We stopped for lunch while on a bike ride around the island. I tried the chicken and biscuits with gravy. Heavenly!!!! Gravy was white, the biscuits fluffy, the chicken was panned fried to perfection along with some mashed potatoes. A must try for all the northerns from OH, PA, MI and NY areas. Then wash it down with a sweet tea. Now back to the bike ride to start burning the huge amount of calories, but worth everyone of them...

Most awful meal in years. When I saw the 900 items on the menu, I should have walked. Better to do a few things well, than not at all. It was decided myself and Chef Ramsay would have a blast visiting again and tearing the place apart!

Our service was a little chaotic. Waitress was not very knowledgeable. I ordered the fried chicken but requested all white meat, but the manager told me I was unable to do so. Settled on the Blue Burger cooked medium but came out well done and dry. The wife ordered a Long Island Iced Tea but it was delivered with a fly in it (they did deduct from our bill). Out of all the restaurants on the island, I would not plan on coming back.

The service and staff were great, we went on Sunday for breakfast, no wait time. Cute retro look. Great food presentation. Cons: Taste & quality of food was so-so, not seasoned at all, the sausage was a tad to greasy and the ham actually made my hubby sick. We will not visit again. I read some of the other reviews that said how great it was so maybe it was just an off day but, it was our first impression and it is a lasting one.

This place is cheap, convenient, and has a huge menu. Our server was great, but the food was just average. Being in Hilton Head (and being named Hilton Head Diner), I was hoping for more of a local flavor. Nothing on the menu felt original to Hilton Head, and everything was very generic. Honestly, it felt like half of their menu was frozen or came in a carton. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I was hoping for more.

We came here for dinner since no one could decide what else to get and I have one kid who doesn't like seafood. The menu is vast and you will need to have some idea of what you are in the mood to eat to decide quickly. Breakfast is all day. Son got the pancakes. HUGE order, but they were really yummy. My salad was ok. I don't think of cucumber on a Cobb, but whatever. The grilled chicken was almost dry, but overall the salad was tasty. other child had a philly steak. It was fine. Had good flavor but used cheddar cheese. Husband had a burger on texas toast with an egg. He said it was a decent burger. Service was ok. It wasn't that busy, but I had to look for him for refills. They have desserts on display up front but we didn't get any. Man checking us out...I suppose he was the owner....seemed very abrupt, bordering rude in his tone of voice....but then I realized he was from up north based on accent....so I won't hold it against him. I can't say we would return unless we were again at an impasse for choosing dinner.

Food was very bland, took forever to get our food and the server forgot our daughters drink, server only came to order drinks, order food drop food off and the check, never asked how everything was, didn't refill drinks , we had to flag her down to ask for some ranch... Do. It recommend at all.

Time & Date of visit: Very late evening/early morning on a Friday. Party Size: 3 Location/Ambiance: Rows of booths with modern decor. One of the few restaurants open 24 hours Service: Limited staff on late nights. After taking our drink orders and next food. It felt like our food took forever to come out. Seems that the kitchen can be slow late at night as well. Come here if this is the only option left at night and you're still going to be awake when the food comes out. Food/Beverages: One egg with sausage and grits: I requested my egg to be cooked scrambled, which turned out alright. I wasn't expecting much really. The sausage was very salty though. While the grits had no seasoning at all. I decided to just mash up the egg and sausage into the grits to give everything a balance flavor. Summary: One of the few options opened late a night that is vastly understaffed on the weekends. Be prepared to play the waiting game or watch some youtube clips until the food arrives.

Went here two days ago for breakfast. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but I would agree with the three star average rating. It has the typical breakfast foods. The service was good and friendly and everything came out as ordered. No wait to get seated. Somewhere to stop if hungry, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

  • Jamie G.

Breakfast was good, the bananas foster French toast needed more syrup though. The home fries were extremely dry. The stuffed French toast was great! Our server was fast and thorough, we were out of the diner within 30 minutes. The baked goods all looked yummy, we bought 2 chocolate chip cookies for the long trip home from vacation. For some good comfort food, the diner is worth the stop, but is a little on the pricey side.

I want to give this place less than one star! To the rude owner or manager at the front kiosk on Sunday 7/5 morning at 10:53...you have one opportunity with most first time guests to make a lasting impression and your attitude and unwillingness to serve just ruined our experience. We come here three times a year with new friends and will never be back! To our waiter, who was annoyed because I was substituting items and asked for a cleaner cup of coffee, you are in the food business to serve! Serve whole heartedly! Don't act like I am in your way! My husband had to go get us straws and creamers because we waited twenty minutes! That's waitress 101! Lose the attitude and your day and job will be much more enjoyable! Your leadership top down sucks!

  • Shelly S.

Nice ambiance but the avocados in my grilled cheese were darker and almost spoiled. The calamari was too chewy. I felt bad for my boyfriend as he struggled to eat them. I'm sure if you order other items this is a good place, apparently not for us. Paying for something that is unsatisfactory is a real bummer. So many other places to eat, but this was one of the only places open late night. We went back to the hotel and ate a protein bar, lol.

