These other people are nuts that gave below 4 stars. This place has fantastic soup and sandwiches. I got the special clam chowder and 1/2 BLT on the pretzel roll. My wife got the Broccoli cheddar and strawberry mozzarella salad. This was our first visit and we were blown away. Soups were great. I thought it looked like the soup Nazi from Seinfeld at the counter with all the soups, except they were super friendly. The soups were thick, creamy, and filled with meaty ingredients. We also went on a Thursday with our kids, which is kids eat free with a combo. We all ate for under $20, are you kidding me? Super affordable and super good. We went right at noon and it was plenty quick. I'd take this over a panera, atlanta bread or any of those types in a heartbeat. You other people can give low stars and not come back because I'm gonna be a regular. It'll make it that much quicker for me and my family. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I really reserve 5 stars for the best food ever, but I considered it because of the food and value.

Most of the things here are fantastic. Their Greek Lemon Chicken soup needs a little tlc, but the tomato basil makes up for it. Every sandwich I've had has been fresh and the ingredients are perfectly paired with each other. While seating is limited on busy days, it's usually not a problem! Also, they use Belly, so that's a plus!

Super slow service. I'm starving! It has taken over 10 minutes to get bowl of soup. We just asked about soup and were told we are 6 people behind. I know the soup is fantastic, but not worth wait on one hour lunch break. West Ashley has quicker service.

230 in afternoon, out of wife's soup choice, my tom basil soup was cold, she settled for veg, looked like canned veggies no broth, brought both back b/c cold, came back and still cold! Not going back anytime soon!

Never Again! Went for lunch and most of the soups were NOT ready?!! I was told 10 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 10... The owner acted like the soup at a soup place taking 30 minutes was a normal expectation and said the truck delivering the soup was late and some of the choices were still to "watery" and that our order should have never been taken even though she was standing there when it was. I was so shocked how rude she was to the patrons. The soup is def NOT worth dealing with excessive lines and a ridiculous owner!

Julie and the gang are awesome! Soups are always hot, and the service is super friendly!

I went to Ladles when they first opened up and had a bad experience with the amount of time it took to get my food. So I just never really had the desire to return until recently. I was over by Hobby Lobby and decided to swing by Ladles on my way home. This was around 6:30pm on a Friday so I figured I was beating the dinner crowd. And I did because there was maybe one or two tables seated when I got there. The good part was that it didn't take that long to get my food. I had read on Yelp where someone was raving about a salad that had pineapple on it. I see it listed on the specials board. I order that. Then I see lobster bisque on the specials board as well. I'll also take a cup of that. Nope, sorry they're all out of that. Um, ok. "How about the she crab instead?" Nope, sorry they're also out of that one. Really?! I don't even remember what the third soup I ordered was but guess what? Yes, they're out of that one, too. "Do you want to tell me which ones you do still have? Will that be easier?" I ended up going with the greek lemon chicken soup and the white bean and ham, which came in a smaller size that was included with my salad. Both soups were really good but I was extra sad when I was out of the greek lemon chicken. It was that good. In fact, I immensely enjoyed all the food. I can see why that other yelper was raving about the pineapple salad because it was super tasty. But c'mon, Ladles. You need to either stock back up on soup for the dinner crowd or in the very least, mark through on the boards which soups you're out of. I'm not sure how many times that night (or other nights for that matter) they had to do that song and dance, but I watched the exact same thing happen to the people who came in after me. You need to understand that people can get really excited when they see something that sounds good and then it's such a freaking let down to find out you're out of it. That's essentially teasing and no one likes a tease, Ladles.

My affinity for soups made me want to like Ladles so much, but it just isn't cutting it for me. I've given this spot a few shots now, but I just don't think their food is worth the trip or the money. I've tried a number of soups, from a she crab to a simple chicken noodle, & everything I've tasted reminds me of the canned soup you find at Publix. Their sandwiches are pretty standard, & seem like the type you make at home when you're in a hurry to get out the door. All in all, not my cup of soup. There's better out there.

