We've been coming here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. The Broiled Scallops are simply the best you will find anywhere. Avoid the touristy chains and make certain to stop here during your vacation.

5 stars! Beautiful building overlooking a small pond that is home to alligators and turtles. Upon request the staff will go out and throw food into the pond to get the alligators into view. First they brought us a basket of cheese biscuits and strawberry muffins which sounds a little strange but it was very good. I ordered the "Oysters Rockefeller" for an appetizer. It was very good and came with 5 oysters. I ordered the "Fresh Catch Imperial" with the fish of the day, Grouper. It was a very good white sauce with a thick gravy consistency. It came with se fingerling potatoes and some kind of mixed vegetable medley which was delicious. My wife ordered the special of the day which was a salmon and shrimp pasta dish. She was very pleased with it and had more fish than she could eat. We are going back for sure. Next time I'll prolly try the same thing again.

The view is good- has a pond with alligators and turtles so that's entertaining. Food is over-seasoned. We had the grouper, tuna steak, flounder, scallops, & shrimp. Everything was strongly seasoned, so much so that we couldn't taste the actual fish at all. Ordered Grouper pecan crusted- it was served covered in syrup and nuts... Think southern pecan pie flavored fish. Very strange. Tuna was ordered seared medium rare. Was cooked to order, but was cooked in steak sauce and it overpowered the flavor of the rare tuna. Scallops were so heavily seasoned (blackened) that it tasted like Old Bay, not like delicious scallops. If you don't like fish much, eat here. If you do like seafood: AVOID! Decor needs serious facelift. I would guess it's the same decor for at least 20yrs. Server was nice. For reference, I live in Atlanta and I eat establishments like Marlow's Tavern, Houston's, and Ted's Montana Grill.

Great place for happy hour drinks and food. Warren, Steve and Mel are great bartenders! Try the shrimp and grits! They are phenomenal!

Healthy bourbon pour is the best thing about this place. We dined here after a long day running a conference. My wife got the special NY Strip and Scallops. The scallops were closer to raw than even rare. At the price they charged for the special I figured preparation wouldn't be a problem. I had the Veal Neptune crab, shrimp and scallops. All the crab meat must have gone to one of the other's veal at the table. A couple shrimp and one scallop. None of it had much flavor. Maybe food network has made me want more, but the standard boiled potatoes and steamed veggies fell short as sides in my opinion. Our service was top notch, and I will add we didn't give them an opportunity to fix my wife's scallops since she had a such a large steak. Sending stuff back is generally not our style. Not a bad stop choice if it is between this an many other places in the Myrtle Beach area.

Wife and I had the chance to try this place out, I've been here a couple times before and love stopping here during vacation to eat dinner. This time I had a steak and was impressed as I am a hard pleaser for steaks haha. The atmosphere here is great for a dinner date with your significant other or family. Chestnut is a family owned restaurant that shows they really care about their quality of food and service. I normally don't write reviews unless I've been to a place more than once too. I remember last time I came here we saw alligators but this time we didn't. There is always next time :)

Enjoyed the small plates in a very comfortable setting. Service was good and prompt Food was properly prepared and served at correct temperature. Knife for cutting was dull and could've used sharpening. Will return.

Nice atmosphere, nice service, and very nice menu. Our service was good and the food was even better. We've been going here for a number of years and enjoyed every time. I'm trying to find a way to get to the Sunday brunch too. I hear it is lavash.

Great food great service and not as long of a wait as every other seafood place also have a variety of non seafood dishes great place with great view and quick service.

Our experience was ok, but it's not a place we will visit again. The atmosphere is wonderful... Especially if you can get a table along the window, overlooking the water. I got the crab cakes, and they were good. The vegetables were delicious- excellent flavor. I would not recommend the steak. My husband got the ribeye and it was much thinner/smaller than a typical ribeye, and was way over cooked.