I really enjoyed my experience here. My family came here 3 times and twice we got the best waiter named Constantine. He never got an order wrong and was very patient with all of our requests and changes. I thought the food was a bit pricey for a diner but it is Hilton Head so I could understand. We all were surprised at the flavor in the food. It was pretty good and of course it offered a lot of variety so for a large party, it was a great choice.

  • Kim E.

The service was very fast and friendly! We asked for customed things and it was not a problem! The Oreo pancakes were amazing and the eggs Benedict were do dye for not to mention the old fashioned challah bread French toast! We stop here every time we come to island before we even check into the hotel.

Typical diner food. Breakfast all day so that's a plus if you want to sleep in. The service was just ok. My husband and I both ran out of our drinks and didn't get refills until we were finished with our meal.

Was looking for quick, inexpensive meal after a long day. No wait and had drinks within 2 minutes of walking in. Initially sat under air vent but condensation fell on my wife so we asked to move and no issues. Food was as expected - it's a diner, not a 5 star restaurant so keep that in mind. Decent price for 4. Would go back if looking for quick inexpensive meal.

I truly have not one positive thing to say about taking my family here. Went on a Friday at 830 in evening. Not busy at all and this should have been a clue. Service bad! Food was bad! Prices were so over the top for what we actually got. My one son ordered chic and waffles 13.99 and it was literally one soggy waffle and three small chic tenders. Complete joke. Will never go here again! I ordered the Cuban and specifically asked server about the pork if it was z slice of what. Literally a few scrapings of pork on fried white bread. Not even pressed. Total joke for 10.99. Never again. No way!

Their french fries are amazing! Service really needs improving. My main dish the Hilton Head wrap was ok, the chicken was really dry.

OMG, where do I start. Stay away from this place. My wife and I decided to try this dinner for breakfast. The waitress start us off with coffee, both cups were stained. I do not understand how she could of missed that, they were like dark brown stains. Did she think we wouldn't notice. Once we got clean cups, the Java was very weak. We order 2 omelets, 1 broccoli and cheese the other one a Spanish omelet. Let start with the broccoli one, the broccoli was raw, the eggs were bland, no seasoning whatsoever. My wife did not want toast nor home fries/hash brown with her omelet. So they served it by itself in a plate, no presentation, no nothing just omelet. Fine, no biggie not expecting much more. Now for my Spanish omelet, it was stuffed with onions, green pepper, mushrooms with a tomato sauce. This same sauce was also on top, gross. All you could taste was the sauce, I tasted the end of the omelet, were no sauce was present, again the eggs were not seasoned and really bland. The has brown that came with my omelet were starchy, and raw. The rye toast had so much butter on them that the toast became soggy. Couldn't even eat that. Everything was sent back, explaining to the waitress that this was the most disgusting thing I've ever been served. The funniest part, was when she came around after all this wanting to know if we wanted more coffee. I do not understand why she didn't notice that we only had a sip of their weak coffee and our cups were still full. She was just not paying any attention, or she would of noticed this and would of noticed our dirty cups. I would stay away from this place at all cost, I can think of so many better places to eat. Like I told the waitress "disgusting" . Wish I could give it no star.

Good place for breakfast. Not too pricey, and the food fills you up. I had a short stack of pancakes (which was plenty!) and bacon...thick and tasty! The service was fast and friendly.

  • D D.

Average food but terrible service. Long wait to get a table, long wait to get someone to take our order, long wait to get our food, and no coffee refills unless you get up to find someone. We kept flagging down people to try to place an order and they said that they weren't our waitress and couldn't help. When we finally got our food, the waitress drops it and walks away, mid-sentence while I'm trying to ask for some more coffee and napkins. I had to follow the waitress back to the kitchen to ask for some more coffee. We are locals and won't be coming back. I hope all the tourist standing in line to eat here will read this and look elsewhere. I almost never post yelp reviews but this place "inspired" me.

This is the closest thing to a real diner down south! I must get my diner fix here when I am in Hilton Head. Everything here is typical (as in wonderful) diner food: huge menu; breakfast all day; and a bakery case full of goodies, just don't expect fine dining. Personally my favorite thing to order is chipped beef on toast. This is more of a South Jersey-Philly breakfast item and they do it justice here. This place is always on my list of places to hit when I am in Hilton Head.

  • Ml V.

We are locals and have been here many times throughout the years. On our most recent visit we were very disappointed with both the service and quality of food. The food tasted like it was prepared with bad oil.

    (1)
  • J V.

Ummm..... Ewwwww, not good at all. We got the BLT and the Monte Cristo. Bacon was old reheated product and the MC was 2 giant pieces of French toast with cheap grocery store deli cuts on top.

  • Susann Y.

We came for dessert only. The coconut cream pie was delicious! The chocolate eclairs did not diss appoint. Add a decaf coffee and make the evening complete.

