Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Amazing pizza and great family owned place. The pizzas are very large and there are many toppings to choose from.

So this isn't really a review as much as an observation. I read the reviews, I compared to other pizza places near by and decided from my hotel room to come here. This business sit smack dab in the middle of most of the hotels in Summerville. Hotels for the most part are where "business travelers" stay. Guess what most business travelers carry AMEX, and you don't take AMEX. I had to turn around and go elsewhere. Just my observation. Good luck.

It is not my preferred style of pizza like Monza or Evo but this is one of my favorites for take out. I would say that Famulari's is right on par with Paisano's pizza. Their sauce is actually one of the beat I've had, its so sweet and chunky. I also like the toasty crust on the pizza. I haven't tried the Calzones but man, I saw one when I was picking up my pizza and it looked bomb!

Cheese bread is amazing, pizza leaves something to be desired. Mine was very bland and a little burnt. Not impressed.
(3)Zachary G.
Everyone in the group loved the food. I ate the Italian sub okay at best. Need some better bread and sandwich would be dynamite. I know the pizza is bomb from my experience at the other restaurants.

Not trendy, just straightforward, good pizza. We kept is simple by ordering a large, plain, NY Style cheese pizza. Pizza arrived hot and fresh, and was very appetizing.

We have ordered from this location on three separate occasions. If this was based only on the first time my rating would be higher. That time the Pizza was good and it was ready as soon as we got there (in the time they told us). The second time we ordered pizza for pickup and they told us about 15 to 20 minutes. We got there in about 15, and they were pretty busy inside, but it's wasn't crazy as the location is not too terribly huge. Even after we got there we had to wait another 20 or so minutes to get our pizza. It was obviously hot when we got it, but the wait was just too long. The third time, and probably the last for us, it was not busy at all. We just went for some sandwiches time. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes (we were eating in) when we were informed they didn't realize our order never printed in the back, so they just began to make our food. The manager made up for it by offering a complimentary dessert, which was tasty. I can't say the same for the Cheesesteak I ordered. It was hot, but the Nacho cheese sauce they serve on it is not a good taste for a cheese steak, especially if you've ever had a good cheesesteak in Philly. Also the meat is not really what you expect for a cheesesteak. If you decide to get one here, tell them to hold the Nacho cheese! Based on all the other reviews I feel like maybe we've just been unlucky at this location, but there are enough other pizza places around that we won't be going back.

Just recently moved here, and found this place. Their pizza is incredible! The crust is cooked perfect and the toppings are fresh and plentiful. Their supreme pizza is a must, and be sure to get a cannoli for dessert. We just returned from a trip to Italy and their cannolis are on point.

Great pizza and beer. We had the Chicago style pizza which was amazing. Tip- order ahead because it takes 30-40 to make the pizza.
(5)Melissa A.
My family really loves this pizza. Unfortunately, it was a little burnt today. Wish you had delivery out to knightsville/jedburg.
(4)Larry Y.
The pizza is ok, but not bad. The best thing we had was their spinach cheese bread app. Otherwise, not bad.

Closest thing to jersey pizza in Charleston. Good crust on the pizza but the sauce has good flavor and is just flat out better than the other pizza places in town. Never had an issue and the pizzas always ready within 20 min of ordering. This goes for both locations.

I work nearby and have been coming here for a few years now. The food and service is top notch. I've had their pizza, calzones, and cannolis...good eats all around. The sauce is good and I believe they make their own sausage which is also delicious.

Took 40 minutes to get a calzone for take out went to the counter to ask what was taking so long they had it done forgot about me and had given 4 people their orders who ordered after me got home and the order was wrong

Big Pizza Lover here, I've tried pizza all over the world, and this was some of the best pizza I've ever had! Must have the Chicago, stuffed deep-dish ..... even if you think is going to be too much to eat. ... it's amazing!

