it is always good, when we arrived tonight. the place looked like a disaster hit it. half the tables were dirty and empty. we got chips, salsa and drinks right away. but after we ordered, we WAITED 45 minutes for food. our waitress advised, they got busy and had to many orders of Fajhitas. the service was good and happy our bellies r full. we will do there survey later and complain.

Ordered take out, enchiladas suizas, and a side of guacamole. I was told it would be 20 minutes, I was staying about 3 minutes away, waited only 10 minutes drive over, and food was already waiting, but took them about 5 minutes to help me, when I get back to the room, food is cold, presentation is nasty, plus I was given chips salsa and of course guacamole. Salsa was over the top salty as was the avocado, it was un-eatable, so I ended throwing away the chips salsa and avocado. Just terrible.

Mehhh. Decent food, decent salsa, slow wait service, price is fair. Too many other options in Greenville to eat here.

I stopped in here while in Greenville, South Carolina because I love their chip brand in stores and wanted to try the restaurant. There is an open porch with plenty of tables for outside seating. The chips, salsa and queso were outstanding! Really, really great! I mean the first reason you go to any Tex-Mex type restaurant are these items and they excel here - think the old Rio Bravo type chips and salsa. Yum! They have soft drinks, a full bar and, of course, margaritas in many flavors. I had tostadas as a complement to my appetizers and was very, very full with plenty left over. The service, both waittress and manager, were atttentive and very helpful. They have a full Mexican and Tex-Mex type menu. Everything I tried was great and it was only a few miles from the airport. Great place for parties, happy hours or gatherings. I definitely recommend On the Border for a filling, fresh meal with some fun!

After years of driving by I finally stopped here to have lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had the steak fajitas and they were pretty good. Service was up to par also. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to again.

Eh. .. it's ok. I like the chips and salsa. Jamaica iced tea was pretty sweet. I had enchiladas with chicken tinga which was pretty good abd flavorful. The rice, not so much. Service was good and management checked up on us, which was nice.

We ordered takeout recently. Please save your hard earned money. I ordered the steak nachos which consisted of 8 nacho chips with two microscopic pieces of steak with shredded cheddar cheese on each one. The steak had no flavor just added texture to the chips and cheese. It went to the trash rather quick. I have them two stars as my husband enjoyed his brisket tacos enough to be able to finish them.

Good food and service several levels above this class of restaurant. Great selection of sauces to accompany dishes let you customize the flavor. Highlights were the chicken tortilla soup and the fajitas. The shrimp on the fajitas was the best choice.

Love this place. The food is always good. Not necessarily the best thing you've ever tasted but always good and consistant. The service is usually good as was the case today. I just wanna give a shoutout to Shamar who served our table of 6 today and did a stellar job! Overall, it's a great place for Sunday lunch. Ask for Shamar!

We just completed our dinning experience, yes it was an experience... We were greeted by our waitress with "can I get you something to drink?" I kept my comment of, no I will get it myself, to myself... I would have expected a hello, let me tell you about our drink and food specials...like the server at the table next to us did. But guess my expectations were set too high. Anyways we ordered drinks and they arrived with the chips as salsa. My wife took one bite of the salsa and said, don't they have mild. It was spicy but good. When our server came back we asked if they had mild salsa. She replied, normally I ask but it's busy and I forgot. Could not resist, but I looked around several times and just did not see the crowd....anyways we got mild salsa. We then ordered. We will start with the queso cheese dip and the pick two specials of a taco and enchilada, plus can we get some guacamole, and another beer.. The next beer arrived....20 minutes later here comes the pick two we ordered. I then asked how about the cheese? Oh, she replied, we don't have food runners tonight.....as a runner brings out the fajitas to the table next to us while their server stands next to the tray. So the cheese comes out with a nice film on the top that we peeled away... Needless to say we finished eating the tasteless soggy food and beer. I set the empty glass on the edge of the table for our server to refill. She returned and said can I get the plates out of your way. We said yes, and away they went. No mention of, can I get you another beer.... Needless to say we left a dollar tip, only because my wife made me...we won't be back.

