3 stars only because Breck's is located in the sticks (Northern Charleston). As a city boy...I didn't mind Breck's. My class had our class dinner here and the restaurant was able to accommodate all of us in one room (25 people) and separated the checks for us as well. When you're from the big city...you need to have an open mind. You can't go to a place like Breck's and compare it to Ruth's Chris and think you're going to get some prime steaks. I loved the prices. I had a 9 oz rib eye, fried oysters, 6 pieces of wings and a sweet tea for $20! Score! The rib eye was okay. The highlight was Joni our waitress! She was the sweetest thing! Very patient with our big group, very sweet and took care of us. All 25 orders were all correct. Would I go to Breck's again as a tourist? Probably not. But if i was a local...i'd visit Breck's all the time! Credit cards okay.

What a great place. They have the best blue cheese dressing I've ever eaten. I got a Breck's burger and it must have had two pounds of meat on it! Seriously! This is a foodies best dive spot! You certainly won't go home hungry!

Ok. Out of the way location, right off busy Rivers Road. It was busy when we got there for an early dinner at 5 and the staff, friendly, but running around. It's seat yourself and then pay at register where they keep the bills (we had to ask, it wasn't clear and the waitresses were not around much). I had burger, fine; Kristen had the fish/chips which she liked. There isn't that really draws you there (besides supporting local businesses which is important) and we probably won't go back but it's fine, nothing bad about it.

I hadn't been there in 20 years so we were in town and gave it a try. I had the 9oz ribeye, baked potato, and green beans. $8.75 was the damage. Where in the world could you get a value like that. The steak was cooked good too. If you want a fancy candle lit romantic place this ain't it. This place just has good food at a more than good price. The waitress was also nice. Can't wait to go back.

This is a great steak place. The atmosphere is a little older and not high end, but the food is what really shines here. My personal favorite so far is the crab dip which is fresh hunks of local crab with Old Bay and the steak filet. Delicious.

Food was less than par, disappointing from the other reviews I've read here. I had the prime rib, and my wife had a sirloin. Au jus for the prime rib was basically canned onion soup! Very strong. The sirloin was seasoned more like a London broil, and you couldn't hardly chew a medium steak! The salads were good, and the blue cheese is VERY chunky. Service was so so...

How has someone not reviewed THE BEST Steakhouse in Charleston? Well, they don't have the fancy decor, super high prices, well known chefs, expensive drinks, and nice dress, but they have some of the best steaks around. Especially for the price. It's almost unreal the quality and consistency of the food here. Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are some nicer steakhouses around, but NO BODY can match the value of this place. I usually get the 14oz Hamburger Steak, salad(all their dressings are homemade), baked potato, two sides, and a drink for only $7.95. YES, $7.95! If you want a steak dinner, they range from $9 to $14 at the most. They also have the steak dinner for two, which consists of a 52oz steak, two baked potatos, two sides, two salads, and two drinks for $21. They also have chicken, catfish, shrimp, pasta, sandwiches, pork chops, and other stuff as well. The decor is very bland, think of a very blue collar steakhouse, with the main section being smoking, very laid back waitstaff, and 99 cent drafts in the bar portion. My thing though, is that I don't go here for what's on the wall or how nice a place looks. I go there for the quality of food. The waitstaff always does a great job and keeps up with you the whole time. This place is a must if you're in town, been living here, or tired of paying high prices for an ok steak. BRECK'S ONLY TAKES CASH!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure why you can't give 0 stars to a restaurant on here, or a 'This place should be closed' option. When the waitress doesn't have any recommendations and has to ask someone else what we should order, that's not a good sign. Also, what steak place doesn't smell of amazing meat when you walk in the door? This one. Appetizer, crab dip? Why wouldn't you, you're in North Charleston. Here you shouldn't. Out of the can crab dip. Sadly I've eaten amazing crab dip everywhere else I've been around here. 'The Breckenridge' was recommended, I ordered it medium rare as well hoping that a place with these ridiculously low prices may have a chance at saving a piece of meat. Well, they didn't. A pan fried steak, possibly microwaved? Finding what was supposed to be a steak on my plate, and after about 5 minutes of cutting around the mass amounts of fat, I finally found a piece that was edible, or so I thought. Such a bland flavor, so much fat, but there was also some fat. The mashed potatoes which I think they may have accidentally dropped a real potato in wasn't half bad. The corn, reminded me of home cooked, out of the can corn, glorious indeed. The water was the best thing I ordered. I would write more but I think you can understand what else you'd find here. Please help bring bad food to where it needs to be, not on your list of places to eat.