My husband and I have been coming to Famulari's for years now and we absolutely love them! This is the best place in the Charleston area to get pizza or a calzone. I've had their cheesy bread sticks which come as a circle with a ton of mozzarella. And they can be ordered as a meal by themselves. But you have to try their pizza! They make the best pizza! And you can choose just about anything for your toppings, they have everything from meatballs, to artichokes, to feta and blue cheese. The crust is thin and crispy and seasoned just right! And they NEVER skimp on the cheese. My hands down favorite thing to order here is their calzone. They have the best calzone I've EVER had. They fill it with so much ricotta and mozzarella cheese it's hard to believe they can afford to sell it for only $7.79! I usually get a few extra toppings, like pepperoni and feta, but its great just with the cheese. This is a calzone that can feed two and is definitely worth the price! A must have for sure! Famulari's usually has some cool coupons you can get online and they even have a frequent customer card! Once you fill it up you get a free one topping 18 inch pizza, a $16 value! If you want the best pizza in the greater Charleston area check out Famulari's, you will not be dissapointed.

This is the best pizza in the Summerville area. It brings me back to watching the New York Giants as a kid on Sundays. This is what pizza should be. Everything else from the calzones, to the cheese bread is always outstanding. If you're after a true New York pizza, and don't want anymore chain pizzas, this is the place.

Awesome food great service nice with the sports on the TV great Atmosphere not expensive at all
(5)Daria H.
By far the best pizza in all of Summerville!! I am from NJ and this place stands up to pizza from up in NJ/NY! Never disappointed with anything we get from here!
(5)Taylor H.
I placed an order for delivery for a friend, sort of a surprise dinner for him and his son. The woman on the phone needs some serious pointers in customer service. Not only did she read the address back incorrectly 2x and the order back incorrectly 4x, but when asked to write a very short (one sentence) message on the box her response was, and I quote, "No. We're busy. This is our rush hour, so yeah, we're too busy. No." Since this is the only interaction I had with the business I think it is safe to say that I am not impressed.

This was my first time going to Famulari's Pizzeria and I can tell you it will not be my last. Famulari's is located right behind the Walgreens in Summerville, tucked away in a tiny strip mall. We enjoyed a Chicago Style pizza that was so thick we had to use a fork and knife to eat it. We also got a large Greek salad that easily fed all four of us. This is a great location right next to the theater. I highly recommend coming in for a bite to eat with friends before heading out to the cinemas. They also have family specials and deals that are posted inside.

Stopped by and tried the Chokes n Chicken and Veggie pies. They were fantastic! The ingredients were incredibly fresh and it was obvious that a ton of thought and care was put into each ingredient. Some of the best pizza in the South!
(5)Jim H.
This was our first visit and it really didn't start out well, our ticket was lost and we didn't get our pizza. We brought it to the attention of the staff and they went above and beyond to correct the issue. Let's just say that when we left they had new customers that will continue to go to them for pizza. I would definitely recommend Famulari's. They have Great New York style pizza! The staff are very friendly and the dining room was very clean. This is definitely going to be our go to for pizza! They also had very good Cheesecake and Cannoli's!

Super wonderful pizza. Incredibly delicious sandwiches. Cheese bread so good. Calzone and stromboli monstrous. Customer service, second to none.
(5)Brandi R.
This is the best pizza I have had in Charleston. I lived in Italy for three years, and it has been hard to find pizza that even comes close to tasting as good; Fam's definitely comes the closest. The Angry Hawaiian is delicious; I get it with regular sauce vs the spicy tomato. The Fam's Feta is really good too. You can build your own pizza, or choose from one of their specialty pizzas. It is great having them at Azalea Square.

The wife and I tried it out tonight and I have to say it was really good. We got the Chicago Stuff Crust. It was SO good. I was slightly put off by the amount of grease but what do you expect with Double the Sausage and Double the Pepperoni!!!! I could only eat one and a half slices. This thing is HUGE!!!!! SO Good though! I would say calling and order it before coming in. The Pizza takes a bit to bake about 25 minutes. Super Good!!!!

Great Pizza, but choose wisely.

Famulari's Pizzeria is literally the best pizza joint in Charleston. There innovative pizza is scrumptious. The location of the restaurant is rather hidden behind a Walgreen's. Yet, it does not affect the atmosphere of the restaurant. I went with a group of coworkers and I was accommodated rather quickly. We ordered a large selection of their fabulous creations and the food came out rather quickly as well. Also their customer service is rather friendly. So far I have ordered their chicken ranch pizza, the Thai Pie, Chicago Cheese Steak pizza, Bacon Cheeseburger pizza, Chicken Alfredo pizza, and Carolina Blue pizza. All of them have been absolutely stupendous but the Thai Pie is by far the best. It actually tastes like a variation of Thai food. Famulari's Pizzeria is the best place for pizza in Charleston. I have been here many times and I will always return for the heavenly creations.