Decent diner food, got a blt, fries, which were great. The wife got the crab cake sandwich. It was ok. Service was excellent! Very friendly, fast and quick to refill your drink! Even when your barely past half done it. I'd go again in a heartbeat. Good people!

  • Christopher B.

The experience overall was terrible. It was way over priced for the quality of the food. The food seemed to have been waiting a long time before it was brought to our table and was definitely not freshly prepared. Specifically, the NY strip steak happened to actually be a bland ground beef patty that must've been seared on a grill, with very little seasoning added. On top of that, our waiter was trying to do too many things at once, and took a long time to bring us our checks. There was also an issue splitting the bill after two people ordered an appetizer to share. I mean what kind of restaurant can't split things? I'd recommend not choosing this as your first option, but a backup plan instead. The menu has a variety of choices, but the food just seemed to come out below average.

    (1)
  • Dave S.

Let's remember it is in the name "diner". This is not a five star restaurant. The service is friendly, quick, and knowledgable. They were happy to answer questions and if a taste would help describe a sauce or dressing, so be it! The food was good solid fare at reasonable HHI prices. Be sure to check out the refrigerated desert cabinet near the register. See my pics for some examples. If you are on the Island be sure to give the Hilton Head Diner a visit and buy some coffee mugs to take home.

Went to Hilton Head for a wedding and ended up here late night both evenings. It was the only game in town so we didn't have much choice. I like that it was an available option that wasn't a Waffle House or Taco Bell. Normally the amount of boozing that had taken place could really sway my review and make me think that I had the best food in the world that evening, unfortunately this was not the case. Even drunk at 3 in the morning, the food was just okay... my friends agreed as well. It isn't terrible but I was hoping for amazing random diner when it was maybe a step above going to waffle house. Overall, I give them credit for being the only place open 24/7 and also for putting up with our shit and enjoying a few laughs with us. Especially when the same waitress ended up with our table for a second night in a row.

  • Sandy L.

This is a great restaurant if you're looking for a good home-cooked meal. Their menu is so big that it's hard to decide what to order. I especially like their stuffed green pepper meal. It was very good.

  • Paul C.

Stumbled upon the Hilton Head Diner while looking for a good brunch place that turned out to be closed ... Boy did we luck out! This diner is authentic and excellent ... Great brunch standards and innovative specials, plus friendly and efficient service. Never felt rushed. I'd give it 5 stars but the coffee rates a C. (Give a try to the Douwe Egbert coffee served at Hudson's!)

  • Keisha B.

just happens to be one of the few 24hrs restaurants on the island. I'll recommend dining here when all else fails or if you're having those late night munchies. Typical diner food with LOTS to chose from but you know it's safer to order breakfast.

    (2)
  • Tosha K.

The prices here are reasonible for the island, however the customer orientation leaves alot to be desired. My Dad had a fly in his drink, it took us forever to find the waitress, when she finally came and brought him another drink it was the wrong drink. Instead if taking the beverage off the bill like most places when you have a fly in your drink, we had to ask to speak to someone else to get it off. The food is okay, no major complaints, but they need better trained staff. I had one waitress tell me they only had turkey ham and no sliced turkey.....I turned to the menu and showed her the sliced turkey that I had had on a prior trip, and she said oh okay. Mediocre service. .... Be sure to bring a jacket because it is cold in this restaurant!

Food was very good but slightly pricey for quality which I dropped a star. Still very good spot.

While Hilton Head is always bustling in July, the Low Country is typically quiet and serene in December as it was when we opted for a quick and casual bite at this island main-stay after driving 4 hours over from Atlanta. We have dined here many times before and knew exactly what to expect - a generous-sized omelette full of tasty veggies. We were not disappointed. Nothing elaborate or surprising here. Good food at prices you would expect to pay at this "vacay" destination. Check out the chocolate-chip cookies at the cash register when paying your bill for a late night snack.

Stopped here with wife and two teenagers for lunch. Extensive menu provided us all with many choices. Fun clean atmosphere. Large portions. Fast friendly service. Economically delicious.

  • JA G.

Not much to say other than service and food is just bad! Food was undercooked as it came out way to soon. Servers had no personal skills and just rushed you.

    (1)
  • Xerxes N.

Not a bad spot to go for some ol' breakfast food. I had their big breakfast sampler: eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and a stack of pancakes. I wasn't expecting the world because it's a diner. Prices seem to be a little steep for a place like this though. I think because Hilton Head is a tourist area the higher prices can be justified. Decent food and decent service. No complaints.

    (3)
  • Claus D.

Come here at least once while on the island. Good is good price is right. service is consistent. Great for breakfast or a late night snack.

    (3)
  • Michelle L.

Good food, good service. Went for breakfast. It's nice that they are 24 hours, have liquor and beer, and serve breakfast 24 hours a day. The old diner feel is nice.

  • Cherise J.

In general, the yelp reviews of this place are pretty accurate. It's really is just OK. There's nothing spectacular about the service or the food. It's very average. I've gone a couple of times and have ordered different menu items and I wasn't too impressed. Most recently, I ordered the French onion soup and it was very bland. The chicken sandwich was bland also. I will say, however that this is a great late night spot if you just need to fill your belly. They have flexible hours and if you're hungry, they are easily accessible and convenient. The prices are also decent and the portions are reasonable.

