I would definitely go back. My husband met the kids and I there after work and we enjoyed sitting on the patio with the ocean behind us. We got seated fast, our server was great, and the food was hot and delicious.

Love this place! It is casual, right on the pier, great service, and the food was great and affordable. The ocean was perfect and I had the fried eggplant stack, delicious! I can see why it is award winning.

Really, really good. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal, which was a great value with a beautiful view .

Went there yesterday after having a procedure done at the VA. Was pretty hungry so my wife and i thought going to the pier would be relaxing. We were greeted right away and the server seated us and took our drink order. She was back in a few minutes to take our food order. She was professional and just plain nice. Here name was Messy! Really it was. Had to ask twice. The food was so good. My wife had a cheeseburger and fries and she raved about it. I had the fried shrimp, fries and cole slaw. Fried shrimp was firm and hot! yea and so tasty. Lightly breaded. The fries were also hot and crisp, and of course the cole slaw was so good, it will make my cole slaw list for sure. Overall we were well treated, food was really good and all for under $25.If you need a day at the beach give Locklears a try.

I ordered the corn fritters omg it was awful. not impressed! Fries are good tho. just don't order the corn fritters. This place should at least have more pictures on their menu!!

If you can, go elsewhere. We were seated and were ignored for 15 minutes. We had to get the hostess and inform her of this before a waiter appeared. The food was pretty good, but I got the sense that their prime location robbed the staff of their will to try.

I have eaten there many times when we travel to Folly Beach. A very good place to eat with a great view. My favorite is their Locklear Salad with Lemon Pepper Grilled Chicken with their unique tomato, ginger, vinaigrette dressing. I know salads and this is a great one. Service was very good, serviced by a waitress who has worked with the company for 12 years. Place is convenient to the pier and beach. For beach food, they have the most consistent food quality and it's good. Our favorite place to eat at Folly.

Beautiful setting on the beach. The food was great and our waiter Shawn was absolutely awesome. He made the experience great by being kind and going above and beyond for us.

I had the fried feast, WOW. Fresh, not over cooked and was the best I have had this good in a very long time. We had six of and everyone cleaned their plates. And to be so hot outside sitting on the deck, we had an awesome breeze it was one of those picture perfect birthday nights out. The server was the only thing that took away from having 5 stars. But he did get his 20%. The wife had their signature dish, Eggplant and she gave it a 5 star. I'll go back just because it was good.

Nachos with fresh chicken and watermelon, a very special dish! A bit spicy, beans, cheese...delightful Very clean bar and staff. Chill music, just a nice vibe- i feel right at home. The beauty behind the bar - Melanie - gave me shark oil ...just ask her whats in there, yumm!!! (See foto)

Excellent she-crab soup...nice portions! Always love coming here...relaxing, nice view, courteous staff...nice place to walk straight into the pier...local souvenir shop side by side...always fun to come back!!!

I had their "famous" she-crab soup. It was luke warm/cold, and I spent 20 minutes trying to flag down the waitress before I gave up and ate some of it. It was just okay. My fiance's food was way overcooked and cold (somehow). There is much better food on Folly Beach, go find it!

lunch at Locklear's Beach City Grill, atop the pier, with expansive ocean views. A big bowl of cold boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce, a basket of really good hushpuppies, and a basket of fried okra, which was maybe the best I have ever tasted in my whole long life. Lightly breaded, crispy, just tender, delicious.WISHING ALL WAS HERE to feast on such delightful food. I intended to drink a cold beer, but, distracted by the food, I forgot to order it. Very cold club soda was a good substitute.

My husband and I ordered appetizers. We bought fried calamari Yuck! And buffalo shrimp which immediately after I ate it I felt sick. We don't believe the calamari was real it was rubbery and I saw something laying on the calamari not sure exactly what it was. We read the reviews before we went to this place and thought we try it out. Needless to say we will not be going back. The waitress and service was nice that's about it.

SHE CRAB SOUP. Enough said. But I suppose I will go on just a bit. Stopped by for a snack during the early afternoon. Ordered a bowl of she crab soup and fried okra. The SCSoup is rich, flavorful, and just a bit spicy, which adds another dimension; overall tremendous. The okra is a good sized portion with a very light fry on it-not the deep fried balls you'd get at a sports bar. Perfect snack for 2 people and great outdoor seating on top of the pier. Great views, but can get loud/busy depending on the time/day, so be aware of that. Servers are super nice and speedy. We had Sara, who rocked it! A+ for her!

I can't believe this place doesn't have a higher rating. I ate here twice (one lunch, one dinner) during my recent vacation, and had a great experience both times. The hostess was quick and accommodating. The waitstaff was GREAT. Even took the time to slow down when they were extremely busy so my nephew could order for himself despite a stutter. (Seems like this should be the norm, but it's not.) I ordered off of the daily specials, and they were really tasty. My boyfriend doesn't care for seafood, but he happily ate bites of my wahoo and grits. The calamari was really good as an appetizer. Of course, you can't beat the view from the pier. Ocean breezes make everything taste better, right?

