Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Wonderful dining experience. Greeted by Nicole and an order of this wonderful freshly baked dipping bread. We both got the Linguine Piscatore. An incredible medley of clams, mussels, calamari and salmon done to perfection. How can one get more Italian than a cook named Guiseppi who came around to each table to greet the diners. This restaurant is a gem and located in downtown Walterboro! We didn't even know this area existed -- recommended by the local Hampton Inn. If you are in the area, don't hesitate to go a bit out of the way for an outstanding dinner. Calm atmosphere and the TV was OFF so one can just enjoy the dining experience!

Very disappointed with the posted information. Said restaurant was open for lunch-we made a special trip off of 95 only to be let down when we were told it had not been open for lunch in years.

This meal was one of THE BEST Italian restaurants I have been to in a long time! Well worth the price! Have a glass of wine with you meal and soon Guiseppe will be out to check on everyone's meal! Delish!!

This is my second time here and the food is absolutely wonderful. The decor gives you the feel of Italy. I highly recommend this place for any occasion.

Definitely OPEN...so don't believe the "tip" post that it is closed. We specifically stay/stop in Walterboro to eat at Carmine's. I about had a heart attack with that chic's post. Thank god it is soooo wrong! Penne Arrabbiata is my very favorite and Carmine's is authentic and awesome. We had caprese tonight too and it was so fresh and delicious! This is real eating!

The only good thing on Washington st, besides the shops, is this place. Went there yesterday for the Antique & Arts Festival, (this event, waste of time, same shops putting their stuff on the street still with traffic), and finally had the opportunity to eat here. First, nice to be in an Italian restaurant that actually played Italian music. Waiter was from Italy, inexpensive lunch, fresh food. Small place, but worth the look-see. FrankG

Truly the worst service I have EVER received ANYWHERE! The owner is rude ("rude" is a compliment to how this man behaved!) The waitress, while seemed to do her best, was clearly not meant to be a waitress. Waited over an hour for our food after we placed our order!!!! A REAL embarrassment to our lovely Boro. Tip: If you are friends with the owners and are allowed to enter through the kitchen, you probably will get seated quickly and receive your food promptly.

The best, and likely only, game in town for a non-chain dinner. Very hearty southern Italian cooking. The bruschetta was outstanding. Pleasant low-lit atmosphere and spacious table arrangements. Very friendly service

Perfect! Absolutely perfect! This is the first night of a romantic weekend getaway with my husband. We were traveling on I-95 and decided to find a small town non-chain place for dinner. Karma sent us to Carmine's. Staff were all so nice and friendly, atmosphere was cozy with candles and fresh roses on the tables and even a guy playing on a baby grand piano. The food was divine! Hubby had the Shrimp Alfredo, huge shrimp on the shell, perfectly done sauce and pasta. I tried the Gnocchi, something I've never had before. I normally don't like tomato based sauces, but I couldn't stop eating, it was so good! Don't settle for chain places, come to the heart of Waltherboro and be delighted!!

Came here for lunch with a group of 8. We were the only customers at the time. We ordered bruschetta, cold plate, and mozzarella/tomatoes and they were fantastic. The bread brought to table was very hot and fresh. I ordered fettuccini with chicken and a side sausage. Delicious. One of my co workers had a delicious linguini with muscles and clams and he also said it was very fresh. No one had a complaint. The service was spectacular and the cost was CHEAP for all you get. I recommend!

This place is top notch! We took a detour do to bad traffic on i95. Eggplant parm, penne alla vodka, and linguine marinara are all a 10! I will return if I ever pass this place again. Only 6 minutes from i95. Hot bread and great olive oil and spices. Service was top notch and atmosphere was intimate.

I had the carbonara it was very good. Friends had the special lobster ravioli. They don't put prices on the specials menu so ask so you don't get sticker shock . They served a salad with only romaine lettuce and two grape tomatoes this was part of the specials entrée menu. For $25 you'd think the salad could be a bit better ! Crap two cherry tomatoes and some romaine. The pasta dishes and some of the other entrees should be served with at least a green saad but they're not its extra. Shame shame. The atmósfera is nice the service is good the meal was good but I think it's a bit over priced

We stopped in for a late lunch (off the interstate). We were following a bus load of about 50 senior citizens so our hopes were not particularly high. The first waitress tried to squeeze our party of 5 into a table for 4 but another older waitress quickly came over, asked us to wait a moment and put 2 tables together to seat us. Boy were we pleasantly surprised by the time we left! I had the eggplant Parmesan which was delightful and my husband (who used to work in an authentic Italian kitchen) said the marinara was one of the best he has ever tasted. 13 year old Son had the sausage and peppers sandwich which was messy and hard to eat but delicious. Husband had Alfredo with shrimp; sauce was flavorful and rich without being heavy. We originally got off I-95 to follow signs to some local BBQ place. Boy are we glad they were closed on Tuesdays!

We had to pull off of 95 due to severe weather. The weather was so bad, all of the restaraunts near the exit had at least an hour wait. We looked this place up and decided to give it a shot. It was great! Great service and all the entrees were excellent. We highly recommend it to anyone on the road looking for a good sit down dinner not far off of 95. We'll be back instead of another stop at McDonalds or Cracker Barrel.

Imagine walking in to a small Italian restaurant to the sound of live piano music and the song is Billy Joel's "Italian Restaurant". Good Karma, right? Service was great on this early Friday evening and the place filled up quickly. Apparently the locals love it. I had a terrific Fettuccine Alfredo and the wife had a to die for eggplant parm. House Chianti wonderful. The next time you stop overnight at exit 53 on I95 in SC, skip the chain restaurants and travel the 3.8 miles to delightful downtown Walterboro and this great Trattoria.

We found Carmine's on Yelp and Google. Great reviews. Took a chance on it. We were driving from Florida to NJ and gave it a chance. Well the only good thing I can say is the men's bathroom had soap, running water and a hand towel.BUT IF YOU WANT GOOD FOOD AND GOOD SERVICE-- STEER CLEAR. Btw. The ladies room had no toiletries. None.

Stopped here on our way back to NY after a vacation in Fla. Motel staff mentioned the place upon check in. Checked it out on yelp, only 3 reviews, but sounded interesting. The salad was crisp and tasted good. The Italian bread with the dipping sauce was excellent. My wife had lasagna, tasted very good and loaded with meat sauce. I had fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp. Excellent taste and had huge shrimp.

Decor, really cute for 1943, lets call it 4 out of 5: the best part of the evening. Service, took 35 minutes to get water, another 10 to get wine (served way too warm and already opened.) Another 20min for a salad (good dressing) and finally food after an hour and 10 minutes. Lets be generous and give it 1 out of 5. Food, I am not accustomed to needing a steak knife for veal. Limone sauce was so bitter: full of seeds and pith which the chef says he does on purpose because he's too busy to remove the seeds. Had the bitterness in my mouth for the rest of the evening. The Saltimboca had no basil and a sweet sauce. Both dishes were edible in the literal sense of the word but why bother. Based on others ratings perhaps they do something right? Maybe?.... but it was not our experience. And we are not people to complain.... I really wanted to help the owner/chef by informing him of the fact that you don't grind/cook lemon seeds into a sauce... but he seemed to laugh it off.

My husband & I had a delicious meal of Chicken Marsala & Limone Chicken tonight as we head home from FL Served with a great salad as well as bread & dipping oil. Very happy with meals & cannoli. Great wait staff too - very personable. Would highly recommend to those who like Italian food. Jan/Cape Cod
