I usually go to the one in n charleston. This location was nice. I love the entrance with the tall night sky lobby area. Large sushi bar & bar. We had hibachi tonight. The food was awesome. Large servings. The price was reasonable. The food was delish. My children were entertained. My husbands belly was full. No complaints except how they couldn't walk to the car because they were undergoing a food coma. Lol.

This place has some pretty good sushi (not sure about the steakhouse side of things) and bento. Nothing terrible exciting, but it's all been tasty and the service has always been good. The atmosphere is very dark/modern/initmate, which works well with the style food they have. Our go-to sushi place in the area.

I have dined here four times, and the quality of food and service has decreased with each visit. I will not even get the hibachi here as there are other places in town that have better tasting food for cheaper. The Chicken is way too sweet. The steak, however, is very tasty. They use ribeye, so you get a lot of flavor with it. I was excited about the sushi following my first visit, but the rolls have gotten sloppy. On my last visit, I ordered baked rolls, and they came out cold. I also ordered salmon sashimi, and it came out in huge chunks. Others may not mind this, but I do not enjoy having to chew my sashimi for that long. Service at the sushi area is slow whether it is empty or full. They do pour a great glass of wine here!

While the price is very inexpensive compared to Myabi in Charleston - the food is very subpar. I won't be back here at all. Don't bother to get sushi - they don't know how to make it.

YOKOSO Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi in North Charleston. I have been there 3 times a week for a couple of months. I sit in the sushi room. The selection of sushi is good, and the Chef's do a good job at presentation. The quality is good and the prices are reasonable. I have been eating sushi for 30 years, many years of which were in Japan and Korea. The Staff is the best around. They always make me feel welcome and appreciated. The staff goes above and beyond to make each and every dinning experience a memorable one. I HIGHLY recommend YOKOSO Japanese Steakhouse for their sushi. The best sushi in the Charleston area. I have tried most other places in the area, and keep returning to YOKOSO. Real sushi fanatics will not be disappointed.

For the price, I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was of low quality, the portions were relatively small, and they would not substitute simple things without over charging. The salad was obviously from a pre-mixed bag, the "fried rice" was white rice and soy sauce; no vegetables, no egg, etc. The staff, however, when I was there were extremely friendly and accomodating, but the food was over-priced and under-good. There are much better Hibachi restaurants in the area for your money.

I have eaten here twice and will likely not go back. The hibachi wasn't very good, especially the chicken. The steak is tasty though. The sushi is just ehhh to not good. I have sat in the sushi bar each time and it is usually empty or there is one other table. Doesn't stop service from being terrible. Only positive I experienced was the amount of wine you get. It is basically two glasses.

Their sushi is up to par with some of the best I've had. I love the heartbreaker roll and the salmon is always wonderful. They price their drinks by the shot.. A rum runner will set you back $22 since its a half bar they only have expensive stuff- the hibachi was wonderful.. I think the chicken is the best part but you gotta eat it there because its not good leftover

Had 4 rolls between 2 people and the food was amazing. I can't get over sitting at a sushi bar and not ordering through the chef but through the waitress, awkward to say the least. There was also a loud obnoxious party seated in the steak house portion of the establishment lets just say I am happy I was not on a date because I could not hear a thing once they got going! Service was okay

We came here in October for my bday when they had half-off sushi. I'm not a big fan of hibachi so that was a major plus for me. On a weekday it wasn't as busy as I thought considering our dinner was at 7. It didn't actually get busy til later in the evening. I've never been here on a weekend so I don't know how it is, but we'll be here tonight for a friend's bday.

Okay, I gave this place another chance. Wrong move, if anyone thinks that this is a good Japanese steakhouse they haven't been to many. Their fried rice is nothing but soy sauce on white rice...where is the garlic, onions, vegetables? Their portion of rice is ridiculous; their food is bland compared to Kobe steakhouse and even our Japanese steakhouse in West Virginia. I have yet to find a good Japanese restaurant in Charleston.

