Do not eat here! We should have listened to the reviews and fact that the lot is always empty when we drive by. Fried shrimp weren't fully shelled or cleaned. Nor were the scallops. Flounder was literally black on the underside totally disgusting. Coleslaw tasted off in a rotten way. The only thing safe to eat was the hush puppies. We will definitely never go back and I wouldn't recommend this place to your worst enemy.

Not a bad place to grab a meal or a few drinks. Nothing too special but some decent fried seafood for chain restaurant prices. Never my first choice for a meal, but we lived so close by it served it's purpose on quite a few occasions. Hushpuppies are pretty awesome here though. Not bad to have an order of with a beer at the bar.

I'm not really the type to give bad reviews, but I need to be honest. When you live in a town as close to the beach as Summerville or Ladson, you expect a certain level of quality in a seafood dinner. For the price, I could have done better at home. I got the shrimp, scallops, and oyster trio combination with side salad and mashed potatoes (red skin mixed). It is obvious that all of their seafood is battered with the same batter and fried in the same grease which leaves each individual dish tasting like the next. Everything was very bland and greasy. The mashed potatoes tasted like they had been made with a heavy cream that was a tad past its expiration date and there was also a slight hint of what honestly tasted like dish soap. What brought us to Gilligans in the first place was the "Family night, kids eat free" sign. We are a family of five. No where did it say on their sign or in the restaurant that the number of kids is limited to the number of adults in attendance. Maybe this is a norm that I am just not familiar with? Being a military family, the spouse is often deployed and I've never experienced a limit based on the number of paid adults. I feel this is relevant to add simply because the only people in the facility were families with children. When the server brought me the bill, they had not removed any of my children's meals and I had to ask about it. He apologized and took it away to fix it. Family night? Place has nothing but families with kids....and he forgot? Ok...everyone makes mistakes. He returned with the check only having removed 2 of my 3 children's meals. I asked about it and that is when I was told about the one child per paying adult. I did not argue even though I did not see this 'fine print' anywhere. I paid, left my survey comments, and chalked it up to a learning experience. 2 adult meals and 1 child's meal (no appetizers or alcoholic beverages) cost us $58.00 and some change before tip. For a bland, greasy, thrown together meal, I would have been better going to Captain D's for the same quality at a cheaper price. The environment is also very drab and uninviting. The recessed lighting is the only lighting in the restaurant. However the positive to that is that it suppressed my usual desire and clean up action that generally takes place when my toddler decides that half her meal would look better on the floor beside her high chair. It appears that this restaurant is a 'bare minimum' type operation. Little effort and poor quality ingredients to reduce overhead is the operational standard here. Again...I'm not a fan of negative reviews, but I felt the need to warn other families that think they might give this place a whirl on family night. Go to McDonald's and let the kids play in the play place and get a fish sandwich. Also, I felt very sick about half an hour after eating. I ended up puking... Sorry if that is TMI, but I NEVER get sick from eating..ever. A day later and I can still taste the grease.

Monday nights, kids eat free here. The food isnt horrible, it just isnt the caliber it used to be. The she crab soup is ok. But if you get a chance to try the fish stew - that is hands down still one of their best items on the menu. I personally only like to get the appetizers anymore, namely the oysters, crab leg or hot peel and shrimp appetizer. I just find that most of their food is always overly greasy. The hush puppies, the green beans and rice. Too much grease. Its like they just dont care about the quality of the food anymore. Quite sad actually cause i used to love this place. My son loves the fish sticks here. They kids portion will feed an adult easily. I like the bar area in the back, its nice and cozy. The bartenders are attentive and friendly. The servers are always really nice as are the hostesses.

I go for the hush puppies. I'm honest here. The food is okay. The service is on par. The prices are way too high for what it is. One big complaint is the abundance of Old Bay seasoning this place likes to put on my shrimp. A little goes a long way, folks.

The meal was unbelievably salty. So salty that it completely overwhelmed any of the food's flavor. Mouth-puckering salty. Nose wrinkling salty. Multiple glasses of water salty. Can't finish what's on the plate salty. Heart attack salty. Salt on salt salty. If you're on a sodium restricted diet, keep driving. I feel sorry for the waitstaff, who were friendly, but who have to bear the brunt of the extremely overly salty heavy hand of this restaurant's kitchen.

