Missed the first turn and ended up traveling a gravel, but scenic, back route! Friendly staff, but not effusive. Fried chicken was really home made quality. Collards well seasoned, good gravy and rice, tasty coconut cream pie but I detected the chemical after taste of an ingredient that was perhaps artificial--maybe a Coolwhip sort of product. Definitely worth stop if you're in the area!

we stopped here for brunch one sunday during a road trip. Just off the highway, its set back off the main road (don't rely on gps - it gets confused) in a little cove with trees. The back porch overlooks a little pond and there's a small nature trail if you care for short walk. I brought my dog, and they let us in a side door to the porch. they even brought a little bowl of water out without my haivng to ask. Brunch is strictly buffet ($12 each, including drinks!), and more lunch than breakfast at that. Real southern staples done right - amazing fried chicken, okra and tomatoes, smokey collards, etc. There was a guy doing made-to order omlettes and a round table piled with the BEST pies. my mum developed a crush on the coconut cream and I had to be dragged away from the apple crumble Next time I end up passing Jasper, this will be a must-stop

We wanted a place for lunch close to I 95 and this was the closest. Only 3 stars but some of the reviews are great. And it was lovely m we sat at a table overlooking the lake. The server was perfect, attentive and efficient, appearing at just the right times. I had the fried green tomatoes and they were exactly what they should be: hot crispy and tender. The Ruben was fine and the fries hot and crisp. My companion was pleased with the buffet which was loaded with southern specialties: fried chicken, okra, biscuits, cornbread, greens. Total yum. I definitely recommend Jaspers!

I've given this place 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th chances, and it is consistently mediocre. We've gone for Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner. I've gone and it's been a buffet of cold mediocre southern favorites. I've gone and ordered off a menu and it was the same. Right of the interstate with a decent ambiance, but they just never seem to deliver. Wish I could say something better.

Really great atmosphere on a lake gives you a bayou feel with titles and baby alligators in the water that you can feed. The staff was warm and friendly and the food was reasonable and delicious. The onion rings and fried chicken were done to perfection and the best mashed potatoes and gravy yum!!! The kids meals were very inexpensive and really great. Try it if you are here you won't be disappointed.

Love the atmosphere feeding the turtles alligator. But they staff was bad no one you the soup of the day or the price I ask five people we ordered drinks and onion rings after 30 minutes I went to check five people were sitting upfront talking I need rings for finally delivered cold! I told one of the waitresses that we did not want them cold She snatched them and said there would be no bill never offering to replace them We offered to pay two times the only nice lady was a trainee who was very informative about the history of the Area they were looking for a dishwasher and that was the problem with the server she stated anyway we won't go back!!

Love this place! We had the lunch buffet for $8.99 which included dessert. Food was great and very reasonable. Then, we fed the 4 foot alligator and fish and turtles behind the restaurant (bring some quarters). Conveniently located behind the gas station and Burger King.

Great concept but oh my. They specialize in disorganization. It's right off the highway a beautiful setting on a little pond with fountain. Nice screened in porch. That's pretty much where it ends. It took forever to be seated & to have a waitress come over to our table & to take our order & to get our food. There was a lot of bravado but seriously what were they doing in the kitchen. The wait staff would disappear for ever. From the host to all but one waitress there was constantly heard "just a minute". Training!!!???? Out of ribs. Ordered spicy peel and eat . Rather boring. Crab chowder was very good. They need to get their act together or they will be just a bad memory in this little SC town.

Nice little restaurant and bar. We were traveling through and stopped at a motel and asked about local eateries. This was close and had good reviews. Food was good as well as service. Ribs are great and the BBQ was definitely uniquely good.

Ok, so this is the updated review. Jasper's Porch is under new ownership, and while it is not perfect, it is a lot better than it used to be. The owner is working to get the restaurant heading in the right direction. The food is better than it used to be. I'd eat here again, which is far better than my last review.

While traveling, it's always fun to check out local restaurants. Checked this one out...food was okay at best, service was great. Maybe I'll look into something else locally owned.

I admit I was skeptical when we walked in, but food and little quirks really made up for it. My kids love feeding the turtles on the covered porch, and the food was great. I got fried shrimp. The mashed potatoes are homemade and delicious along with the mixed summer vegetables. We enjoyed the view and felt relaxed the whole time. Hidden food novelty, while lacking in ambience.

My guess is that this is THE local spot. I was greeted by a cat sunning itself on the front porch. Nice touch. Set the tone Quaint building with old wood floors and al fresco dining on the porch with a waterside view. Country setting. Limited breakfast menu with just the basics. Looks like their main thing is buffet style service. I ordered the Southern Style Breakfast, which comes with two eggs, two pieces of bacon or two sausage links, two pancakes, a biscuit and sausage gravy and grits all for $7.99! To my delight, it wasn't bad. The bacon was a little crisp for my taste, but the sausage gravy and biscuit was good (though not quite warm enough), the grits were the right consistency, and someone makes pancakes exactly how I like them... in a hot, cast-iron skillet so the edges are crispy! I ate about half of it, there was so much food! The service (once they saw me waiting) was quick and I was in and out and back on the road in no time flat. Wish they had a gift shop. They have enough space for one, but all they sell are Jasper's Porch mugs.

Horrible service, so rude! You pretty much take your life in your hands if you dare to ask for a refill! The place smells as greasy as the food is. Tried to split our check...forget it!

Stopped in on the way back from FL. We had the buffet which was great some of the best fired chicken and mac & cheese.

