My wife is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and we took her little here one evening for a couple of games of bowling. This place isn't bad. The prices were reasonable since there was a weeknight special. We really enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter was courteous and stayed on top of things pretty well. There were lulls in the service but when you're bowling, how often do you want to be interrupted? We were feeling a little hungry so we split an order of cheese fries. They were average. Nothing special but certainly not bad. If bowling is on the agenda again, I'm sure we would return.

Sparians is so much fun! I am embarrassed that I live around the corner and it took me 6 months to come here! We came on a Tuesday night, and didn't run into much of a crowd. Sparians has an arcade/game area with SkeeBall, Hoops, Air Hockey, Mini-Bowling... you get the picture. Most games are $1 per round. The lanes at Sparian were actually quite nice! Each side had a couch and a table to put your beer/food and belongings. They have quite the selection of bowling balls to choose from, organized by weight on different racks. The girls at the bar and counter were great, the draught beers were cold. We had a great night here and look forward to coming back for some fun!

I would have loved to give our experience 5-stars because the service we got from the staff on the bowling side of the building was great. Everyone we talked to was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately we sat at the bar before our lanes were ready and let me just say we were appalled at the language and unprofessionalism we witnessed. The young man behind the bar could not have cared less that he was at work or he had patrons at his bar, he was carrying on curse filled conversations with co-workers and acting overall very unprofessional. Having over 2 decades of hospitality experience between myself and my spouse, we understand having an "off day", but keep it in the back of the house.

Where to begin... We have been to River Bowl Charleston numerous times, and every time it seems to get worse. I'm not sure if they have new management or what, but it is getting to be awful. Let me preface by saying we have had TERRIBLE experiences in the past, but the bowling (lanes, balls, equipment in general) itself is good, so we continue to give them business. The manager (I assume) is completely clueless as to what is going on in his business. The staff came by ONE TIME to see if we needed anything (this is supposed to be a restaurant/bowling combo sort of thing). It took TWENTY FIVE minutes for a pitcher of PBR to make its way over, during which time the bartender was watching basketball and walking around with the manager, who was on his cell phone. Our beer was also served with warm plastic glasses - not good! I understand needing to check on your business, but watching us bowl the entire night is creepy and ridiculous. He needs to be managing his staff. Also, the staff in general are rude and in the past have used fowl language IN FRONT OF CHILDREN. Do they just not care? I do not think we will be going back. It's just getting ridiculous. There has to be a better bowling alley somewhere in Charleston.

I've been here a few times since they renovated and was pretty impressed. The customer service is over the top compared to most bowling experiences. You pretty much have a bowling concierge when you walk in. Someone brings you your shoes, gets balls for you to choose from, and is a general restaurant server bringing you your food and drinks. I know you're thinking, I don't eat at the bowling alley but the food is pretty decent. One of the best parts is that instead of those terribly uncomfortable bowling benches you see at most places, each lane has cushy couches instead. To me, bowling is usually more of a stop in the night but not a final destination. Nobody wants to hang at the bowling alley all night the way you would at a regular bar. Sparians seems more like a spot that you want to stay at, ;but if they're charging by the hour I guess that could get pricey. The arcade for the kids doesn't have much and if a few of the games are broken, then it really eliminates your options. Probably skip it. Also, if it's raining, expect a two hour wait, otherwise know as, don't bother.

This place is safe, clean has lots of different specials if you are frugal. They have 12 lanes ( I think), large arcade towards the front, separate bar and restaurant too. This place really does have some yummy bar food! Each lane has couches and a large table so you can eat, drink and be merry and bowl. You can rent by the hour, or do all-you-can bowl during certain times.

Terrible! We tried to go in and drink and bowl on a Sunday night before 9:30 and they said they were closing in 30 min. We called prior and they said they would stay open as long as the current game was going on. Little did we know half time was the end of the game. Will never return!!!

This really isn't a "bowling alley". There aren't many lanes and it seems to be tailored to a much younger crowd. Every lane has bumpers and a roll assist bar for kids. If you are a frequent bowler, this isn't the place for you. The lighting is low and the prices are high, for a bowling alley. If you are going as a family, it isn't so bad. For $50, 6 people can bowl all you want for 2 hours, with a large pizza and unlimited sodas. The pizza is actually pretty good and the servers are attentive. However, 2 hours is hardly enough time for 6 people to finish one game. So, basically $50 for one game and pizza/drinks.

