Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is pretty much my favorite Mexican restaurant. I haven't ordered a single thing there that I didn't like. I hate to be THAT customer that walks in 15 minutes before closing. I had family visit and get in town late and they were starving and wanted Mexican. Not much was open, but the service and food was amazing. When I go back, everything is always amazing. I love the salsa.

I had La Parilla for the first time yesterday and I definitely plan on going back. The atmosphere is really nice, clean, and the staff is very friendly. The hostess and server were very prompt and nice. The grilled chicken salad came out and it was a giant. All of the ingredients seemed fresh and tasted amazing. Better than most mexican restaurant salads I've had. I kept hearing good things about it so I had to check it out. I highly recommend this place the next time you want authentic mexican food.

Never fails me . Always a pleasure!
(5)Amber H.
Tried today for the first and last time. I was not impressed with the food at all. I could have put together the same taste at home for less. The service was outstanding. I just wish the good could have been the same.
(2)Craig W.
my favorite Mexican restaurant in Greenville. have tried almost everything and never leave unhappy or hungry. would eat here every week if I could. only complaint is the traffic you get stuck in trying to get there.
(5)Brad W.
Stopped here for dinner after seeing the Jersey Boys matinee. The service was quick and the food was very good. I had the shrimp soup which was very tasty with just the right amount of spice. The others in our party enjoyed their selections, too.
(4)Santi L.
superb skirt steak tacos, impressive fish tacos, fantastic burritos drizzelled in quality melted cheese, quality thin chips lightly salted, arachera steak and charro beans... the servers are ok, they are learning but getting rapidly getting better, they have gotten my order mixed up a few times, but they go above and beyond to fix it. even with the few mistakes, i am alway more than willing to go back thanks to the quality and flavor of the food, it is always consistent, and the manager Alejandro, and the bartenders are very welcoming.

Great large Mexican restaurant. Traditions Americanized Mexican dishes. Good food. Good service.
(4)Dahoniel P.
A nice sit down with the family was what I was aiming for and it is exactly what we got. It was not a busy day, yet our waiter still found a way to forget about our drinks in the process. I had the burrito and it was just enough to fill me up. Nothing about this place wowed me but at the same time it was not something I terribly hated either.
(3)Bri A.
I'm usually not a huge Mexican fan, but this place is awesome. On my mommy-days-off, I'll go in here and order the guacamole (MUST HAVE!) and a steak fajita and just chill with a book for a few hours. Anything with the steak is awesome. I don't know what they do to it, but I highly recommend it. Waitstaff has always been great, too.
(5)Joel E.
Great service great food Will eat here again. I will return here again when I'm in this area again.
(5)Wesley M.
My first visit here was a pleasure. The restaurant is clean, the service is on the money, the drinks are cold & flavorful and the food stands on it's own merit. Bottom line up front is that I will be back and I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family without any reservations or caveats. Good quality food from the chips to the main course to the beverages to dessert...NOTHING was watered down or marginalized. The Mojito was exceptional, taking me back to my vacations to Cancun and Cozumel. The food...was TASTY. I could pounder on the pros of my meal...but tonight all I am going to say is TASTY!!!!

