Beware of some reviews and pics, they are for a different restaurant with different owners. That being said, Shogun on warren h Abernathy rd is a terrific place. Quality food and incredible sushi. Try the volcano roll or spicy tuna roll and the yaki beef. You'll never go wrong with the filet and chicken. The bartender has a heavy hand and our saki of choice is sour apple, not too sweet. My husband and I never get tired of this place!

Venue: clean, spacious seating Staff: courteous Cook: funny, great interaction while cooking Good food in a nice environment, where the Cook (Chef) is funny & entertaining while he displays his talents over the grill for live showing of a meal well prepared. Owner very friendly and personable towards the group I was with (Group of 7). Only complaint is that I waited a good amount of time for my drink from the bar (had to ask for it twice).

Without a doubt the worst sushi i've have ever had, and yeah I'm including grocery store prepackaged sushi. I love Shogun in Macon, GA because their staff is awesome, the sushi has a lot of variety, and it always tastes great/never disappoints no matter what I order. I assumed that being a chain restaurant there would be to some similarities between the one in Macon and the one here in Spartanburg. Man was I wrong. This one had no crab sticks (my favorite appetizer at Shogun) nor were there any rolls that similar to the one in Macon aside from Nagiri or your basic tuna or salmon roll. I ordered the dumplings (gyoza) thinking that would be a safe appetizer to try, I was mistaken. I'm aware that they are pan fried but I've never had them in cheap flaky breading that you serve on fried shrimp tempura. As for the sushi, it was either bland, covered in that flaky fried stuff (making it more bland) or it had one flavor over power the rest of the food to the point that was the only thing I could taste. Never going back there again and am very disappointed.

Crappy service. Too long to wait for sushi that comes out hot when it should be cold and fresh. Not too keen on eating at tables with strangers.

The food is pretty good.. The service is so so.. I was there when a family got up and walked out because service was so bad.

This place has always been consistently good but Mother's Day was an exception. The portions were unbelievably small (just dined here three days prior) and the tip for a party of three was automatically included in the bill. Waitress was not courteous at all, especially when questioned about tip. Wouldn't waste my money if a reservation at Kanpai was available.

Had a wonderful Filet & Mushroom dinner. Service was warm & friendly. Chef was funny & cooked my filet perfectly mid-rare and tender. My only complaint is whatever tea bags they use to make their tea has an odd aftertaste.

We went here a fee weeks ago for my brother's bd. the wait wasn't long. We were sat at the table beside the main kitchen door. The food was okay, not terribly great, but every time they opened the kitchen door it smelled like a toilet. So gross. PLEASE FIX THAT! Also, our waitress was a bit m.i.a. I got my water spilled on me by the cooker (not a problem, really), but it was a few mins before I saw the waitress again and I actually had to ask for a new water and napkin, she had no idea why I was standing behind someone else while another worker, very gracious, was cleaning up the area. She was a bit lacksidasical (sp?) on the uptake and service in general. If we hadn't smelled a toilet with every opening of the swinging kitchen door, it would've been closer to getting 4 stars experience. The sherbet at the end was a nice touch, and their candied carrots are really good.

If I could have given them a zero star, I would have done that. Save your money and find a nice Logans or outback. The staff is unbelievably rude and they are not interested in pleasing their customers. My husband dropped us at the door on a busy Saturday night to keep us from the cold, and the lady taking the rservations refused to even put us on the list for seating until he walked in the door. The service is ridiculous. The food is worse than Japanese you might find in a mall food court. Avoid the food poisoning and have a nice dinner with your family somewhere else. We are very generous customers, and we make certain to tip well and ask for little, but this restaurant is not a place we will ever return to. SAVE YOURSELF!

This place deserves one star, but I'll be generous since it's located in rural South Carolina. I came here with my family and my 14 y/o sister's friends to celebrate her birthday. We had 7 people in our party and they still sat 2 random people on the corner. Seriously? We couldn't leave 2 seats empty so we could have a nice (private) birthday celebration? Anyway, the chef for our table did the lamest knife show at the beginning and his steaming "volcano" was pretty sloppy. The waitress took our drink order, but didn't give us water and was nowhere to be found. I ordered the Filet Mignon medium-rare and big shrimp. Apparently, big shrimp means extra shrimp, not large shrimp. The filet mignon was poor quality, flavorless and served medium. They also barely served any vegetables. My mom had the lobster which was equally disappointing. The moment the chef left the table the waitress finally came by with our checks. I felt so rushed. I will not be back. If you find yourself in Spartanburg and are looking for a nice meal, take a trip to Greenville.

Any time I'm in Spartanburg, I always stop in. The filet is always incredible. I am very picky about how my meat is cooked and rarely receive the medium rare I order, but Shogun always serves up perfectly medium rare meat.

This place is decorated much like other Japanese Steak Houses I've been to. We've had good and prompt service when I've gone with my family, and we usually get hibachi. The hibachi is good, and they give a nice portion for each serving, so that's nice (a lot of places around their price range tend to skimp on the good stuff). Sometimes I come here to do sushi lunches with co-workers. There aren't a lot of good sushi restaurants in Spartanburg, but this is probably one of the better. It's fresh and served pretty quickly. And if you get them on a discount day, it's definitely worth it! Anytime I go, the service is good and quick. I recommend, especially if you're in Spartanburg and want decent Japanese!

I have been here a couple of times in the past and experienced the teppanyaki cooking show and meal with a group. That is entertaining but gets old and while the food is good it is not great. However, I went this past Friday night to the Sushi Bar and I was impressed. The sushi was excellent and the service top notch. It was a tad expensive but worth the money. I found that they have a .99 sushi night on Tuesdays and something on Wednesdays. I plan to be there this Tuesday.
