's huge & really good! " Our salads and nachos arrive at same time... The salads are beautiful, hearts of romain with garnishes of cucumber and cherry tomatoes. The nachos would gave been much better at a hot temperature ... my vision of nachos is chips with meat usually optional but included (picture taco meat with taco seasoning from del taco) melted cheddar cheese and salsa guacamole and jalapeños sour cream etc.... that isn't what we got ... nothing is hot ... Picture taco salad with lettuce sour cream guacamole salsa del taco meat and a Nacho cheese sause with spices poured on top and on a platter ... no kidding served cold ...ugh! My daughter's pasta : she took one bite and never touched it again . My ribeye : was cold to the touch as was my husband's ice cold ... veggies on the side zucchini onions sauteed til brown, all cold baked potato, cold and disappointing My older daughter ordered boar ... she enjoyed it very much she gave us all a bite (Felt sorry for us I think ) It was good, but I wasn't in the mood for it covered in cherry sauce .my son's buffalo was so raw he couldn't eat it ... He ordered it medium well waitress suggested med as to not "dry it out " He said OK ... However when it was served , it was purple raw in center ... Over all entree salads were excellent. The wild Boar was good if your in the mood for that with rissoto or mash potatoes as a side choice. That would be your choices imho!! Go for a burger ... not the pricey steaks or game Don't agree to sit in loft your food will be effected by the long hike as will your drink refills Waitress offered a 20% discount on our cold food and never offered any thing else we did not get a doggy bag nor did we eat it a few bites .... not a happy camper !!

When we first got to Custer, my boyfriend and I decided to walk the downtown area and stumbled upon the Buglin Bull. Turns out, we would eat there three more times that week - every time we were in Custer. Dishes we had were Buffalo Stuffed Mushrooms, Buffalo Burgers, Chicken Tortilla soup, Sweet Potato Crunch Salad, El Nacho Grande and a Ceasar Salad. Everything was very good and fresh. Service was on point and meals were reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

The bison burger was dry and looked lonely on the plate. The sweet potato salad dressing was way too sweet. It has a nice rustic interior but each booth is ruined by having a television! It is the most crass item to have at a booth! Service was fast and pleasant. Very popular place for tourists.

What a wonderful restaurant! We popped in on a slow Thursday night with about 12 people, then it grew to 15, and then 18! They accommodated us perfectly and politely. We ordered loads of food, but I can only speak for what I personally ate. The mushroom caps were delicious, but smaller than I pictured. However, they made up for the size by filling the plate with plenty of yummy morsels! I had a taste of my cousin's walleye fish and it was very good. My sister and I shared the tatanka tenderloin with risotto. Oh was it ever delicious! I didn't care for the carrots they served it with (they were nearly raw!). All in all, if they can keep up with the summer crowd, they will do well!

We had good food, attentive kind service, and found it to be good value. Although a sports bar is not our usual first choice, we will be back. My husband raved about his walleye in parchment; I enjoyed my steak.Best of all, we had a charming, helpful waiter who gave us good recommendations off the large menu.

Being back in SD for the first time in a few years, I had to get at least one taste of buffalo, especially after a great morning watching the huge beasts frolic out in Custer State Park, sometimes just feet away from the car. I kept it simple, a burger with lettuce and tomato. For those of you who have been underwhelmed by buffalo burgers, my hint: leave off the ketchup, mustard, and pickles. You can then taste the distinctive flavor much better. It was great. My side order of onion rings did not disappoint either, very thick cut and battered, fried super-crispy.

I wish I could review much higher because this place has so much potential. We were drawn there because of their great rooftop patio. It was a gorgeous day and we wanted a patio to relax and have dinner on and some drinks. We asked at the hostess stand if we could sit on the patio (we were surprised no one was on the patio). They said we could just head up the steps and sit anywhere. We sat down and ordered our drinks (the recommended margarita was good). We asked for menus and the waitress asked us if they let us know they only serve burgers and chicken sandwiches on the patio. I am a vegetarian and was hoping for a salad. I asked if I could order a salad downstairs and they bring it up. No. I asked if I could at least look at a menu (they don't have any available on the patio). I think you should try to be accommodating, why not let people order and you bring the food up to the patio. Doesn't make sense. So I asked what my options were and I would have to go down the stairs and ask for a menu, order down there and wait for it and then bring it up myself. We skipped dinner here. We came back the next day (the patio has great chairs and sunshine) to eat downstairs and it was closed at dinner time. Bummer. So much potential for this location but wasted on their service on the patio rules

there is nothing to complain about here but nothing will knock your socks off. decent beer, decent food, decent service. definitely one of the more lively places at the beginning of the summer season and booths in the bar have private tvs.