Iama Critic Rating - La Parrilla - 4 Stars 1 Market Point Drive, Greenville, SC Overall: I have a friend who is so picky I don't think she has ever sat at the table that we were first assigned. And it was no different at La Parrilla. And my friend doesn't eat anything but chicken, boring plain grilled chicken. And yet one can actually fall asleep waiting for her to finally finish all the special details she requires to be satisfied. Naturally this is a great test of waiter and restaurant, like when she asked for crackers instead of tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant. However our waiter handled the situation with smooth undaunted professionalism! And by the end of the night we all were satisfied and content. The Service - 5 Stars (21%) Wow, I might have to change my attitude toward male waiters after being served by Camilo! He was simply phenomenal. He was sociable, attentive, professional and cool as can be. Even though he was also serving a large party at another table he spent plenty of time talking with me and my guest. And he was a real representative for the restaurant, providing tons of information about the restaurant's history, locations, menu items, and how much he liked working there. Simply put, Camilo is what all waiters and waitresses should be, and for his effort we provided a $10 (21%) tip. However, I have a beef with the guest check's suggested tips. They are based on the after tax amount. Tips are always based on the pre-tax amount and it is very rare to see a guest check suggested tips based on the after tax amount. So be sure to use your own calculations when deciding on your tip. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: Table chips and Salsa - 4 Stars La Parrilla's table chips are the standard, thin variety. The mild and medium salsas are rather ordinary which means tasty, but too tomatoey, smooth and runny for my liking. The hot salsa however was specially suggested and prepared by my waiter, and it was incredible. Hot, but not painful, with a perfect flavor, it was great on everything I put it on except for the mashed potatoes, which is obviously not a good combo, but I thought I would try it. This hot salsa was so good they ought to bottle it. $9.25 Lrg Guacamole - 3 Stars This is a mighty steep price for a bowl of guac. But as it was not on my bill I apparently received it for free. Nevertheless the portion was a bit skimpy for the intended price of over nine bucks. The flavor however was as good as the best you have had at other restaurants. $13.99 Fiesta Salad - 4 Stars This is a steep price for an ordinary salad, but this salad is anything but ordinary. It came with a very respectably sized portion of perfectly grilled salmon. The salad is loaded with a wonderful mix of condiments included dried cranberries and various nuts and cheeses. The dressing comes on the side in little tiny tortilla bowls which is quite a unique little touch. The salmon however had a slightly odd scent, definitely fishier smelling than I prefer. $11.99 Chicken Fajitas - 4 Stars These fajitas were ordered with black beans instead of the standard Mexican beans (refried). Apparently this is a $0.55 upcharge, which is irrelevant because the beans are superb. Absolutely stunning was the fact that the Mexican rice was also great!!! La Parrilla apparently is one of the extremely few Mexican restaurants that know how to make decent rice. Theirs is mixed with tiny portions of carrot and corn with the perfect blend of spices. The fajita mix was a nice blend of the standard ingredients and the chicken itself was moist and perfectly cooked. Even the tortillas are served in a special weaved contained that kept them soft and warm for the entire meal. $16.99 Mango Salmon - 5 Stars My entrée was a magnificently prepared portion of salmon. This portion was extremely fresh and had a pleasant aroma. The mashed potatoes were not very pleasing to look at, in fact they were rather ugly, but the flavor was phenomenal and they were well hidden under the gorgeous fish and asparagus. I am not much of a fan for the tortilla strips, but they do provide a nice presentation and are easily removed so you can admire that wonderful salmon. Total Bill: $61.75 for two people including tax, tip and two soda fountain drinks. This is more than the average person will spend per person at La Parrilla. (Our bill did not include the large guacamole that we ordered as the price for this item was not on our bill.) Final Thoughts: As one of the best Mexican restaurants we have visited in Greenville, we will definitely be back, and when we do go back, I am going to do something I never do.... I am going to ask for a male waiter, Camilo, and more of his awesome hot salsa!

Came here on a Thursday evening with a group of nine. The food was very good but the service was lacking as they were down a few staff members. They brought us free desserts and that went a long way. Would give them another shot.
(3)Tom D.
The only reason this place isn't getting a 5 star rating from me is the noise factor. Everything else was SPOT ON! Great food choices - super prices - lots of parking - fantastic service and the best Mexican I've had in a very long time! Don't forget to have the table-side guacamole - it was super fantastic!
(4)Hope L.
Really enjoyed dinner here tonight!! The tableside guacamole was delicious and made to order, and the food came out quickly and was great quality Mexican. Our table enjoyed an enchilada dish with seafood inside (good pieces of shrimp and tilapia but not too fishy!) as well as a well sized chicken burrito topped in lettuce, tomato, and sour cream... the skinny margaritas were crisp and had the perfect amount of tequila to top it all off!! Fabulous service by our waiter - he even gave us a dessert on the house when he found out it was our first trip to La Parrilla :) We'll definitely be back!
(5)Lauren H.
The food is delicious but I was underwhelmed by the service. Crisp chips, stellar salsa and a loaded quesadilla. However, the waitress needed better hospitality skills.
(3)Casey S.
Was quickly sat despite it being a busy Saturday night and quickly received our waters but had to wait for ~15 minutes to receive our margaritas and place our meal orders. The waiter seemed quite overwhelmed. The chips were plentiful and had good flavor. Like that they come out warm. The salsa was very good and fresh tasting. It was a bit runny though, and I would have preferred more chunks of tomato, onion, and pepper. I got the 20 ounce skinny margarita. 20 ounces is the second size of five options but it was quite big enough for me. And it had great flavor without being coyingly sweet. For entrees I had the carnitas which I absolutely loved. The pork was super tender and well seasoned, it was served over a salsa verde which was a nice accompaniment. The rice was average but to me the real star were the smoky, bacon flavored charro beans. I could've eaten them all night! My friends got the brisket chili rellenos and veggie fajitas and we're happy. My number one complaint was when the bill came - my "medium" margarita cost more than my entire entree! I think this is a little ridiculous and something you should be warned about.