I visited this restaurant Thursday Oct.30,2014. Horrible. Horrible and just plain bad. I went around 3pm and there was seven or eight guests in the entire restaurant. I ordered cheese enchiladas with rice and black beans. So... the table chips and salsa was the best thing I had here. The salsa has some heat to it and I like spicy food. My plate was extremely hot so the waiter holding it with napkins places it in front of me and I couldn't touch it. After it cools down a little the tortilla was tough -I had to use my knife to cut in pieces in order to try it. My beans were cold and they had to come out separately because I received pintos instead of what I ordered. I would safely say my food was microwaved before they brought it out to me. I took a bite of the tough as nails enchiladas and didn't eat anything else on that plate. I saw who I believe to be managers( a short guy behind the bar and a taller guy that was at the hostess station but eventually stood behind the bar). Whom ever manages this restaurant should not. I did not complain because the fact that my Mexican food was most likely microwaved is the expectation of preparation in my opinion -so no need to complain.

Iama Critic Rating - On The Border - 3 Stars 74 Beacon Drive, Greenville, SC Overall: I was rather stunned when I searched my reviews and didn't find one for On The Border. Before Papas and Beer came to Greenville my crew used to go to On The Border for their Big Burrito all the time. So we naturally had to go back to our old hangout and find out how things had changed. What we found was the same restaurant we left years ago. The food is decent, the price is decent, the service is, well.... not so decent. But there is just nothing that stands out and demands that you come back. There is no signature dish or restaurant feature, like a salsa bar, that will visit you in your dreams of fine Mexican food. They are so used to cooking the same old thing the same old way at OTB, that they have trouble with special orders, and ignored even my simple request not to cut my big burrito. The Service - 2 Stars - (Tip 11%) Our 11% tip was perhaps generous as our waiter was slow, did not follow any of our special instructions, and failed to make any attempt whatsoever to interact with us in any way. Of course, we are quite used to this sort of poor service from male waiters, which is why we normally specifically ask for female waitresses. Frankly I think all male waiters ought to attend some form of sociability school to learn how to interact with the public. Being a great waitress is not a job, it is an art! If you are not an artist, please quit and save us innocent diners the chore of putting up with you! The Food: Table Chips & Salsa - 4 Stars OTB house makes their own chips which are served as half tortillas. These chips are just the right thickness and saltiness. OTB's salsas are decent especially if you mix their mild and hot together. Sadly they only offer two salsas. $3.99 - Tortilla Soup - 3 Stars This price is getting a little steep for such a small bowl of soup. But the flavor is still very good. It would have been better but my waiter left it sitting too long and the tortilla chips got soggy. $10.99 - Big Burrito - 3 Stars This used to be the king of Greenville burritos, but no longer. It comes with a rather boring salad, which we didn't bother to take pictures of. The burrito itself is fabulous, with great flavor and perfectly cooked once I returned the first one for being cut in half, which i told my waiter no to do. But this burrito just falls short at this price and against the competition from Papas and Beer's Mega Burrito. $9.99 - Chile Burger - 4 Stars I can't even find this burger on OTB's online menu, so maybe they don't serve it anymore with menus changing every few months. However this burger was awesome for the price. The bun was perfection, the meat had a great flavor and even the presentation was very nice. For $10 this burger was great. $10.49 - 3 Sauce Fajita Burrito - 2 Stars This burrito entree just looked like a joke on our table. It's just a small little burrito with some boring rice and very good beans. For $10.49 it is just too little food for too much money. Final Thoughts: As I was posting my photo's I noticed that OTB had posted numerous stock photos of the food you supposedly can get. What total bunk!!!! Just look at that appetizer photo! You are never going to be served anything that looks like that! And the day they serve fajitas that actually look like that is the day I start eating no where else but OTB. I truly dislike false advertising, because it never provides what it promises!

Went there with my wife today and we had a pretty good experience. Almost would fall into the 4 star category in some areas. Our server was exceptional. Quick with food, drinks, napkins and anything else we needed including the "to go" cup. Loaded Queso was quite good and the entrees were fair. What you expect from an On the Border. Salsa is always very good and this was no exception. Prices for entrees fall in line with what you would expect. $8-$12 with a few higher. Apps are a little high in price. Queso was $7 and loaded or not, that seems high. Most were in the $8 range and it would keep us from getting them in the future. All in all, definitely worth it for a quick Tex-Mex place.

He said: I liked it OK. THE MACHINE spun and spun, but nobody ever used it, and we were there over 90 minutes. Just read what she said and you'll get this joint. She said: I expected more from this chain. The food was OK, but didn't stand out above other similar restaurants. The service was good, but slow. We waited a while on our food. And the tortilla machine wasn't run a single time in the hour and a half we were there.

