Our favorite sushi place in Greenville is Irashiai off Pelham, but if we feel like coming downtown, this is where we'll come. Rolls are a tad on the small side, but there is a nice variety and they taste very good. My favorites are the Greenville, Hawaiian and the Heart Breaker. My wife likes the Seabuddy Roll. 10% discount for teachers with ID, which is a bonus!

It is absolutely delicious food. The only thing that sucks sometimes is the little details that have to do with customer service. There is no doubt that the food will never be disappointing. I get the red dragon and the calamari roll! It is always great and usually pretty busy. Great place. I strongly recommend it!

My family went for dinner this evening and as we were walking to our table a group of servers were gossiping and cursing about another employee. Almost walked out but stayed and noticed the restaurant is dingy and kind of a college bar atmosphere! Food was very good but pricey, all dinners came out different times. Bar drinks costly, not sure if we will go back.

My wife and I might be the most difficult sushi customers ever due to her wheat allergy in conjunction with my shellfish allergy. The staff here was phenomenal, taking extra care to ensure that our different needs were met. The selection was excellent with plenty of options for both of us. The presentation of each roll was beautiful, and the taste was exquisite. We will definitely be returning in the near future to explore the menu further.

Best sushi in Greenville, especially when you consider the ambiance. Great place for eating at the bar, or taking a date. 5 stars. Oh, and the mussels are always perfect.

My husband and I have been sitting here for 20 minutes and no one has even taken our drink orders. Several servers walk by our table regularly and no one is offering to help. The food is good here but the service is deplorable. Not worth it to eat here.

The times I've been here at Tsunami the food would good. Service wasn't but it was a busy Saturday night. I would go back.

Stop drop roll is freaking amazing however, my gripe for this review is the server shorted us our change in coins, and it was more than 50 cents. This is the second time this has happened and as I write this, it happened just two days ago at another restaurant. I don't know why they feel like it's ok not to bring us the exact change but keep doing it bc ur tip is reduced to nothing bc of being sneaky. Completely unethical and disgusting practice.

More TVs than sushi. We buoyantly strood into Tsunami on a Tuesday night. We were out, on a Tuesday, in downtown, feeling like we were back in our 20's. Oh, the joys of being young, IT'S A WEEK NIGHT FOR GOD'S SAKE! We had been to Tsunami before and weren't really impressed. BUT, let's give it another shot, maybe it was just a bad night, we thought. And....we were wrong. First, the staff here is never friendly or unfriendly. It's like they're stuck in between, sort of indifferent, like zombies stuck in sushi bar, destined to always be surrounded by fish. They tried to seat us at a table right in the middle of this huge doorwar, that every has to walk through. Why? Why would even put a table there. I felt more exposed than Janet Jackson during a Super Bowl halftime performance. We politely asked to be moved, maybe to the back room, the hostess just blankly stared, so we asked for a table against a wall, about 5 feet away. There were others sitting at close tables but they (staff) acted like it was an inconvenience. Sorry brah, I just can't be out here like this. The atmosphere here is just confusing. They have low intimate lighting with cool, backlit wall features. And then they have TV's, EVERYWHERE! Small TV's, big TV's, TV's at tables, TV's on walls, everywhere. Sometimes you just want to unplug you know, actually have a conversation with someone, and not have a screen in your face. Here, that's not goint to happen. Before you start thinking it, I'm well aware that we were in the Bar area. We've been sat there, not by choice, the last two times we went. Please see above paragraph. Back to the meal...SO MANY CHOICES. Which sometimes is a good thing, but when you have a full menu, and 50+ sushi rolls to choose from, you need time, TIME I tell you. Finally I went with the Red Dragon roll. It's spicey tuna rolled up with a fresh slice of tuna on top. I would rate the roll itself a 6 out of 10. I didn't NOT like it, but I didn't leave there saying "I must have this again." The sauce was really the only thing that gave it a semi-good flavor. The tuna on top was slightly on the verge of being slimmy. Again, like the staff, it was as if the sushi was indifferent. As I write this, I realize, the whole place is indifferent. It's not really a sports bar, even though that's what is on the TV's, it's not really a fine sushi place even though the lighting trys to make you think so, it's not bad, it's not great, it's just indifferent. We both got a roll and a beverage, and we were left wanting. "Left wanting"? Did I just go there, like this is some paperback romance novel? Uhhh, yea, yea I did. We were halfway through our rolls when we decided we were probably going to stop on the way home for a burger. In parting, I leave you with the oh so wise words of Mr Miyagi: "In Okinawa, all Miyagi know two things: fish and karate." Tsumani may know a little about fish and a little about sports, but still,, my opinion is indifferent.

