Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We've eaten here twice since we moved to Summerville and I cannot believe it has an overall rating of three stars. This place is absolutely delicious!! I've tried the tacos, enchiladas, and chimichangas. All of it was amazing! The fresh warm tortilla chips they bring out as a starter along with the fresh house made salsa is fantastic as well. This is not TACO BELL. If you want over processed, bland, gut grenade Mexican, then you won't like Margaritas. If you are looking for fresh, flavorful, real Mexican then definitely give Margaritas a shot!

The guacamole dip is amazing! I can't rave about this enough. Their menu is extensive. A little overwhelming to be honest. We have only been their once, but we are planning on returning very soon.

My husband and I love Mexican food so we decide to go to this restaurant. We had the grilled mixed meat. It is not that much for dinner. The waiter forgot my water for a while but it is not a big deal because I saw them very busy to take care tables by tables.

This place was horrible! My husband ordered the 27oz margarita which had only around 6oz of actual drink in it, the rest was ice. We complained and all the manager had to say was sorry. He honestly couldn't care less about his customers. The food was bad too. I had the lunch fajitas which had no flavor at all, there was no seasoning on any of the meat or veggies. We were very disappointed and defenetly not returning.

The worst experience of my life. Never will I go here again. Very poor customer service. Waiter could not get the order right. The menu did not match the slop I was served. I know good mexican food.. This is not it. The waiter tried to tell me the crap I was served was what I ordered. Horrible horrible. .

Use to come here every weekend. But the bill got higher and higher every weekend for no reason. I go to jalapeño on ladson rd now. Much better.

While I love their food, their service is just awful. Every time we have gone here, we encountered issues with wait staff. Extremely slow services and most of the time they screw up the order. Most recent time our family of five ordered our lunch and they only brought out 3 of our meals. The waiter completely forgot to put in two of our kids orders. We watched him write everything down and still messed up. We do love their food and drinks but the service should only get half star while the food is more like 4 stars

The portions are large and the staff made sure we did not wait a second for anything. Overall the food was ok, not the best place for Mexican food but I had no complaints other than it was more expensive than I was expecting.

Ok the food is ok but the customer service is less than one star. Me and a friend used to go every Friday night. Each time we went the bill got higher and higher. The last time we went the bill was 120.00 dollars. I had 2 margaritas and my friend had 2 margaritas and we had a taco salad just one I wasn't hungry that night. When I asked the manager why the bill was so high he said that was just the price. I paid and left but to screw over a customer that comes in regularly. That just crazy. I will never go back there. There is a Jalapeños off ladson rd which is closer to where we live and for the same exact thing we got there I only paid 34 dollars. Finally margaritas was a cool place but now idk what happen.

This place is a Gem. Every time we attend they are busy. So that alone tells you they have great food and service. The staff treats you well and the menu is extensive. Anything on the Fajitas Selection is superb! We have always enjoyed the table side Guacamole! It's not only good, it's entertainment for the kids. My wife enjoys the Scallops and Shrimp, and I prefer the Steak and Scallops. I would recommend Margaritas to anyone I know, and a great place to bring those who visit from out of town.

Best Mexican in Summerville.

Maybe it just was not my day. Had to wave to a waiter after 20 minutes just to get acknowledged and take our drink order. Food did come out fast, but it just was not good. I do not think I will go back, there are too many other options for Mexican food in the area.

Great customer service, very quick. love their salsa. decent drink prices. parking not so great.

What seemed to be the Manager or Supervisor greeted us at the door, he had a bit of an attitude and without saying welcome, good afternoon or anything else, he seated us. My wife noticed and immediately told me that we should leave. I convinced her to stay at least until we met our waitress/waiter. He was nice, greeted us respectfully and answered any questions we had. So we decided to stay. We ordered Flautas and Steak Tacos for dinner. I ordered a Margarita and some type of peach drink for my wife. The food was okay, we certainty had better. I didn't visit this business expecting traditional Mexican food, definitely not what I experienced all over Texas or California for that matter, but the reviews on Yelp were solid, so we decided to drive to the Summerville store from Charleston. When we finished, I of course went to the register to pay and the same Manager or Supervisor was working the register. He again was rude and didn't even say a word, not a thanks or how was the food. I gave him the money in his hands and expecting the change back in my hands (as good manners would dictate), he placed the change on the counter and without even acknowledging me or saying a word, turned his back on me and started a personal conversation with a waitress. He of course didn't know, but I'm fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and clearly understood what he was saying. Not that it matters though. The point is that he didn't care about the customers, had no manners, was rude and should not be working in a customer service related business. I RECOMMEND YOU STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. The place had a lot of flies, constantly hanging by the window right next to our table. A few blocks away there is La Hacienda Restaurant, which we know dominates the Charleston area with over 4 different locations. As much as I like to promote and sponsor small businesses, Margaritas has yet to learn how to take care of customers. I will definitely not go back, EVER!

