Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Excellent food! I 'm from Cranford New Jersey and am used to great Italian food. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was cooked with a balsamic reduction with sausage. It was outstanding. My husband ordered the veal chop with prosciutto, mozzarella and peas in a sherry sauce, again absolutely outstanding! I ordered the grouper with olives, artichokes and diced tomatoes, again outstanding. These were all specials. For dessert we had Flora's award winning tiara misu and we're not disappointed. Service was terrific! I visited this restaurant two years ago and will visit again! Can't say enough about how good the food is here!

We had a very enjoyable evening here. It is in a step center, back corner. You walk in and after warmly greeted. The food was excellent. The process reasonable. Martinis were excellent. Highly recommended. Prices reasonable for quality.

5 stars.. Never have I given a restaurant 5 stars.. This is a great place to be and I sincerely mean it

I will definitely return! The service was excellent. They serve fresh bread served with olive oil. It was very tasty. We got the calamari with sausage in a balsamic reduction as an appetizer. The sausage was amazing. Would definitely get it again. I got the tuna with spinach for my entree . Also very good. I got the chocolate mousse cake for dessert, again it was good. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal including my 22 month old son!

When visiting the beach we always think of seafood, but the concierge at our hotel recommended that we give this place a try, and I'm glad we did. I very seldom write reviews, but the staff and quality of the food earned it. We eat Italian food very often, but this was the best Italian food that we have ever eaten. We started out with the calamari appetizer and it was unlike we have ever had, even my boys loved it. All of our entrees were delicious and the "award winning" tiramusi was absolutely amazing. You will leave with a smile on your face.

The door was hard to pull, and at first, we thought the place was closed because of it! Luckily, they gestured us inside. Food was phenomenal. Fresh bread. Delicious French onion soup. Vinaigrette on salad was wonderful. I had the ravioli asparagi, which I loved. Our entire table was raving about our meal for hours later. Desserts made by Flora herself were delightful. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was attentive and kind. At one point, there were three staff members trying to help our four person table get everything we needed. One of the best meals I've had on Hilton Head. Couldn't recommend this place more!

What a fantastic gem of a restaurant this is! Just off of William Hilton Hwy in a nondescript corner of a strip mall, this restaurant boasts the most understated atmosphere for a fantastic Italian restaurant in which I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Given the others in attendance on Friday night, this is definitely a locals hangout and boy do they know where to find a great meal. Dinner started with the small but mighty wine list that will pair just about anything you would possibly order on the menu. You won't have your choice of 10 different Malbecs and a dozen Gavis but the choices they have were all on the mark with out the pretentious sirens going off. We started with the calamari special, which was flash fried and tossed in a balsamic red pepper flake sauce..with sausage. You're probably thinking, "Say what?" but I'm telling you it totally worked. I'd make the suggestion to add some chopped parsley to the chef since it visually is just a big plate of brown but the taste was on point. We also had the beef carpaccio and this was the one thing off the mark. The meat was served way too cold (I tasted ice crystals) with very little seasoning. It also didn't seem that the meat was spice prepped before slicing so while the meat was definitely high quality, the dish needed some more elements to bring it alive. The main courses were totally inspired. The Gamberi di Casa had one of the best red sauces I've ever tasted, including anything from Boston's North End to Rome, Italy. The homemade pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and there was just the right ratio of noddles to sauce to shrimp and sausage. The large shrimp were cooked to a "T", suggesting the chef started with fresh shrimp to capture all the complex flavor of the sauce. A little hit of fresh grated Parmesan Regianno added just another level of flavor depth to the sauce without overpowering. The other main course was a pork chop special that was sublime and substantial. Two perfectly cooked bone-in pork chops were smothered in a beautifully rich demi with fresh sliced portobello mushrooms layered on top. On the side was a side of spaghetti and pesto that was meant to be the "and" part of the dish but could have equally held its own as a stand alone primi. Way more than any one person could eat and each component was perfectly composed on the plate. For dessert, we had both the Tiramisu and the layered sponge cake. Both were classic interpretations but once again, the execution was impeccable. Add to that the fact that they poured the perfect double espresso (so, so hard to find anymore) with dessert that I was/am still blown away by this hidden oasis. Oh, and service? Flawless. I'm not kidding...flawless. Think you can't find a good meal somewhere between fast casual/chain and ultra-artistic, fine dining on HHI? This Italian gem proves otherwise...