2nd time eating here. 1st time for dinner and now for lunch. Both times the food taste old and not fresh. The service is normal. The price is is high for the quality of food. Priced like a tourist trap with no atmosphere and pre-frozen food. The men's bathroom is also very dirty and smells. The only good thing that I have had were the hush puppies.

I got food poisoning from oysters eaten at Gilligan's on Ladson Road in Summerville. I spent my New Year's Eve in emergency care hooked up to an IV. Blood and urine tests confirmed a bacterial infection and the doctor said the culprit was oysters. The doctor said the bacteria that caused the food poisoning came from the oysters not being cooked and/or cleaned properly. Gilligan's first denied liability when my grandma went back to the restaurant to speak with them. They said it takes at least 24 hours to get food poisoning and therefore I couldn't have gotten it from their oysters. After the doctor confirmed it was food poisoning from oysters, she called to let them know that evening. The manager didn't return her call until the next day and then only refunded $12 for the oysters, but would not refund the entire meal. They are a seafood restaurant and work with seafood every day. They should know how to cook oysters properly AND they should take responsibility when someone gets sick from a meal that wasn't cooked correctly. Bad customer service, bad oysters. DON'T GO HERE!

Moving from western NC looking forward to a good SEAFOOD meal. The food was average and the cost was high. Even a baked potato is an "upgrade!" Ordered green beans which were frozen and the water in them ran inter the fried seafood and soaked it. I told the waitress and she said, "yea we've had that complaint, in fact we used to put them in a separate dish, don't know why we stopped." Also, they were tough and undercooked. She offered to bring a different side, but it was the soggy seafood that was ruined! A medium quality seafood meal for two was $50 before the tip. Never going back!

The food was wonderful for the prices... I especially liked the tacos. The management came out to check on us, and our waitress was the most attentive we've had since we moved to the east coast. Being so far from home (Hawaii) had made me greatly appreciate any restaurant that plays Hawaiian/Jawaiian/Reggae music. This restaurant had a wonderful music selection and the fish tank in the center of the dining room was perfect for entertaining our toddler. A little kitschy, but overall our favorite place in Summerville.

We've lived here for 6 years and Gilligan's has always been just "OK". We stopped in 2 weeks ago after about a year's absence. I don't know what happened to this place but the food was pretty bad. My husband's She Crab soup was practically flavorless and my chicken wings were overcooked and swimming in grease. All of it was over priced. Your kitchen needs an injection of passion, Gilligan's. Until that happens, we just can't spend our money on lousy food. We also couldn't fail to notice that the restaurant was empty on a Friday evening. Not good. They still have the best hush puppies around, but they sure got smaller! .

I was with a big group, wait staff handled it the best they could. Still really slow and mistakes on orders were made. Food was good.

Have not been to Gilligan's in a few years and sorry I returned yesterday but will NEVER go back. We had the all you can eat shrimp which we had steamed. For an appetizer we had the fried calamari. We also had a diet coke and water to drink and that was it. Hush puppies and calamari were loaded with GREASE! With the shrimp we had corn on the cob which was cooked so people with no teeth could eat it...MUSHY! Shrimp were just okay and nothing special with many shrimp overcooked and rubbery. Restaurant floor and tables were dirty and have not been deep cleaned in quite some time. Restrooms lacked HOT water. No hostess on duty with seat yourself sign up. Total bill was $85.00!!!!!! Are you serious? DISAPPOINTING! Definitely not worth the price. Wonder when they had the last health inspection?

We love to go to Gilligans for the local steamed oysters. And just as many times before we were not disappointed on this visit. The oysters are clean and steamed perfectly. We also tried some calamari and shrimp dip. The shrimp dip was our favorite. The service was on point. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.

Good service... However, not good food. Improperly cooked crab legs, super greasy hush puppies and so-so she crab soup. My guests wanted crab legs and I specifically told them that we have had bad seafood at all of the "local" chains around here and they'd be better off with Red Lobster... (Which was a great dining experience the last time we went there), but alas they didn't want to eat somewhere they have back home. The manager was accommodating, but we won't be going back here.