Had a BAD experience on Valentines Day, 2011. This was our first visit to this place; we just moved to the area in November of 2010. About a week before Valentine's Day, we called to see if we could make reservations for Valentines night at 7 pm. The woman who answered the phone said, "Sure." Right before we hung up, she said to me, "You have a reservation for 2 people for Valentines night at 7 pm. See you then." Well, Yokoso doesn't understand the meaning of the word "reservation"!!!!! We got there and there were at least 40 people waiting outside the front door, and about another 30 people waiting by the front desk. My husband went up to the desk when we got in and said our name and that we had a reservation for 7. (It was 6:45 pm when we arrived.) The girl behind the desk said "We don't take reservations. Please wait. We will contact you when your name comes up on the list for a table." WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?? My husband said, "No, we have a ***RESERVATION*** for 7 pm." The girl, obviously miffed, said in a very rude voice, "WE DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS. PLEASE WAIT OVER THERE!!" Long story short.....we had no reservation as far as they were concerned. The same thing, we found out, happened to MANY other people who were waiting there like we were....they had called and made "RESERVATIONS" only to find out that they really had no reservations at all. It was just to put your name on a list....FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.....for a table!!!!!!! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN WILL WE STEP FOOT IN THIS RESTAURANT. WE DO NOT CARE HOW GOOD PEOPLE SAY THE FOOD IS. THESE PEOPLE ARE RUDE AND UNCARING AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT MEANS FOR A PATRON TO MAKE A RESERVATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The food is decent and served in very large portions, my husband and I always split a hibachi dinner (they charge $6 for splitting) and also order sushi. The service from the wait staff is generally poor, but the chef puts on a show. Recently, the chefs have been dogging another Japanese steakhouse in Summerville, and that completely turned us off, not good business practices. So, we've begun going to Wasabi of Summerville instead, where there is no mention of Yokoso.

My husband and I decided to check this place out about two weeks ago. We made reservations for a Saturday night and when we arrived we were asked to wait. We decided to wait at the bar which was not busy at all. Upon entering the bar area we were not greeted at all. Also, the Televisions which can be seen from the front door were showing an episode of The Real World, Las Vegas. Now I love my MTV just like the next person. However, to watch this in a restaurant before I eat is just disgusting. People were in the hot tub making out with multiple people at a time. And I realize we are in the bar area, but the TV can be seen from the front of the restaurant. What is even worse is this is a Japanese restaurant and the earthquake had just happened the day before in Japan. Why weren't we watching CNN or something like that. Or Basketball? Anything except The Real World!!! So, the bartender finally got around to us with absolutely no enthusiasm whatsoever, we ordered a drink and tried to ignore the grotesque images we were seeing on television. We decided not to ask her to change it because well it should not have been on to begin with and we were not staying there anyway. Once we got seated the hostess informed us the stove at our table was already turned ON. Why...I don't know. She just informed us to be careful. The stove still had rice all over it too. Our waiter came over and asked us for drink orders. He also stated if you know what you want I can take your dinner orders now.I just felt like he was trying to rush us, and it was taking away from the dining experience. Before leaving the table he stated his name and said for us to "remember it because he will answer to that a whole lot faster than a 'hey you'". Well, I could feel my blood pressure elevate at that very moment. The nerve of him to talk to customers that way. This is not Waffle House. Some people have more class than to yell "hey you" across a restaurant and to assume that the people you are waiting on would do that is ignorant. I would say a good 10 minutes had past and no drinks. The hostess was at the next table setting up and I asked her politely if they were perhaps understaffed that night ( I like to give the benefit of the doubt whenever possible) her answer was no. I informed her that we had not received our drinks yet, and she knew it had been a while because she had seated us. The waiter came out about 5 minutes later with the drinks and the soup (once again we are in a rush). Then he ever-so-badly joked here is your "dishwasher soup". Unfortunately, it just wasn't good timing for his joke. I didn't laugh. In fact, when he walked away I looked at my husband and said "i can't do this". We got up without touching anything and left. I had a brief discussion with the manager. Don't really know if it did any good.Didn't yell at her or ask for anything, just offered her some suggestions to make it a more pleasant atmosphere for customers. My husband and I went over to Wasbi Summerville and I am happy to say we had a wonderful experience there.

I'd go slightly higher than a 3-star for this...Their food was good, maybe not quite as good as the local competitor's (the rice absolutely did not top other local hibachi grills, and the steak was a bit thinner, making it chewier, even cooked at medium rare), but a solid hibachi experience. The chef we had was hysterical though. I know that they can come a dime-a-dozen, but we had a group with a handful of kids, and he was bantering back and forth with them, serving one shrimp tails "for his dinner", and put on an additional fire show per request by the young ones. He was a 5-star. Anyway, the food here is decent, but for the prices (the advertised specials were probably within a dollar of competitor's pricing) combined with the food, I'd debate on going back.

We really lucked out, and had the pleasure of Chef Steven for our hibatchi meal. He was funny, engaging and he got the entire table consisting of three separate groups talking and laughing together. The food was delicious. I got the ribeye steak meal, and my fiance got the chicken meal. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food.
Took the kids on a Sunday night, to try something different. We loved it. The service was excellent, food tasted great. The portions were about 3-4x too big, the waitress brought takeout boxes with the check. Plenty of leftovers for lunch!

