My first time to review on yelp and it's because of this place. Sat down and received our waters. 25 minutes later and no one to take our order. WOW! Never experienced that before. Decided to eat in Charleston - since that was where we were headed. Glad we did!

We found the Seafood Academy as we were returning home from Charleston and saw a billboard with a photo of a mouth watering seafood platter. I wish I could give a higher rating because the service was wonderful (Justin was our server) and the overall appearance and cleanliness were great. However, I ordered the "President's Platter" which includes shrimp and customers choice of 2 of the following: Oysters, Scallops, Deviled Crab or Tilapia. Additionally, you can choose two sides. Okay, here comes my reason for only three stars... All of the fish was fried. I looked at the menu and it does not describe the food prepared this way and it was ultimately my fault for not asking but my assumption came from sitting down at a table with cloth napkins and table clothes so it never even crossed my mind that the seafood would come out looking like something I would expect from Captain D's. Overall the food was good for being fried, I simply like my seafood tasting fresh with less added fat. If I had known the food was fried I would have chosen something else or gone to another seafood restaurant. This could have been five stars if the menu described how the food was prepared so I would have known what to expect.

Having grown up in Tidewater Virginia eating all types of fresh seafood, I'm not easily impressed when it comes to seafood restaurants. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised with Seafood Academy. I ordered the shrimp calabash my husband had the fried tilapia and we shared. Both were seasoned well and not over battered. For sides we ordered ham and cheese mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, cole slaw and hush puppies - all delicious. We live about 2 hours away but when in town again we will definitely go back.

This wonderful restaurant is conveniently located off rte. 26. The food is great and so is the service. The prices are surprisingly reasonable. We saw the billboard on 26 and decided to try it for lunch. We brought the family back the next night for dinner. There is a full children's menu as well. We tried everything from shrimp and lobster to flounder with various sides. All were cooked to perfection even the desserts.

We eat out quite a bit. We are into "quality" not quantity. We found this restaurant to be very friendly from the hostess to server to one of the part owners. The food was very tasty. Lobster, shrimp, rib eye steak, side salad, and of course our drinks. I would recommend this restaurant. Our server was a young man and eager to please. He did a great job.

Wow! Not only was the food great and it was so much that I could only eat half. The service was superb as well.

If you love shrimp that taste like ammonia you will love this place. Server was a seven out of 10 not bad but she knew nothing about the menu . Atmosphere was nice , so basically if your taste buds are gone or you have really bad taste in food this is the place for you PS if you like seafood Alfredo that you can eat with A straw you're in for a treat they need to sell Pepto there.

Pass this one by...salmon was old and smelly. Ordered flounder and got tilapia..over salted..waiter was nice and tried to make things right..nothing he could do about horrible food. One last thing..they were out of lemon!

This was the worst dining experience I ever had we had a party of six and had to walk out. The server came out to tell me that my mashed potatoes were from the day prior and he didn't want to serve them to me so I had to choose something else. I also ordered chicken fingers and fries for my daughter but he served her gator bites and said that it was chicken. The calamari came with no mairnara sauce and when we asked for it it came out cold. Needless to say I did not pay for anything.

This is a nice restaurant option close to most of the hotels... you get a "healthy" amount of food. You even get sides with pasta, wow! The ambiance is nice as well.

We are sitting at the bar right now. This place has no clue how to be a restaurant! Bartender is clueless of menu and not attentive to our drink needs. He is more interested in the TVs than us. The food is one step above fast food fried seafood! I am usually very forgiving but I read reviews before coming here and believed them. No I am sorry I did! Darryl I

We were visiting Orangeburg from Richmond, VA and happened to be staying at a hotel very close to the Seafood Academy. We thought the name was a little odd but after reading the other reviews here we thought to give them a shot. It was pouring rain and most people seemed to just be staying in for the night, so the restaurant was not very busy. In spite of most likely not having much to do, the servers and hosts were extraordinarily friendly. Everyone seemed upbeat, happy and really helpful. Something that, lets face it, does not happen much when a bunch of people are stuck working on a "slow" night. We each chose the "pick 2," for our entrees. For each of the "pick 2 or 3" platters, the first choice is automatically shrimp. My partner chose to have shrimp and scallops and I chose shrimp and oysters. Each platter also comes with two sides, we chose asparagus, hush puppies, and rice pilaf. Our server made sure to ask us how we wanted the seafood prepared. I had the shrimp steamed and the oysters fried, my partner ordered everything fried. The seafood tasted fresh, well seasoned and exactly what you would expect. The shrimp and scallops were a smaller variety but very tasty. The sides were all well-prepared as well. Overall, the place was very satisfying, remarkably clean and staffed by very friendly people. If we ever return to Orangeburg, this place will be on our short list of restaurants to visit again.

Nice and clean atmosphere and service was wonderful. I ordered the Captain's Platter for $23 And got something similar to a $8.99 dinner at captain Ds. When you order A entre For 23 bucks you expect a little wow factor.

Called on Mon, 9/8/14 and asked if they had the all you can eat shrimp special that night. We were told yes so we drove the 20 miles to get to the restaurant. Got there and was told tho they had that special on Monday's, they didn't have it that night, so we left. Later heard it advertising the shrimp special on Wednesday nights. Good luck.
