Last night was so magical. Who knew that tucked away in a little small town, a magical garden restaurant, so quaint and cute, could exist? My parents went to this restaurant last week in York, SC. They really wanted my boyfriend and I to experience it because they fell in love with the cute little place. We called up to get a reservation for eight and they got us in (on a busy saturday) As soon as we pulled up, lights were in almost every tree. It was elegant and beautiful. They sat us out on the front porch. It was the cutest little set up. We sat on a rustic picnic table, with mason jar glasses, and it overlooked the yard with all the hanging lights. This was one of the most romantic spots. They take the time to make your dining experience rememberable and unique. Little touches like bottles and atmosphere go a long way. Our waiter was fantastic and friendly. They are famous for their fried green beans. They are so sinful and so so so worth it! The appetizers came out in less than ten minutes. We had the friend green beans, cajun filet bites, and pimento cheese and bacon poppers. The appetizers were so unique and cooked incredibly. It tasted as if they took your usual bar food and gave it a gourmet twist. I was shocked at their prices. I feel as if they could have charged so much more. With the lights, the atmosphere, the food, and all the great online reviews...it blew my mind how cheap everything was. If the dishes we ordered were in Charlotte, they would have ben double the price. I tried everything that came out on the table. I couldn't believe how flawless this place was. I was looking for one flaw...just one! Nick ordered the beer cheese soup with his meal. Beer and cheese? I'd never like something like that, so I took a bite...incredible. Everything about it. The chef/owner brought out all of our dishes, and I thought that was a nice gesture. Not only is she a bad-ass chef, she's an awesome business woman who has been running this restaurant since 1995. It's a restaurant, a wedding destination spot, and a gift store. She's inspiring! I was full from the appetizers, so I ordered grilled chicken salad. I was going to go with their snapper, but I'll get that next time! My mom ordered the pecan encrusted chicken salad, which was fantastic! The homemade dressings were so good, home croutons were crunchy and seasoned just right, and the produce was fresh. No one had a drop of food left on their plates. My boyfriend said the steak was "one of the best steaks he's ever had in his entire life", and Nick has had a lot of steak in his lifetime. My dad's burger was out of this world! We didn't want to leave this place. The atmosphere is so inviting and warm. In order to hang onto every last moment, we ordered coffee and dessert. As if it couldn't get any better...it did. We all split the key lime pie and the peanut butter pie. They are known for their butter cream pie, so we'll have to get that next time! The peanut butter pie tasted like pure peanut butter fudge, which is my favorite. The crust was sweet candied. I'm not even a key lime pie person, and I could have eaten that by myself. She also makes her own whipped cream. It's crazy how store bought whipped cream is nowhere close to being as good as homemade whipped cream. We didn't leave until 10:30. We walked around their gift shop and bought some of their handmade soaps. They weren't the type of people that rushed their customers out after they gave us the check, they encouraged us to hang around. This place is truly a magical garden. It's worth the drive from Charlotte. Take a group of friends, your other half, or yourself! You have to experience this place. York is very historical and it has the giant Southern style homes with the front porches. Go driving around! I can see why people choose this place to have weddings. It's hidden away and would be beautiful for an outside nighttime reception.

Very nice gourmet menu but not real pricey in the less than $10 range for lunch. The wife had the pimento cheese burger upon recommendation of the waiter. She ended up scraping off the pimento cheese but still enjoyed the burger. I had the Rustic Roast Beef sandwich. It had a good supply of Philly-type fixins' but the bun was' t anything to write home about. Be sure to try their flagship potato soup. Thick and creamy it was. I will definitely willl be back to try some of the other dishes.

My first dine here and I LOVED it! We had a group of bible study leaders for lunch and it was a perfect location for our gathering and our service, food and ambiance absolutely deserves a five star rating. I wish I had gotten the name of our waitress, but she did an AWESOME job...answering questions, checking on items for a friend with a severe gluten allergy very graciously and quickly. She made suggestions, was funny without being annoying and was super fast with filling cups and even left a pitcher of water since we were going through it so fast. We have many different items at our table, but I had the Boone Mountain Chicken Sandwich with homemade chips and it was delicious! It had a slightly spicy, but super yummy aioli sauce, bacon, cheese and lettuce...delish. Breads are made locally in Fort Mill according to the menu and my bun was very good. The homemade chips were super thin and super crispy...perfect! We sampled a few desserts among us - the Buttermilk Pie, which is apparently one they are known for was VERY good...almost like a coconut custard minus the coconut - I would definitely get it again! The devil's food cake was good, but the cake was a little dry in my opinion, though to be honest I am not a huge devil's food cake fan in the first place, so maybe that's the right way it's supposed to be. However the frosting was SO good! And I am super picky about frosting...but it was creamy, just sweet enough and I LOVED it! Creme brulee was another choice, but I didn't sample, though it looked good! There is a gift shop area when you walked was filled with antiques, reproductions and repurposed items (think utensil wind chimes and stained glass windows made with bottles), apparel, jewelry and handmade soaps to name a few things...Definitely worth a stop on it's own for a quick gift for someone on your list. I loved the eccentric designs and quirky items...fun, fun, fun! The dining area is full of antiques, shutter dividers and window pane photography and was cozy, a little country I suppose, but I found it quaint and quite charming! I already told my husband I want to go back and I know what I'm going to order...so wait for that review soon! ( I hope!)

