Cubby's probably has the best burgers in Brookings. Generally the service is pretty slow and it may take a half hour or more to get your food once it's been ordered, so it's difficult to eat there on your lunch break. Nonetheless, it's a great place to go if there's a game on TV that you already wanted to watch. Cubby's is certainly one of my favorite destinations in Brookings.

Had cheese curds here & they were fantastic! We ate here with a party of 10 & everyone was very happy with their food & the service. We'll be back!

This place is seat yourself, at least when we were there. Admittedly very busy when we arrived. Numerous open tables but all recently vacated and none cleared. 25 minutes after sitting down at a dirty table someone finally stopped by. That isn't to say there weren't about 40 times a variety of different servers went by to serve other tables, made eye contact, but kept going. I'm wondering how many times a waitress has to pass a filthy table with a credit card slip and used glasses before realizing there is something up and helping out even though it's not in her section. You know, just clear the filth away, wipe it down, bring over a coke or something. We finally had someone stop by to clean up and take a drink order, but it was another 10 min to get a Coors Lite and a coke. Really? I could see the bar from the table and people could walk up and order. Dinner finally came and my guest honestly liked his wings. I had the Cajun chicken sandwhich and there was nothing Cajun about it. Dry, pounded flat, and covered in a thick coating of I don't know what kind of tasteless spices. However the waitress we finally had was very pleasant and did what she could. Not that I'm an expert or anything but this place is not managed very well.

They have a decent selection of beers on tap, including 1554. My burger was fine.

Pretty Typical sports bar/grille. Good burgers, but the drinks are a little overpriced. Fun atmosphere. Nothing to get too excited about though.

Puzzled by people saying Cubbys is slow. Compared to other establishments in Brookings, Cubbys is one of the best in terms of service, beer and food selection and atmosphere. To me, it's a model sports bar.

My fiance goes to school in brookings and it seems like everytime we go out that this is where it starts. Cubbys is a good sports bar. If there is a game on chances are they have it playing on one of their projector screens. Beer is pretty pricey just like any other sports bar. So far no problems goin there for the game and a beer.

Cubby's is slow and pricy for a sports bar, it is fun. It is a great place to catch a game and watch some tv. The only down side is that the tvs are older so the games are hard to see in the daylight...

Had fish tacos. They were a 3 in my book. Service was a bit rushed but my server was very pleasant. Very nice sports bar atmosphere. Lots of TVs with several different channels. You could definitely find something to watch. I would put the the service at a 4 and the atmosphere at a 5 . Overall a 4 for my first trip in.

Coming from a big city like Omaha, I didn't expect much greatness from the small town bar scene of good ol Brookings. However, I was pleasantly surprised. 1. I am a vegetarian and dreaded the typical sports bar menu. I was wrong...There are TONS of vegetarian options. That is AWESOME my friends. I had these jalapeno poppers with a raspberry sauce. Never have I seen that combination before and what a lovely combination on my taste buds of spicy and sweet. Yummy! My boyfriend loved his shrimp basket as well. He stated it was the best shrimp he'd had in awhile. The drinks are STRONG, not watered down. Thank you!! 2. I have this strong passion AGAINST uncrowded and dead bars because they make me uncomfortable. This bar atmosphere had a range of young and old people and a cheery atmosphere. You didn't see anyone acting out of control like you see often in big city bars so that was nice. Everyone just seemed to be having fun. 3. There is another cool looking bar next door (called 9) that we didn't have time to try but will eventually. After 10pm they open this large sliding door to connect the two bars. So if you get tired of one, you can walk to the other instead of going outside in the cold. I love that concept. My only dislikes and reason for one star shy of 5, was how we were not greeted as we walked in. The set up of the bar is confusing. I also noticed other patrons walking in wondering if this was open seating or not. At least have a sign up or greet new customers. We walked in kind of lost at first and 2/3 girls walked by and ignored us even though we clearly looked lost. Also what is the point of tipping when you are served by three different girls in one sitting? That didn't make sense to me at all. My last suggestion would be is to lessen on the t.v.s Is it really necessary to cover an entire wall with three zillion screens? Other than that, me and my boyfriend regretted leaving early to go to a lame party. We had a lot of fun there sitting and making conversation. We will be back. :)