Flora's is located in a small, unassuming strip mall about mid-island. You have to be looking for it to find it. Like many treasures in HHI, don't judge a book by it's cover! Good food, nice wines, intimate setting. Service was stellar from our waitress to our bus lady. Bread Service at tables. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals and would order them again. Only notes- the only salad dressing offered is Balsamic Vinaigrette. The dressing was delicious to me, but not everyone likes Balsamic. I saw at least three tables with children on my visit.

Great food and Great service. Ask for Karen! The veal franchise and the balsamic dressing is awesome.

Very good food. We have eaten there several times and bragged about them to friends of ours who joined us in HH. This time however, once we told the waiter we were not going to order drinks he saw his tip go down and from then on was openly rude and inattentive. I asked him how a dish was cooked and he was very condescending. Isn't that his job? If a waiter can't be professional and polite, what good is he? Fortunately it was the the only bad part of an otherwise wonderful meal and the manager appreciated us mentioning the issue with the waiter. If we go back there again hopefully that guy will be gone. What a jerk!

My family and I visited floras tonight and it was amazing. I had the veal special which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My family got everything from lamb chops to other pasta creations. All of them were excellent. To top off the meal we had house made tiramisu, vanilla tort cake and key lime pie which flora makes all in house. Extremely good desserts. We love Hilton head and will be back every time we vacation here. Great food great owners and chef. Just down right good

Classy little Italian spot on HHI. We've been talking about going back since the minute we left-- a year ago. Fried Mozzarella Marinara appetizer is delicious, mixed greens salad with balsamic is light and crisp. Went with 3 adults and a 13 year old, could be okay for well-behaved kids. Cheese ravioli, veal and chicken dishes enjoyed by those who ordered them. Open only for dinner!

Look no further if you are fan of great Italian food, a wonderful family to serve it and an outstanding wait staff. Try the Calamari and slices of sausage with Balsamic reduction because you will eat it again and again. Their classic Italian dishes will thrill you pallet because they are delicious. Flora makes all her own deserts daily and the woman is a baking genius. You will enjoy the atmosphere, the service, the family feeling, and the excellent service and relating from Bronco or Karen. You can pay more but you will not have a better meal or a better time dining.
(5)Tammy S.
Outstanding. Excellent food and service at a reasonable price. Rare in a resort area. Will visit again before we leave.
(5)Norman G.
Great family-owned restaurant for great Italian. All four in our party enjoyed our respective appetizers and dinners. Save room for the peanut butter pie.
(4)Regina S.
Wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars, but the service was extremely slow. However, we dined there with family and everyone loved their choices. The Grouper dish was world class!!! We will definitely dine at Flora's again.
(4)Dave D.
Great deserts and atmosphere ... Great conversation with the proprietors. Will have to go back for a meal soon

This restaurant was recommended to me by a year round resident of Hilton Head and it did not disappoint. The Italian food here is of the high quality that we expect to find back home in NJ. We had Chicken Marsala, a veal dish, ravioli, and a kids chicken finger dinner. Soup and salads to start were very good. the desserts were also very good. Don't settle for mediocre food...this place comes highly recommended. Only negative thing I can think to say is that the restaurant in the back of a small group of stores so it may be difficult to find without a GPS.

