The food is good, but my order has been incorrect on every single visit. The workers are not too bright, it seems. I was not happy to hear that the confederate flag used to wave in front of the business, how insensitive. At least they removed it when the owner passed. The restaurant is in dire need of updating as well. I do like the food though. The brisket is so delicious and the red bbq sauce is tasty.

After coming off a BBQ thanks to the great state of Texas, I was terribly disappointed by the pork sandwich I had after seeing all the highway signs for this place. We weren't 100 percent sure the place was even open as there were no cars or patrons inside at 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday. That should have been a clear sign to stay away but we were too hungry to notice or care. My first two choices of entrees were not available so I settled on a small BBQ pork sandwich. I wish I had known the local famous BBQ sauce was basically mustard. I felt like I was eating a hot dog gone wrong. At least their cole slaw was good and there were no one else in the large dining area to overhear our conversation as it was obvious the acoustics were quite good. 13/2014

2.5 stars is quite accurate for this place. I love the atmosphere, it's what you'd expect from a no nonsense BBQ place that cares only about the quality of the Q. However, the food was disappointing at best. Everything was covered in there mustard based BBQ sauce. Which I was not a huge fan of. There other sauces were very good so why force your customers to eat the mustard base sauce? Slaw was good it was similar to KFC slaw only slightly better. The other side I ordered was the Mac and cheese, it was quite bland and somehow watery. Not good! I ordered the sampler platter, I got a little pulled pork, a quarter cut of chicken, one Rib, yes one 1 Rib, a few slices of brisket and some hash. The rib was average but I only got one! The pulled pork was good but not enough for me to return. The chicken was pretty good however, the skin was not crispy at all. The hush puppy was normal. The brisket was flavorless and on the dry side. It was also cut supper thin in an attempt to hide the fact it was poorly prepared/smoked. Brisket is an extremely difficult thing to master, don't put it on the menu if you don't do it well! The hash was by far the worst I've had since moving to this area over a year ago. The rice was even under cooked. The staff was friendly but I asked for one thing, after she asked if she could get me anything, I said two forks one for each of my kids. I never got forks?? Why ask if you can do anything for me and then completely ignore my only request. I will not be returning.

Stopped at this location after a great experience at another Columbia location, thought this was going to be the same one until I got there and saw that it wasn't the one I remembered. I figured, O well, should be the same good BBQ. Not quite. Definitely the same food, but everything was just not quite as good and fresh tasting as I had experienced at the other. Meat was drier and less flavorful. Hush puppies were still good, but the same, drier and less flavorful. The sauce was even not as good, last time I remembered it having a perfectly balanced mustard based flavor that I loved, this time it was closer to just mustard. I love the mustard based sauce, but the keyword is based. And to further disappoint, the Sweet Tea just wasn't great, not very sweet or fresh tasting. I think it all boils down to everything tasting like it had been made several hours ago and sat around all day. I'm giving them 3 stars because it wasn't awful, it was just not what I expected from an experience at a much better location. It looks like there are about 20 locations in Columbia alone, find a different one, I recommend this one: yelp.com/biz/maurices-bb… A little further off the interstate, but worth it in my book.

Ok, I didn't eat at this location, but I've eaten at many of the others in the Columbia area, but I think that I'll start with this one. During our obligatory visits to SC ( we live in Hawaii ) I feel that I need to do quite a few things to make my (our) trip complete, buy tons of Gamecock attire, enough to last till the next visit, eat at the many incredible BBQ places that I grew up with, buy a ton of Dukes mayo, and lastly, stock up on Maurice's BBQ mustard base BBQ sauce. The heathens in Hawaii believe that BBQ sauce should have ketchup in it for some reason. I walked into the Lexington Maurice's and expressed my desire for twelve 12 bottles of their original BBQ sauce, after a few strange looks I told my story, which usually gets a smile, and a then knowing look. Unfortunately they didn't have twelve 12 of the original sauce, but they did offer me the spicy, OMG this stuff is fantastic, if it wasn't so damned had to get ( for me) I would dip everything in it, awesome, and since I bought so many they offered as small discount which I graciously accepted. Thank you Maurice's for helping make my trip home complete.

I hate to even give this one star. We walked in, looked at the buffet, the food was so dry and crusty, we walked out. It was so bad, we still laugh about it today.

Just flew in from Dallas,Texas and seen the billboard for Maurice's Barbecue. Ordered the Jr Piggy plate and it was a curious mix, but must be a staple in the Carolina's. Normally a hush puppy is eaten with catfish and I had never had hash with rice. Since I am used to Texas style sauce, the mustard was interesting, not really a Wow factor, but the buds were not used to. While I was eating, a man bought two of the large jugs of mustard sauce so it must be good. The pulled pork was good and I enjoyed the overall experience of Caroline Q....Now will explore other joints this week