    (3)
  • Janet L.

I should have heeded the warnings of previous reviewers. This place is dreadful. Bacon came out undercooked and wiggly. I asked if I could get bacon that was cooked more thoroughly. The waitress took my bacon to the kitchen and it was dropped in the deep fryer and brought back out. Home fries were burned and lacked any flavor. Portions were small and selections overpriced. $4 for a bowl of dry cereal. If you think the way I did, "you can't screw up breakfast at a breakfast place", you are wrong. Drive right by. Go to Stacks. Go to Dunkin Donuts. This place is a wreck.

    (1)
  • Nathaniel A.

this place is disgusting! we came here for dinner one night and we were very disappointed. from looking at the menu, it seemed like some of the best food on the island! we ordered all appetizers, chicken tenders, fries, spinach dip, and onion rings. the appetizers are the price for what regular entrees would be at a regular restaurant. the chicken tenders and fries were great! they are the reason this place has 2 stars. the onion rings were gross and spinach dip was extremely salty. for dessert we ordered the brownie sundae and a banana split. we were sitting where we could watch our server make our desserts. he did not wear gloves and was licking his fingers all the time! our server was also very rude. he barely checked on us. I would not go here again, but if you choose to go, then get the only thing good on their menu, the chicken tenders.

    (2)
  • Peyton C.

This place was ok. I got the spinach and artichoke dip which was decent but very salty. My friend ordered the chicken tenders and fries which was very good. Onion rings were disgusting. For dessert we ordered a banana split and a brownie sundae. The booth my friend and I were sitting at was right next to where the servers made the desserts. Our waiter did not wear any gloves, we saw him peel the banana that went on the banana split and almost lost our appetite because he was literally holding the peeled banana in his hand while talking to another employee. While he was putting chocolate syrup on the dessert he put his finger in the syrup and licked it, which my friend and I both saw as well. Then when we asked for the check my friend and I asked for our appetizer to be separated half way onto our checks and he got an attitude and said "that is impossible". Which it is not, my friend and I are both waitresses and do this all the time, all he had to do was ask a manager or another employee. I don't even know why I gave this place 2 stars, I will more than likely not go back. This place is overrated.

    (2)
  • Rachel R.

We came here because it was 11 pm and we needed dinner. We were seated immediately. The menu had plenty of options: my husband ate ribs (said they were delicious), my son ate turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and veggies (he gobbled it up without a word), my daughter ate a pita pizza with fries (said it was ok, but she's not much of a foodie) and I ate the blacked chicken pita with fries (it was super tasty...I ate it all)! Server was good! Price was expensive for what we ate, but we left satisfied and fed.

    (3)
  • Melissa S.

Bottom line: pretty brutal! Not only was the food not very good, but the service was terrible. The waitress was abrupt and unfriendly as was the woman at the register. And, the food, just very disappointing. Rubbery pancakes and the most bland, flavorless home fries. I mean, you have to really just put no effort in for breakfast to be that terrible. Will not be going back there.

Hilton Head Diner is good not great. The service was attentive, but the food was better at Stacks. The good news is that it is open 24 hours a day.

  • Andres A.

Great place and one of the few places still open after a night out drinking! The food is a lil pricy but the portions are great and perfect for sharing! Def a great spot to get food on the island. And the service was nice and quick

Best value on the island! Great atmosphere and reasonably priced dishes. Turkey and gravy dinner was excellent and reminded me of the old fashioned diners. Absolute stop for visitors!

This place gets a 4 only because of the service. The food is fantastic, but our waitress was kinda grouchy. I recommend the breakfast sampler!

My wife and two daughters had breakfast here and we thought the food was great! Our server was kind and greeted us with a smile We enjoyed it and the price was fine. 40 bucks for 4 and we were really full. Highly recommend!

Great service and overall good food it is a diner HUGE menu the chicken and biscuits was good they have like 6 different soups each day served in huge bowls if looking for a diner it as good as it comes

Decent California wrap, although a little on the greasy side. But, what did I expect from a diner?! I enjoyed it nonetheless. Good, quick service. I'd come back.

  • Justine S.

The food was good for a diner. My biggest problem was the wait staff. They had no clue how to take care of a large group. We waited for 30 minutes to get drinks. We were leaving after a wedding weekend and we really wanted to eat and run. I know group takes longer (I've been in the service industry for 14 years) but they had the same server taking care of two large groups. That's crazy. In my experience any group over 10-12 people needs to have more than 1 server. Let alone 1 server taking two groups at 15+ people per group!!! The servers there need to learn a little more about teamwork. Sometimes splitting a table will make them more than money than trying to wrangle it by themselves. People count the little things, like needing their water or sprite when they are hungover and waiting for 30 mins and then it never getting refilled again. Little did the server know that she was waiting on a table full of service industry people and doctors. Odd mix I know but both of those groups know how to tip, unfortunately she probably didn't make much more than about the automatic 18% gratuity. Sometimes its pays to ask for help.