We've visited the Garden Cafe on multiple occasions & have never been disappointed. Had their blackened steak salad with house (bacon vinaigrette) dressing yesterday for lunch & ate every bite. Almost licked the plate. And their fried green beans are a must. My son always orders the same thing, pimento burger with pasta salad. Every time. They vary their draft beer selections and always have something worth trying. In addition to their tasty fare they offer such an eclectic and inviting atmosphere, live music often during dinner, & a really cool gift shop. Definitely worth the drive out of our way to enjoy this place!

Very cool place to say the least!! Great food, great service, great place. Fried green beans?? For sure!! Spring/summer weekends reservations are the best bet as this is also a wedding venue. The local live music scene has been great as well. Buttermilk pie seems to be the dessert they "praise" ugg can't say I'm a fan of but their cream brûlée??? A must have!!!!

We were a party of 6 last night. All of us liked our meals. I had the bacon wrapped filet which was grilled to perfection. Only negative thing was the serving and price for the house wine. I paid $15.00 for two glasses of Cabernet. The total volume of wine was 10 oz. When I said something to the waitress about the little amount I was served she just shrugged it off.

I arrived on my motorcycle at about 8pm on a Saturday evening in late August. The weather was perfect, and the lights and sign out front were very welcoming! I found it a bit odd to enter through the gift shop, but take an immediate left and you will find the servers ready to seat you. They asked if I had a reservation and I said no. They looked a bit concerned (as though all the tables were taken), but then asked if I would mind sitting at one of the two tables in the bar room area. I didn't mind, so they were able to seat me immediately. I first noticed that there was some live guitar music in the dining room across the way, which was a nice touch, though he didn't play for very long while I was there. After looking over the menu, I went with the two steak filets (cooked medium rare, and they came out perfectly) with pimento cheese on top and horseradish mashed potatoes. It also came with soup, so I had the loaded potato soup. When the soup arrived, it tasted great. The texture was unusual though, and it was SO THICK it almost seemed like the texture of pudding. I'm guessing it was made with mashed potatoes mixed in. A few minutes later the main course arrived, and the steak was amazing. The mashed potatoes were good too, though I didn't finish them all because the horseradish was a touch too strong for my taste (it was good, but it kept me from eating as many mashed potatoes as I normally would with a meal like that). The server also asked me if I wanted any bread and I said yes, so she brought me out a warm roll with butter. It was very soft and delicious, so I asked for another (they were free). For the $17.99 price tag, I thought the portions were very generous. I didn't order any desert. Afterwards, I walked around for a few minutes in the gift shop, though I didn't see anything I wanted and there was no one around to sell it to me anyway (the gift shop might have been closed at that point, though I didn't ask). Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere is amazing and unique, and the food is too! I couldn't have asked for anything more. I'm very excited to take my wife next time and I'm sure she will love it too.

a nice experience Went with a friend I had been there with before about 10 YEARS ago when it was in a different location. Had a very good salad, salmon and asparagus, and coconut macadamia pie. It was hard to pick what to eat, a lot of thing looked really good, so I have to come back. Our waitress seemed kind of rushed and brought the bill before we were through talking but we stayed and talked and had a good time. The store at the front is very cute and different.

Great restaurant. Suggest hitting the cidery right down the road before. Fried green bean appetizer was excellent!!! Corn & shrimp chowder was very good but fair warning it's heavy. I had the filet and it was very good. Request extra creamy horseradish sauce on the side. My wife ordered the pimento cheese topped medallions & our friends had the country steak. They said the sauce was excellent. Green beans were so fresh. Very good service & live music & great decor.