Atmosphere: B Food: B Service: A- Better than average "bar food," with multiple levels including an outside deck. I think the variety of places to sit throughout could make the experience a little different. So a return trip would be in order to get that feel. The service was very attentive, I would say the best service we received throughout the Black Hills for the week we were there. There really isn't anything else to add, I think the management should be quite pleased and it is a good indication of strong hiring practices. The food tasted fresh, the sandwiches were all good and the pizza as well. It is hard to become excited about the standard fare, but it was done well and I think that is important. All in all, a very good bar with a nice vibe and excellent service. I would definitely return.

Our waitress was excellent, but the food was just average. Took a couple tries to get the food and drinks right (asked for medium rare buffalo burger, it came out medium well for example). Elk Stew had almost no elk in it, all our food tasted bland. Nice space, and the staff were friendly.

This place is beyond amazing. Anyone who says otherwise, didn't get the wild boar shank or filet mignon!!! Two of us got wild boar and one of us got the filet mignon. I mean, even the side salads before the meal was good! Everything was amazing. We didn't even eat our dinner rolls! The regular food was so good! Also we had the buffalo stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer as well and that was also amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!!!!!!

Went to this place the week before July 4th, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. We tried the beer sampler, it was okay. I always like to try new beers but I didn't particularly enjoy their beers, the dark beer was the best. We ate the Bull Chip Nachos, I had high expectations since they were served on a bed of homemade chips. with chicken, bleu cheese, hot sauce and peppers. It was actually quite tasteless. The chicken wasn't seasoned at all and was cold. There were over half the chips that had nothing on them, no sauce, no chicken, no cheese. I thought it was "meh" at best. Disappointed. The server was nice.

The Buglin' Bull looked like one of the more happening restaurants in Custer and was recommended by the clerks at our hotel, so we figured it would be worth a stop in for dinner one recent evening. When I looked up the menu online, I was attracted by their impressive beer list and varied menu which includes your standard offerings of burgers, sandwiches, etc. as well as some Mexican dishes and meat dishes. We were seated immediately upon stopping in and ordered a couple of local beers. They also have a beer called 1874 Black Hills Gold which I believe is brewed specially for them. I was getting a little tired of the old usual burger and fries thing, so I ordered a Mexican dish which was pretty good. A burrito filled with grilled chicken and served with rice and beans on the side. Service was attentive and friendly and everything was very reasonably priced, especially considering the humongous portions here. The Buglin' Bull is a sure bet in Custer for an interesting lunch or dinner.

Interesting combination of the worst wine I ever had and the best boar EVER. The juiciest tastiest softest boar I ever tasted.

This place deserves better reviews. The owner and his wife were very friendly, the servers not so bad. The food was hands down amazing, and their beer flight taster was a great way to spend $6. I think we paid the same for a single 4oz pour next door. The wild boar shank put my passenger in a coma for the next two hours. I tasted some and it was delectable. The mashed potatoes and carrots were perfect, and my prime rib fueled me up to power thru the next four hours of our drive. This place is great, and I'll be back!

Ate there a couple of weeks ago with my family. Just passing through. We picked this place randomly. We were a party of 11. They seated us right away. And our server was terrific at his job. The whole place had a very welcoming feel. My family all enjoyed their dinner. I only had ice cream so I can't really say, but according to the 3 men in our family the prime rib was perfect! Really the only thing that was kind of a sore was the small bathroom & no changing table but aside from that GREAT!!

The best part of the meal was the bottled beer I ordered. The $19.99 ribeye tastes like a frozen hamburger steak and the butter for my baked potato tasted like it had been left out for days. My husbands buffalo wings barely had any sauce on them, maybe we just didn't order their specialty. The server however was very kind and attentive once she came to the table.

