Overpriced for what you get. Not a fan

Excellent atmosphere and food for a quiet date night. The salted caramel cheesecake was exceptional. The wine menu is also extensive.

Invited friends to join us at II Samuels . Warm lettuce in the apple salad with almost no goat cheese. The tomato soup was flavorful but greasy from the sausage in it and the veal piccata was poorly seasoned and tasted like the grease in the fryer was old...sooooo disappointed and our waitress seemed like she was doing us a favor by serving us. We were embarrassed that we had suggested the restaurant. We won't be back.

Food is delicious. Like the choice of portion size on many of the dishes. Upscale atmosphere. Hidden gem in Spartanburg. Even had live music.

Took my staff there for a nice dinner. Employees seemed annoyed we were there. Food was OK but not worth the price. Very underwhelmed by service and food.

We tried Samuels for the first time last nite And it was really nice experience : the food atmosphere and music all blended into a Fine dining experience I certainly would go again The next time we are here we will try it again

II Samuels was recommended to us and we are so glad we tried it out. The cheese biscuits that came before the meal were delicious and we both enjoyed our entrees--a fried eggplant dish and a seafood farfalle dish. Fantastic food and pleasant ambience. Sometime we'd like to try the outside seating.

Ordinarily this restaurant is stellar. Unfortunately not tonight. Do not go there on Monday night! Everything was off-from the pitiful scallop appetizer to the missing ingredients on certain dishes. And our server could not have been more green and yet seemed more interested in getting us out of there. She brought the check and never even cleared our plates before we left. She would walk away from our table in mid sentence to go to another table or enter an order. It was totally bizarre!! We will have a hard time going back which is sad since we had previously had such great experiences. Be warned!

Had the catch of the day, Salmon, on a salad for lunch today with the house vinaigrette dressing. Maybe best salad ever! Small amount of goat cheese and pesto on salmon. Around the edges of plate were small amounts of chopped olives, small strips of beets, pickled red onions, guacamole, cucumber/tomato mixture, and both sweet and dill pickles. A nice hard cheese was shredded on the bed of lettuce. I wish I could eat this every day!

Really enjoyed the food and wine at this restaurant. Was awesome to sit in the wine storage room looking out on the restaurant. Lamb was exceptional.

Yelpers - again you don't disappoint me! II Samuels is wonderful. I got grouper with angel hair patty cake. It would be better if it comes with green, so I feel better with both lightly fried grouper and lightly fried cake, but oh how it's worth it... It was definitely delicious and pleasing to the eye before eating it. I'm big on service and the waiter was wonderful and my water glass is always full. Yes I would venture back if I ever passing Spartanburg again.

I have been eating in and around Spartanburg since September of 1984. If this is not the best dining experience I have ever had in Spartanburg, it is one of the top two or three. The dinner menu is compact, eclectic, and well executed. A similar comment might be offered for the wine list. While it is not expansive, it was very well thought out. Every item on the dinner menu comes listed with a paired wine. Nice touch! The waitstaff is friendly and well heeled. The gal behind the bar is a Spartanburg icon! I took the time to look over the lunch menu while I was there. I can't wait to go back and have lunch! For that matter....I can't wait to go back and have dinner!!

The ambience was nice and my main course good.I did not care for the bread and my salad was not fresh.

For the price, the food was a disappointment. Seems like they are trying for upscale, but the food fell short in both quality and quantity. We had lunch. Not sure about dinner. We tried the soup of the day. It was ok. I ordered the heirloom tomato and mozzerella sandwich. They were not heirloom tomatoes. Husband ordered turkey club. Very dry and boring.

Thoroughly unimpressed. My pork chop was tough, my hubby's crab cakes were very fishy and had a lot of filler. I blame the chicken liver app for the eventual tossing of my cookies later in the evening. Despite having plenty of wait staff and dining early in an empty restaurant, service was slow.

