First time patron. I had the bacon cheeseburger on the egg bun. Awesome taste at the value. The fries were the small shoe string ones that I usually don't care for and were a bit too salty. I would recommend order no salt and put your own amount on the fries. The atmosphere was a bit loud and I had to speak up for my wife to hear me. Other than than, the establishment (including the bathroom) was clean. The staff was patient and understood it was our first time coming in to eat there. Side note: the shakes looked delicious and I will have to get one on my next visit.

First time here. Prices are on par with 5 guys, but I think the food is a step above. Good menu of interesting burger combos and I really like how you can turn a burger into grilled or fried chicken sandwich. Clean inside and out. Service was quick and they even had people come and check up on you during your meal.

Great fast food! Quick service and a very clean place. A bit pricey but it was all delicious. Glad we stopped in!

When they first opened, Smashburger was amazing. It seems, though, lately that they have slipped a bit. The counter service is a bit slow, so when the line gets long during peak moments, it moves at a snail's pace. When you order your $6-8 burger you will be surprised to find out for that price that it does not come with fries. You have to shell out another $3 for them. Sadly, unlike another high-end burger chain-that loads you up with enough fries for three people for that price-Smashburger is rather stingy. I'm always sad with the lack of fries I get. And No, I do not have a huge appetite, they really are tightwads about portion control. The past two times I've been in everything was over-salted. As a matter of fact I could not eat more than two bites of my last burger because it was so salty, it actually burned my throat. For the record: I am not salt sensitive, I am in fact, something of a saltaholic. Thus when I say something is too salty; I'm SERIOUS! When I complained I was told the kitchen was very busy and it could be 20 minutes before I got a new burger. I ended up just leaving, and eating a peanut butter sandwich at home. So 5 stars for the peanut butter sandwich, 2 stars for Smashburger.

I came here for a light dinner that was their avocado burger and a drink. I decided to try it out as I had a $2 off $5 coupon. Since I was not looking to eat much, this was a perfect time to try out the restaurant. I am certainly glad that i did. As mentioned above, their avocado burger was ordered. The burger was made exactly as ordered. It was very delicious and satisfied by appetite. The customer service was very good. The girl behind the register was pleasant and the order came in a timely manner. If you are looking for something different, I would definitely check out Smashburger in Summerville.

I would give negative stars if possible. Came in Labor Day. Hardly any customers in the restaurant. All of the tables were filthy and needed to be wiped. Had to clean the seats myself to get food off of them. Meanwhile there were 2 employees sitting in the back booth doing nothing. They werent on break, because they would get up every 15 minutes to look around. You should have seen how much food and trash there was on the floors. I would be embarrassed if this were my restaurant. The napkin holder was empty on our table so we looked around to get some from other tables, well they were empty on just about every table in there. My fries were so cold, like they had been cooked an hour before and had been sitting out. I'm talking about not even warm. My burger was good. Her chicken sandwich was so bland that she only ate half. This place is in desperate need of new management and I would fire the lazy employees they have now. Where are the franchise owners? This place is getting run into the ground fast! I can say that we will never be back because there are way too many nicer restaurant options within walking distance from this nasty place. Don't even waste your time or money on Smashburger.

This was my first time back after the Yelp event a few months ago and it was great. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger with Smash fries. The burger was delicious. Smashburger's truffle mayo really takes the burger to another level. I love Smashburgers's crispy thin patties. But don't take that the wrong way, they aren't too thin so you have no burger. Smash fries are awesome. I love the herbs the fries are tossed in. They were piping hot and crispy. Just the way they should be served. The staff was super friendly and quick. Didn't wait more than 5 minutes for my food. The staff was attentive and picked up my baskets when I was done eating even though it's the customer's job.

This place is pretty good, it's probably a couple steps ahead of fast food and you pay for what you get. The normal burger are pretty good and the fries match. This isn't the best burger you're ever going have but definitely not the worst. Service was ok, food was quickly prepared. Pretty pricey!

Smashburger is doing it right! I got to try every menu item at an elite event, and everything was delicious. Well, I've returned a year later, and they are still rocking amazing burgers. We didn't get special treatment at the party. They put out the best quality food each and every time. Every ingredient is fresh-to-death, so these burgers are sit comfortably towards the top of my personal best burgers list. The Smash Fries are definitely the way to go for a side. Get in there get some dank food if you haven't done so already.

I would say Smash Burger is almost on par with five guys. The food is really fresh and the Smash fries are awesome. I still think I would go to five guys for a burger but the grilled chicken sandwich in Smash Burger is amazing.

I was disappointed with this location! Every other time I've had them they've been so good, but our food was dry and over salted here. :( Generally at other locations burger and Fried pickles are fantastic. Price wise a little expensive, but good overall.