Great cafe style atmosphere. Service is fast and friendly. Every soup I have tried from tomato basil to Greek lemon chicken to specialties like the buffalo chicken and "cheeseburger" soup is awesome! If you are a soup person, try the sampler and eat your heart out! :) The sandwiches and salads are great too! I had the Cuban today...might have been my favorite Cuban sandwich ever. Different but very flavorful. I always leave stuffed! They also have the "Belly" reward card program...clearly I am well on my way to a reward!

Horrible! Came and only a few soups ready! Told a 10 minute wait..turned into 30! The owner is nasty rude and said the soups are still too watery and it's obvious they come packaged. I would never return based on the way the owner herself treated customers, but also to go to a soup restaurant and not have soups ready...terrible!

Stopped in with my mom and sister who wanted good soup and a quick sandwich on. on Wednesday evening. we were extremely disappointed to the extent of asking for a refund. we each ordered the soup and half sandwich combo. we received the soups right away. with us being the only other table in the place one could assume that the sandwiches would be right behind.... we each finished our "ok" bowls of soup and waited 15 long minutes for each half sandwich. we watched the chef take his sweet time in the kitchen and even went up and asked for our money back....waiting that long for a HALF of a grilled cheese is ridiculous!!! The cashier/server was very rude and didn't seem to be in a hurry either. I have never been so disgusted! Such a shame because they will not last long with these problems!

I first went here in the winter looking for some hot soup and I got the She Crab soup combo with a BLT on Pretzel and it was amazing. The She Crab is top notch! I then went back this spring and got hooked all over again as they have two salads that are simply amazing! The Strawberry Mozz salad is probably the best salad I have ever had because of the Champagne dressing that comes with it, WOW! Another fantastic salad is the grilled pineapple salad, don't remember what was all on it but it did have feta and bacon and pretty much blew my mind so what started out as a winter destination has turned into a spring/summer destination. The staff is nice and the place is clean and they seem to care about quick service and for me having a 30 min lunch break this place works perfect. In the winter I typically wait 5 mins in line and 10 mins for the food. In the summer I can walk in and have my meal at the table in less than 6 minutes! I used to like Atlanta Bread but this place is for sure a step better and a nice switch up from the regular quick serve destinations.

I have been here twice and both times I have been very satisfied. First time had full bowl of Lobster Bisque soup and a full sandwich, too much food, but GREAT. I got to try out some of their Turkey Chili on this date and it was not a hot chili like I like, but it is more of a Charleston hot. Yesterday I had the Buffalo Chicken soup and a salad. The couple with me had the Loaded Potato and She Crab soup. All were great. I also enjoyed my salad. I like that they let you sample the soups if you want before ordering. I would recommend going here if you want a nice bite to eat and friendly staff.

I have only been in Charleston for 3 months, so the first time I had heard about Ladles was a few days ago when they were offering a deal through Groupon. I went on a Saturday around 2:30 pm. There were only a few people in there - apparently I had missed the lunch time rush as I heard that it's pretty crowded then. This place was a really great break from Panera and Atlanta Bread Company. Staff was very friendly. Menu had a good selection. They let you try samples of the soups, which is helpful. I ordered the strawberry and mozzarella salad with a 5 oz cop of tomato basil soup. Both were excellent. I took a club sandwich and pasta salad with me to eat later. Both of these were also very good. I would definitely recommend Ladles. I will be trying the West Ashley location soon since it's closer to where i live.

Ate here for the first time and it was OK. I had the French Onion soup and Dalters sandwich. My wife had the grilled fruit salad. Here is the low-down: French Onion soup - no cheese or bread in the soup. It was on the side and unfortunately cold. The soup had a good taste but seemed greasy. Dalters sandwich - good, a little heavy on the butter on the grill. Left the paper it was served on very greasy. The taste was good - tomatoes fresh, pesto was very good as well. Grilled fruit salad - nothing special, only stand apart was the frilled granny smith apple. Kind of lacked in taste overall. Glad we tried it since it is getting quite a buzz in Mount Pleasant but don't have a strong urge to return. ***Service was very good***

Loved the provelone ranger sandwich. Was better than my soup. Wife liked her sandwich a lot too. I've also tried the she crab soup there, and its good: huge chunks of crab meat, but maybe a little too strong on the white wine flavor. Still pretty good!

