Since they banned cigarette smoking in the City of Spartanburg the atmosphere has steadily improved. Combine the killer redneck cheeseburger and great fries with the local musicians and you have a backstreet treasure in the heart of Sparkle City. Highly recommended.

The Nu-Way Restaurant & Lounge is a classic here in Spartanburg, but it is also a hole-in-the-wall. Not many people really know about it. I've eaten here twice--once in March 2013, and the date I wrote this review. I enjoy the service and hospitality here. There is also local bands who come play here (which I have not seen yet). While here on 8/21/2015, I got me a "Honky Tonk" burger that had BBQ sauce, bacon, onion rings (I removed the pickles), and this burger--while I did hit the spot, does not really beat Ike's Korner Grill. There is nice jukebox here that had tons of country music playing, but I counteracted it with Pantera's "5 Minutes Alone". :) But yes, if you are downtown, 21 and over; want to party, drink and grab a bite to eat, the Nu-Way is a great, local dive here in Spartanburg!

One word. Burgers. They are the best in town! Pretty good drink selection as well. The redneck cheeseburger is a MUST. If you're expecting fine dinning go elsewhere! This is the definition of a hole in the wall!

We hoped, hoped that Nu-Way would be good...heard good things, read a bit about it, and brother it didn't disappoint at all. My wife and I split a redneck cheeseburger and each had a hot dog all the way. Add to this some hand-cut fries and there you go. Good bar food. Many years ago I lived in Memphis Tennessee and frequented a place very similar to this. I loved it. It became my third home (my apartment was first and the English departme.nt was 2nd). Anyway, the food here at nu-way reminds me of that wonderful place, that RP Tracks. The atmosphere does too, by the way. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Maybe the carpet isn't a good thing...maybe there's a bit of residual smell going back 40, 50, 70 years, but really, who cares. Burgers, beer and good people.

Had the redneck burger all the way. This is hands down the worst burger joint in sptbg. we have some really good burger joints but this place is a disgrace to the name & fame we have for good burgers is sptbg. The only way anyone could rate this anything positive is if they are drunk off their -ss. Stopped and got a taco bell burrito to get the horrible horrible taste out of my mouth.

We absolutely this place. Yes, it's a dive bar and the atmosphere shows it, but that is what makes it so great. The food is awesome, the beer is cold, and the staff is friendly. If you are looking for a local hotspot in Spartanburg, the Nu-Way is where you should go.

A great place to hang out to listen to live music with the locals. This is an old place, not fancy at all, but we enjoy the low key atmosphere and prices are reasonable and food is good. We have seen several really great bands here, and often split a redneck cheeseburger (all the way!) and a side of fried green beans. I'd give five stars if I wasn't afraid of misleading those who are expecting a "classy" place... (yes there is dirty carpet on the floor, doesn't bother me). Do not understand all the great reviews...food is not nearly as good as it was before present owner took over. Mediocre service at best...owner very rude. Used to be one of my favorite places when I came to town but not anymore! Also watch your tab and change because barmaids will try to rip you off!! Hate that a great Sparkle City icon has become such a disappointment.

Dive Bar with friendly staff. We started out on Main Street and this bar was a little hard to find. It's a place full of characters. We really enjoyed the trivia and ended up winning $20 off of our bar tab! Which by the way was already very low. The drinks in this town are so cheap. Our total was under $20 for the whole table. Beware of the women's bathroom and the floor everywhere is CARPET. Carpet in a bar. It's trapped a lot of interesting smells over the years.

I've been to some pretty, um, *interesting* places in Spartanburg, but I've actually always enjoyed the Nu Way. Crowd is pretty eclectic, trivia was fun, and they're great about supporting local bands - you can find some real gems here, even on their open mic nights. Okay, the, err, "atmosphere" leaves a lot to be desired...and the women's bathroom - which has curtains on the stalls instead of actual doors - is questionable at best. But the bartenders are always friendly, they have some decent beers both on tap and in bottles (ESPECIALLY for such a dive-y looking and feeling place), and prices are pretty good too. I've only had food here once, and it was just french fries - but I'm not even a french fry person and these fries were actually delicious. If you can handle the dingyness, I say give it a try for a fairly inexpensive night out for trivia or live music.

Classic dive bar. Pretty good prices for beer and decent bar food. Trivia on some nights. The staff was nice and helpful. I wouldn't go here for a fancy date, but to cure your 5pm after-work blues, this is the perfect place!

It smells of stale beer. You have to wonder if you took a dump on the floor, would anyone notice. All that said, I do enjoy this dump! I've been in and out of this sh**hole since 1984. The food is always decent, at a fair price. The service is casual. The crowd....eclectic.

The Nu-Way has been around way longer than I can recall and I've visited it many times. Nothing fancy but overall a great place to eat or just unwind. The redneck cheeseburger is out of this world good !! Staff are very friendly !!

This place is a Spartanburg staple. It has been around for as long as I can remember and has not changed one bit. Great place to hang out with friends or meet new ones. Can get very crowded at times but that is part of the appeal. People of all types frequent this bar. Meet my wife here. When I have eaten here the food has been very enjoyable. It does not pretend to be anything that it is not. It is just a bar and short order grill with a very personal feel.