So, first time was meh......went for a second time.....slightly better....3rd time...NEVER AGAIN....bugs, dirty and not fresh. Honestly, the server was polite and sweet, but seriously for seafood.....VERY disappointing! watching bugs crawl on the wall while eating is never a good sign......don't bother. The Manager was nice and professional when we told her what we saw and experienced, but I don't think I can get over anywhere that doesn't keep it's dining room spotless and food fresh, no excuse ever!......nuff said

1 st of all they're to high you get a better meal out of Wal-Mart frozen section then here and there good is tasteless it has no season at all. This place I wouldn't recommend to a kid taking a prom date there they're better off at McDonald's

I hadn't eaten here in about two years, but I decided to give them a try again. I was in town visiting family and we needed somewhere close by, so we stopped in. I realized why it has been two years since I stopped. The shrimp was tough and had no flavor. I want to like this place, but when you are a seafood place, in the Charleston area, it has got to be fresh! This place is in need of a makeover. Where it is located, this could be a cash cow, if the food was just fresher. A little pricey, but the service was great!!

Went with a big group of relatives. Waitress was good. Food was slow coming out. Food was not what I and my family expected.

It's OK. I was in town for a party and asked my sister and bestfriend who live in N. Charleston who had good seafood, this place was their answer. It was ok, everything comes fried. Welcome back to the real south huh? The hushpuppies are extra sweet, they are like fried donut holes without the glaze, but good. The have a "full bar" but don't carry top shelf. Hmmmmm..... My oysters were great though.

Food was passable, nothing to write home about. But the service was terrible. Our waitress left plates, beers, and the like on the table for the entire meal. I will not be bak and do not encourage others to stop by. It's average food and you can probably get it elsewhere with better service.

Okay, it's no culinary masterpiece - they don't list 4 ingredients in every dish's title and Hard-core Charleston foodies may even cringe at seeing this review. But it certainly is no tourist trap. Wife and I ordered a slew of apps to graze on as we often do and everything was very good and affordably priced. Can't believe I never went in here when I lived just down the road for 2 years. Service was helpful, atmosphere is very casual (and open - don't go for a romantic dinner). If you're in Summerville and looking for a good seafood dinner and don't have a boat or feel like trucking east, stop in

I eat here every time I come to S'ville. No pretension, good service and great seafood! I especially love the sweet hush puppies and she crab soup!

It's been a while since I've been to the Ladson Gilligan's, and that's probably because I was disappointed (on more than one occasion) in the size of the portions. Everything else is okay, but I won't go to the Ladson restaurant again, if I'm really hungry.

If I could give this place less than one star, I would. My family had a horrible experience there this evening. The food was sub-par and the service was worse. When I complained to the manager, he nonchalantly asked me what I wanted him to do. He was completely unprofessional and unconcerned about our dining experience. Avoid this place unless you want to waste your money for a stressed out lunch or dinner.

Well, I kind of used to like Gilligan's. Mostly because I could shrimp-binge at a decent price. And the fried shrimp was good....really good actually. Back then (anywhere between 3-5 years ago), I used to get the all-you-can-eat shrimp special for about $18.99 (give or take a couple bucks in there) and could eat their grilled, boiled, or fried shrimp until my stomach's content. Not anymore. That same special is now around $24 for the fried shrimp only. $29.99 for the mix-and-match preparations. Nope and nope. And nope. For this shrimp, mediocre sides at best, and standard selection of drinks (although the only thing I can think of that they do different is a new cocktail served inside of a coconut), it's barely worth half this price. The sides here are pretty much worthless, the fish is...fishy and can easily be over-cooked (as the grilled shrimp), and the jalepeno hushpuppies are pretty decent. The service is and has always been good. For that, and the good fried shrimp in the past, they get two stars. Nothing more nothing less. I have no qualms about spending $30 for a plate, but this just isn't worth it by far. Bottom line: I would tell you to go here if it were a few years back and get a ton of good fried shrimp for a good price, but now, you can get much much better for your money.