Went yesterday for lunch with 5 friends. Big mistake. Lunch shrimp bowl had about 8 or so 45/50 count shrimp with a sticky sauce sitting on top of white fried rice and 2 slivers of broccoli. Their best bet would be to quickly take down from outside the banner proclaiming NOW OPEN LUNCH. I hope the other 2 patrons in this approx 200 seat restaurant fared better. In all fairness one of my friends said his bennito box was good, but it was also his choice of restaurants for our lunch.

In all fairness, I'm not really a huge fan of hibachi in general. You're at a table with a bunch of strangers, watching your food flip around and fire flare in your face and that is followed by the awkwardness of those same strangers later watching you eat. Not my favorite. Also, if you don't get your beverage ordering in during the three moments the server comes to your table before and during dinner you're simply going to stay thirsty which is a huge irritation for me because I'm the annoying patron constantly asking for water refills wherever I go. Ok... enough with my general weird hibachi issues and onto the whole point of this - the review! This is the second hibachi joint we've tried in the greater Charleston area but it was a pretty decent hibachi place. Our chef was fairly entertaining and actually did an onion trick I'd never seen before - pepper "fireworks". Versus the only other hibachi restaurant we've ventured to so far, I have to say that the sauces here were much better. Though I don't understand the appeal of "white sauce" and often find it difficult to watch fellow hibachi eaters make rice pudding with the three cups of fried rice they give you plus the quart or more of white sauce they end up mixing into it. Nevertheless, the "white sauce" here was OK - and the other people at my table seemed to greatly enjoy it. The meat was decent - the steak was a bit thinner than other hibachi experiences but it wasn't too bad overall. Overall, despite my hibachi issues, I'd eat here again (especially since my husband is a hibachi lover) but probably hope to have time to sample the sushi. Also, beware - the entrance to this place is slightly difficult to find as you have to travel to a side road to get to the side road to get to the parking lot!

The food was great. The service was terrible, one waitress for the entire sushi side. Soup was forgotten, drinks weren't refilled, no napkins, silverware, or chops sticks given with the food. 2 of our sushi rolls were forgotten. Everyone's orders came out enter mixed on the plates. 6 people total, 4 from out of state, very disappointing dinner for our guests.

This was our first visit to Yokoso and coming from California where Benihana started the whole japanese steakhouse hibachi trend, we were not sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised on all aspects of our dining experience. The food was super delish, entertaining to watch and we found it really enjoyable. The service was fast , but I think not offering additional drinks or dessert is a miss. The staff was friendly and pleasant as well as our chef, who engaged in conversation with us and was super nice.......he prepared our food perfectly as well. We had the filet and chicken along with some sushi which was all very good. Would go back for sure!

This Japanese Steakhouse is a little hard to find in the dark if you're not familiar with the area, but once you arrive, you will be surprised. The grande entranceway is impressive. The food was great and our server Steve was a delight for the night. He made us laugh and he seemed like he was having so much fun until we barely noticed that he was working. The waitresses kept our drinks full and we never had to want for anything. If you've never been to a Japanese steakhouse, this is a good one. Make sure you get the complete deal including onion broth, salad with ginger dressing, and a combination of meats to your liking. You will have leftovers!

Great experience! Went with a friends family to celebrate two birthdays. The cooks where very friendly and made for good entertainment. The portions of food where the most generous of any hibachi I've been too. The best part is the military recognition, and they offer a healthy 30% discount for prior or active military.

I had never been to a hibachi grill before so it was a unique experience for sure. The staff was phenomenal and the show was entertaining as well. I am not an overly social individual so I was nervous about sitting in a group of people that I don't know to eat dinner, but the chef made it comfortable. Food was excellent and portions were enormous. Highly recommend.

It was ok; not sure why it didn't 'wow'. Service was excellent. No problem there. We arrived at 4:30 and the teppan-yaki tables don't start til 5PM. No problem. We started with tempura vegetables - it was not so much tempura as it was a beer batter - dense and heavy. So not tempura, not so good. The crab Rangoon was okay - it wasn't spicy like the menu said but I did detect some roe (or similar fishy taste in it) so it wasn't my favorite, but a good try. We both ordered the ribeye and shrimp dinner. They give you a TON of rice (which was kind of crunchy - not Japanese sticky rice - but it was okay); a fair amount of vegetables and a fair amount of steak and shrimp. Not the best, not the worst. Left with a $60 tab so I am not running back. However, for the basic price of a dinner at $22, it wasn't bad. Maybe wait until 5 and have the dinner show. Makes it a bit more fun. On the upside, the soup was tasty!! The décor and space is nice and comfortable. Its a safe bet for a hibachi dinner.

Our groups favorite place to meet on a Friday or Saturday. We like to go to the bar area for half price apps, yes on Fri and Sat!! Service can be a little slow so don't be in a rush, but the food is worth it!!