I have eaten here many times with clients. Their soups are amazing, the best in Sparkle City! I could drink their broccoli soup. It is pureed to perfection. I'm not sure I have ever had that texture in a broccoli soup before. It is great! Their corn chowder is equally enchanting. I would give them 4 stars; however, I am mad at them to taking their best item off their menu. BRING BACK THE SAMMIE!!! IF you do that, I'll bup you up to 4 stars.

This is the best place I've eaten at in Spartanburg. I was in town visiting my family for the holidays. Usually, I refuse to eat out because I have no desire to go to another boring chain restaurant that just fries everything. My mother really wanted to have a nice meal without driving to Greenville, so I did some research on Yelp and made a reservation at II Samuels. I was a bit hesitant because the name is pretty cheesy and it's in a shopping plaza. The menu and wine list are very good though, so we decided to give it a chance. I had the Poached Pear Salad with mixed greens, roasted pecans, blue cheese and a gorgonzola vinaigrette. This was very good but it had a tad too much dressing. I also had the tuna sampler that comes seared, blackened and a tar tar. The tar tar was not very good and the blackened tuna was okay, however the seared tuna was very, very good. I also tried one of my brother's bacon wrapped scallops - these were huge and very delicious. For my entree, I had the Lamb Chops with goat cheese, a yogurt grit cake and a vegetable. These were okay. The lamb chops needed to be better seasoned, but they were cooked a proper medium rare. It was nothing spectacular, but it was definitely good for Spartanburg. I ordered the full order for $32, which I did not think had nearly enough chops for $32. It's funny how certain thing are more expensive in the country, because this dish would not be more than $26 in NYC. My fiance had the veal piccata which was just average. I'm giving 4 stars because it's the best meal I've had in Spartanburg and the service was very good. However, there's no way this place would survive in NYC or SF.

We were back in town for the holidays so, based upon our previous visit, we decided to go to II Samuels for New Year's Eve. We were not disappointed. Although the New Year's Eve menu was a prix fixe menu with optional wine pairings, one had the choice of 4 different "meals." The food and the pairings were excellent. Service, once again, was impeccable. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Not our favorite place. Twinkles is great. Food ok but did not get our sides as ordered and will not be going back

You almost have to wonder whether an upscale dining restaurant in Spartanburg can be relevant and give their guests a great experience. With all the fast food and chain restaurants, though, II Samuel's is a welcome relief from the mundane fried food available at almost any other restaurant. I hate using the word ambience to describe the look and feel of a restaurant, but the place has plenty of it on tap. Plus, the seats are the first comfortable ones my 6'3" frame could tolerate for more than fifteen minutes. The service was excellent, and the bartender even came from behind her great wall of alcohol to offer a recommendation on wine. The wine list is extensive, but not daunting. The beer list is surprisingly long, and offers several names which I have not heard. While other Yelpers have complained that the portions were small and the food was not prepared well, all four people at our table came away very satisfied. Yes, it's pricey and they don't serve it by the pound, but the meal is filling without making you feel like you're going to explode. The salads were good and the desserts were delicious. Basically, if you're looking to stay in Spartanburg and not spend your days wasting away on burgers and fries, give II Samuel's a chance. It was definitely worth every penny, and I'll be going back as soon as I can.

Very ambient dining experience, and the wine selection was very impressive. I enjoyed the lobster bisque and the seafood pasta - huge chunks of succulent crab and lobster with shrimp and scallops. The waiter was really efficient and friendly. But what made the evening (Friday) was the classical guitarist there - he played everything from my favorite hymns to Broadway and even classical. Highly recommend to go (esp. Friday's!)

This is by far the best restaurant in Spartanburg! The atmosphere is relaxing and the food is amazing. Every meal has been absolutely wonderful and I think we've tried just about everything on the menu. (lamb, crab cakes, shrimp etouffee, sirloin, filet, pork, veal, etc.) If you're ever in the Spartanburg area, this is a must try!