My son and I stopped at the Buglin Bull after a full morning in Custer National Park. My teenage son loved sitting in the sports bar with the personal tv. His made to order burger came out just the way he likes it. My Cajun trout salad was also good (glad dressing was on side, didn't need much dressing). The service was attentive. I would recommend the Buglin Bull.

While walking about Custer looking for a place to grab dinner, we happened across Bulgin' Bull. I was enticed by their wild game offerings, and the missus' was happy with the seafood selection, so we decided to give it a whirl. I don't know how many other eateries are in Custer, but I'm sure there must be one or two better than the ol' Bull. When we initially walked in we requested rooftop seating, and were told that we could just head up there and seat ourselves. Once walking quite a ways we found the rooftop, and there was one table left, but was short two chairs. No one was there to assist us so we had to go about asking other tables if we could steal their empty chairs. Once we were settled down we were given menus, and found out that there was a limited rooftop menu. We sure wish the hostess had told us this when we first requested to sit there, since there was no wild game or seafood on the rooftop menu...just sandwiches and apps. So we headed back down and told her we wanted to eat inside. She didn't apologize or anything, just silently took us to a table. I had the feeling she was mad at us for changing our minds, which if true is just ridiculous. For an appetizer my sister, bro-in-law and I split the Pheasant Flatbread ($9.99.) It was quite disappointing, especially for the price. First off, let me say that I have had pheasant before, and I am extremely skeptic as to the "pheasant" on said flatbread, especially since it tasted EXACTLY LIKE TURKEY! On top of that (literally) the dish was SMOTHERED in this cheese that was utterly disgusting. For dinner I ordered the Wild Boar Osso Bucco ($21.99), which came with mashed potatoes and carrots. The boar itself was pretty good and cooked well, but the veggies left a lot to be desired. There is no denying that those taters were boxed instant potatoes, which is a huge red flag for me at a restaurant. And the carrots were no more than unseasoned baby carrots. It was extremely disappointing. Everyone else ordered the Black Hills Trout Almondine ($17.99) and were all equally disappointed. The fish was cooked well but was topped with a very heavy, cheesy sauce that just didn't go well with the fish at all. Also, the "Almondine" did not come with almonds (despite the menu explicitly saying that it did) and when my sister and wife inquired about it, the server acted as if they were crazy. He went back to check with the cook and came back telling us it would be a few minutes to cook up some more sauce. As if they wanted more of that nasty topping! They re-stated that they simply wanted some almonds and he eventually came back with some, and the additional texture helped make the plate a bit more edible. There was no way we were sticking around for dessert, so after eating we bounced out. I wouldn't recommend eating here, and suggest checking out some of the other local dining establishments if you want a satisfying meal.

There are not many great options as far as food is concerned in this area, but this place had fantastic burgers and wraps. Best place in the area to grab a beer and have a good burger.

Slightly upscale places seem to be tough to find in these small towns in the black hills. This place was great. Atmosphere was very comfortable. Food was good, and they have offerings like pheasant, elk, and buffalo which is interesting for people from outside the area. They also had "normal" food too. I would for sure go here again.

We decided to return to this restaurant and sports bar after returning to Custer on another vacation after arriving into town on Friday March 14th. We went primarily because my wife wanted to watch some of the Big 10 Basketball Championship Tournament. We were seated at the back bar area so that we would be able to watch the game. Our server Brittany came by and took our drink order and quickly came back with our drinks. The Patron Perfect margarita I ordered was quite tasty and I am a bit of a margarita snob as I make a pretty good margarita myself with a lot of friends and family advising that I do make a great drink. Then Brittany took our dinner order and I asked how popular the Wild Boar Oso Bucco was. Brittany said it was a big seller and was pretty tasty. So I ordered it for my dinner based on the recommendation. The dinner came with either a salad or the soup of the day and being a New England Clam Chowder fan, I had to order the soup. The soup was all right and once I added some black pepper, which I do for my chowders that I order at restaurants, plus a little salt; I finished off the soup. I just wish it was a bit warmer than it was yet, I was hungry and I just love chowder. After my wife had finished her salad, a few minutes later Brittany returned with our entrees, including build your own pizza for our twins and the cedar plank salmon for my wife. The presentation of the Wild Boar Oso Bucco was pretty interesting. The boar was stood on end in the pile if mashed potatoes in the center of the plate with cooked carrots to the side of the plate. I cut into the boar and the first thing out of my mouth was "WOW!!" Such amazing flavor with the mushroom demi glace, I was totally amazed. I had to remember to slow down as I had weight loss surgery and need to always remember to eat slower to make sure I do not over eat. The mixture of getting a bite of the meat, demi-glace and mashed potatoes was just so good. My wife also enjoyed getting a taste of the demi-glace. As much as I did to complete the dish, I definitely have a nice left over for lunch and look forward to eating the rest of the Wild Boar. My wife said that the cedar plank salmon was quite flavorful yet, the salmon itself was a bit overcooked and dry. Fortunately the honey-mustard sauce served with the salmon helped to make the fish more palatable. The twins really enjoyed their pizza as well. Overall the meal was quite a success with superior service received from Brittany. It made for a good first meal on our current vacation to the Black Hills and may have another meal at Buglin' Bull on this or future trips to Custer.

