Alas, there is not exactly a direct route from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach - meaning that you can't hop on the interstate and arrive some fixed time later. You will end up taking a side road at some point, whether you drive 74 for a while and drop down, take 26 and head up or just go back roads the whole way. On one particular ride, we decided to follow a route that took us on the curiously named Bobo Newsom Highway. I mean seriously - how could you resist? To make matters more interesting, it was a Sunday. It might have even been a holiday weekend, and if Sunday wasn't bad enough, a holiday Sunday meant that nothing was open, so by the time we came upon Westwood, we would have gnawed at the cinder block building. Luckily, they offer a lovely buffet that is open not only on Sunday, but on holiday Sundays as well, so we didn't have to do so. To make things better, they include a glass of some sweet tea with it. Score. The buffet isn't big - it's just spread out over the counter next to the kitchen, which means they can keep it well-stocked. You get a couple kinds of barbecue, some ribs and some chicken, along with a few veggies, sides and at least a couple of desserts. But what it lacks for in size it makes up for in taste. The ribs didn't especially impress me. The barbecue was good, but perhaps not the best, but definitely not bad. The sides really took things to another level. But that chicken? Holy crap. This was a barbecued chicken that was unbelievable. I don't know what they do to it, but it was amazing. I was thinking about that chicken all the way home. Staff at Westwood is equal to the buffet, and every bit as friendly as you would think. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.

Small but good buffet. There is a nice selection of meats and veggies. Fried chicken, liver hash, both vinegar and mustard bbq, sweet potato casserole, hush puppies, fried chicken livers and gizzards, corn on the cob, green beans, and more. $7.95 lunch $ 9.95 dinner includes tax and drink. Great value and friendly staff.

Country style all you can eat buffet. two styles of pulled pork (mustard and vinegar), BBQ chicken, spare ribs and all the side items to go with it. Best time to go is before 5pm to get a few bucks off the buffet. A must try.

With relatives down from the north we decided travel over and meet them in Hartsville and give them some good southern BBQ. From most of the yelp reviews here we thought Westwood would be a good place to try. There were a few customers when we arrived which quickly grew to a sizable crowd. They had a fairly good selection to choose from. The highlights of the meal were the homemade banana pudding, the chicken and dumplings, cook cabbage and one tasty moist hushpuppy. Our server was great, always checking in to keep our glasses full. Since their Facebook page indicates they operate only Thursday to Sunday we arrived early on Thursday evening for their buffet dinner and we were kinda expecting to see a great spread of freshly cooked meats resulting from a long night of smoking meat. Now the 2 types of pulled pork, hash and sides were good but unfortunately the other meats: chicken both fried and grilled were very dried out and over-cooked. I tried some ribs and one was brittle and dry and I went back specifically looking for some moist ones and ended up with a nice moist rubbery chew toy that I couldn't bite the meat off the bone. I decided to try some fried liver and gizzards and they were very dry crispy chunks of dried something. Most of the fried foods were so overcooked we thought maybe they were left overs that they simply re-fried in oil and put out at the beginning of this weeks buffet. I went to try the banana pudding and saw they had some new hushpuppies out so I grab one and it was one of the best hushpuppies I've had in a long while so I know they can cook some good ones. It was such a shame that they allowed such poor quality food to be put out on the buffet. I mentioned it to several staff members and one said she just mans the till and has nothing to do with the food and I saw one of the cooks and told them about the issues and they said that they only cook the sides and then asked me how I thought they were and when I told them they were good they were please to know that. When I specifically mentioned about the bad quality (dried up) food and why it was being served like that they said "well it is a buffet" and "we do seem to always have a good crowd". It wasn't just a piece here or there but basically all the fried food was dried out. I saw what looked like better pieces coming out later but by then we had all filled up on sides. I've eaten BBQ buffets at Little Pigs and Hudsons in the Columbia area and if you want good BBQ I would suggest skipping Westwood and check out someplace else. (or at least skip arriving early on Thursday night) One member was a celiac patients and asked to be able to order off the menu but was told there was no way to ensure there was no cross contamination so she just watch us and dranks some sweet tea

The barbecue at Westwood is outstanding. The service is fast and courteous, and the buffet is excellent as well.

Really friendly service. I went after the lunch rush on a Friday so it was quiet. They offered to let me sample the food before I ordered. The food was really great. Mac n Cheese was excellent. BBQ pulled pork was available in two styles: Vinegar based sauce and Mustard based. I prefer the mustard base. It was awesome. It also traveled extremely well. I didn't get to eat it fresh and it was still amazing. Best BBQ in the area by far. Too bad their hours are only Thursday-Sunday

Not what I expected in a BBQ place. First I got a platter which had rice. What kind of BBQ place serves rice with BBQ. They really didn't have a BBQ sauce. Oh they didn't have CORN BREAD. They had hush puppies which were overcooked the BBQ was just ok the rice had some type of gravy on it not so good. The banana pudding wasn't homemade. Didnt make me feel like it was a BBQ place Terrible not worth a visit

WOW! Returning from a golf weekend in Myrtle Beach I expected to drop in, get a quick bbq sandwich and get back on the road. There's that and regular menu service but what I found was an all you can eat southern style feast that took me back to my childhood. Field peas, Lima beans, amazing fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and yes...bbq. I left totally satisfied but knowing the next week would need to be salads, veggies and proteins...and a LOT of exercise. Go and go hungry!