I've been going here on and off since 1978. Yes I like to eat at burger dives! There steaks are really good as well. You have to try their fried mushroom basket, WOW! really worth the calories! Plus you have to have their homemade blu cheese on your salad. One of my favorites burgers is the cowboy burger, Chedder, BBQ, bacon, and onion for only $7.95! All the prices are good. For you drinkers out there they do have a bar. This place is veteran owned, and they will treat you right.

I went here with a very large group(20 people) for a business party for dinner. Breck's was very accommodating to our large crowd. They had a large closed off room available for our group. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was the smoke. Breck's is, unfortunately, a place that still has indoor smoking sections. It permeates every area of the restaurant which left me thankful for the cool, crisp night air upon leaving. If it weren't for this I'd definitely give Breck's another star. The interior is way outdated, and the place could use a major upgrade. That being said, it does have a nice hole-in-the-wall feel to it. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the price is almost unbeatable. Many of the people I was there with had been there before and raved about the streaks, so my fiance and I both went with mushroom and swiss ribeyes. It was absolutely delicious. Above all, you'll be hard pressed to find a place offering the quality and serving size they offer up for the same low price. I would like to see a broader beer selection seeing as a delicious steak or burger deserves a fine beer. They did have Sam Adams Winter Lager which managed to do the trick. I would definitely return to Breck's. Just not very often due to the smoke. What this place lacks in atmosphere they more than make up for in quality and pricing.

Cheap prices, but it smells like an ash tray & the food sucks. It used to be good, but has gone WAY down. We ate here frequently, but now refuse to go back. There is no flavor & the quality is awful. I hate to say it, but you should never eat here.

A friend and I ate here, fortunately he paid. We both ordered the 20 oz ribeye and it must have come from a utility grade of beef because it certainly was not a choice grade of beef. It was properly cooked medium rare but tough, tough, tough. The baked potato was hot and good. The mac & cheese vegetable was overcooked with crunchy hard elbows macaroni on top. The carrots, well, I squashed a couple between my fingers they were that soft. Salad no longer comes with the meal, too bad because the blue cheese dressing is the best I've ever had. The waitress explained that instead of raising prices ($20.95 for a 20 oz very tough ribeye) the owner took the salad away from the meal. Talking about waitresses, very slow service. Enough said. Used to be a good place to eat, they have lost me as a customer.

Love the food but the atmosphere needs much improvement. Ceilings look ancient and like their about to cave in at any given moment. We sometimes have big parties that seat in the back and their carpet looks like it was installed 50 years ago. Bathrooms need a tending to as well. Bar area looks pretty good. The 4 stars are for the food!
(4)Dave T.
The rating is based on one meal - the best pork chop sandwich I've had in my life (that I didn't make). Juicy, pork flavor on a soft bun. And the waitresses call you things like honey and sweetie. I'm considering moving just for the sandwich.

I came here with some friends two years ago. Yes, it's been awhile, but a value this great has never faded in my mind. We met up with a friend of a friend and he warned us ahead of time that it is in a total strip section. It is near multiple car dealerships, pawn shops, etc. According to our friendly waitress, they cut their meat on-site. I swear I got a filet for a $10 special, but maybe I'm just remembering the price and cut of meat wrong. Maybe it was $10.99. Regardless, it was an excellent steak that came with several sides and a salad. Likes: The steak was awesome, the atmosphere rocks, and it is so local. I love local. Best value I've ever found from a steak place. I couldnt buy a filet from Publix and make dinner at home for that cheap. Dislikes: It is a little out of the way if you're staying near downtown Charleston on vacay. The sides were just okay but who really cares for that price. Take it or leave it: Take it. Good food for a great value.

