Tacos con Carne Asada and Steak Fajitas were very good, plentiful and flavorful. The guacamole bowl was OK but had too much cilantro. The Maître'd could learn more about customer relations to provide a better service; aloof and strange sums him up. Overall, best Tex-Mex I've had here in South Carolina; being from Texas I'm a little picky.

This is the best Mexican place in Sumter, with, note, a Mexican ownership and staff. They have very attractive lunch specials, with a pleasant decor, and staff. I usually eat here once a month, and have not been disappointed. Muy bueno!

Their chefs are passionate about their work, their restaurant creates dishes exclusively from the freshest ingredients and the finest traditional Mexican recipes. Homemade tortillas, crisp lettuce, succulent tomatoes, tender, juicy meats, and savory spices. A family run busy with very friendly service. Lots of food for your money. You will need a to go box on most of the meals. Buy one get one free combos during the week. Military discount available. Happy hour with dollar beers. They even have Horchata (Mexican drink with almonds, rice, cinnamon, sugar and lime). It sounds weird but tastes great. This is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in town.

See my Review for Mariachi's... then you'll know how I feel about all the Mexican restaurants in town hehe.. but I think overall...and from a consistancy standpoint, Angles does a better job with its flavors and cooking then anyone else in town... its rice is ok... but better than most at times...the frijoles aren't too bad... and their menu has to me more items outside the "basics" .. The salsa is bland... but then it to me is a copy of pretty much everyone else's in town... albeit flavors may be different slightly here and there. Anyway, I think everyone, depending on what kinds of experiences they may or may not have had at anyone restaurant, and the way they like things flavored depending on how their taste buds are at the time, will go back to a place that tastes well to them... its the old "wine and cigars" attage where one wine tastes one way to one person, but completely different to the next... same with cigars.... and in this case... Mexican!

Angel's is not the must authentic Mexican Restaurant, but we are also not very close to Mexico in South Carolina. I would say it is a little more Tex-Mex than Mexican. They did a great job decorating the interior and the restaurant feels very authentic. The food is good, and the cheese dip is awesome! I would highly recommend their Steak Fajita Nachos and their California Quesadilla. (The Quesadilla has avocado and mushrooms in it.) The service has always been very friendly, and my family and I enjoy eating here.

I was here Sunday afternoon I read good reviews so I say why not? Waitress bad attitude, food not flavor at all. I order chicken fajitas nachos and was only chips and lettuce on my plate only orotund 10 small pieces of chicken. My husband he is not a picky eater and he dislike the food too. Never go back again.

Huge menu, so know what you're in the mood for or you'll be very indecisive. Either way gratis chips & salsa were tasty. Torta bread was sadly not available at the time but the chorizo tacos I got instead were good. Very affordable and again, lots of choices.

This is the largest and tastiest Mexican Restaurant in Sumter. They actually attempt an authentic look, with cool decorations inside and a desert landscape outside. . It's a huge place for Sumter with ample outdoor seating, a large dining room, bar, and a huge open room for parties. As soon as you take a seat, hot chips and salsa are brought to your table. Solid Tex-Mex fare with 90 different takes on meat, cheese, and tortillas. If you go to their website, you can print out a "buy 1 entree get 1/2 off a 2nd entree" coupon. So, two people can reasonably eat for less than $12 with tip.

So while I don't have any comparison for this location here in Sumter (yet), I will say that Angel's does a pretty good job of being tasty. Nice/Comfortable atmosphere, typical of most Mexican themed restaurants , and friendly service. It was mostly early evening, about 5:30ish, when me and my fiancé pulled in for dinner. Parking lot, and of course inside, were mostly empty, but a few patrons were in already. We are always a bit hesitant about what we order from a new Mexican location... hate to get something expensive or extensive and then end up despising the place. So we kept it simple. I went with their Taco plate (soft tacos) and my fiancé had the fajitas (chicken and steak). We were started with complimentary warm chips and salsa. No real crazy flavor to the chips (I've had salt and lime which are amazing), but they were typical and fine. Salsa seemed typical of most restaurants or from the jar styles. Tacos were good, not a lot of strong flavor to the meat, so they were tilting toward the bland side... but overall it was still tasty enough to eat without any huge complaints. Looking back I should have asked for a lime or similar to try and bring it to life a bit more. The fajitas were actually quite tasty, well seasoned and not overcooked. Definitely an order I wish I would have made. All in all, not a bad spot. Good to decent food, with good/nice service, and a comfortable little place. I do actually want/plan to go back because I noticed they had the more traditional corn tortilla style tacos (carnitas, etc). So want to give those a taste. I will be checking out the other Mexican joints in town (so watch out for those reviews to come), but I'll be returning to this one as well and would suggest it to anyone interested.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
