Overall good. Sushi and sashimi were fresh. Service slow at first but picked up pace with friendly attentiveness. Would return.

We visited this place with another couple after seeing the positive reviews. The food was okay, but the service was a bizarre experience. Our server was pretty quick, but was very snappy and attitudinal. When my friend asked a question about her options for a roll, he pointed to the menu in front of her face instead of answering. We were all speechless, thinking "did that really happen?" He did not bring glasses for our beers. The boy busing tables was very quiet and seemed uncomfortable, probably the son of someone who worked there. That alone would not have bothered me, but it added to the overall strange experience. Several of the rolls featured "tuna scrape" instead of pieces of fish, which I had never seen before. It has a very unappetizing texture. The music featured upbeat Asian pop songs with lots of shimmery "sparkle" sounds which doesn't do the ambience any favors. The server kept our friends' cash instead of giving them the option to choose their tip. This might have been fine if the service hadn't been so unsatisfactory. Side note: The address stored in Google maps if you just type in "FUGU" is incorrect - it will take you across town to a stretch of sidewalk. Type in the address manually if you decide to visit.

Food was delish!! Sushi was good. Shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly. Fried rice was awesome. Visiting myrtle beach from Virginia.

Had high hopes, but were yet disappointed greatly. I'm not a big review writer, but I feel obliged to warn the rest of the sushi loving public. First of all, the waiter insisted that all fish must be frozen...first clue, not true. So, that was our cue to stick to the rolls only. Two of the three were ok, but the third one, the Godzilla Roll, didn't pass the eye test. It was supposed to have both salmon and tuna on the inside, but was mostly rice, you could barely see the fish (see pic). I would have gone for a remake, but no, waiter argued that it was right, made correctly, and if you peel back the seaweed wrap, you would "find" the fish. It was basically a deep fried rice roll with spicy sauce. Not a true sushi restaurant, stick to the hibachi, I guess.

Not a great place, but it is probably cheaper than many of your other lunch options in the area. SO (Japanese) ordered the combination box with beef negimaki and shumai. I had the same but with beef teriyaki. We also ordered a couple of pieces of salmon nigiri. I went with that over the chicken katsu because I wanted some soup and salad. That was a mistake. The miso soup was extremely watery, even for my SO who prefers her miso soup on the lighter side. The salads (she had ranch dressing, I had ginger) were absolutely drowned in dressing. She wasn't happy with her dressing, though I thought the ginger was okay except for the fact that there was way too much. The nigiri came and brought greater disappointment. It was, without exaggeration, more rubbery and flavorless than many pieces of sushi I've had in cheap buffets. Avoid the sushi here at all costs: not only was it one of the worst pieces of nigiri I've had, it was also more expensive than your average piece of sake nigiri. The combo box came out after that. It came with California rolls which tasted about the same as any other California roll that comes with a lunch bento in hibachi places. At this point I was just happy to find something tasting the way I expected it to. The shumai were textureless, overcooked lumps with a hint of filling. They honestly tasted worse than properly made shumai you'd find in the frozen section of a grocery store. The entrees were a surprise. They were pretty good! The negimaki was tasty and the cheese in it that I was at first wary about didn't seem to overpower the dish. My beef was tender (ordered it medium and it came out medium, small miracles) and the teriyaki glaze was sweet and savory. My SO also enjoyed both dishes. In the end, I have to credit them for delivering on the entrees. The problem was that nearly everything else we were served was bad, especially the sushi. That seems like a big problem when you market yourself as a Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar. It could be that both of our pieces were flukes; that they were not representative of their normal sushi. But at these prices, why roll the dice? If you're going to eat here, avoid anything that comes with the added value of side dishes/appetizers. Just get an entree that looks good and it'll probably be good for the price. Note that there's a promotion here: you can print out a coupon and bring it in for like 3-5 dollars off. A sign in the entrance tells you to like their Facebook and you'll get the coupon, but they won't accept the coupons unless you print them out. This means that unless you check that stuff out before you get here you'll only be able to use the coupon on your second visit. Worth following up on if you enjoy your meal here. We won't be taking advantage of that offer.

Excellent sushi. They also offer traditional Chinese dishes. My daughter ordered the shrimp mei fun and my other daughter ordered the kids shrimp hibachi! Very good food and big portions.

I am doing 2 stars for the food, but would like to give 0 stars for the service. We waited over an hour and half for our food. I do understand there was a large group there before us but there was no communication on when the food might come. The tools themselves were ok. The use a lot of minced fish for the spicy rolls and it takes away from the sushi taste.

Amazing fresh sushi. So many choices and a coupon on Facebook. The sweet potato sushi was fabulous

The service was PAINFULLY slow. To their credit, they had sat two huge tables just before we came in, but my friend and I each ordered a salad to come before our sushi rolls which didn't come out for 45 min to an hour. (And after I got up to ask the host to find our server. Who never actually came to check on us, but send a second person over to ask the concern.) dirty plates were never cleared when sushi finally came. After sushi was dropped, the server never returned to check on us until our plates were entirely clear. (I had to stand up to request a napkin.) bill came quickly, but credit card took forever to come back. Sushi was good, but not worth the wait. You can find better quality w/in a mile from this place.