(3)Tom Y.
The food and service are outstanding! By far the best Mexican food I've eaten since moving to South Carolina 6 years ago! Keep up the good work guys!
(5)Chris G.
The food is excellent and so was my service. I had the Taco Tinga. Spicy and excellent. You need to try it..
(4)James W.
Great experience...without a doubt. The best pop-in Mexican spot I have been to in the Upstate. Great food. GREAT FOOD. Restaurant was very clean, bathrooms and all. Very well maintained. I will definitely be back!
(5)Manoj B.
Woah! Pleasantly surprised. Liked this Mexican joint. Had the Chicken Tenders and Shrimp. The custom made sauces with a bunch of flavors are nice. For the entree, we had grilled chicken along with black beans and rice. The table chips are good too. The wait staff is very friendly. My opinion: Should try this place if you love Mexican cuisine.
(5)Chris P.
This was amazing Mexican!! Best in the upstate that I've had. Loved the shrimp tacos!!
(5)Vicki L.
Ok, I rate the food a four, but the margarita I had, only a two, at best. I would think a margarita in a Mexican restaurant would be spectacular, but NOT!! They serve it out of an iced tea tin, nasty. It has so much sour mix, hardly any tequila at all. Now the food, yum. I had chicken fajita and my husband had coconut shrimp, both delicious. Their veggie quesadilla is really good to. So don't drink a margarita, and your good to go.
(3)Santiago R.
We came here around midday, maybe the first ones here so I can't comment on usual wait-time, but the food and place itself is above average easily. We got their best fajita dish, the for-two version, and I can say I tasted high-quality meats, as it brought chicken, shrimp, even steak. All these tasted good and I noticed they were good quality as well. Though you might be charged as a tourist location as well. It very well could be, it's a nice area in Greenville, SC. Though everything was above average, that's all I can say really, for now. Nothing really "sparked" as worth noticing different. Though you'll get what you pay for. I'll give it a #recommend.
(4)Catherine G.
We come here frequently and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Most flavorful Mexican food I've had in Greenville.
(5)Robin W.
I have been to this restaurant several times and I am glad I did not review hastily. All of the positive comments about the bright colorful atmosphere, cleanliness, quality food, innovative preparation are true, but la parilla tries really hard to upsell everything and it can be annoying and exhausting to monitor this from your drink order to dessert! They are already more expensive than my "regular" Mexican stops, and that is cool with me because the experience is superior, but come on, put all prices on the menu, price your food fairly, and allow me to enjoy my meal without constantly trying to sell me on something I haven't asked for and if an item I have inquired about will cost more - please inform me.
(3)Rachna D.
Amazing service and food! Our server, Santiago was phenomenal! We asked for spicy salsa and he literally made it for us...it was spicy and delicious! The table side guacamole was just what we had a taste for. Overall a great experience!
(5)Wes J.
La Parilla sets a new standard for Mexican restaurants in an otherwise crowded marketplace in Greenville. The food is a clear notch above the rest in terms of quality. I typically go on Wednesday's for cheap beer night and sit at the bar. All of the bar staff are incredibly courteous and provide some good entertainment. The only reason I will not give a 5 star is that the service at the tables seems unorganized sometimes.

I will not return just based on my first experience last night. We arrived with my party of 4 around 7:15pm on a Monday night. There were already a couple of groups of 2 to 4 people waiting up front so I assumed it was a packed house and expected a little wait. Upon checking in we were given a table pager and told the wait would be about 15 minutes. While normally this is no problem and I'm more than willing to wait, at the time we checked in there were no less than 10 open tables throughout the restaurant and they were nowhere near capacity. I thought it strange that there was a wait with so many obviously available tables but stood to the side like a good patron. During the wait, another few groups came in and were told the same wait would apply. When one other customer wondered aloud why there was a wait with all the open tables I said I was wondering the same. I asked the hostess for an explanation as to why we were told there was a 15 minute wait with so many open tables and was told "we're just trying to provide the best service possible to everyone". I asked if doing so meant making people wait 15 minutes for an open table and was told they just said 15 minutes but it could be less??? I asked again why there was even a wait at all and was brushed off and given no answer. After another 5 minute wait we decided to eat elsewhere. It was suggested that maybe they didn't have enough servers to handle a full house so they were seating people slowly but that was never expressed to me and there appeared to plenty of servers working. I felt if there were open tables the people waiting should have been seated...isn't eating chips and salsa while you wait part of the charm? Slow service would have been preferable to being made to wait....It's a shame because I heard this place was really good but they've lost my potential business before even seeing the menu....They need to realize there a hundreds of restaurant choices within 1/4 mile and Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen. Terrible lack of service....1 star....I'd give 0 if it allowed.