We were a party of 5. We each got our food at different times, not right after another, but at least 10-15 minutes apart. As a family, we refused to eat without all of us having our food there on the table at the same time to enjoy after saying grace. We weren't able to eat together because our food came out at such random different times. It made everyone at the table uncomfortable, and by the time we all had our food, most of it was cold and soggy. Service was horrible. The wait staff had no class and seemed bitter and immature. If you're trying to impress a date or especially trying to accommodate a group larger than 4, avoid this place. On the other hand, the Hibachi vegetables were very tasty!

The sushi here was GREAT! The prices were awesome. I couldnt believe the amount of food we got with a large saki, mussels appetizer, 3 rolls and my friend had 2 beers. The bill was like $40. The ambiance is awesome. The service was excellent! What a great place...these people do it right!!!

Best sushi I've had in Greenville so far. I go about once a week. There have been a few times where the server has not been very pleasant though.... But that can happen just about anywhere

Showed up with a big group (8). Atmosphere was simple. Nothing really stood out. was not overly impressed with the sushi when it arrived. Server was very friendly and did a great job with a smile and polite interaction. I need to go again. I feel that I should give them another chance to compile a more accurate review.

Tsunami is on of our regular go to places in Greenville to have a good time over good food and drinks. The restaurant has a good vibe, with inviting open space but not too open as to make it feel empty. It's always had a good crowd when I have been, but that has never kept us from getting great service. We usually start out with a large hot sake, which always gets us all started off right, as well as the baked mussels. These mussels are fantastic and the presentation is good as well. They come circling a small heap of fine chopped lettuce, and the mussels are topped with spicy mayo. We have to get at least one order, as well as other appetizers to share with the group, but the mussels steal the show every time. I've enjoyed every sushi roll I've had there, but there is one that I look forward to getting every time I go. The "Stop, Drop, and Roll" is one of the best tasting rolls I've ever had. The roll itself has tempura fried shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese, but it's topped with eel and some kind of "special sauce". It's brought out wrapped in tin foil, and then set on fire for a few minutes and cooks the roll. I know that it's technically not sushi after that, but damn, it is too tasty to not try. Combining good food, good service, good drinks, and good friends, and I've always had a jammin' time at Tsunami in Greenville. Check it out!

This is my favorite sushi in Greenville and bonus: it's in a great location. It can be pretty crowded on the weekends so if you're coming with a party definitely call ahead. I recommend the paladin, sweet potato and chicken tempura rolls. Mayyyyybe not their lightest fare but definitely crowd pleasers. I respect a place that can turn sushi into my idea of comfort food. There are a lot of options on the menu if you're not a sushi fan...definitely something for everyone here. If you have to wait on a table, you may wanna hit up the bar while you're waiting. Four words: Long Island iced tea.

Tsunami's is the best sushi in Greenville. Consistent quality and service with a great atmosphere. The only thing that could be improved is the rather limited wine list

  • Julie Y.

I have had lots of sushi...Tsunami is probably one of my favorite places to go! I love the atmosphere!!! Atmosphere is great, staff is great and the sushi is amazing!!! Every time my family and I go to tsunami we are politely greeted and the manager always says "hi", asks how we are doing and brings us a bowel of edamame. We make it a habit to say "hi" to her each time we come in. The first few times we went we spent the evening talking to two sushi chefs. It was an unforgettable evening! Whenever we have friends or family visit us from out of town we ALWAYS take them here! LOVE IT!!! The specialty rolls are amazing and the service has always been outstanding!

Decent sushi, but there is other places downtown that I prefer. The service took a while but the waitress was great to make sure we were being taken care of

This is a great place to run into people downtown and have a drink. The atmosphere is best for that, I think. I didn't try too many of their rolls-- a lot of them had cream cheese, mayonnaise or unagi sauce. People always tell me, "leave off the sauce." I don't typically believe in that. It's like telling a chef to put his creativity back in the pickle jar, no? I understand that food is made for a demographic and lots of people enjoy these sauces. That's cool, I'll stick to sushi and sashimi. Everything was fresh and cut nicely. There's not much variety or creativity as far as their small plates. Other sushi bars beat them out this this arena. To me, this is a place to meet, have a snack, and move on. Especially since it transforms into a old-school disco later in the evening. I'm all about people-watching, but I've discovered that I can take only a certain amount of "oh-geez-please-don't-do-that-girl" full-body cringing.