We went to FUGU for a quick lunch after reading the great reviews on Yelp. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were warmly greeted and were seated immediately. The restaurant is very clean and well organized. The server brought us our drinks quickly and we were ready to order. I do believe that they could benefit from a little shorter menu, but my wife and I saw what we wanted and ordered quickly. The Kani salad is fantastic. I could have just eaten two of those. I'd highly recommend it. My wife ordered the Sushi Dinner which was 10 pieces of chef-selected sushi. It was fresh and presented nicely. I ordered the Scorpion roll, and a yellowtail roll. The yellowtail was fresh and good, but the Scorpion roll was less than what we expected. The soft shell crab was over cooked and a little tough. Overall we had a good experience and would probably visit again. Avoid the Scorpion, dig into the Kani.

In a sea of myrtle beach sushi hibachi buffet joints this traditional sushi bar was a delight. We had tempura and edamame apps followed by a selection of special rolls. The "tuna amazing" was enough to make our eyes light up. The fish was sushi grade as it should be. The service was attentive and unassuming. Prices reasonable especially considering how good the food was. We will return!

So delish!! We are from SoCal & have lots of fab sushi places out there & we are pretty picky because of it. This place had super fresh & super yummy sushi! Order the Fantastic roll, Spicy Girl & the Blizzard in the 'chef special' area of the menu. If you are a sushi lover you will not be disappointed with this place. For spoiled sushi buffs like us this place is A+++

You can't beast the bang for your buck here! Delicious food - nice staff and not pricey. Daily specials and coupons available. We are from out of town, but will buzz by again on this trip. Loved it!

EXCELLENT SUSHI! My wife and I were hesitant because of the exterior and lack of crowd at restaurant but we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality, value and taste of the sushi at this restaurant. The "Tuna Fantastic" roll with peppered ahi tuna was one of the best rolls we have ever had--and we've eaten a lot of sushi across the mainland as well as in Hawaii. The Staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. Be sure to check this place out if you're in Myrtle Beach, looking for good Japanese food and sushi.

Good meals for good price. I came here for dinner and ordered Nabeyaki Udon. It came with salad with ginger dressing. The dish was huge with full of vegetables and chicken. It even came with 2 shrimp tempura. I couldn't eat it all xD

I found a Restaurant.com certificate for this place, and we're in town for vacation, so we decided to give it a try. We were the only customers in the place, and the service was excellent. The sushi itself was delicious - fresh and well made (and we're sushi snobs). We got the gyoza for the kids and my husband and I each got the 3-roll Maki special. I got Spicy Crabmeat, Shrimp Tempura and a California Roll for the kids, and my husband got Spicy Salmon, Spicy Tuna and a California Roll. The Maki lunch special comes with miso soup and salad. All were yummy. We got tempura fried cheesecake for dessert, which came with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup - very decadent. The food and the service make this the best sushi I've had in Myrtle Beach.

Yummy! The sushi rolls are so good. We had the Fantastic roll, my favorite, Godzilla roll, Spicy girl, the Blizzard roll, Octopus with lemon, Salmon Lovers & Tuna Amazing roll, & we were all very happy when we left. It was all great. The service was good, but the rolls did take a while, but so worth the wait. I will be back!

Hidden treasure in a shopping center. I had some superior sushi here this week. The service was just okay but the food was the main attraction here. It was not crowded at 7 PM on a Thurs. Flip to the back of the menu for the house specialty sushi rolls and go crazy. I saw combinations that I have never seen before and they were all probably as good as the rolls I tried. They also have cooked dishes as well if all of your party isn't into sushi. It is a casual atmosphere that would be good for any size group or age range.

The best sushi I've had in the area. Excellent noodles. The Japanese did here is authentic and really fresh. The sushi is fresh and far better than any other sushi ice had in this area.

I've been hesitant about trying the sushi in the area since most of them are either over priced, have poor reviews, or hardly any reviews at all. Plus, I'll admit, I'm a sushi snob since I'm from NYC where the sushi is AMAZING. After craving sushi for weeks, I gave in and came into FUGU. Deciding factors on FUGU were proximity to me and their Happy Hour 4-8 advertising. It was around 5pm and the place was pretty empty except for about 2 other tables. We sat at the sushi bar. Happy Hour pricing was fairly good. About $5 for a regular roll and around $9 for a special roll. We ordered a Kani salad, Spicy Tuna roll, Dragon roll, Spider roll and Advocado roll (maybe the boyfriend meant to order an avocado eel roll?) Kani salad was great. Lots of masago, which I love, and crab meat too. It was a little heavy on the spicy mayo for my liking but the amount of masago made it OK in my book. The rolls were tasty, fresh and not overloaded with rice like some other establishments might do to make up for a lack of the good stuff on the inside. Some of the rice could have been a little softer. I always order the Spider roll when I have sushi and I was disappointed with this one. Instead of crispy fried soft crab, it was more like soggy soft crab. First time I didn't finish the spider roll. Spicy tuna and dragon roll were delicious though. The boyfriends' brother ordered the chicken katsu. I would not recommend getting the chicken katsu here. It was a fairly small portion for an entree meal and the meat was extremely dry. You'd have to soak a piece in the pungent sauce (not actually pungent) to take away from how dry the chicken was but then you lose the crispiness of the panko breading. Overall, you can't go wrong with doing Happy Hour here. Decent sushi at affordable prices. I probably wouldn't come in to eat without the Happy Hour special though.