  • Kelley M.

For a Diner, the menu was very diverse. I would guess that anyone could find at least one thing they would like to order. The food was good...diner quality. As others have said, this isn't a 5 star restaurant. Our service was good and it was very convenient that they are open 24 hours. We dropped by after watching the fireworks on the 4th, around 11pm, and the place was packed.

great milkshakes , the waitress provided fast customer service ; food could be better and so could prices. Took three tries to get the soda order right.

In many towns, a 24 hour diner that looks like this is a can't miss. This is a huge miss. It's OK if you find yourself liquored up at 3 a.m. and must have food instantly. Avoid at all other times. The menu is huge so maybe I've just picked the wrong items each time I've been there. Then again, everybody I know that lives here has a low opinion of the place. I hate it when I drive past there and see a line out the door during the day. Poor tourists have no idea what disappointment they are in for. This place is kind of like those Sno Ball cakes you can buy at the gas station -- looks great, tastes gross.

    (1)
  • Lelia H.

Maybe good for breakfast but definitely not dinner. The only thing worth eating was the popcorn shrimp and I am positive those were frozen and came out of a box.

Great coffee. Good service. Everything you can expect from a real diner. A nice change from the stuck up clientele that you can find on this overpriced golf resort island. Real people are here. Not fake white rich people.

    (5)
  • James T.

this place finally inspired me to get yelp. GROSS. Lets start with this, the staff to start off with wad incrdibly rude and stupid, it took forever to get 2 wraps that were just blah, and to top it all off the thief at the counter said there was some 10percent gratuity fee. i said id never heard of it and he yelled "You never heard of it!?" i told him i was not paying any of that as it wasnt on the menu, and eventually he took it off. what a thief as the food isnt good here dont waste your time.

  • Maia J.

Eggs, sausage, and bacon were good. However the pancakes weren't fresh, but tasted like they had been pre- made and warmed up. They were very tough to cut into and had a mildew taste to them. The hash browns were not good either. Love the island, but won't return to this establishment.

    (2)
  • Kathleen W.

Fast service, finely-tuned operation with happy, attentive servers and very good food. Enjoyed the spinach feta and scrambled egg wrap at our server's recommendation. Super fresh, even the tortilla seemed homemade. Not a fan of flat crispy bacon but that's the only criticism here.

Hello my fellow yelpers... it's me again. There are times I come in and out of a restaurant and have other things on my mind and never think to give a review however lately I've felt the need to get back on the consumer/customer service horse again and start back yelping what's out there. While on my road trip through Georgia I stopped through the Hilton head area when I noticed this old fashioned diner lit up like a Christmas tree on the side of the road and it so reminded me of the diners from back home up north that I decided to give it a try and if I had to describe my experience in one word it would be AMAZING !!!!!!! I'm not sure why any of my fellow yelpers that I read previous to me would give it such bad reviews and when I looked it up on yelp how in the world it only got 3 stars ? This place brought me back home and the food although not 5 star restaurant style (remember guys..it's a diner and they don't claim to be anything else) was extremely good and the portions left us having to unbutton our pants during the ride home. All I have to say about this place is this.... if you happen to pass this place and your from the northeast or even if your not and want to get a true taste and feel of a northeast style diner with great food and big portion sizes come check this place out... I would put it in the "who's who" in the diner biz... it's the definition of New York style diner to the "T". As always my fellow yelpers. ..eat...drink...and enjoy and this fellow yelper will see you on the dark side of that chocolate moon... in this life or the next.

Fresh brewed delish coffee gets a good vote in my book. Brownie cake is also very good. We typically just come here for breakfast when in town and it is good, efficient. Good "in and out" place. Haven't tried the lunch/dinner, so I can't comment in that.

  • Brendon T.

It's exactly the type of greasy spoon diner you want for breakfast. Eggs are greasy, coffee is excellent, cheesy souvenirs, and the best part - you can get a milkshake with breakfast! HHD is not the place to go if you're only on the island for a few days and want something for dinner. It really shines for breakfast, and that's about it. They recently had an update to the decor too. They took out all of the table-top juke boxes and tried to modernize the inside. Unfortunately, I think it back-fired a bit and definitely made the place a lot more generic. Which is exactly what you should expect from this place now, a generic, less than terrific, but satisfying breakfast.

Had a great breakfast (definitely try the pancakes); service was friendly and quick, prices are good too.

It wasn't bad, it just sounded better than it was. Homemade mashed potatoes? no, they weren't...straight from the box. London Broil was tough and covered in thick gravy. Soups needed seasoning. Greek salad had bottled Italian dressing on it. Rice pudding would have been good if the rice was cooked thoroughly. Kids liked milkshakes. Chicken Caesar wrap was good. Excellent service!