While on vacation, hubs and I stopped in here to check the place out. We sat in the upper loft area of the bar which gave us a nice view minus the noise of the bar. Our waitress was friendly and gave us great service. I ordered the evening special which was 8 oz. filet wrapped in bacon and served with 12 butterflied shrimp (small, but still good) which came with your choice of potatoe, baby carrots and a salad!! All for $18.99. Not horrible considering its "season" for those in the Black Hills area, but after Sturgis rally. Hubs ordered a giant burger which he said was pretty good. We each had a beer (Armstrong Ale) which is brewed just for this place. Nice! All in all... we had a good visit.

We went in for dinner and drinks. Monstrous nachos were awesome. Loved the beef and cheese used. Definitely to share with three or four people. My husband tried the beer flight with their own craft beers - he loved them, especially the Armstrong Ale. Buffalo burger was awesome and so was the grilled chicken. Big portions and good prices. Service was friendly, helpful. Maybe a tad slow. TVs in each booth in the sports bar section. Definitely recommend.

Very much enjoyed it here for dinner. Nice ambiance. Great beers available. I enjoyed the "Elk Poop" porter. Oatmeal porter. Much like Guinness. My husband had the Elk stew in a bread bowl. He commented how tender the meet was. I had the walleye in parchment. That included rice and asparagus. The fish had a nice flavor. We appreciated being able to sample cuisine that is local to the area. Service was good. The booth we were in had its own TV and remote. Never seen that before. We watched the Rifleman which added to our experience here. I would return and recommend to anyone traveling thru after a day at Custer Park.

We were not expecting much being the 4th of July. We walked in and place was busy. Wife and I had a drink at the bar while a table freed up. We were seated about 30 minutes later. Menu was very diverse, a nice selection of burgers, sandwiches and kids food which I expected at a Sports bar. Next was a few dinner entrees, and a selection of Southwest Entrees. The Wild Boar Osso Bucco caught my eye, and my wife ordered the Prime Rib. We ordered the Buffalo stuffed mushrooms - fantastic! Next, our salads came out, and just at the right time, the entrees. OMG! The Wild Boar Osso Bucco was a towering meat popsicle surrounded by a moat of mashed potatoes and mushroom demi-glaze. The meat on the shank pulled easily off the bone, and had a nice deep rich flavor, not gamey at all. On the side was a small pile of baby carrots. This was a real treat, that I would order again. Wife prime rib was done to perfection. Food was way above par, and what we usually see in the Black Hills. Make sure if you go, don't stick to just the burgers or sandwiches.

  • Patti C.

The menu is interesting but it doesn't deliver on expectations. The walleye cakes were moslty bread and seasoning. The clam chowder was very thin but had flavor. On my salad, I didn't realize the lettuce was chargrilled and not the chicken. Who wants a hot lettuce salad? And the "house made caesar dressing" was the same spicy chile garlic sauce on the walleye cakes, not even close to Caesar dressing. My husband said the prime rib and au jus were good, but the rice was definitely from a box as it was mushy and super salty.

The restaurant was very crowded, but we were seated quickly. My husband I both ordered the trout almondine. The fish tasted fresh but was over cooked. The food seemed like it was mass produced and came from a steam table. It did not taste made to order. With that being said, it tasted okay but we will not be back.