This restaurant is in a fun setting and we were fortunate enough to have a front row seat to the very entertaining alligators and turtles. We went to the early bird dinner time since we were with our "cheapie" friends. The bar poured a really decent Manhattan according to hubs. We ordered the flounder dinner and thought it was tasty, fresh, well prepared and the accompaniments (potatoes and fresh veggies) were well done. The basket of freshly baked goods were delish. The service ( we were a tough table of 9-- some of whom were kind of rowdy) was top notch--evenly paced, professional and the waitress (Arta) could not have been more patient. Price is right for the early birds for sure.

  • Sydney G.

We had great service, but the food is no better than any other seafood house in Myrtle. Perfectly adequate. My shrimp were so overcooked, parts of them were crunchy. The two things I did like were the the honey lime dressing on the salad and the fried green tomatoes.

0 STARS!!!!! The food at this restaurant is as tasteless as the staff that works there. Unfortunately we had to pay $100+ for food that we would not even give our pets. However, the portions were very large but that turned into a bad thing with food this awful. Please do yourself a favor and never go this restaurant. Also, if you ever see anyone walking into this place or you hear a friend say they want to go, warn them of these tragic events so that they too don't have to suffer through the horrific experience my family and I had. Thank you and God bless.

Definitely worth the visit. The atmosphere and service are only surpassed by the food. Designed to look out over a small lake with a fountain. There is a platform where they feed the ducks and turtles which gives you something to watch before dark. Most enjoyable meal out for us in a very, very long time.

  • Deidra L.

I'm only giving one star because it's an required option. Food was awful, bloody Mary's tasted fishy. I'm not one to complain about the price of food as I do not mind paying for something that is worth my money. I wouldn't recommend this $50 brunch for two to anyone. Don't waste your time or money. At least the cleanup crew is cute, reason for one star.

Overall a great choice for dinner and we will definitely repeat on our next visit to Myrtle Beach. There was no wait the week of Labor Day. There is a pond in the back with alligators basking in the sun. The server was knowledgeable about the fresh catch fish. He also had a good working knowledge of the wine list. I had Grouper (one of several choices of fresh catch fish) was very delicious. My wife had the crab cakes and she said they were also delicious. The service was great, just attentive enough, but not bothersome.

  • Lisa C.

We ate there a few weeks ago. Nice atmosphere, but the food wasn't all that good and it cost way too much than what it was worth. It was nice sitting on the water and quiet atmosphere, but don't think I'll dine there again.

  • Joshua M.

Alright, so the service was fine. Our waiter was very attentive and he did his best, however knowledgable is not a word I would use. I always ask what the suggested preparation is on things like yellow tail or anything along those lines, the house always knows best...I guess sometimes. I have high expectations when I see price tags like these. The lettuce in the salad was wilted, the fish wasn't fresh and the she crab soup...just don't order the she crab soup. It's not she crab soup. Thoroughly unimpressed, don't trust your concierge people...they pay them to send people here.

By far absolutely the best Salmon I've ever eaten. I got the pecan maple salmon fresh catch. It was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. Went to Chesapeake restaurant, directly beside this one, yesterday and got salmon there, but it was way over cooked. Looking forward to the next trip here.

My girlfriend and I visited Chestnut Hill for her birthday while vacationing in Myrtle. I loved that our seats were right next to the huge window overlooking a lake! I went with the Surf/Turf while my date had the king crab legs. Both were fantastic. My only (minor) complaint was that I wish the potato side that we both received was different; it was basically just a boiled potato cut in half and seasoned. The veggies offered were good, and the house dressing was amazing. We also ordered stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and shared the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Both of these items were delicious. Cheese biscuits and strawberry muffins also were on the table, and both of those were great as well...as are waitress informed us, the muffins are rather addicting. One issue (and this is not the restaurant's fault by any means) was that a group a few tables over from us had brought two young children with them, and they proceeded to rub their faces and hands all over the waterfront window along with being borderline obnoxiously loud.

Over priced for average food. Go for early bird or don't go. Don't get the ny strip steak. Best to go somewhere else. Place is old and could use a major facelift.

Excellent restaurant. Great food and personal service. I'd recommend for anyone looking for something better than the average restaurants on the strip.