This place has gone completely down hill since 2007. Service is poor, the rolls are so-so at best, and the prices are way too high. Oh how I wish there was an Ajishin here in Greenville. If there are any sushi gods out there, I call upon thee to bring real sushi and udon to the South! The benchmark for real sushi and udon yelp.com/biz/ajishin-novi

This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to Greenville a few years ago. I had a friend who heard it was good, but she didn't like sushi, so I figured I should try it out. I really love it! There's a great big list of sushi rolls with a lot of unique flavors. I think my favorite so far has been the Dragon Rolls, but I've yet to have anything I didn't like. This is definitely a good place to visit for a casual weekday dinner.

Enjoyed a great meal at the sushi bar here as a solo traveler. Sushi guys were very busy and not a lot of conversation but they were taking care of business. Shrimp tempura appetizer was very good. Shrimp may have been overcooked by 10 seconds but were excellent and the veggies with it outstanding. Tried two rolls. One wrapped in cucumber (only one like that on the menu. Other a house specialty. Both excellent followed by an eel sushi which could have used a tad more eel sauce. But this is picky picky review. Place has a great atmosphere. Several seating options. Bar. Sushi bar. Restaurant tables. Don't be turned off by negative reviews on this one. Just egos looking to satisfy something other than their appetite. IMHO

The evening was set perfectly for my big group of family to have a great time over food and conversation. The location of our seating was okay and I could not complain about a thing, My MISO soup hit the spot and the rest was uphill from there.

I was with a large group of people celebrating a friend's birthday and Tsunami was very accomodating. The service was quick, especially for the large group of people we had. Their sushi rolls were amazing! I ordered the "best sushi roll ever" and the "greenville roll." These rolls were heavy on the extras like cream cheese and spicy sauce but there were plenty of more authentic rolls to choose from as well. I've been looking for a good flavor like these rolls all over Charlotte but I can't seem to find what I want. The atmosphere in this place was nice. It was not too fancy but not too laid back either. I would defintely come back during future visits to Greenville.

I was in SC for a tournament and my friend was craving Japanese food. I normally don't like to try Asian food in the middle of nowhere but my friend insisted that we go. The place did look nice and that was about it. Their udon was weird...I've never, EVER had udon with broccoli, zucchini and spinach. There was no sign of fishcake or little the little bits of seaweed and the noodles were overcooked and slimy. The other people in my group had fried rice, some roll and noodle dish. Needless to say no one enjoyed their meal. If you know good Japanese food, do NOT go here! You will only be disappointed.

YUM! I met about 10 girlfriends for dinner last night, and we all shared some of the most delectable rolls and edamame I've ever tasted. Nothing 'fishy' tasting here; just really, really good sushi. I'm not a huge sushi buff - I don't have the courage to go for anything hardcore if you know what I mean, but I do love a good spicy tuna/shrimp tempura/crab & avocado, a.k.a "Rockstar" roll every now and then. Rice on the outside, please!

Atmosphere is great! Food is GREAT!!! Staff is Great!! I love the fact you can kick your heels/shoes off and chow down on some of the best sushi in, South Carolina! I have traveled across America to find the best sushi bar's. Hiro Sushi is one of the absolute BEST places to eat sushi. I love their spider rolls..the crab rolls are awesome..I've eaten just about everything off the menu..You can't go wrong here. Quality is #1 here

We went to Tsunami on the recommendation of many that it is the best sushi in Greenville. While it was definitely good, I'm hoping it's not the best! First of all the air conditioner must have been set at 60, because it was FREEZING in there. The ambiance is a little odd, but no big deal. We started with the crab and cream cheese wontons, which were tasty and I really liked the cucumber salsa that came along with it. The wontons were super tiny though and you only got 4. My husband got the Teriyaki Chicken hibachi and I got two different types of specialty rolls. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. It was decently priced. I think we would go back if others were wanting to meet there, but are still hoping to find the best sushi restaurant in Greenville!

  • Jonathan C.

Tsunami has a good atmosphere. Lot's of people, well lit, and that's about it... if you haven't had a lot of different exposure to Japanese food, you'l probably think this place is awesome. I started off with the 'Fuki' wine, which was the cheapest and strongest Fuki wine I've ever tasted. I wouldn't recommend it. My brother and I had some different sushi rolls. I ate a Japanese omelette, which was pretty disappointing. A Japanese omelette should tast buttery and nutty at the same time and should be bright yellow. This was slighly orange, dry, and basically tasted like it had a lot of sugar and no real taste. However, I would recommend the salmon roll. It comes in 6 pieces and is actally pretty good. I would also recommend the 'City' roll. It's a bastardized deep-friend roll composed of asparagus, avacado, and smoked salmon. There's nothing even remotely Japanese about it but it's still very good...