We absolutely love Famulari's! We usually get delivery, with great service. They're very friendly in the restaurant, too. The pizza is the best around. We just moved here and are excited to have found an awesome, convenient pizza place!

De-lish!! I'm starting to realize pizzeria are way better than the normal pizza places that are not really Italian. Clean, friendly and yummie is the three things I would give this place. I started to go to mellow mushroom, glad I opened yelp. Thanks for your help yelp. :)

Ok, most of the reviews are about the pizza. I made the assumption the menu would be good then. Tried the spinach manicotti, it was not tremendous. The garlic bread was good. The oversized chocolate cookie looked great in the wrapper, wasn't anything to consider again. Service was ok, I did carry out, so maybe not their forte. Altogether I wouldn't return for the pasta but I would try the pizza if others liked it.

Had the basic pepperoni pizza. Lacked the Italian spices, no garlic. Nothing to brag about , will not be back. By the way mop the floor with clean water not mud. Still looking for a good pizza in Greater Charleston area.

Chi- town pizza, build your own salad & meal deals too! Can't wait to get back here.

Fabulous pizza, service and value. The employees are super friendly. Fast delivery. Best pizza in Summerville.

I walked in late on a Friday evening, not planning to go out for pizza but after some other plans fell through, I found myself at Famulari's Pizza. I ordered a couple of slices to go as this was my first visit and I wanted to try a couple of different pizza varieties. I had no idea if they sold pizza by the slice (because it's not listed on the menu.) The young woman at the counter, explained to me that they could prepare some slices for me "to go" She was patient when answering my questions regarding the menu as well. While waiting for the slices to be prepared, she offered my friend and I a sample of their Gelato (I never knew that this pizza establishment also sold Gelato.) It was really good. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The slices were hot and they made them pretty quickly. I will say that they have fair/ good pizza but not great pizza in my opinion so keep this in mind when ordering. Maybe try a slice and see how you like it before placing a large order!

We have gone there twice, and both times ordered the same thing. We ordered the cheese breadsticks as an appetizer (think deep dish buttery crusted extra multi-cheesy pan pizza minus sauce) and a chicago deep dish. The breadsticks are great. The edges are a little crispy and crusty from the heavy baking pan with the bread and cheese perfectly seasoned. I could actually eat this as a meal. The first time we went, we ordered a traditional chicago deep dish with sausage. It was good, flavorful and nicely crusted. The second time, we ordered it with sausage, onions, mushrooms and bell peppers. This was even better and more flavorful than our first time. I keep wanting to try their thin NY style, but we cant resist the deep dish. The more I think about it, I should just order both next time, as an excuse to have the best of both worlds. Keep in mind though, if you order the deep dish, it takes at least 45 minutes. Definitely need breadsticks to hold you over. Or gelato. Homemade cookie maybe?

All the pizzas I have had here are amazing! The Fam's Feta is my favorite, though I really enjoy the Angry Hawaiian as well. They also have great toppings if you want to build your own pizza. Try the Greek salad too.

Best pizza in Charleston hands down. When I came down to Charleston, I was quite upset that I would not be able to have true New York Style pizza considering that NYC is 12+ hours from Charleston. I tried some places in the North Charleston area and found them to be dreadful- did not come anywhere close. I then searched Yelp for good New York Style pizza and landed on Famulari's. Famulari's currently has two locations- both in Summerville. This particular location was more convenient for me as it is very close to I-26. This location is very nice- it was recently redone and the renovations really made it look even nicer! The pizza is the best you can get in the Charleston area hands down. The pizza tastes like it comes straight from the New York Metropolitan area. Cheese is perfect, sauce is perfect, breading is perfect. Many pizzerias overdo certain parts of their pizza to make up for low quality ingredients, but not Famulari's. If you are not on the up and up with pizza lingo, I urge you to try it well done (cooked to the point that the cheese is browning). It makes the pizza taste even better! If you haven't tried Famulari's yet, I urge you to try it, you will not regret it. I suggested it to one individual and now he is on his way to trying all the different pies!

Someone should put a picture of the Chicago Style Pizza's on here. I often drive from Mount Pleasant to Summerville get pizza...because Chicago is too far. If you are a fan of REAL Chicago style deep dish, you need to give Famulari's a try. I give it four stars only because it is second to Giordano's (which is in Chicago).