Had a great meal for 4 of us. My husband and 17 year old son shared and loved the elk stew...inhaled it in fact. Really liked the buffalo burger too! My daughter and I shared the chicken Caesar salad which was very tasty...loved the pine nuts. And we shared the pasta Alfredo with shrimp. Awesome with asparagus and shaved Parmesan. So good! Really quality food all around. Decent beer selection including their own brews. Great service too...Christina was helpful and friendly without being too much. Definitely would return.

I did not enjoy the burger. It was dry and the meat was not juicy, like you might expect from a $9 restaraunt burger. And, that's just the price for a dry burger... they charge $.50 extra for every (and I mean EVERY) topping. Not even a leaf of lettuce or a tomato is included. On the bright side, the bathrooms were very clean, even though there was no hot water.

It's BS!

I wanted to sit at the rooftop after driving by and seeing this, thought it would be a great outing for my family and I, sad to say this is Lakota Country and we see for the first time what it feels like to have prejudice displayed among Natives. As the first people and a veteran, I have never ever been treated with such blatant disrespect than I received at the Buglin' Bull. The young waitress completely ignored us and when I went up to the bar to place a drink order after 20 minutes of waiting to be served only to stand there and again be ignored by the woman bartending. Still I politely waited as others got served and moved closer in to view. Another group came after I had been waiting a good 10 minutes, and as she walked by I politely asked "Excuse me can I place a drink order and get service at the corner table?" With the dirtiest glance and a very impolite huff with the answer "Excuse me while I serve these customers" then turned away from me to serve these people who had just barely walked in...the young busboy glances up and with an apologetic look said "I'm sorry, If I was allowed I would gladly serve you then went back to doing the glasses he was rinsing, I turned gathered my family and we walked off the rooftop. Custer being the Man that tried to wipe out the Indian nation, I now understood why the local Natives kept to themselves when I said Hi. The hostility I got from this establishment was incomprehensible and I will definitely tell everyone I come across to avoid this establishment for that treatment alone. I did report it to the management downstairs and pray that these two small minded people had a talking to but cannot be sure. I will not recommend this and will tell others of the mistreatment we Natives received.

This restaurant is on the Main street of Custer. It was a Monday night, late for a small town and not tourist season so take that into consideration. We sat in the restaurant rather than the bar and were one of two tables. The service was great...in fact our waitress was from Haverhill, MA which was a kick. I had the ribs which were good and my daughter had the Walleye. Only complaint would be there were some small bones in the Walleye but it is hard to clean freshwater fish. If you are in the area ..try this.

There have got to be bette places than this. We spent the night in Custer and our hotel (Super 8) gave us 10% off here. So we took our 2 kids and were there on a Sunday evening. Not too many people were there at all. I had the elk burger with sweet potato tots and my wife had the Indian taco. Our kids had what looked to be some boxed Mac n cheese. The Indian taco was ok I guess. No sour cream and I thought it lacked flavor. My burger had good flavor, wasn't dry but wasn't very filling. The tots just were not good. How do you mess up tots? The beers were good, waitress was very friendly, prices were average but didn't meet the quality of the food.

We were stopping over in custer on a road trip... this seemed like the liveliest spot with good food tho more expensive than expected. Great burgers, nice service. An easy recommendation for a fun dinner in Custer. Definitely save room for dessert for their ginormous cakes. Yum! Also looked like a fun spot for locals - lots of people watching the thousands of TVs and variety of games .... fun spot.

This food was incredible! I went out on a limb and tried boar for the first time and I was so happy that I did.

Place looks nice inside, but food wasn't great. Overcooked bison burger and garlic fries were just average.

there is nothing to complain about here but nothing will knock your socks off. decent beer, decent food, decent service. definitely one of the more lively places at the beginning of the summer season and booths in the bar have private tvs.

Nice breakfast buffet with cheap mimosas and bloody Mary's! I especially liked the omelette bar! Friend said kudos to the biscuits and gravy! This place rocked for breakfast!

Our waitress was excellent, but the food was just average. Took a couple tries to get the food and drinks right (asked for medium rare buffalo burger, it came out medium well for example). Elk Stew had almost no elk in it, all our food tasted bland. Nice space, and the staff were friendly.

Went there for lunch. The food was average and the service was just OK. It looked like the server had too many tables assigned to him so it was a little slow.