The food was pretty good, not authentic, but more Americanized, which isn't necessarily bad. I had a hard time finding a roll without cream cheese, avocado, asparagus and/or cucumber. The service was pretty bad. The front desk girl was not there and took a few minutes to show up after we walked in. Our server was a little slow but otherwise on point at first, but then she disappeared and we wanted to order another couple things. We will most likely go back as we know that sometimes people have off nights. Our first trip, however, will get 2 stars.

Best sushi in Greenville. way better than Sushi Hana and Irashi. Get the white tuna. And Sassafras Roll. Holy crap.

    (5)
  • Sylvia Y.

i don't do raw fish much, so i enjoy the americanized "sushi" rolls. spider roll, and dragon rolls are my favorites. in comparison to all the sushi joints in california, this is mediocre, but situated in greenville, i'd say it's one of my favorite places to go. my parents are huge sushi fans, abalone, yellow tail, mackerel, tuna and salmon aren't even on their radar. yet they enjoy this place as well. in my book, tsunami get's an "A."

    (4)
  • Kitty K.

If you're looking for a non-authentic sushi place that is a southern-ized Chinese imitation of Japanese food, this is the place to go. I avoided the list of fried rolls and other things with cream cheese in them. As for the other selection of non-fried rolls, they look like something I can attempt at home. I am Asian. I know rice. The type of rice used here is cheap and incorrect, the difference between Japanese & Chinese rice.

Best place for sushi by far! good place for a group to hang out, have a few drinks and eat some good food! if you go earlier in the evening its not as crazy as it gets later in the night and esp. on the weekends! For me anytime is a great time for sushi no matter what!

So far, this is my favorite sushi place in Greenville, so perhaps I'm a little biased. All of my visits have been enjoyable and I haven't had anything that I disliked. I've been pleasantly surprised at the high quality of all of the food here each time I visit. The miso is tasty, though they could stand to give you a little more than a tiny bowl. Anytime I have ordered the edamame, it comes out hot and cooked just right. I could do without the salt they put on it, but it doesn't take away from anything. Their salmon sushi is always fresh and less fatty than other places. The list of rolls is quite expanisve, so take some time to pour over it and pick out some unusual rolls. From the ones I have tried, I have liked the spicy salmon or spicy tuna, the salad roll (which has cucumber as the wrapping instead of the usual seaweed), and the plain sushi or tuna rolls. This time around, I tried the volcano roll on my last visit, which was quite the change from the typical stuff I order. Nothing wrong with branching out a little! Oh, and I love the pink ginger *yum* The staff here is also great, complete with many friendly and smiling faces and fast service. I've been fortunate to not hit the peak food times when visiting, so I've never had to wait too long for anything. Either way, I've always felt welcome & been treated well, which so often can make or break a dining experience. There is also a full bar, so don't be shy. From the street, Tsunami doesn't stand out at first, but go on in anyway. This is my go-to place for sushi when I'm downtown for the day, no question.

  • Shelley B.

Decent sushi, but you're paying for the location (and a lot I might add) rather than for the fish. I'm a twenty-something and I find the clientele here a bit annoying, so who knows what older folks must think. Overpriced across the board, bar items too, but certainly a nice ambiance. Expect long waits on the weekends and to sit 5 inches from the next table. Not very zen.

Was very surprised to find a decent sushi place and not exactly on main st I might add. This place rocks and the service is excellent and I even heard face to face play over the stereo... Use to be called Hiro's but he's gone separate ways and now does his sushi @ Murasaki a few blocks down the road. Not my cup of tea since they lack variety of Japanese dishes. Sushi is good but nothing to go ga ga over. My friends like it. The beer is always cold. If you're buying, I will always go. Also, who the hell came up with that name, Tsunami? It's like coming up with a name The Plague - the new fish and chips eatery. Come on now.

Ate here last September, the food was great, however, since then, the service has gone bad. Tried to eat here last week for lunch, again. The restaurant was not crowded, but the service was still really slow, again. (Different servers, same slow service) After waiting nearly 30 minutes for our meal, and commenting about not being able to wait much longer, the server copped an attitude, and replied with "That's not my fault. I'm not the one cooking it". Between her attitude, and the wait time, we decided to go elsewhere to get our lunch. Downtown Greenville has too many eating options for service like this... we won't return anytime soon.

Our first trip, however, will get 2 stars.

i don't do raw fish much, so i enjoy the americanized "sushi" rolls. spider roll, and dragon rolls are my favorites. in comparison to all the sushi joints in california, this is mediocre, but situated in greenville, i'd say it's one of my favorite places to go. my parents are huge sushi fans, abalone, yellow tail, mackerel, tuna and salmon aren't even on their radar. yet they enjoy this place as well. in my book, tsunami get's an "A."