Smash is great! Basically the burgers are comparable to a steak burger from Steak N Shake and a patty from Five Guys had a kid, or sibling, this is what it would look like. Smashed style, like S&S, but larger (and much better tasting). The toppings are fresh, and the smash fries are worth the trip! Haagen Dazs milkshakes are also a must if you decide to commit to the full-comfort meal. Overall, it is on the pricier side, for the shakes anyway, but the burgers and sides are all separate, so it does seem higher. However, it's $4.99 for a small Smashburger (which is about a 1/4 lb), and $5.99 for the large Smashburger (which hangs a bit off of the bun). Really not any more expensive than any other burger joint (unless you are talking the shakes, which are almost 5 bucks, but you do get almost two full glasses with the extra cup you get). The service here was phenomenal and I can say it does live up to the service we had at the Elite Event!

Went to this place on a Friday, and it was pretty busy. One of those places where you fear you may not get a seat unless someone gets one for you. (Not so much a problem for two of us, but I could see where maybe a family of four might feel that way). The burgers we had were good, although I could see where some people may think they are salty. Compared to Five Guys, which this place most likely resembles, the burgers are a tad salty. Smashburger is a bit more on the creative side though, offering their smash fries (with rosemary), or even sweet potato fries. They also offer a variety of more unique burgers, the BBQ Bacon one was excellent with the "Haystack Onions". Finally, they have one of those "Coke Freestyle" machines where you can pick any number of 100 or more flavors of sodas which is still pretty cool. If I had to choose between Five Guys and Smashburger, I would choose Smashburger, because I am a sucker for a burger with bacon, bbq sauce, and onion rings.

Service was surprisingly quick. First time I had been here. Not too bad. Had the BBQ, bacon and cheddar. Bacon tasted a little over cooked but over all it was a good experience. Not often I get the "normal" burger at a place and it is enough. Glad I didn't get the big size, or I'd be over stuffed.

This is a welcome addition to the food choices in the area. It kind of reminds me of In and Out Burger, but with different choices. Fries were very good too.

We have been there a few times the food is always good the staff has always been very friendly. And it is always clean.. that has been a big plus for me because almost every restaurant I've been to in south Carolina has been dirty. Good food has always been a big part of my life. This has been the only place that is good and consistent. I can count on the food being good and the restaurant clean. I have been to other smash burgers with the same experience . Had to find places like this now thank you for all your excellent work and food

I'm so glad to see some more activity and businesses moving into Azalea Square. It can't quite compete with Towne Center in Mt. P, but getting there. Anyway, onto the food. Smashburger is a chain restaurant, but don't hold that against them. They have fresh ground beef burgers that they "smash" or flatten onto the grill. Its not the cheapest burger place to go, but they do have good quality ingredients so its worth the price. I they also offer several chicken sandwiches, which are "smashed" as well, or at least flattened out, in a good way. My favorite is the Avocado Club with chicken. One of the best features is the great bun they use. It's really pretty delicious and not all dry and starchy like some other burger places. Although I haven't tried them, they do offer veggie burgers and you can get veggie frites (flash fried carrots and green beans) as a side which I have tried and were surprisingly delicious. They offer a few different variety of fries, notably their smashfries which are thin cut and seasoned with rosemary and garlic...yum! Although not specifically endorsed by the restaurant, they appear to be dog friendly as they have outdoor seating. We ate their one night with our dog and the restaurant didn't seem to care. One tip, if you are going to get a shake, don't get it to go as they give you a significantly smaller amount than if you or it in, they give you the metal cup with the extras. This is an order at the counter and they bring you the food kind of place. The interior is nice and bright and relatively spacious. Be prepared to wait in at least a 10 minute line though to order. It's a pretty popular place, but I imagine over time, the wait will lessen.

This is one of the best hamburger/hot sandwich places around... My husband and I, along with extended family have been there several times. We have never been disappointed, it's always great food. We have never had a long wait. Friendly staff, the dining area is kind of small, probably just because they're so busy... But if that's the worst thing about that place everybody needs to try it!

My friends brought me food back from this place and we ate at home, so I'm not sure what the atmosphere is except casual. My friends ordered me the Blackbean Avocado Ranch burger, since I'm a vegetarian.. and let me tell you.. it was super tasty!!! The fries also are really good! My friends all eat meat and seemed to enjoy their burgers from there, two of them have eaten here previously. I would gladly eat here again. I would like to try their milkshakes.

Our first time here, and I am impressed. It was pretty delicious. Quick service too. I had a cucumber, spinach, and goat cheese burger with smash fries. My mom had the truffled mushroom burger and smash fries. My almost 2yo had a grilled cheese and fries. I would order everything again. I will definitely be coming back with my husband in the future. Plus, you can beat a free kid's meal on Mondays!

