My family took me here the other night after they had stopped here a few weeks prior for lunch. If you don't know about this place you will totally miss it because there are no lights on the neighborhood. It's located by the train tracks where the mustard seed restaurant used to be. When we walked in we were promptly greeted and taken to a booth by our request. There were only two other groups in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca and the others in my group ordered cheese manicotti and a pork chop. While we were waiting the table behind us got there food and everyone of their plates was overflowing with pasta and it looked like huge. I was already planning for extra meals. When we got our plates they were only half full and the person who ordered manicotti only got two small manicotti. My chicken saltimbocca was ok but not great. There was a lot of sauce and it was very oily. The sauce completely overpowered the flavor of the prosciutto and mozzerella. Overall the service was good, the food was decent, and the prices where a bit high.

Incredible meal, the sirloin florentine was the best steak my Husband and I have ever had. The deserts are worth gaining a few pounds for as well. Everything was freshly prepared and we felt very comfortable and welcome. Not formal, but pleasant. The staff were extremely nice and had ample knowledge of the food, preparation, wines, etc. Jessica, our waiter, was charming and never had to be asked for anything, two steps ahead. Unlike the previous reviewer being charged for bread, bread was free period....no charge whatsoever. True, it is possibly not the least expensive pizza joint in town, but extremely reasonable for quality. Best Italian in Charleston hands down!

About average food & service; they charge for bread with pasta which I thought was unusual.

My family stopped by for lunch one afternoon when my husband was craving pizza. We were greeted kindly at the door and escorted to a booth. Our waiter, gave us another warm welcome and took our drink orders. We asked for kids and pizza menus, only to find that the pizza machine was broken. No problem. There was no lunch menu offered to us. Only dinner. The entree prices ranged from $13.95 up into the $20's. On the kids menu was penne with sauce(4.95), ravioli with sauce(4.95), and chicken fingers and fries(6.95). Our server also informed us that they offered spaghetti and meatballs for the children, as well. My oldest two children ordered that with excitement. My husband and I each got the cannelloni(13.95). Our server brought bread out before our meal. It looked beautiful. But it had the all around soft spongy texture that bread gets from being microwaved beforehand. Not good. The kids meals arrived before ours, which was a blessing since our toddler was fussy. However, instead of spaghetti, the kids had received penne with marinara and meatballs. Ugh. Maybe im just one of those weird people that expect spaghetti noodles when spaghetti is mentioned. I can let that slide. The kids loved the meatballs. The adult meals arrived not long after the kids. The cannelloni looked delish. However, there were only 2 4" cannelloni noodles in a bowl. That was it. Not salad. No other pasta on the side. 2 cannelloni for 13.95. And my hubby and I were starving. And they tasted wonderful. We asked for more bread. That was another 1.99. Finally, the bill came. I was upset to see that the "spaghetti and meatballs" that my children were marketed was being charged to me as "penne marinara- 4.95 and meatball- 4.95". After overlooking everything else, that was the kicker for me. So in conclusion, I spent $90 including tip on my family to eat lunch and for all the adults to leave hungry. If money is no object, visit and order away! Otherwise: owners, PLEASE improve your portions and prices. And serve what is advertised. Thank you!

People seem to love or hate this place. I have been twice recently and enjoyed the food both times. First time was pizza, second time was shrimp linguine. Both were good. Service is attentive, and the wine list has some interesting choices. I was really sad when when Mustard Seed closed but I have to say that I like what the owners did with the decor. It is MUCH more inviting, and for those that remember it - the smell is gone . A bar has been built, the waiting area is now a cosy booth, and from what I can tell they don't use the big open side as much and keep things more intimate in the smaller dining area. Give it a try, you may be surprised, and if not we have lots of other Italian restaurants in town. Personally I hope this one sticks around!

Disappointed to say the least. Food was terrible. Veggies appeared to be leftovers, fresh cooked broccoli doesn't look or taste like that. Service was okay except she couldn't remember who ordered what and one of our party didn't get their meal until 15 minutes after the rest of us were served. I realize things like this are going to happen sometimes but we were the only people in the resturant! Our group won't be back.

Food was decent, but definitely overpriced. Our appetizer got hung up in the computer system and never made it back to the kitchen. We said we still wanted it and weren't in any hurry, but they rushed to cook it and you could tell. Calamari was cut way too thick and the breading fell off and was super greasy. It had a rubbery texture. Menu stated that each entree was served with soup and a vegetable. When I asked about this I was told that it was a typo on the menu and you only get one or the other. The potato soup was the best part of the meal, it had a good flavor and I could have eaten another bowl. That's the only reason I gave 3 stars. The lobster ravioli was good, but for $16 I expected more than 7-8 ravioli. Hubby had the chicken parmesana, the chicken was good but the spaghetti noodles were overcooked and the marinara was bland again not worth $18.

Went here based off a recommendation from a friend. Needless to say, I was not really impressed with the food. The one ingredient that is essential to most if not all Italian dishes....garlic....seemed to be missing from all of our food. Overall the food was just bland and in my opinion the portions were a little on the small side. On the bright side, the desserts were pretty good and I thought the service was very good. I will have to give other Italian places a try before I give Italy another chance.

This was our first time visiting Italy in Summerville and the food and staff were amazing. Angela our server was to great and Angelo, one of the owners, made us feel welcome. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana and my husband the Bistecca. The steak was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. My eggplant parmigiana was awesome...loved the sauce. We will definitely be back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