This was the worst food I've had in a while! First a strong fishy smell when you walk in. My menu had food smeared inside of it, and the table cloth was dirty from previous dinners, the window had finger prints smeared all over it! We were really hungry so I didn't leave, however the food was not edible! Flounder brown and slimy inside the salad had been made in advance and wilting no bread just strawberry muffins with fish? Scallops were tough and gritty like sand on them! Then my plate was a small plate $18 and my husband and sons plate regular $28 not any difference in amount of food on plates! Don't go!!!

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants and every time we went to Myrtle Beach, we would have to visit. We loved the atmosphere which was classy and cozy and not overly big and extravagant. My favorite dish was their tilapia which is the best I have ever eaten. The wine list was also decent. We would always love to sit by the window with a view of the water. It is a great place to go for a date.

  • Tim C.

Great ambience, hefty pours on the drinks, great service. My wife's steak was good and my fish of the day was grouper, cut thin and rather dry. I was disappointed with the fish but my wife was happy with the steak, though there are better places for steak in the area

  • Erika B.

Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and considerate of the various needs of our party which ranged from a toddler to a 91 y/o great-grandmother. The turtles in the adjacent lake were good entertainment for the toddler and our server brought his meal out immediately, which was also very helpful. The Caesar salad was really good and we also liked the honey lime house dressing. The grouper was a bit dry, but still decent cooked imperial style . Members of our party also had scallops (succulent and sweet) and various beef dishes, all cooked perfectly as ordered, although they needed a bit more seasoning. The strawberry shortcake for dessert was fragrant and sweet and the derby pie looked decadent. All in all, a nice calm atmosphere that is a bit of an oasis from the din of tourism with solid food.

STEAK LOVERS AVOID!! Or perhaps just their NY strip.. Here's what happened: A few days before I took my Gf and her family there for her birthday, my buddy went there and got a steak (not sure which cut). He warned me that it lacked flavor and had no seasoning and he was totally disappointed. So me being a steak guy and telling him I didn't need seasoning, I ordered the steak because I had to prove him wrong. Wow, he ended up the one laughing in the end... The NY strip tasted just like he said.. zero flavor, and totally terrible. In fact, it was licking the grates of my Weber grill! Potatoes were ok and salad was good. Do yourself a favor and spend the $30 on a GOOD steak, like Joe's Bar & Grill behind Olive Garden in north myrtle (us locals love that place!!). My Gf and her family thought the seafood was good but not worth the price. I promise, we really aren't picky people either!

Amazing brunch! It's all you can eat and Worth every penny! From fruit and salads to oysters, meats, crab cake Benedict, Asian dishes, to deserts this place doesn't disappoint. Great view of the turtles and alligators on the pond, too. Soooo delicious. You can get any breakfast staple, but don't miss the biscuits, the cobbler, teriyaki chicken... And save room to try all of the desserts! Delicious!

This is a very good restaurant. I have been several times and never disappointed. The service is very good and the Early Bird special is awesome. The ambiance is great with the turtles and alligators.

Very surprised by the bad reviews. We ate dinner here this evening for the first time. Staff was very nice, polite, eager to please. She Crab soup was very good, my wife ordered the Lobster Bisque and also enjoyed it. Kids meals were reasonable. We both ordered off the lighter-fare menu and walked away stuffed! Food was fresh and well prepared. Not a Bone Fish Grill restaurant, but great atmosphere and very good food. Many regular locals were at the restaurant as well.

  • Roland N.

Not a fan, food was not on point, all of our steaks were overcooked. Pricing was off line and the service was okay at best. The only cool things were the turtles out on the pond and on the kids menu they had a Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich for $253.95 served with a bottle of Dom Perignon. I didn't ask them if you don't take the Dom Perignon do they still charge you the same amount. I think they were good at one time and now just riding on tourists who don't know better and some locals they treat well when they come in. Don't waste your time or money. Remember to always drink responsibly Crazy Cubano Out

Made reservations for 2013 Thanksgiving dinner. Glad that we had reservations- they were packed to say the least. Although crowded, we did not feel like sardines while we ate; it was a little tight when going up to the buffet to get more food. Good variation on the buffet menu- all of the family were happy with the choices. Choices of turkey, ham, roast beef, seafood, vegetables and deserts were to name a few. My favorites were the oysters and the salmon. Will go back in the future for another holiday buffet.