If I had to sum my two trips to this diner into one word it would be: YUCK! First time around, the food was alright. Service was sucky, seats were sticky. Second time around was the worst. We were first seated at a booth that was covered in soda, so we moved to one that was equally as dirty. Moving to another booth would have been pointless because they all looked like they hadn't been wiped down in a couple of days. When ordering food the waitress was quick to be rude. Waitresses here also hang towels off the side of their apron, and the towels frequently brush their hands while they are walking. Dirty hands + handling my food? Last, this diner seems like it prides itself on its breakfast, and the fact that they serve it 24/7. You would think that 1. The pancakes wouldn't be mushy & 2. There wouldn't be hairs baked right into the pancakes! Pulling a hair from your mouth after a bite into your pancake isn't how I wanted to start my day off. I will not recommend this diner to anyone, and I will not be coming back here.

We stopped off at Hilton Head Diner to grab a bite before leaving the area. The food was ok, the service was sub par, and to top it off, the owner is a pretentious, pompous, prick! He was so arrogant acting when we inquired about out ticket because our waitress was busy doing her "side work" according to the owner. It took about 20 minutes to get our food. My husband got the wrong order because the girl waiting on us didn't quite understand what menu item he wanted (even though he clearly stated what he wanted). She was sweet, but awkward because her foreign accent was difficult to understand. I have never experienced an owner of an establishment that was such an ass. DO NOT go to Hilton Head Diner.

Best of the three breakfast places I ate. My wife had the challah french toast. It was very good. Nice clean place too. Decent music. Nice wait staff.

First time here got some coffee with the stuffed French Toast which I thought was awesome!!! Thought I would get a little more for what I spent though little over priced :(

By far our worst dining experience on Hilton Head. We were seated quickly and were able to get our food in a timely manner. Also our drinks were filled on a regular basis so my problem is not with the service. The food on the other hand EW!!! My girlfriend and I both got the Texas Chicken Sandwich that came with chili nachos? They didn't even bother to melt the cheese on the nachos. I wasn't surprised at that point that my sandwich had the same problem. See my pictures. The sandwich was not very good and really did taste like some cafeteria food. Also the nachos were on Publix chips you can't fool us. Each meal was 10 dollars an outrage for what we got. I guess some people come here for the breakfast but late at night we were not in the breakfast mood. I hate to bash a place after just one visit. But it was so bad that I know for a fact I would never be back.I usually enjoy diners but this one really failed to deliver. Also be warned they have some sales dude at the door ready to bug you upon entering or exiting the diner. I will never buy a timeshare do I need to wear a shirt that says that? Seriously I don't even like the girl scouts bothering me for those cookies, and I actually like those cookies!

Love this place. Only place open all night and great food. Every time I went back I was more and more impressed. They have beer and liquor but not a big drink menu. Wraps, sandwiches, breakfast, and most importantly classic diner pies. Favorite items of the family from the menu include crab cake sandwich, BBQ pork sandwich and the key lime pie

So so food. Not bad, but also nothing special here. Fairly expensive for a meal that is basically Denny's or IHOP quality at best. Plenty of other better places in Hilton Head to try before this.

I went here for brunch in March and loved it! It was busy, so my friend and I sat at the breakfast bar and were provided with great service. We had stayed at the Days Inn, so it was easy to walk right over.

It's a diner, not a 5 star high priced restaurant. Friendly folks, good solid diner food, fair price. Gyros are very good, as are the burgers. Desserts are excellent and big.

Of all of the breakfast spots I have gone to in Bluffton and HHI this to me is what a diner is all about. As a side note: I LOVE breakfast, so I actively seek out breakfast eateries. When you walk in, there is plenty of seating booths, counter space if desired. Blue green carpets, sweltering hot coffee served in those indestructible, nondescript, manila mugs and spinning cakes behind glass enclosures, just like in NY, minus the carpets. Service is Very friendly and the food (for breakfast) comes out perfectly prepared and prompt. If your looking for the paper to read during breakfast, which I enjoy doing, they are hidden outside, almost behind the diner. Just ask for directions or bring your own.

Worse service we have experienced eating out since we moved here. Started with the Hostess, who obviously didn't want to be there. I had asked for a booth, she took us to a 4 top table. I asked is there a booth available, she turned, walked over to a booth and threw down our menus and walked away. Didn't say a word. Server was efficient, but did not smile or show any emotion at all. At checkout, again no smile, didn't ask how everything was, took my cc, handed me the receipt and did not say a word. I stood there for a moment, and she finally looked up and said, that's all, have a good day. Not one person we encountered said, thank you, or we appreciate your business or even smiled. There are way too many great breakfast restaurants in the area who truly appreciate your business to waste your time and money here. Start with the Sunrise Cafe.

Great grilled chicken in the Navajo wrap. Good service. HHI prices. Lunch was $24 with tip for 2 adults.

Apparently this place claims it's been redesigned with a new menu. Upon reading this we decided to go for breakfast. It didn't look redesigned, or look like it had changed it's menu. I had scrambled eggs, they were over done. Homefries not very flavorful. Coffee mediocre. We won't be returning. Stacks is much better for breakfast.