Being a resident of Rock Hill for going past three years now, I never really had an excuse to visit neighboring town of York...until now. Since I moved into a home back in the tail end of last year that practically right on the border, I figured it was the perfect time to hop over the line to partake in a fine dining experience. Upon arrival at The Garden Café, I felt like I was being transported back in time with sort of a classic, earthy type vibe. We entered through the mini-shop area since the owner is apparently very much into original arts and crafts being very evident throughout the establishment. When we entered the bar area the hostess asked if we had made reservations (whoops! Poor planning on our part) but since we didn't we elected to wait at the bar until seats came open. 5-10 mins later (lucky us), we were sitting at the bar with menus in hand and our drinks being crafted by Brooke (our barista\waitress\an overall absolute gem so tip her well when you see her) The amount of quality selection in both their drink and food menu for a place that size was impressive. When chain establishment typical mix their house drinks with the low quality brands, TGC took the high road with top shelf brands which made me feel like we got extra bang for the buck. For the appetizer we had flour\spinach tortilla chips with Gorgonzola cheese (it's in the feta\blue cheese family as far as taste) Very fresh and yummy so it didn't last long between my lady and I munching on them. For the main entry, my lady went with the Chicken Dijonanise (comes with rice) with a side of chicken chill bean soup and I decided on the Bacon Cider Pork (comes with baked sweet potato) with the loaded potato soup. They brought out our soups first and even though both were excellent, I ended up having my choice cleverly swiped from my grasp by my gal who decided the loaded potato soup was the better of the two so I got to finish the chicken chilly soup as a consolation prize. Once our main dishes were served, our taste pallets were once again engulfed in a medley of wonderful flavors. The portions seemed smaller to the eye but were more than filling especially considering that neither one of us had ate anything much all day before we got here. Overall, I found myself really liking everything I had yet if I based it simply on the food I would have given them four stars (maybe I'm just extra picky now or didn't pick the best item) But I do think they deserve five stars and I don't give them out willy nilly either but the overall ambience, uniqueness and top notch service put them over the top. They had an acoustic guitar playing live and he was so smooth, we swore we were listening to a recording. All the staff was real cool, down the earth and treated us like regulars. I hope more establishment take notes from TGC as they have a formula for success that serves them well. They made two new fans last night and I'm pretty sure they will do the same for you if you visit.

We were going to York from Fort Mill for a concert and were just looking for a place to catch a quick meal. Once at the restaurant we actually thought about skipping the concert to stay and enjoy the restaurant. Nice place for conversation, live music, great service, comfortable atmosphere and above all great food. We're going back next month and taking a few couples with us.

I love this restaurant! Every time we've gone the food has been delicious and the service superb. You have to have the fried green beans. Before I moved to the south I'd not had fried pickles, fried tomatoes...or any vegetable fried. I now love fried green beans. I had the Back Porch and the fish tacos. Both were flavorful, burst in your mouth deliciousness. I have loved every entree and appetizer I've had at this restaurant. No matter what I choose the food is prepared with fresh ingredients that are pared together to bring out the flavors perfectly. I can't say enough about how lovely the food is...and the service is no less. Each time we've been our server has paid attention to the details, kept our glasses full, and given excellent suggestions when we've tried to decide on what new dish to try. I have not been disappointed and look forward to each new experience at The Garden Cafe. The eclectic garden design and homey feel of the restaurant make it feel like you're walking into a good friend's dining room. A couple of times when we've returned the furniture has even been rearrange. It's a pleasure to dine. I highly recommend The Garden Cafe.

This was our first time here. Went to Historic Brattonsville then up a nice country road about 12 miles for lunch. Had the Angus Burger with pimento cheese on Texas toast and a side of the fried green beans. I am 43 and have had my share of burgers. This was the best one I've ever tasted. Everything else I saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I will be returning! If you're looking for an off the beaten path place with the rare mix of quality food, pleasant service, affordable menu, delightful atmosphere and quirky charm, you will love the Garden Cafe.

Foods not that good and way over priced and you have to have a reservation to eat there. First time there we didn't know to make a reservation, so they sat us outside in the dark and took them 30mins to bring us our drinks.

This is a cute, unique place in the middle of nowhere. I wanted to love it so much. It was not bad, but it was not great. I wanted to try the fried green beans, but they were out. I ordered a garden salad and it was lettuce and cheese on a hot plate. The grilled cheese was delicious, but it was a grilled cheese. You can't go wrong there. I am sure that they have items that are great and I am not adverse to going back again, but my first experience was underwhelming. The gift shop was very cute.