Went for dinner not expecting what I am used to for mexican food as I am from California and KNOW what it should taste like, but thought we would give it a shot. WELL.....um, to say that taco bell might have something up on this place would be an understatement. Went with another couple and my husband. We got seated quickly and as soon as we literally sat down, we were rushed to order a drink. No hello, no "have you been here before" nodda. The place was getting busy so, we ordered a drink, I had a melon mojito which tasted like green jello with a carton of sugar and no booze. The menu is huge which always worries me, because honestly there never should be that many options. Good ole mexican food doesn't need to be called a million things to be good...it's basic, quality, cooked with love and proper ingredients. So, I order a burrito and what I received was some sort of rolled flour tortilla (paper plate soaked in oil) filled with chicken and fajita vegetables and some sort of white "nacho" cheese slightly drizzled ontop. This was their LARGE burrito, NOT. no rice, no beans, no sauce, no cheese, no flavor....no bueno. My husband ordered a combo of enchiladas and a taco...again no bueno, tasteless, unappealing to look at and no flavor. He actually ordered a burrito as well, which was the size of an enchilada and again......where is the ranchero sauce people! Anyway, I will keep lookin and not go back to Margaritas........you shouldn't either

My girl friend, our daughters and I ate here on Sunday. We sat outside on the patio and our waiter wasted no time in getting our drink orders. He was patient with our indecision and attentive throughout the meal making sure everything was to our satisfaction and keeping our drinks refilled. The food itself was good and reasonably priced. I will ABSOLUTELY return to Margarita's!

The Happy Hour is my favorite! =) The waiter was awesome, the food was delicious especially the chips and salsa. =) I will definitely be a regular here.

We came here on a Thursday evening and even though it was busy, we were seated promptly. The service was extremely quick and drinks were delivered within minutes. I ordered a margarona which was good. Chips and salsa were delivered while our drink order was taken. The salsa wasn't very authentic but it wasn't bad either. I stuck with chips/salsa, and margaritas. My boyfriend ordered chicken quesadillas which were pretty good and not too salty. The prices were a tad higher than other local Mexican restaurants, but I felt their menu was more authentic and less of the Americanized Mexican food you'd find at other restaurants. I appreciated that their employees were attentive and we were able to get in and out without an issue. I would definitely recommend their margaritas as they have a large variety. I would recommend this restaurant over places such as La Hacienda.

I don't understand the bad reviews for this place. We ate dinner here one night during a recent vacation to Charleston and had no complaints. The food was good and plentiful. We liked how the refried beans had some texture and not turned into mush as they are at some Mexican restaurants. Service was fine, our waiter Luis was friendly and took care of us with a smile. The happy hour Margaritas were good and the flan was some the best we have had as the custard was thicker and creamier than other flans we have tried. I thought prices were in line with any other Mexican restaurants we have been to. Overall, we had a good meal and fine service and would eat here again.

I've been here a while back for margaritas but never dined here. I heard this place had good Mexican cuisine and decided to give it a world. Service was kind of slow. It wasnt busy at all and it took 5 minutes to be seated. I can tell our server wasnt too happy for whatever reason. The service was mediocre and he took a while to get me and my boyfriend's orders. I ended up getting a vegetarian dish-a bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and rice and beans. My boyfriend ended up getting chicken enchiladas (I think). Of course, I had a small margarita which was pretty good! Our food came out super fast. Our waiter came back, have us the bill, and then kept the change!! I was quite surprised and found this very rude. Overall: Service-Slow, needs improvement in customer service Food-Okay. Not the greatest Mexican food I had. Prices-Fair Atmosphere-Okay. Not very spacious. Would I return for a second try? I think I'm good..ill just head down to Santis/Pico's for good Mexican food..

I just came back from Mexico for vacation and was craving their famous chicken soup. Margaritas chicken soup was amazing! Better than the best place we went to in Mexico!

Place is filthy and the food is disgusting. I've gone twice and it was the same both times. Better choice would be LaHa or Santi's.

If you're looking for a casual, inexpensive evening out with decent Mexican food, consider Margarita's. This small, family-owned eatery is just off Main St with ample parking, housed in an old fast-food restaurant building that has been nicely remodeled with a stucco exterior and a large patio under the trees. Inside, there are hand-painted murals of saints and bullfighters all over the walls, deep dim booths, and a laid-back, kid- and conversation- friendly atmosphere that's great for relaxing. Parents with children will feel welcome at Margarita's; the waitstaff are very patient and accomodating with kids. Most of the staff are Mexican, and though sometimes there can be a little bit of a language barrier they are unfailingly friendly and helpful, and very willing to suggest dishes or point out bright spots on the menu. That menu is one which focuses on most of the stalwarts of (Americanized) Mexican cooking with no bells or whistles; no matter what you order it won't be fancy, but it will be freshly made, a value for the price, and usually very good. The fajitas (steak or chicken, your choice) are reliably tasty and served sizzling hot with grilled peppers and onions, the a la carte enchiladas and burritos are overstuffed and full of flavor, and (as you might expect) the margaritas are big, cold, and strong! Happy hour here lives up to its name, with those margaritas and excellent prices for imported beer. This isn't a place for a special evening or a first date, but if you're looking for a good meal in a nice atmosphere and one that won't cost the earth, Margarita's just might hit the spot.