On a consistent basis this location has been fantastic! I always order online because I live within a mile and I have a new puppy, so the less time I have to spend somewhere the better. The food has always been great. Today however my order when I got it home was incorrect. I subbed different sauces and added cheese to my avocado club burger, but I got a regular avocado club. The only subs I did make that were done were spinach for lettuce and egg bun for wheat. While still good, the mayo on the burger just was not my taste. I also ordered smash fries and received regular fries that were slightly over cooked. Maybe they are new guys in the kitchen, but it was slow at the time I went to pick up (6pm) and my ticket had my order right. So in my mind, no excuses.

First time I ate here I was not impressed but it was also right when they first opened. After some time though they have improved and this time it was very good. Burger was cooked just right and still juicy. Smash fries were yummy and a good blend of rosemary and olive oil. Glad I stopped by for lunch because I had kind of written this place off, but it will fall back on to my list of potential go-to's for quick lunch.

Love smashburger, happy to see it in SC. The burgers are the real deal and you get quality toppings. I'm sure people will poo poo that it's expensive but guess what? It's more expensive because it's higher quality!

Yum! Wish they were a little faster at lunch time. One cashier isn't enough when you've got a line of customers waiting to order.

I dont think this place gets enough credit. I know of this place cause there was one down the street from me when I lived in San Diego, CA. I think this place is in a wrong location as the demographic is not there pin point audience so honestly I hope this place doesnt fail due to that from a buisness standpoint. The burgers are good and the smash fries I like. Its a cool fast place to get a good decent burger than Burger King or something.

We've been here twice and the first time was just ok. It's an overpriced burger joint. ($42 for 2 adults and 3 kids) The Carolina Chili Smashburger was fine, nothing to write home about. The Mushroom and Swiss is not good. No seasoning. (Hardee's is better.) We are happy to see new places in Azalea Square, however we won't be returning to this restaurant.

Waste of money there burgers are way to expensive and are not that good I would rather go to mcdonalds and get a dollar double cheeseburger besides there probably paying the same to the cooks in both restaurants so the prep is the same sauce on one side cheese hanging off u get my drift

I have eaten at the Smashburger in Summerville SC on 3 occasions. The first time the burger was great. But the second and third times the burgers were very greasy. Definitely not worth the price they charge. Good food 30% of the time is just not worth the gamble. Consistency counts! Jim Clark Summerville SC

I too had the bacon cheese burger. It was just ok. I have had better. It was $23.00 for the two of us. The fries are shoestring fries and they get cold fast. 5 Guys is better... IMO.

Definitely my new favorite burger spot. Fresh, top quality ingredients make a delicious burger. Top that off with a very friendly staff and some really tasty Haagen-Dazs shakes, and it's nothing but love.

We went here for our lunch today. I must say that I love my burger(forget the name) I ordered it w/ the pretzel bun instead of the egg bun that originally come with it. The sweet potato fries was good. The place is clean and the soda machine was cool. Its a bit expensive compare to others but will definitely back when my burgers craving attack :)

  • Tommy D.

We went here the other night. It was the first time we had ever been to a Smashburger. I wasn't aware it is a chain store. The store is brand new, they sell overpriced hamburgers... and a few other items. The coke machine was cool, it is the new digital kind like you can find over across the street at Moe's. All in all, went out with the wife and 7 year old daughter, paid over $35 for the three of us to eat hamburgers. Doubt we go back anytime soon. The place is clean, parking is limited and the atmosphere is a fast paced eating experience. People were standing in line to eat, all the tables were full, so we thought we should rush out so these others have a place to eat their meals.

The burger was cooked the way I like it. I wasn't a fan of the bun but all my extra toppings saved the taste of the burger. I hate the fries with the rosemary on it. Maybe next time I will try other menu items. Overall a decent burger place though.

First time going to smash burger, will not be the last. Employees were friendly. Clean environment. And the food is amazing! I ordered the BBQ bacon and cheddar burger, smash fries, and salted Carmel shake. Every thing was amazing!