After a recommendation from a local merchant my wife and I decided to try a dinner here while on the island for vacation. This is a top shelf place in ever sense of the word. The decor was nice and service was great throughout the dinner. We both really enjoyed the dinner and even splurged for some of Flora's famous deserts and Flora even stopped by and talked to us during dinner. If you like northern italian style dining this is a must try on HHI

We have visited Hilton Head Island at least once a year for the past 8 years so we've pretty much eaten at every restaurant on the island. HH has some of the best places to eat and the actual food at Floras wasn't horrible but the service certainly was. I'll try to make this short... I ordered a Palm salad for $9.95 and the appetizer Melanzane Rolantine for $8.95 as my entrée. The waitress informed me that the appetizer was only two pieces of eggplant and "not enough food for dinner." I responded saying that I don't have a big appetite and that two pieces of eggplant, along with the salad, would be plenty. She then said that she could upgrade the appetizer to an entrée size which I then, again, clearly stated was NOT necessary because the appetizer size would be plenty. Well, 15ish minutes later, after our salads, our food comes out and guess what? She decided that I did indeed need the entrée sized meal which included three pieces eggplant and nothing else. We were out with another couple so I didn't want to start anything and figured how much could they possibly charge for the third piece, so I just went ahead and started eating. Anyway, I ate, surprise!, two pieces of eggplant and was full. My husband, who was also full after his meal but didn't want to waste food, ate the third piece. Then we got the bill. I was charged $21.00!!!!! for my meal, or an extra $12, for a single piece of eggplant that I didn't order and didn't want. Again, we were out with another couple and I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable and ask for the manager so we paid the bill. Yeah, go ahead and call me cheap, but I was annoyed. BUT THEN.... After we paid I went to the ladies room. On the way out I walked past the bar towards the front door and, I swear to G*d, I saw our waitress take a drink out of a glass of wine from a serving tray that she proceeded to take to a table. I am not kidding. She took a drink out of a customers glass of wine!!! Nope. We will be back on the island next year but defiantly will NOT be returning to Floras.

Mixed experience here. We were greeted by a rather brusque hostess, who seemed annoyed that we both had no reservation (even though it was only 5pm, and there were only two other tables occupied) and that we asked for a booster seat for our 2 year old son. The wait staff, too, were mixed in attitude. Our main waitress was wonderful - she mentioned items for a kids menu, even though they were not printed, and asked if we wanted our son's food at the same time as ours, or as soon as possible (which, as any parent knows, is a wonderfully thoughtful thing to do!). To counter that, the bus-girl seemed annoyed whenever she had to fill our water - and when she asked if there was anything she could get us, and I asked for a drink - she seemed put out and said she would have to tell our waitress. However, the general attitude of the staff was nearly countered by the amazing food! The house balsamic dressing was delicious, and was an amazing start to the meal. My wife and I had the veal, in two different variations - and my only complaint is that I couldn't eat both plates myself - some of the finest Italian I have ever tasted. My son's cheese ravioli was a both a hit with him and the small portion he shared with his parents was well enjoyed too.

My friend and I where in hilton head recently to play golf. Someone on the course recommended this place and we weren't disappointed. This is a small family owned and run Italian restaurant where the mother is the hostess and dessert chef, the father cooks all the dishes, and the son waits the tables. They are originally from Romania, lived in New Jersy, and eventually settled in Hilton Head. We started with a wine and didn't know which one to chose so we were brought several sample glasses to try before our dinner. This is always a nice gesture. The daily specials are good choices and the menu has a wide variety of food. I had a calamari appetizer in balsalmic vineger. It was portioned well and the squid was very tender. I had a veal dish and my friend had the fish special. The veal was much better than dishes I have had at other restaurants. You can tell that they buy higher quality veal than other restaurants because of the flavor. Often times restaurants overcook veal and it comes out chewy. Flora cooks it correctly and it was done perfectly. My friends fish dish was also well prepared and seasoned with the right touch. The vegetables that came with the dishes were flavorful and were not overcooked. The desserts are all homemade and we had the chocolate and peanut butter pie. This was a great choice and was an award winner in New Jersey. A few days later we golfed 2 hours away in Kiawah. We drove all the way back to eat here again. They had an appetizer of homemade meatballs, but I only wanted to try one so they let me do it as an appetizer. I also had a snail appetizer. One thing nice about a family run restaurant is that they cook everything to order, so if you want the dish without a certain ingrediant, they can make it for you. I had a nice pasta dish and my friend got the veal this time. They were both winners again. This is a hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone travelling in the area!!