A group of 4 hungry adults and a baby were driving around looking for some good food. We stumbled upon this place and ended up being pleasantly surprised. We were greeted and served by very polite and professional staff. The waiter was personable and knowledgeable of the menu. The ambiance was nice and semi-romantic, this was not the typical "touristy" spot which was great. We also enjoyed the view of the turtle filled pond that lined the back of the restaurant. It was so interesting and relaxing watching the turtles swim and interact. We even got a chance to see a couple of gators when someone threw bread in the water. The food was very good, everyone enjoyed their dishes. The menu has a variety, so there was a little something for everyone. My favorite was the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer, very tasty. We finished off our meal with a scrumptious and warm brownie for dessert. So good...

Okay food, great service. Entrees come with a side salad. I ordered the ny strip and crab cake...came with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Mashed potatoes were not good, the steak was so so and the crab cake was pretty good. Limited options....seafood and steak basically. The waiter was outstanding though.

  • Erwin B.

We have eaten here many times over the years and always enjoyed the food and service. However, on this visit, the food preparation was less than adequate. The scallops in the seafood coquille were very much overcooked to the point of being tough. The pastry in the bottom was drowned, soggy and a little rancid tasting. The crab cakes were low on crab. The seafood etouffee was heavy on green and red peppers and low on seafood. The only thing we loved were the fried dill pickle chips. For the price, you can do better! However, service was friendly and good, as always.

Cute restaurant, great service! My husband and I went for Sunday brunch. I enjoyed the salmon and potatoes. He enjoyed the crepes, sausage and collard greens. The food is moderate, very "home cooked" feeling. Overall I thought it lacked flavor and freshness, but certainly the best brunch in Myrtle Beach.

Coolest part of Chestnut Hill: --As we were waiting for the rest of the dinner group, the kitchen threw food scraps into the pond out back and I was able to watch ALLIGATORS devour it!!! 10 feet away and separated by a window, I was fascinated watching the gator crush his dinner! That said, this place is really nice. I (obviously) enjoyed the ambiance, thoroughly enhanced by the pond out back. The food was solid, drinks were nice, and the service was FANTASTIC! I'd love to come back here and try a seafood dish.

We were excited to learn that this was the same restaurant we enjoyed 20 years ago and they did not disappoint. Our waitress Jessica took great care of us. Lobster bites and blackened shrimp excellent appetizers. She crab soup had the wonderful flavor of crab and sherry. Seafood entrees were delicious and perfectly prepared. Meals were pricey but included cheese biscuits and strawberry muffins, crisp house salad and sautéed veggies. We all went home with leftovers. Definitely recommend for the service, the food and the view!

The entire staff was extremely welcoming for the entire visit here, and it made the food that much more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Myrtle Beach looking for a fancier evening out. Pros - rich and flavorful food - creative appetizers (we had a deconstructed sushi one using rice balls that was great) - friendly and attentive staff - not touristy - overlooking a pond Cons - portions too large (everyone left with leftovers)

Disappointed! Obtained reservation for Sunday Brunch and gentleman on phone abrupt while taking name/ time .... I should have been cognizant of the rudeness at that point, however my family and I wanted brunch! Upon entering establishment again rude staff(manager!)- waited at table for 5 mins before anyone else acknowledges us sitting... Food was actually pretty good so I am giving 2 stars for that only. Bill for 2 adults and 1 child 80$ and totally NOT worth it! Upon leaving 2 gentleman in street clothes at hostess stand and NEITHER said- "thanks, have a good day, or kiss our a&&!!! Very disappointed and will not return! In addition as a MB local I will ensure that I advise all our friends NOT to patronage this establishment. Service IS so very important folks!!!!!