Good food....the WORST service I have ever had! The waiter took forever taking our order and when the food did come it was missing rice and beans. Then when we spoke to the manager he said it was a miss print on the menu! (That's a new one!) the waiter also made us feel like I should've spoken Spanish to him to get better service. It seemed to work with the people sitting behind us anyway. Don't get me wrong I'm Mexican and speak fluent Spanish but that shouldn't be a requirement for good service. It's a shame because the food is good but the service is lousy.

Cute little place in our town, staff is sweet and attentive. The food was great and so were the margaritas...we will be back!

This was my 2nd time here and I have loved it both times. I had the fried chimichanga with chicken both times and my husband had the steak fajitas and a platter with a variety of things on it. All were fantastic. Definitely recommend the pink sangria. Will be back soon.

Good affordable Tex Mex cuisine. Dined here for the first time, had the Nachos Del Mar which had a pretty good helping of seafood (shrimp and scallops). The nacho cheese sauce was pretty good as well. Wife had Chile Verde and she liked it as well. Good sized portions, decent ambience and a full bar are all a plus in my book. I wasn't blown away by the service but it was okay. Overall I enjoyed my experience and will go here again....they have an extensive menu and I look forward to trying some of their other offerings such as one of the enchilada or tilapia dishes. Would recommend to others for sure.

I went to margaritas last Friday night with a group of friends about 12 people. We waited for about 30 minutes which wasn't too bad but the was told we would be split in 2 tables. We sat down and only one table was given menus. We were told up front to make sure everyone pays for their drinks. They judged us because we were all younger people little did they know we all worked service industry. It was raining this night and after we sat down we heard a crash in the other room, and the ceiling tile had broken and water was pouring down, it was crazy but luckily it didn't effect us! Our table finally got menus and ordered our food. After that the server never came back to us. We received our food with no silverware, so we had to wait on that. Then I went the rest of my meal without a drink. When we stopped someone to tell them we didn't have drinks we were still ignored! The food was good but the service was soooo terrible even though they had about 15 people there in a small restaurant! I won't be headed back here ever!!

Well...what can I say about Margarita's that has not already been said? You are either going to love it or hate it-there is not a lot of gray area with a place like this. I had a chance to eat at Margarita's last night; on what was a very busy Friday dinner for them, and had a nice experience. What it is: A quirkier than usually cookie-cutter Mexican place with large drinks and a boisterous crowd. We ordered the "table-side" guacamole that was made in the kitchen and just brought out to us in a hurried fashion as our poor waiter looked as though he was servicing 1/2 the tables in the place. We just looked at each other and shrugged, and dove in. The guacamole was indeed freshly prepared with lime juice, minced jalapeno, cilantro, and very well seasoned with exactly the right amount of salt. Then we ordered our dinners. My dining partner chose a burrito, and I ordered the "el special corta". The burrito was really nice, and very, very tasty. My dinner consisted of about 10 nicely sized, grilled shrimp, and an 8 ounce steak; slightly overcooked-but I didn't specify a temperature, and-let's face it-this is Summerville. Most people like things well done up here. It was all resting on a sizzle platter full of grilled veggies and came with the ubiquitous sides of tortillas, pico de gallo, and more guacamole (which was NOT fresh and looked like something from a baby's diaper, so I left it alone). There was also a large roasted jalapeno on my plate-YUMMY! Do be warned though, I LOVE spicy foods. I can eat fire! This roasted pepper took my breath away. I was gasping, sweating, my eyes were watering, and MY EARS WERE RINGING from one single bite of this jalapeno from the pits of hell! LOL!!! It was delicious, but it was HOT. We also ordered a pair of large margaritas, and what came out were giant fish-bowl sized glasses filled with very green margarita. It was a bit embarrassing to have such an enormous drink sitting in from of me, and I do usually like a stronger drink, but for the size of it, I ended up being glad that it was not rocket fuel strength. So what I am saying is this: Go to Margaritas if you are looking for very good cookie-cutter Mexican food and drinks. If you are looking for gourmet cuisine and 3 star service, get in your car and take your happy ass 40 minutes down the road to downtown Charleston.

Horrible worst Mexican food I've ever had. Don't go here! Chile relleno was MOLDY! Disgusting. Ground beef has zero seasoning. Salsa has no flavor. No specials on Cino de Mayo???? Only thing edible between me and my husbands plates was a folded tortilla with some American cheese. Never again not sure how this place is even open.

This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in the Summerville/North Charleston area (can't you tell by my check ins?!) Aside from great service, the food is always consistent. I've been known to judge a Mexican restaurant by its chips and salsa, and this one won me over the first trip! Immediately brought to our table, drink orders taken and delivered. HUGE margaritas, daiquiris and happy hour every day from 4 to 8. When I don't imbibe in beer, I have a Piña Colada....large. We have a few trusted favorites on the menu, any combination of fajitas is amazing, enchiladas, flautas, and pretty much all of the shrimp dishes are my usual selection. You really can't go wrong with the food here. The service is always consistently great!