What a terrific find in Hilton Head. Being from NJ, we found this NJ transplanted Italian restaurant. Flora and her family moved to HH from Clifton, NJ a couple towns over from us. This is REAL NJ style italian food. We started with the House salad which has a home made balsamic dressing which was very good. The bread is baked by Flora's husband who is also the chef and we met after dinner. It is a very good sourdough bread. For our entrees, we both had veal dishes. My wife had the veal milanese which was delicious and was served with a side of corkscrew pasta in an excellent marinara sauce. I had Veal Parmigiana which wasn't on the menu but was gladly made for me. It was served with home made linguini and the same delicious marinara sauce (see picture I posted). It was as good as any veal parm I've had in NY/ NJ. You must have dessert here. All the desserts are home made by Flora and even though the waitress told us her tiramisu has won awards, we opted for the Cannoli. What a great choice! It has a slight chocolate flavor in the rich ricotta filling with lots of chocolate chips. Flora told us after that she also using Galliano in the filling. It was awesome! The whole experience at this hidden gem was great! This place is not one of the "high profile" restaurants that the concierge or others around HH talk about much, but it is great and should be tried. Thanks to some of the great reviews on YELP we decided to give it a try and we were NOT disappointed! Enjoy.

We had a truly outstanding dinner there last night. My wife had excellent linguine with clam sauce and I had their corkscrew pasta that was amazing. Best Italian food for a long time. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Service was great.

Great meal! We each had different special of the day and were extremely pleased with our choices.Service was very attentive and personal. Authentic Italian cuisine in the heart of Hilton Head. A memorable meal.

You should not miss a meal at Flora's. We had a marvelous veal with brandy cream sauce - Fettini do Vitello Abigail - incredible!! Save room for dessert- the best chocolate martinis ever!!! If you are looking for the best - go to Floras!!
(5)Dawn T.
Found this lovely restaurant on Yelp and loved it. Visited off season on a Saturday night and decided to sit at the bar rather than wait for a table. We had one of the evenings special appetizers- balsamic calamari, and an assortment of entrees and salads. Everything was lovely - served quickly and piping hot. Finished our evening with the homemade tiramisu....delizioso! We ended up being the last clients of the night and got to chat with the owners. They're a delightful family that clearly love the business and what they're doing. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We'll definitely visit again!
(4)Tess S.
This restaurant is way underrated and overlooked on Hilton Head and that is a shame. The food is delicious and the service is extremely attentive. The only negatives I can offer is that it is a bit hidden in a strip mall, and the decor could use some updating. Other than that, go and enjoy!
(4)Frank M.
Great food, great desserts, great service. Nothing bad to say about this place. This was our best dining experience in Hilton Head ever.
(5)Brian W.
Excellent Italian food, and good all around. We had full course for Thanksgiving dinner: appetizers, salads, meal and desserts. My family had steak, chicken, turkey, seafood and pasta, all were very good and made to order, such as replacing veal with chicken. They were busy with several large groups there, but still good service. Great for families and large groups. Prices reasonable for quality and quantity. Beer selection limited, but I had an Italian beer, which I liked.
(4)Gary P.
Terrific Italian food on Hilton Head Island. Great service and specials. Watch for early bird and summer special menu. Excellent for couples, families and big groups.
(5)Kathy S.
Great food, great service. Try the calamari special - the honey balsamic spicy sauce was out of this world.