(1)Austin J.
Honestly i would give this place 0 stars if it let me, because this was truely the worst mexican resteraunt ive ever been to. I eat at all the various mexican resteraunts around the upstate, but this one takes the cake as being one of the worst most tastebud dead food ever. We came at about 4pm when there wasnt very many people..Lets start off with what i ordered..I ordered one of their combos chicken burrito with a chicken enchilada with a chili-relleno. Okay the chicken in both items had to of been dropped into a food processor for at least 15 minutes, judging by how long it took for the food to come, now i know good food sometimes takes longer to prepare, but i think my cat honestly wouldn't eat this chicken, and she's a fatty. Then there was the chili-relleno was very generic, tasted even somewhat less quality than that of monterry's. Now before our meal we ordered a bean dip and a cheese dip, they were about the only acceptable part of the meal, that is if the chips didnt have a pound of salt on them and the fact they were cold, obviously had been sitting out for quite a while. So my verdict for this review is that if your tastebuds are fond of very mediocre foods or you only eat McDonald's then this place is for you. In fact i think the food from McDonald's has a higher quality than this food. Don't eat here, don't listen to these family and friend reviews..you will thank me that u didn't.

Went to grab a late dinner after working late one night and this place was surprisingly busy! No wait or issue getting a seat since it was just two of us. The menu is a little more diverse than your typical Mexican joint, but they do have all of the standards as well. We got the cheese dip and chips, and the chips were very good. I ordered two a la carte tacos because I was not very hungry. Taco de Cerdo--with shredded/pulled pot was amazing. Great flavor, tender meat and perfectly spiced. Taco Tradicionales left a lot to be desired--dry and bland. I had to drench it with salsa to make it edible. Service was very good. This place gets 3 stars instead of 4 mainly because one of my items was not very good. I will definitely go back and get the taco dr Cerdo again...and try some they menu items.
(3)Joshua V.
Our food was excellent, tender juicy and well flavored. It was super busy when we came in so it took a bit to get our food but They did great managing it. Our server Krystal was cheerful and great, as well.
(5)J C.
Great guacamole. Beef tacos tradicionales Very nice environment and decoration. Excellent service
(4)Sarah W.
Best Mexican food in the Upstate! Service was excellent, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. Try the chimichangas, the beans, the shrimp tacos, and soapapillas!
(5)Jeff C.
Chips were light, not greasy. Meal was fresh. Portions were large. Service was excellent, very attentive and accommodating. Will definitely come back!
(5)Robert M.
The wait was excessive. Then we were seated next to the kitchen. We moved ourselves! The food as always was excellent! Will be back! If these vatos could get the service right this would be a 5 star rating. Did I mention the food was wonderful?
(4)Troy F.
Arguably one of the best damn Mexican Restaurants in this area. Greenville has certainly waited for a great place to eat delicious Mexican food. My wife and I love the combination dinners, and my son absolutely devours anything you put in front of him at this place!!
(5)Jackie H.
Everyone I know LOVES this place! Best Mexican in Greenville. Their fish tacos are my favorite and the margaritas are fresh and delicious.
(5)Ben M.
An overall good experience. I'm not super crazy about this style food but their fish tacos wee very well done. My wife said the taco salad was one of the better she has had. Service was excellent and the waiter was prompt and nice.
(4)DeAnne M.
I've enjoyed this restaurant numerous times, and tonight was the first time I had the opportunity to eat outside. Excellent service, great food, and laughter with my friends.
(5)Perri M.
Fantastic! Best fish tacos I have had since living in Southern California. The steak (on hubby's nachos) was awesome. Quality ingredients. Very friendly and knowledgable staff!! We'll be back!
(5)Valerie B.
One of the best Mexican restaurants in Greenville. Fresh ingredients, large portions, good service. Slightly above average pricing, but you get what you pay for. No complaints.
(5)Jim D.
