Is there such a thing as an upscale beach dive restaurant? This place is kind of hard to categorize. When my family pulled up in the parking lot on our way back from Edisto Beach, the owner stuck his head out the kitchen window to let us know that bathing suits were perfectly acceptable dinner attire. That was cool but it kind of contradicted the atmosphere inside, where the walls were covered with local artwork for sale and several well-to-do locals seemed to be holding court in their own section. If you're a fan of local seafood, be sure to stop in and see what you've been missing.

Viewed menu online and was very excited about having much healthier choice of grilled seafood but when arrived at restaurant was told only choice of having seafood prepared was fried very disappointing. But drove all the way from Charleston, SC so only choice was fried seafood. All the food was very good had shrimp and scallops with rice and coleslaw. Tried the marinated vegetable salad, seafood bisque, fries and of course the hush puppies and was very pleased. The owner and staff were very nice as was the clean pretty restaurant but I won't return only for fried seafood in the future because the kitchen couldn't be bothered that evening to put in the extra work. Too bad!

First impression was that the place was immaculately clean. For appetizer my wife and I had the seafood bisque - excellent! We chose an odd combination for dinner, each having what they termed surf and pig which was barbecue and seafood as the cue is smoked on site. The seafood was great, but the cue was even better. My wife tried the pulled pork and I had ribs. The pork was smoked to perfection. The ribs were as good as I have had almost anywhere. When we had finished, the owner/cook/ captain came by the table to chat and to see how we liked the fare. That is always a nice touch. I will return. The restaurant is a 15 minute drive from Edisto Beach.

The restaurant was super clean, staff way friendly, food was prepared good. Awesome environment, everything was top notch til I got the bill. For the amount of money spent should have been able to take something back to the camper. $97 to feed two adults and two kids meals. Was not expecting to pay that much for supper. If Capt Jimmy would lower his prices he would have repeat customers. The place is to nice not to be packed all the time.

Carolina BBQ can be hard to make and this joint nailed it. The pork ribs were the best I've ever had, the right amount of smoke and so much meat! The chicken was smokie without overpowering the chicken. The pulled pork was perfect with just the right amount of vinegar. Hush puppies were very good also. It's a family owned place and they made us feel so welcomed.

We stopped in after a day at the beach, and we're very happy we did! Everything we had was great, the flounder, shrimp, pulled pork, ribs, and marinated vegetables are all highly recommended.

I enjoyed my meal but found the fried flounder not as delicious as that at nearby Whaley's on Edisto Beach. It may be a matter of style--i.e. a thin crust that separated from the fish--but I was disappointed. It's a pleasant fairly quiet atmosphere which some may prefer. Not a dive. A good option if you are arriving late to the beach. The fish stew was excellent as was the red rice.

Great fresh seafood at its best!!! Best seafood at Edisto. The kids menu is a little pricey but we ordered an adult platter and split it and it worked out great for our girls. A must try if you're at Edisto. We will definitely be back.

My friends and I stopped by here after having been on that long and lonely road heading to Edisto Island. When we saw that Captain Jimmy Bell's seafood and bbq was coming up out of no where, we were jumping with joy! This place is out in the open road. There's gavel parking and the restaurant is spacious. The staff was super friendly and the service was fast. There was a good choice of selection on the menu. Something for everyone. I recommend trying the pull pork with honey mustard sauce. It's fantastic. The ribs were really good and so was the fried flounder. Something my friends and I haven't seen before is the red rice on the menu. It was different so we tried it. Basically red rice is Atlanta's version of dirty rice. Red rice must be a low country thing but it was very good. They close at 8:30-9 pm so call ahead to order if you are running late. I'm sure they will wait for you. ;)

This little restaurant just outside of Edisto Island is by far the cleanest, most updated and friendliest restaurant we've been to thus far in this area. Our party of 6 enjoyed everything from the pulled pork and burgers to the oyster and crab cake po boys. Everything tastes fresh and was reasonably priced.