I'm a city girl, NY born and foreign raised. I've had a real NY steak. I've seen dinner killed in front of me it was so fresh. I can be picky. That may have played a part here. That & this place was extremely hyped. I came to eat her around a year ago during a vacation upon recommendation and liked how comfortable the decor was and the staff. The steak left me disappointed, though my friend seemed a lot happier with his not bovine dinner. I doubt I'll ever be in the area again to let them win me over, but my first impression was lacking.

Brecks is the worst steak restaurant on the planet. I was brought here several times while I lived in N. Charleston. There is no value in terrible meat. Their steaks are terrible. And no couple should ever share a 52 ounce steak-gross. Sorry Josh but pointing people in this direction is just wrong!
(1)R J.
HUGE cuts of inexpensive low quality steaks. Their steaks seem like USDA Select grade, which is the lower quality grade. Massive double cheeseburgers for cheap. Steaks that need their own plates. Sides are not made from scratch. Canned veggies. Smelly, smoky interior. Dingy, run down, casual atmosphere. DO NOT take a date here if you're trying to impress. DO take a group of drunk buddies here if you're trying to impress. They don't accept credit cards.

Steak was good. Sides were pretty bad. Just canned vegetables from a microwave. Service was great

love love love the THICK AS HECK blue cheese dressing! the lunch specials are awesome. a baked potato with everything- fresh bacon not those nasty bacon bits! the lunch steak was a little on the thin side- like a breakfast steak. but it was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I just prefer a thicker steak . I tried the corn chowder that Troy made special because I messaged I would be stopping by. and it WAS SO GOOD! lots of corn flavor, had ham pieces in it and potatoes. the broth was the most amazing thing I've tasted in a long while. I didn't order it because there was no way I could finish the steak special I ordered as it was. this is a GREAT place to go for a inexpensive tasty lunch! I must return soon!

I heard about Breck's restaurant by a local. The food including huge, tender steaks, well seasoned chix, salads you can get with home made blue cheese dressing and juicy burgers was mouth watering plus delicious ice tea! The wait staff very friendly and the owner even came over to see how we were enjoying our meals and see if there was anything we needed. Our son goes to the Citadel and we were looking for a friendly, casual, good priced, local place with top food to frequent & we definitely found it. We look forward to our next visit!

Pork chops all you can eat 12.95 charged 9.95, started off with them two fried, batter did not stick and they were like boiled in oil and tuff. Waited over 20 minutes to be ask and served the third one which I had it grilled. Not much you can do with cheap nasty pork. The blue cheese dressing is awesome along with the honey mustard. Wife had the grilled chicken 12.95? nothing spectacular she liked the fried mushrooms, the pumpkin cheese cake she loved it except for the crust.

This place was the worst meal I've ever had. An aroma of stale smoke hits you in the face when you walk in, very out dated, green carpet? Really, just made me think of how dirty it probably is. I ordered beef tips with mashed potatoes and the boyfriend ordered the brickenridge a 32 oz porter house. First we received our salad, the blue cheese was actually really good and thick. That was about the only thing I liked. My meal was so bland I had to add so much salt and pepper to my mashed potatoes to even eat them. The steak was not marinated at all, it was the worst steak I've ever had. My boyfriends "porter house" was just a huge peice of fat. He probably got 10 bites out of the whole thing, it lacked flavor and beans tasted like they came out of a can. Stay far away from this place. There's a reason why it's so cheap.

Heard famous stories about this place from Navy men and well I had to try it. For lunch was this most amazing Mushroom Swiss Burger that had my mouth watering with each bite. The beef was fresh and the fries were hot. We went back for dinner with a party of 8 and each had different items. Fried green tomatoes and brussell sprouts were first time for me and mighty tasty.

If you want a heart attack, go here. Not sure why this place has been around for years. The place stinks, the decor is VERY outdated. Don't go.