Great location - nice to sit outside at night on the patio and see the Christmas lights. Crab soup - great - beer cold. The rest was not so good. I was told by a local - go for the soup only - I should have listened. This is your warning. The Waitress - was the worst.

We were staying at a nearby motel and stopped in for dinner. The restaurant seemed dirty and the food was fair at best. I would not eat there again. The only thing I could say good is that the bar prices were reasonable.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! I wish there was a way to give a restaurant NO STARS. Let's start by saying that the service in this restaurant is abysmal. The waitress took our order reasonably quickly and brought out drinks and even got our appetizer reasonably quickly but that was the end of even a modicum of service. In our area of the restaurant were 3 tables. One was a group of 6 another group of 4 and my wife and I - not what I would call "busy". The bus boy (who was very personable and the highlight of the meal) tried to help all 3 tables to find out where our food was... He was not too successful. When our food came out, my vegetables and potatoes were COLD. The shrimp I ordered were actually good (hot and tasty) but water logged from the veggies (everyone knows you put the watery veggies in a separate bowl). My wife and I ordered drink refills but they never came and when we questioned the waitress she had no recollection that we ordered drink refills. I complained about my cold food and the response was a mere $3 off the bill, seriously? When we left, I tried to find a manager to complain but no one was around. Thanks Jaspers Porch for ruining our meal and our last night in South Carolina.

My husband and I have been coming here for years as we go between New England and winters in Florida. The location is unique with a large pond with lighted walkway all around the pond. Because we travel with our dogs, we love being able to give them a good walk in a safe place after a long day of travel. Jasper's Porch sits right on the pond and the ambiance is nice, especially at Christmas with an amazing animated lighted display all around the pond and grounds. For a few years, the restaurant and motel have been going downhill, but a new owner took over the restaurant in August and has made some excellent changes. We had the fried shrimp tonight, and it was the best we have had anywhere in a long time. It was very light, very fresh and peeled just before it was prepared with a high end quality of oil that is nothing like the greasy oil that had become prevalent. The coating was very light and tasty as well, so that it did not compete with the fresh shrimp, The service was excellent and our server and Rick, the new owner, both were genuinely interested in providing a quality dining experience.

Not a bad place to eat - super friendly employees - great service - buffet was fresh and hot. All you can eat for $13.99 - not a bad deal. Soup, salad, 2 proteins and 8 veggies. Nice view of the lake with ducks, fish and a gator! We found this local spot while driving home from FL.

Yum. Really good. The fried pickles are awesome. The Cajun grilled shrimp was fantastic.

Hidden behind so a bit hard to find but very close to I-95 exit. GPS coordinates are 32 28' 47" N, 80 58' 21". Service was gracious. For me, the buffet highlights were the fried chicken, my favorite okra-tomatoes and fresh salad mini-bar. They didn't have the well-reviewed she-crab soup, today. Parking lot had room for our motorhome and tow but they don't allow "truck parking". Ate on the screened-in porch with its delightful view. The non-buffet lunch menu is very limited with not much Southern on it. So glad we ate there despite the bad reviews!

Stopped here on a Sunday night while driving through. Buffet was the only thing available. It was ok at best. Not a large variety and all veggies were over cooked. Food looked like it had been sitting awhile. Chicken had no flavor, lots of fat in everything. Would not recommend this place.

  • Latricia G.

I am normally not one to complain, but our waitress was super rude, food was cold, and I could buy the same fried chicken at the deli section in Walmart. The best part about this place was the ducks sleeping in the parking lot.

We were driving back home from Florida and saw sign on I-95 and took a chance.. I have to say I impressed my wife.. This is a local secret the ambience is gr8 and the lake side views awesome.. They had the buffet but we decided to go for the menu We ordered Fishes and chips.. Really crispy and fresh. My 7 year old decided to switch with her kids meal (chicken fingers).. The chicken fingers were nicely battered with a really good mix of black peppers...not had a juicy deep fried chicken in a long time.. Folks were so nice... made us feel home Close to heart southern food.. You would love

This is one of the most comfortable places in Ridgeland to have some great southern comfort food I highly recommend to stop here if you're traveling through South Carolina and make sure you check out the koi pond...It's cool..

  • Mike S. ..

Omg, where to start? Nice location, after you have your horrible, incorrect order, wait forever for everything, and finally get your bill. You get to walk around a little pond and descalate. I started at the bar, made it clear that i would have a drink and move to the dining area. Thats when the downward spiral began. 10 minutes with an empty glass, the manager even wondering where she is, the bartender finally shows up smiling and says she was talking to dave. Like that makes it alright that shes been gone for so long. My food order was totally screwed up. I wanted wings but they were out of blue cheese. Go buy some! I wanted a baked potatoe. They were all out of sour cream. Go buy some! It was early in the evening, it wasnt busy but somehow they managed to create one very awful dining experience.

Good low-country cooking, southern fried goodness through out, great road food find. Restaurant filled with locals as well as travelers. Buffet available, but I opted for a nicely-seasoned Southern take on classic fish & chips, along with a cream of crab soup. Both were really nice. Friendly and helpful staff, just off I-95 tucked away behind some hotels right at the exit but over looks a lake behind the restaurant, even a little trail to walk along, great after a long day in the car. Lunches were generally around $8, dinner a bit more, but pretty reasonable.

The couple running this joint apparently didn't know what they were doing. They offered to seat us but told us they couldn't take our order for 25 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. After two other couples made their way over to the pizza place across the street like we did we found out there was a private party that had them all screwed up.

It was a cute place with a nice view of a pond with turtles and aligators! However, the food was very greasy and we waited over 30 min for our breakfast.