Amazing pastrami Reuben! Tasted like a real NYC one. Very good service. I'll definitely be back.

Good food...didn't like the veggies that came with the fisherman's platter. Thought it was a little expensive...$18 and change for the platter. The staff, overall, was friendly and the wait wasn't too long.

  • John W.

Food and service were both great. Better than the average diner food. I had the standard bacon cheeseburger, which was cooked perfectly, and the wife had the Hilton Head wrap, which was even better. Fries were nothing special, but they weren't bad either, just typical frozen fries.

    (4)

The service is excellent as are the hours. I had the Mac & cheese which was fine but not great. The fried chicken was good.

It is a "restaurant". It serves "food". We had breakfast on a Saturday morning. Probably not the best time to visit. It took a good ten minutes to get our coffee while we were serenaded with the dramatic screams of the unhappy toddler trio that peppered the atmosphere the duration of our meal. The two times we saw our waitress were lovely visits that made me miss her dearly every time I actually needed something, which was not frequent, but definitely more than twice. The food came out after a longer than average wait and arrived lukewarm, cold by the time I actually ate it. Perhaps it's my proximity to the 3rd most obese city in the states, but two pancakes and eggs does not a "big breakfast" make. It's possible that during a more unpopular time of day the service and atmosphere might be better, but overall I would avoid this place, there are other breakfast places around that are much better.

Do yourself a favor and skip this one. I saw the bad reviews here on yelp, but I thought "the kids are hungry, I'll give it a try" BIG mistake. I've had frozen food dinners that were better than the food we had here and the service was terrible. and note: if Yelpers say it's bad, believe them!

Quick, friendly, clean, big portions. Potato salad was warm and strange but everything else was up to par. Would recommend for a quick lunch or 24 hr spot.

So far the coffee is amazing and the service is swift. The bacon egg and cheese is major good and the pancakes are fluffy and good. The golf wall art break up the busy carpet and wall tile. Cobb salad was fresh and high class. Great time. Wait staff nice and quick, polite too.

The place is very clean and as of July 2013 seemed to have recently been renovated. The food was pretty good, I had a blue cheese burger that was solid. My family enjoyed their meals as well. The service was not very friendly and it felt like they were just going through the motions. A little on the pricey side...but you're in HHI.

This is a great diner it reminds me of the Diners in Queens

Mediocre service, mediocre typical greasy-spoon food. Atmosphere is that of an old-style diner. It's fine for a basic meal but not so if you want something a bit more unique.

    (2)
  • Jen S.

Came here for breakfast this morning while on vaca. What a disappointment. Mediocre at best very Denny's meets IHOP. Bland scrambled eggs or so that's what they called them. Bland under cooked hash browns. Heavy not light or fluffy pancake. Would not return.

  • Baruch M.

The only thing good is they are cheap and kids like it. Otherwise their service is really lacking both times we went and the food is so so at best. Their food is classic greasy diner, nothing to write about. The first time our server accused us of lying about not getting the soda we asked for and the dessert we ordered was not worth the money or the calories. It was an ice cold brownie that was so so, underneath a mountain of ice cream and cold sauces. If the brownie was hot, delicious and soft with warm sauces then it would have been awesome. The second time we went to get dessert the hostess struggled to find us a waiter at the counter because everyone was "too busy". The banana pudding is instant pudding with nothing else, and the key lime pie is more sugar and tart than lime. The wife and I come to Hilton Head every year and we will not eat here again.

Bland food. Overpriced. Plenty of better options around. And the pot roast taste like pork that had been sitting a long time. My family complained about it for a week.

We went last night because we were at the Pirate Golf next door, was 8 o'clock and we were hungry for a diner-y meal. We didn't see the reviews until after we sat down so our interest was piqued. Would this suck as bad as other people said? The answer is: no. Our server was pleasant enough and gave, well, decent service. We're not talking white glove service, peeps, it's a diner. But we didn't wait for a a table, didn't wait to be greeted and have our drink order taken and didn't wait long for food. I had the "southwestern breakfast wrap." Was it the best one I've ever had? No. Was it fine. Yes. Eggs, cheese, onion, ham and green pepper. I asked for my home fries to be crispy and guess what? They came out crispy. The ball and chain had a grilled cheese and it was as good as you get at a Jersey diner. Buttery, grilled bread, cheese, etc. A grilled cheese. Not too hard to mess up and they didn't mess up. No extra points for cooking an easy food but after the other reviews, worth pointing out. The offspring had silver dollar pancakes. She had two of the HEAPING plate of them. They were, well, decent pancakes. Again, sort of a no brainer. Bottom line: it's a diner. Busy in the morning. Not so busy in the evening. If you go and get diner food (breakfast, burgers, sandwiches) then you'll be fine. If you go looking for delicacies, then caveat emptor...cuz it's a diner, not an emporium.

A comfort food breakfast place. Lots of choices and a better breakfast than other choices. Full of elderly people. Food is average. Daughter got the cherry compote on her pancakes. More syrup than fruit, sickly sweet. Enormous portions. Not my top choice on the island but clean, friendly and serviceable.