AWFUL DON'T WASTE YOUR $. DHEC SHOULD SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN. This was quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever received and the worst burger I have ever bit into. First they were out of French fries. I should have run then. But Smashburger was recommended to us so my husband wanted to stay. The place was empty but there was a line out the door. We waited at least 10 minutes to order. Then we waited another 20 minutes to get our food. I took the first bite out of my burger. It was AWFUL. It was burnt to a crisp and looked like it had been smashed into a 1/16 of an inch flapjack. It was swimming in mayo. AND when I looked it closer I noticed that I had just bit into a HAIR embedded in the burger. GROSSSSSSSS!!!! I thought I was going to throw up. But I understand things happen so I quietly took my burger to the register and showed it to the cashier. She said NOTHING. I stood there waiting for a response. Nothing. Confused I went back to my seat and watched my family eat their food. The food runner stopped and asked how everything was. I asked to speak to the manager. No one ever came. My family was finished with their food. So I went back up to the register and asked for the manager AGAIN. I told them I wanted a refund. I saw a group of kids socializing in the back several minutes later one of them comes to the register. NO GREETING. He asks what's your ticket number. I handed him my receipt. He refunded my burger only. NO APOLOGY. NOTHING. NO HAVE A NICE DAY. NOTHING. RUDE GROSS. DHEC SHOULD SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN. THEY DON'T CARE. Also there were at least 8 people working that I saw. They had plenty of employees to make the restaurant run well. They just didn't care.

Smash fries are absolutely delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed my pretzel bun smashburger with added mushrooms and avocado. A lot of different topping options for customizable burgers, as well as a handful of bun choices. I was not disappointed regarding those two choices. The only thing I wouldn't get next time would be a milkshake that was on the smaller side that happened to be over $4. But I most definitely will be back for more grub when craving a burger! But no really... Those smash fries, Yum!!!

Was looking for a burger fi like experience. Not at all what I received. It was over 20 for myself and my 18 month old. He had chicken tenders that were mostly crispy breading. I had a chicken sandwich. Fries were shoestring. Didn't know this til after I ordered. Don't like that type. Felt like I could've want to BK and had the same experience for cheaper. Won't go Back or recommend.

My family has been frequenting Smashburger since they opened in Summerville every week. After tonight, never again. We got right in and placed our order to go. After I got around the side counter and saw the ticket times on the screen, I immediately regretted it. I had twelve tickets in front of me, and all of the times were at 27 minutes and up. I had to ask for the milkshakes that were brought to me within minutes to be put in the fridge. The counter staff had no idea the kitchen was backed up and there was zero communication between management, the kitchen, and the rest of the staff. We wound up eventually finding out that they were having problems with the grill, however at no point was this communicated to the guests placing orders. When my food finally came out after 32 minutes the manager on duty did come and apologize, but for me it was too little too late. The girls at the counter were very nice and even remade my milkshakes as they said the first ones were ruined after sitting too long. In the time i had to wait i did get a good chance to observe the staff and it appears that the cooks are extremely inexperienced and there was no leadership or organization. The burgers are very good, but after tonight I'll stick with Five Guys across the street.

First time at Smashburger, so we were not really expecting much more than the typical fast food place. However, my wife and I were very surprised at the quality of the burgers and the bun. More like the old fashion style, juicy with very good quality beef. The fries and onion rings are thin and crispy. The servings of these two items were so large we couldn't finish them. Everything served was good and hot, not a norm for this type of food. We will return.

Tonight was my first visit to a Smashburger. The place was nice... The order taker was very friendly. I got my meal to go. The moment I hit the car I had to start on the fries! And the fries were cold, old and tooth pick like. The Burger was very salty with jerky like bacon that slide out of the burger on first bite. I opened the sandwich to take a peek. The meat was crumbly held together by the cheese and I tossed what was left of the bacon. None the less, I questioned whether I should consume this thing, I did. Sucking down my lime and cherry tinted coke to combat the over abundance of salt. By the way, I wanted regular coke but their 1001 flavor drink machine was acting up. My third try to get PLAIN coke, the large button in the center; it continued to taint my beverage so I gave up. I have used these machines before with success... Within the hour, I was doubled over with cramps due to my stomach rejecting my 13 dollar meal. Two hours later I find myself sick- and will spare you the cramping details. Bad burger or unwarranted suicide beverage; your guess is as good as mine. This was my first and final experience at Smash burger....With better quality burgers at fast food chains at half the price, it's gonna take more than a trendy storefront to get me back! Two stars for the server, if it wasn't for her- this place wouldn't get a rating.

I had the bacon cheeseburger. VERY good burger: patty size was sufficient and very well seasoned, VERY juicy and texture was pillowy. Burger was with applewood bacon, thick cut and well seasoned. Burger served on a egg bun, very flavorful. The only potential negative about the burger was that it was bit pink inside (I liked it that way, but many don't). I did not order it that way and the company needs to consider alerting customers that is how it will come beforehand...or maybe it was an accident, which in itself is troublesome. This burger is the best restaurant burger I've had in a LONG time. I would've given them 5 stars, but the burger itself is not the only factor...you have to consider price also. $7.69 (with tax) is simply too much to pay for a upscale fast food restaurant. The burger is overpriced by about 20%. This restaurant is in Summerville, SC not NYC or LA!