Waitress was friendly and efficient. Order was delivered quickly, almost too quickly. I ordered the chicken & rice soup to start and had only about 3-4 minutes before my steak fajita salad appeared. Steak fajitas were prepared with onions but no peppers, which was odd - I've always had peppers prepared with fajitas at other mexican restaurants. Overall my meal was very good though - I loved the jalapeno vinegrette that came with the salad.. My husband had the "superior" combo, which was quite satisfying as well. Waitress seemed anxious to get us out the door even though the restaurant was less than half empty and we were far from closing time. But it was a good meal nonetheless.

If you drink, the cocktail list is also amazing!!

This is some real bland tex-mex. Basically just put some tortillas on some unseasoned ground beef and you'll wind up with this. You can get a lot better Mexican if you drive up the Parkway to the Publix shopping center and just get some cheapo delicious food there. And honestly this dichotomy between the locally owned, rough-around-the-edges yet delicious Mexican restaurant set back from the highway, and this anonymous, tasteless chain Tex-Mex place right next to the interstate summarizes why the East Side is a horrible place. Most things of any local character are slowly being destroyed, buried under distracting corporate crap or chased downtown. Meanwhile the corporate chains of Laurens and Haywood Road, which had at least gathered some lived-in, laid-back charm with age, are being bankrupted or chased out to Woodruff and Pelham, where square miles of subdivisions pour molasses rivers of traffic into six lane tarmacs, where they shuttle back and forth between churches that look like strip malls and strip malls that serve as the new churches of an alien and imported corporate religion. Enough!

recently went for my sister's birthday. i thought it was going to suck, to be honest. we had been here once before and i wasnt impressed. BUT it was actually pretty great. our waitress was really friendly, which played a huge part in why i liked the place so much this time. tortilla chips were pretty good. two salsas came with it. non-spicy tasted like water. spicy tasted great. i order a chicken chimichanga and this sucker was huge. it came with refried beans, rice and nacho queso on the side. everything had really bold flavors, you guys. but the queso wasnt cuttin it. kinda solidified at the top. not good, otb (on the border). anyway, what i ordered was great. friend ordered steak fajitas and he really enjoyed it too. will go back!

Oh...On the Border...Well, I can definitely say it did not inspire any feelings of proximity to Mexico...if that was the feeling they were going for call that a fail... What strikes me as extremely odd...and maybe this is part of the grand scheme of things...is how every single On the Border is the same...from the Corona bottle chandelier to the layout of the tables and even the floor plan...maybe this is why On the Borders can always be found next to hotels? Is one of their company missions to lend comfort to weary travelers by providing consistent atmospheres from New Jersey to South Carolina? Another thing On the Border does consistently is provide mediocre food and service...in every On the Border I have walked into the patrons are mostly hotel guests and the servers have the same blank dazed expressions...and the place is never extremely busy...their salsa has that pre-prepared watery- not -so- spicy taste...and their enchiladas are mysteriously tasteless...and don't forget the almost Velveeta-y cheese dip with rotel... I am not sure why I walked into the Greenville location...maybe I was curious to see if they could keep up the tradition (of course they did ...Silly, the Hampton and Marriott are just across the street)...they didn't disappoint...that Corona chandelier was hanging just as dusty as it does in other locations...and the food was equally as bland... I felt closer to the border trying to prepare my own fajitas at home than I did at On the Border...

This is an excellent place to eat. All of the food was fresh, and it seemed to be authentic. I had the baja combo, which included black beans, a chicken enchilada, and a deep-fried avocado. All of these were delicious. The service was definitely above average as well. I definitely recommend giving On the Border a try.

On the Border in Greenville, SC is pretty much the same as On the Border anywhere. By the time Tom and I hit this spot we were deep into our 2 week sales training in Greenville. You could say we were getting homesick, but to be honest I don't think I've ever been fully comfortable living out of a suitcase in any of my travels. I don't think it's homesickness more than you just never feel grounded. So Tom and I ended up getting wasted on margaritas at On the Border to solve our dilemma. They had some crazy happy hour deal, we couldn't refuse!

Best Mexican for a decent price. Chips and salsa are amazing, and of course bottomless! Love the happy hour specials and if you like guacamole, try their "Guacamole Live" where they make it at your table. Great white queso too.

The food is decent for a decent price. There is hardly a wait, and the staff is really nice. We have a friend who works there so we always sit in her section and the service is outstanding. :) Better than a couple of "mexican" places we have tried, even some claiming to be authentic. If anyone knows of a really great real mexican place, I'm open to suggestions!

Typical OTB but we are suckers for the happy hour specials so we go regularly. Servers are polite and call us by name.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