Not even good diner food! My fiancé thought his sandwich was decent, but my burger was SO dry I only took one bite before I sent it back!!! The service doesn't make it any better, so steer clear of this place while you're on vacation!

  • Joe D.

I have tried to give this place a second and third chance, but now I'm done! TERRIBLE FOOD!! it tastes frozen, terrible service!! They seem to think that you owe them for coming in, and ownership or management seem to hover over you, as if they want you out as soon as you Get in ( I can hear my mother in laws favorite quote,( " here's your hat! What's your hurry?") bye bye Hilton Head Diner

Service was not extraordinary and neither was the food. AVOID if you are looking for a great dining experience. GO if you're looking for average food or a par meal after staying up drinking.

Our first mistake here was coming here. Any establishment with the words "diner restaurant" should probably be avoided. The service here was extremely slow even though there was only a few other patrons at the time. I can see now why no one was eating there. I had a fairly gross portabello sandwich. It tasted like someone spilled salt and vinger onto my sandwich. The bread was drenched and soggy. My friend had the pancakes, they were ok, but pancakes in general are difficult to screw up.

  • John D.

Why does this place only get two stars? I'm more than happy to give it 5 stars for the food, prices, atmosphere and service. All were top notch and undeserving of a 2 star rating. I love the tacky decor and it is very fitting for a roadside diner. Our server was incredibly attentive and was fun to talk with. I would never hesitate to come back here.

This place was great. The food and service was top notch. This is what all diner experiences should be. I go there every time I visit Hilton Head.

Ok, so it is a diner. A modern diner, with classic diner decor. But it has GREAT food (and by "great" I mean with healthy alternatives) and incredibly cheap. Lunch for 5 was $35. Very friendly staff.

Good cheeseburger (very high quality beef). Good hashbrowns (instead of french fries -- not greasy). No problems with service except for having to forage for mustard (waitress didn't bother to ask).

The quintessential Hilton Head experience (e.g., bland, uninspired and overpriced food, lethargic service), with two fun bonuses: * We saw a cockroach crawling all over a blender at near the register, which, being a highly visible area, made us wonder what crawled around in less visible areas. *A creepy older redneck couple in tank tops that sat outside the restaurant and chainsmoked while they waited for guests to leave so they could promote some kind of real estate pitch. As we left, we were pestered all the way to our car ("We'll give you a $100!" "We'll give you a free cruise!"). Classy. Exactly the way I like to enter into real estate negotiations.

It was rather busy when we went, but that doesn't make up for the poor service that we experienced today. This was my first time at the HHI Diner. It seemed like a nice place to eat, but it did not meet my expectations. As we were walking over to our table, they were still cleaning it. The dirty dishes bucket was put on a seat and when it was removed, the seat was soaking wet. The table was also very wet and we were forced to clean it and the seat with the napkins that were wrapped around the silverware. Our waitress failed in keeping my father's coffee cup filled and when she did come over, she would only fill it up half the way. She would ask how we were doing and then walk away before we were even able to answer. I had the french toast, which was okay, but the grits were very watery. Let's just say, that I will not be coming back. When you come down to the south, you would at least hope to get some decent grits :'(

  • Yngwie M.

We thought it was pretty good. Not too crowded. Kid friendly. Wife and kids had pancakes, and enjoyed them. I had a bowl of chili and the hamburger steak. Everything was good. Maybe our expectations weren't that high (hey, it's a diner), but nothing was bad. I'd go again.

  • Natasha I.

We went here for breakfast one day on our vacation, and the food was very impressive for the price. Our waitress wasn't very good at anything, but the cooks surely know what they are doing. Don't just drive by this place! Be sure to stop and have some AMAZING french toast!

This place is the WORST!!! First off our waitress "Maggie" kept forgetting to get us things like drinks, plates, straws etc etc.... my husband asked if they can make him a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and Maggie said yes. When it came she gave him a BLT with cheese! He explained to her again that he would like a bacon, egg and cheese. So she leaves for about 15-20 minutes and get this comes back with the SAME EXACT sandwich with an egg on it!!!! Needless to say my husband did not eat and just ended up sharing with me. Then we told her we would like more coffee - 10 minutes later she comes back (with no coffee) and says "do you want more coffee" LOL this place is ridiculous! Also, the prices here are also VERY high for what you get, It was extremely hot in the restaurant and the Juke boxes did not work right (it ate like $2 worth of quarters). Food is average and everything was room temp. BAD SERVICE - AVOID!!!! TOURIST TRAP!

  • Rob O.

I've had a couple of experiences with this place -- one ok and the other better than ok. I can't recommend food other than breakfast food because the time we ordered dinner food, e.g. steaks, pasta, etc., it wasn't good. Very bland and something I could probably buy from the grocery store frozen and heat up. The breakfast food we ordered on our second visit was decent and worth recommending. Comparable to IHOP or some other similar breakfast joint. Better than Mickey D's but not as good as a greasy spoon that specializes in breakfasts.