Been a long time since I have been bowling and it showed. Great day with 2 couples meeting for beer and bowling. A winning combo! Got there a few minutes early and got a bucket of Stella! They ran out of Stella and the barkeep was nice enough to replace the lacking one beer with 2 others of our choice. Win/win. Sweetwater IPAs. Glad to have tried them. Wow, the bar has great TVs. Hardly anyone there which was a shame but World Cup action was on and the screen was excellent. May be back for that without the bowling. Our friends arrive and we made it to the lanes. This was our first time and it is a little confusing but the people there were very helpful. We bowled for 2 hours. Got in 3 games. It was pretty nice and we had loads of fun. Even got in a few strikes. Broke 100 each time after the first unfortunate game of 95. The prices here seem a little high but the deals during the week look like a good option. I plan on taking an afternoon during the week to give the place another chance. Overall this was a good experience.

Nice place, terrible service. If the service were as nice as the bowling alley, it would've received 4-5 stars; however, the staff was completely lackadaisical. Every time we needed something, we had to interrupt the staff that seemed to be huddled in a corner staging a coupe or something. Our waiter was very friendly, but seemed very new and didn't really seem to have any confidence or any real idea of what was going on. We played one round (family of four), my husband and I each had a beer, we had nachos, and a pizzadilla (terrible) and ended up dropping over $73. Seems a little pricey for a night of bowling... We were just visiting the area and are planning to return to Charleston this summer; however Sparians will not be on our to do list next trip.

Fun place to bowl. The food is just okay. The buffalo chicken salad is a bowl of lettuce with two fingers. It is disappointing but what you should expect from a bowling ally. Great place to get together with friends! Employees are super helpful and friendly.

I love the decor and couches when bowling. They are comfy and you almost get a taste of your own living room. Wait staff can be a tad slow sometimes, it's hit or miss. And the bowling is a bit expensive. I always have a great time with a nice big group of friends but you can be sure that it won't be a cheap night if you're bowling, drinking, and eating some snacks.

Monday night is half off bowling! We tried to go to the Alley but they were fully booked on a Monday so we came here instead and I'm glad we did. I'm surprised to say I enjoyed bowling! None of that skeezy vibe you usually get in bowling alleys. The bowling balls were all out by weight so I didn't have to ask for a child weight 9lbs like I usually do. Each lane has couches to sit on and a coffee table between, you can order food and bev - we just got bev. Overall, a good time and I wish we'd found this sooner since I've been living in Mt P since Nov 2012.

A great business idea and concept feel very flat and was a bad experience. The culprit? Bad customer service. First off this place is over priced for bowling. So if you are a bowler steer clear of this place. Terrible selection in balls and most were lopsided. The food was not good. The beers were flat and over priced as well. I could have dealt with all of that, but what I have little patiences for is an inattentive staff. It felt like my fellow customers and I were inconveniencing the staff by being in their bowling ally giving them money. Maybe we caught this place on a bad night but I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. There are better places to bowl, eat or drink that are way less expensive. This place wasn't for us.

Generally, I feel icky, greezy, and gross after bowling. Absolutely not the case at this snazzy little remodeled bowling alley. I was pretty much blown away by this experience, I mean, it's a bowling alley, right? I'm pretty sure most of us go in expecting very little more than the ability to wear silly shoes, sling a ball down a lane at some pins and maybe drink some cheap beer. This place raised my bowling alley bar, for sure. Prices were cheap for a Friday night. Service was the best; all of our shoes were brought to our lane and they even went and got balls for us (I was actually confused by this, but once I realized what they were doing I was just impressed). Waitresses were there to take our drink/food orders and the food we did try was better than expected. Not the frozen crap you come to expect from bowling alleys. And last but most important, THEY HAVE COUCHES AT THE LANES. Yes. COUCHES!! No awkward plastic chairs to sit on between frames. My life will never be the same.

A group of us went bowling last night at Sparian's and had a great time. They have done an excellent job renovating the place. Nice leather looking couches around the bowling lanes to relax in, good music playing as you bowl, and a friendly staff. The bar area connected to the bowling alley also looked great and Doc our bartender was very entertaining. I'd highly recommend going. The only issues I heard from any members of our group were the prices to bowl...it was $8 for the first string and $5 for each additional string. Big city prices.

From all the bowling alleys I've gone to this one is one of the nicest. They updated it so it has a more relaxed feel. Comfy couches, tvs, game area, bar area. They have it all! Bowling was expensive which was a downfall. At the same time I haven't bowled in at least 5 years so I don't know current prices. I heard they offer bowling leagues and half off nights. Tons of family fun or friends/drinking fun.