My wife and I are from out of town and saw the good reviews here so figured we would give it a shot. We are happy to say it wasn't a mistake. The food was excellent as was our server Carolina. Excellent and prompt service and the food was hot when we got it. Prices were in line for most Mexican restaurants. They offer a full service bar with daily specials. I had the Fajita Quesa Texas which had great taste and the portion was plentiful. My wife had the Steak Fajitas with was equally as tasty and way more than she could finish. Thanks for the great service Caroline! We will be back to see you next time we are in town.
(5)Cindy H.
Good location and friendly service but overpriced compared to other Mexican and food is not as good. They boast about fresh ingredients but honestly I couldn't tell the difference from your standard, run of the mill Mexican. In addition to my enchiladas rice and beans, I ordered an Agua Fresca of guava. It was basically Agua with very little flavoring. Definitely not good. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant nor will I return.
(2)Joe W.
Wonderful great food. Always fun. Ask for stefany. Friendly staff always there to recommend something for you to try or if you are looking for something more traditional. Come by enjoy.
(4)Tiffany W.
Love the lunch margarita specials, and the food is very tasty. The wait staff is very nice but a little slow. They are slammed at lunch time all the time, but sitting at the bar gets you in quicker. Best mexican food on Woodruff Rd so far.
(4)Steve M.
In one word AMAZING! Our server highly recommended a steak based item and she was 109% correct. I had a Steak burrito and it was almost a religious experience. The meat was so flavorful, delicious and just plain extraordinary. We were enjoying it so much we ordered dessert as well. The warm brownie and vanilla ice cream melt was worthy of any 5 star restaurant. I highly recommend this place, a must try if your in Greenville!
(5)Jon D.
Good food. Texas faijaitas were great. Enchiladas super was ok. Kind of all mixed together and thrown on plate service was good. Good chips. Good value. Will def go back
(4)Laura M.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with La Parrilla! I thought going in that it was yet another Mexican restaurant just like all the others (which it kinda is), but it has its highlights. We were greeted immediately upon entering, and our server Diego came to our table immediately after we were seated. He told us that there was a Monday night Fajita special and took our drink orders. The menu was fairly typical but did have some additional interesting dishes. I was torn between a couple items, so Diego offered to help me decide. With his suggestion, I decided on the steak fajitas. I'm normally not a fajitas kinda gal, but I'm so glad I ordered them! To my surprise, the he asked me how I wanted my steak cooked. You mean I don't have to eat well done skirt steak?? I was elated! A short time later and our sizzling fajitas arrived at the table along with the rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and tortillas. My steak, perfect medium rare as I ordered despite being served on a sizzling skillet, was so tender and flavorful. The service was excellent. Our server was very personable and helpful in making suggestions. It was apparent that he knew the menu well - something that I find to be a rare quality in servers these days. We will be back - perhaps we will be regulars on Mondays for the fajita special. $8.99 for chicken or $9.99 for steak. Great value!
(4)Justin G.
Not your usual Mexican restaurant. This is a franchise out of Athens, however, it doesn't lack flavor. Very clean and well decorated. Lots of seating, well-stocked bar, and bottomless chips. I would recommend this place to anybody.
(4)Brian C.
Went on a Friday evening with another couple, and were pretty impressed. Lots of room, and a very open and well-lighted dining room. Big TV's and a big bar. Service was just about perfect; friendly, attentive, and well-informed about the menu. My wife and I have the chicken fajitas, mine with mushrooms and cheese. Prety routine, with plenty of food, including a large side of rice and beans. My friend had the steak asada, which he requested medium rare, and received the same (much to all of our amazement, given the thin nature of the steak). Beware of the margaritas! I ordered a medium frozen margarita, which was very good, but I was a little shocked when the server delivered a 32 ounce drink. I cannot imagine what the 60-ounce large would do... Four of us, having the works, totalled $105 - not bad, given the amount of food and beverages we consumed.
(4)Lydia M.
LOVE this place. We normally get the steak fajitas. But, today my husband and I tried the chile relleno and tamale. Sooooooo delicious. Bartender, Karla, rocks! She is so on point. As a former bartender, I can be a little bit persnickety about food service. She's the best! If you like a bit of extra spice, ask her for the spicy salsa with jalapeño chunks in it. We won't even bother checking out any other Mexican restaurant. laparrilla.com/locations…
(5)Michael T.
Excellent food, good prices, fast service. Best Mexican north of Mexico. :)