We have been to Chestnut Hill several times over the past three years and always had a satisfying experience. This year we tried the Sunday brunch for the first time. It was good. Raw oysters on the half shell. You can't go wrong there. The rest of the items were pretty standard and are listed on their website. I was surprised they didn't offer made to order omelettes. (Just used to omelettes being on a brunch.) The food was great and so was the service. Everyone in our party of 7 was happy. We will return.

We had a 6pm reservation for 3 kids and 4 adults. Our table was ready when we arrived. The waitress was impatient and sometimes rude when dealing with the children. I had the nights special surf and turf with a filet and lobster tail. The lobster was generous but rubbery and the filet was over done even though it was order was medium rare. Overall the food was fine but certainly not worth the price charged. Many locals rave about this place but I won't bother coming back.

We had a great dinner here we was worried at first a little nicer then we thought with a 3 year old but menu and staff was great with her. The pond out back with turtles and alligators is also nice to watch when waiting for dinner. The homemade chips where great! We will eat here again next time in town.

My wife, my father-in-law, and I, went to the Sunday brunch today. The food was very very good. For an appetizer, my wife and I each got a half dozen oysters on the half shell...then looked around the entire buffet set-up for some crackers. There were none to be had. How odd, I thought, but after asking our waitress, I was quickly given a nice basket of assorted saltines and captains wafers. The oysters were fabulous...fresh, slightly salty, and a delicate flavor. I have one complaint, the shucker doesn't separate the oyster from the bottom shell, making it very difficult to get on a cracker without an oyster knife. That cost a star...sorry, but that is a basic requirement. From there all the various food choices were tasty, and we all went in different directions. Papa had the Angus beef au jous, sweet potato casserole, sliced fruits...and a small salad...and a pastry for dessert. My wife had fried chicken, green beans, mac and cheese, and fresh sliced mangoes and pineapples. I had the beef with horseradish sauce, some chicken, some scallop shrimp clam seafood bouillabaisse that was memorable. Service was friendly, and we enjoyed the experience.

Excellent food and service. Crab Cakes were delicious. Flounder was a good portion. Homemade chips appertizer was enjoyed by all. Strawberry muffins were to die for. Would not consider it a kid friendly restaurant but boys, 9&11, did well. Pricey, but good. Too full for dessert.

I eat here about 6-8 times throughout the year. The food is always excellent, and the house salad dressing (honey lime) is not to be missed. But what prompted me to write this review is to comment on the service. The last two times I've eaten here (Late March and now late April) the service has been less than par. The front desk station personnel are not as welcoming (snooty?) as in the past, and I've heard this from other regulars. There are a few new waiters who are also lacking personality. Our visit tonight brought a waiter who was condescending and rushed us, yet only had 2 other tables totaling 6 guests. I really hope the owner will examine what's going on with their employees and correct this soon, or we may find a new "favorite" place to eat.

Been here many times with the family over the years and it's DELICIOUS every time we go. The seafood is fresh and the steaks are prime. The seafood platter is great or the mixed grill. Our favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach.

Great dinner value with various specials during the seasons and time blocks. The 1/2 portion seasonal value meals were plenty large for a full meal. Service was great and suggested good sauces to go with the meal. Would highly recommend if looking for a quality quiet meal amongst all the noisy chain restaurants and buffets.

This is a good place for dinner, with food that seems like it is made to order. It's fun for younger kids (and kids at heart) to see the alligators and turtles and to feed them your leftovers. The food is good but not worth what they charge. However, the pb&j on the kids menu is not to be missed.

Always a great spot to hit when in North MB. Decided to go seafood this time with broiled seafood platter. More than enough food. Started with sampler app for the table as well. Stuffed mushrooms, Cajun oysters, crab cakes, and butterfly shrimp were great. We had 2 kids in the party and waitstaff was very pleasant.

After reading reviews we decided to try this restaurant for dinner......we were very disappointed in the food. The shrimp dinner I ordered tasted frozen and old, not fresh at all as described. We also had a strip steak dinner that was also disappointing. Would not return....

My favorite place to take out-of-town visitors. No one has ever received a less-than spectacular dish. One of my favorites is the fried oysters. The Sunday brunch is the very best around. Service is unfailingly perfect.