Personally, I love Cubby's. For a sports bar, they have surprisingly fantastic vegetarian options! When you hear "sports bar and grill," you probably automatically think of greasy burgers and fries, but the menu here is so expansive that it's actually pretty easy to assemble a relatively healthy meal. For example, fruit salad (FRESH, not fruit cocktail) is a side option instead of fries. They also have a lengthy assortment of salads, some healthier than others. I highly recommend the spinach salad (spinach, strawberries, red onions, almonds, poppy seed dressing). I always order the 1/2 size, which is still plenty big and costs way less. That way, I don't feel guilty about splurging on a pint. :) Speaking of which...they have CIDER on TAP. That alone draws me in frequently! Lastly, the atmosphere here is invigorating. I sometimes find myself marveling at the energizing ambiance--people laughing, glasses clinking, forks dinging against plates, etc. It's good times all around!

Ate here for the first time and it's great! Food came quickly and in a great big portion too! The environment was nice and TVs everywhere. I would come here for next NFL game if I was in town. I enjoyed the Windy City Burger that I had. Thank you!

Great Wall of TVs for watching games. Some of the booths are really cool when the A/C is cranking.

This is my favorite restaurant in Brookings, SD! I always bring visitors here and never get disappointed. Try one of the burgers and watch some TV!

[AUTHOR'S NOTE: I meant to write this review in ALL CAPS, an aesthetic choice intended to simulate the experience of dining at Cubbys, but Yelp won't let me and they're ultimately in charge of this little webby transaction. So if you want to read this review according to the author's intent, just imagine ALL CAPS. Otherwise, good day to YOU sir or madam, but really I don't think it makes much difference. ] Listen, Cubbys is a nice enough place. The waitresses (and waiters! boys too!) are all Brookings-Sweet-Dot-Com and the food is good. In fact, their menu is pretty extensive: as others have noted, Cubbys offers solid veggie options and also offers smaller versions of their burgers, which is great if you're trying to shed the lbs you gained at Burger King, like I am. They also have regular drink specials and cheap beer options, gulp gulp. As others have said, the menu is a tad overpriced, but there are ALWAYS specials and you can typically have a satisfying meal-beer @ Cubbys for little cash. So here's my problem with Cubbys... It's a sports bar, I get it. And while it's not always loud and it's not always crazy (not even most the time), it IS always pitch black save for the wild electric glare of five hundred TVs in your face ALL THE TIME even in the middle of the workday. Cubbys is not just a sports bar; it's a really, really jacked-up TV-on-every-wall sports bar. After a while, eating at Cubbys feels like reading A BIG LONG INTERWEB POST WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS, REALLY IN-YOUR-FACE AND ANNOYING IN INAPPROPRIATE WAYS!!!1/// I mean, I understand that sports bars are a necessary part of any college town's ecosystem (I wish Brookings would get a few more of the necessary parts, frankly) and I'm all for hometown spirit. But I don't detect enough Jackrabbits spirit in the hearts and minds of the citizens of Brookings to justify Cubbys's whole Jacks-based sportsbar experience. I know I know, they're sponsors and everything, but they've got jacks stuff EVERYWHERE and between that and the TVs it feels a little...well, forced. Maybe Silent S. is just getting too old... And listen, I like Cubbys's food. Their appetizers are standard fare, except for like the Bavarian pretzel which is awesome, but they're good standard fare. And their burgers are solid. In fact, I think I like Cubbys's food more than many of the reviewers here who gave Cubbys "3 stars" oder "four stars"...I guess they liked other things about Cubbys besides the food. For me, the food is good but basically ruined by the fact of what Cubbys is: a really difficult place to sit and enjoy a meal. Unlike at Buffalo Wild Wings, whose food I don't like but whose TV-adorned dining room is actually fairly chill, when you're at Cubbys you feel like you're in SOME BUNKER IN THE MIDDLE OF URBANE WARFARE AND YOU FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO YELL TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PERSON SITTING NEXT TO YOU, EVEN THOUGH THEY CAN HEAR YOU JUST FINE! That's Cubbys.

Nice pub for Brookings. Family friendly, although most of the "family area" is close to the front door and can be breezy and cold in the cooler months. Wait staff seems to be college hire and temporary, so great staff is hit and miss.

Definitely a great place to go in Brookings. The food is very good, the prices reasonable and the service is great. This place was also smoke free before they had to be, which is nice for a sports bar. Outside of happy hour it's even a great place to bring the kids.