I went to Ladles today for the first time. I liked it at first until I found a hair in my sandwich.

Craving soup and sandwich? Forget about Atlanta Bread Co. because this is such a better option. Tasting is offered for each soup, and that alone could satiate your appetite! I had the bean and ham soup and it was fantastic! Homemade flavor, rich, creamy and well seasoned. I also ordered the pimento cheese sandwich and asked to have it grilled on rye. Not on the menu, but they didn't hesitate to create this for me. I love that.

love the soups/sandwiches here. favorite is the blt on pretzel roll bread.

Raising the roof on this review to a 4 Star. I stopped in a few days ago and they definitely stepped up the ordering process by adding an iPad station with square payment system. The line moved faster than a speeding bullet and food delivery was like a locomotive! It is up to you Ladles to keep it that way. Still needs improvement: Bread - When I first came here, you didn't serve bread with your soup. Absolutely insane for a soup place not to have bread. Anyway, you said you were working on it and you did. You now have these rolls, some wheat, some white. They are just okay. Scrap that and pick up a nice french baguette or sourdough. Soup sizes - Why you no offer no half soup? Give the people what they want! Offer a Bread bowl too. If you can do this, as well as maintain quality food and service, you may get the coveted 5 STAR!

Victoria Grilled Cheese is amazing! Will definitely have again and again! Love all of thier soups.

I want a bread bowl! The soups are always great, but they cool a little too fast in the thin plastic bowls....The special Hawaiian grilled sandwich was super tasty with ham & a slice of pineapple.....Thursday night is kids night so you can feed your brood on the cheap without compromising quality....nice art & colorful cichlids....BREAD BOWL!

Ladles's is another place that I really want to like but I am consistently disappointed. The She Crab soup has almost no crab :( and the alcohol needs to be cooked out a little more. The Ladles club was so sad. It was not what I expected. Clubs should have three pieces of bread... just saying. It was more of a ham sandwich a club. Overall, the soup is just okay and its a soup place...

Went for lunch today. Had been here before but did not like the ice tea. The last time we were here the tea was self-dispensed but it was not brewed tea - it was dispensed through the soda machine - ugh! This time we noticed the tea was in its own self - serve dispenser. Good, we thought, it should taste better this time. WRONG! It really tasted bad. So we waited until the food was delivered to our table and then mentioned that the tea didn't taste very good. Listen, we eat lunch out every day in Mt. Pleasant and we know what tea is supposed to taste like. The server quickly said "I'll try it and see". We'll she never did try it. Maybe we're different than many diners but we often judge a restaurant by the quality of its tea. This is the South after all. If the tea is bad, we're not coming back.

This place is always wonderful. When I'm super hungry mid day, I always come here to grab a combo. I love the the broccoli cheddar soup and the turkey club. The price is good and they give you a nice portion for the soup. When I'm sick, it's the best too. Because their soup is delicious and who doesn't want soup when they are sick? Love me some ladles

I am a big fan of Ladles! Very tasty soup and sandwiches. Perfect for rainy days for a boost of warmth. I usually order the Pimento Cheese grilled cheese sandwich and the broccoli cheese soup. Yum! The soup is very thick and filling. A great lunch spot.

Ok, I'm updating my review here bc I really do love Ladles. I find the food to be the perfect, refreshing lunch... regardless of the weather. The chicken salad is probably my favorite sandwich. It isn't made with much mayo, and has a bit of a herb taste to it. Though be careful, depending on who works in the kitchen.. you may get a full sandwich worth of chicken salad or just a little glob in the middle of two pieces of bread. Unfortunately, you never know. Their specialty is soup (hence the name "Ladles") and they do it right. Lots of options with several that change on a daily basis. My only complaint is that my to-go orders get screwed up more often than other spots. So I just recommend double checking before you head out. I always forget and then kick myself for it. The staff is super nice, so if something isn't right, you can be sure they'll fix it (and quickly at that) for you.