My husband and kids LOVED the sushi rolls. Very highly recommended! The Valentine's roll, Godzilla roll, and Tuna amazing rolls were the favorites. Not being a sushi person myself, I chose the hibachi chicken. It was very good! Lots of food and very good service. We will most definitely be back in the near future. On a side note, to use the Facebook coupon you have to have a printed copy. I don't know about any other social websites but it doesn't seem very smart to me to only accept printed coupons when most people on vacation do not bring printers! Smh....

My wife and I went for lunch. The place was empty and the service was slow and distracted. Quality of food was average at best, but prices were a little higher than we're used to at home. Spider roll was OK and not very large. Salad and soup were plain but competent. My wife's tempura dish was fairly small and plain. She had a bento box with a few other items that she was also mostly disappointed with. My teriyaki beef was tough but tasted OK, and the portion size was appropriate for a lunch. I can't imagine that we would go back, given the other choices in the area.

Great lunch specials and the servers are friendly and attentive. Very clean environment and you get a ton of food! My rolls were flavorful and I could hardly finish my food. My husband and I loved it.

The Sushi was phenomenal. My children also received a very generous size plate from the children's menu. The service was spectacular. If you are in the Myrtle Beach area you need to pay them a visit.

New owners! GREAT food! Nice, quiet atmosphere! Tons of food with your dinner! I had the hibachi chicken and it came with two huge shrimp and loads of veggie and rice! Service was outstanding! Highly recommend! Reasonably priced too! Yummy!

Pretty good! We have been here twice this week already. They have really well priced lunch specials (the pictures on Yelp are what's on the menu but in store they lowered the prices on the menu). They have a $5.99 hibachi or teriyaki lunch special that we saw on a poster hanging outside the restaurant that my boyfriend and I thought were kind of sketchy but when we got our food we were amazed. The hibachi came with a udon type of soup and the teriyaki came with miso soup and salad. The portions are a very decent size for only being $5.99. The hibachi doesn't come with salad but when the meal comes it has the hibachi vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, onions, and mushrooms). Another time we got the shrimp tempura lunch special (it came with miso soup, salad and rice) and it had three shrimp and a couple of vegetables (sweet potato, onion, broccoli, and potato). Pretty decent sized lunch, especially with the bowl of rice, for only being $8.95. We also got shrimp tempura maki and it was $6.95, which was really expensive for only six pieces and the roll wasn't even anything special. The service is okay- the waiter was kind of slow and kind of oblivious. Our waiter didn't really explain anything to us but we overlooked it because the food was pretty good. There's kind of a weird smell when you walk into the restaurant too. Overall, it was pretty good for us to have come back twice this week while we were in Myrtle!

I'd give this restaurant an average rating. I dined here for lunch. Found the restaurant to be clean and the hostess/waitress friendly. My biggest complaint is that the rolls were served at room temperature. I generally prefer to dine in for sushi, with the expectation that you get a fresher tasting roll. They do offer hibachi, which is a draw for a mixed group. $29 for two rolls and a diet Coke. I probably would try somewhere else next time.

We have been coming to Myrtle Beach for over 25 years. We found a menu at one of the putt putt course is we are playing with our granddaughter. The prices look very reasonable and it was right beside where we were playing so we decided to try it. We were impressed on every level. The prices were very fair even a beer is only three dollars. I paid seven dollars for a beer at a local restaurant just two nights ago. We went there specifically for sushi and we were not disappointed. They have several very unique rolls that I have never seen anywhere else. The one I had was wrapped in cucumber with no rice it was divine. All the food was very fresh extremely clean and well proportioned. We were there on a Saturday night at 8 o'clock and the place was deserted I have no idea why. It should have been packed to the brim because of the food the service and the prices. We will be back here every time we come to Myrtle Beach guaranteed. Everything about the restaurant exuded cleanliness and attention to detail. The restrooms were impeccable and my wife is a very tough critic and she agrees.

My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner on the night we spent in Myrtle Beach for a mini-vacation in December. When we first arrived, we noticed it's a small place and we were also the only customers of the night. We sat at the sushi bar where we had a nice time talking to the chef and our waiter. We sampled a lot of different sushi and sashimi to start, which was all very fresh. The chef suggested the Transformer rolls to share. We must have been real sight because we were nearly fighting over the rolls, they were very good! The staff is very friendly and make great suggestions if you're like me and can't decide between orders. Good customer service. I would love to go back soon!

this is one of the worst restaurants i've ever been to - don't know if it was the horrible waiter (waited 30 minutes just to order and 45 to get food, not to mention he was the ONLY waiter working) or the incredibly overpriced meals with tiny portions, but i would not go back to this place. ever.