I will start by saying that I realize we came on Memorial Day weekend and all 4 of us are either servers or former servers. First, we were told 30min and it ended up being over an hour. Second, the bartender literally yelled at all of the people waiting for drinks. He appeared to be a little in the weeds and was the only bartender for all the seats at the bar and the whole restaurant, which is poor staffing on the restaurants part but still no one was being rude and there was no reason to yell. Third, our server was friendly and seemed component but very overworked and the service was sloooow. Again, this was a staffing issue with the restaurant. The food was overall delicious and the drinks were very reasonable! We arrived at 730 and left around 10.

Locklear's is good for what it is. A decent restaurant on the pier. You are getting a great view with good food. Not outstanding but definitely not bad. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine. Our group of six (four adults, two kids) visited Locklear's twice. Both times we ate outside and were not disappointed with the view. I had the crab burger the first time, fried shrimp on the second visit. The crab burger was so so, good fries. Fried shrimp was better, hush puppies surprisingly tender unlike the rock hard ones some places serve. I had a strawberry colada (good) and later a Folly Beach Peach (better). My father in law loved his shrimp and grits. I have to say that what I will remember most about Locklear's was our great waiter, Shaun. He was so good to my son and nephew. He answered all our questions, was prompt with anything we needed and was just a pleasure to talk to. When we returned a few nights later, he remembered the boys' names which tickled them to death. He was our server again and just as top notch as the first time. We ate at several places this week but Shaun was the only server we had that was memorable (in a good way). Tip: Go around 6 p.m. before the crowds descend.

We go there not for the food, but to enjoy the ocean. The day we went was a special occasion, but right outside the outside seating was an overly loud band and a bridal party. Although we wanted to sit outside we opted to seat inside. The band was SO overly loud it hurt out ears. Soon after we got our food, the party came in the restaurant and people were standing against our table and had no respect for our space. The inside ended up being just as loud and more crowded. The food - wish I would say good things but the temperature of their fryer must have been off because the food was shiny with grease. Cudos to our server, she was very cordial.

Good to great, if you get the right things. The calamari is fantastic as are the mussels. The crab cakes are not good at all. The fried green tomatoes are very good, fried oysters are pretty good too. Notice a pattern? Yep - fried. The seafood is generally good and good portions, just stick to foods from the fryer and avoid the crab cakes. Want a steak? Go somewhere else. This place gets packed - fast. So if it's busy, expect a wait. The view can't be beat and it's a fun place to sit outside, have a few drinks and people watch. Best bets are the calamari, the best calamari in all of Charleston - tender, lightly cooked and served with fresh Parmesan.

We sat outside. The view was nice. After our appetizer came, we walked away from our table to see the view and birds were all over our table. Most of what was on the menu was fried, so if you are looking for healthy options, there were a few. My teenagers didn't find anything on the menu that they wanted, so we ended up across the street at Rita's after my husband and I ate. Overall the place was mediocre. The man running the parking lot had recommended it, saying its where the locals go. Disappointed.

Just had the worst dining experience ever! Out of 6 dishes the waitress got 4 orders wrong and then argued about it. She was very overwhelmed and it wasn't even busy. The manager came over to apologize but didn't seem to have the time to bother. Food was mediocre. She crab soup I got for my husband to go was gravy thick and revolting. If this restaurant is smart they will get rid of Mechelle. I will never return.

Awesome, everything you expect from a seaside restaurant. Great-view, Friendly staff, and food was excellent. Diana had the shrimp & grits and I had the eggplant tower. If you like crab, you will have to try the crab burger.

Walked up from beach on July 4th for late lunch. Best fried shrimp that I've had while in SC this week. Live music and friendly staff. Great view off the pier!

The food here is terrible. We ate here for the view. But if we had known how terrible the food was we would have found another view for sure. The next day we went into Charleston. A local business owner asked us where we had eaten the night before. When we said Locklear's he made a face and said "sorry". Don't eat there.

Waited for 1.5 hr for our food, it didn't come and our friend threw up in the bathroom because she took some medication thinking our food would come in normal time and it didn't. Waitress was nice but manager was kind of defensive, offered to take our friends meal off. No one in the restaurant had food at their table when we left. Kind of interested to see if their reviews blow up today because it was THAT awful. Haven't ever seen more pissed off people in one room. Talk about hangry. Definitely won't be back.

My family and I went to Locklear's last night. We love sitting outside by the ocean. I am a local and have been to Locklears many times over the last few years. Unfortunately, I have watched the law of dimimishing returns work on this restaurant. There has been an inverse relationship between quality of the food and price. Last night, my mother ordered the scallop "special"which at $22.00 consisted of 3 (three!) scallops and some vegetables. I thought it was the senior portion so I asked the manager who told me that scallops were very expensive on the market these days. Note to managers and owners of food establishments - Reducing portion size and quality of food because of market price on a 'special item" has no justification. What about balance?? If you are so concerned about the cost of that item, dont' serve the item. The message is loud an clear. You are a bottom line restaurant. Customers appreciate high quality food and good value for their money. Conversely, customers do not appreciate being taken advantage of for the bottom line. We will not be back.

Great View of the Atlantic Ocean located right on the pier. I recommend eating outside, but if you do don't feed the birds...they will never go away after that. The crab legs were really good and their fries are really hot and seasoned well. It is good for casual dining on the beach and the prices make it family friendly.

Locklear's I love this place. Nothing fancy just beach food but reliably good and a great setting for sun-downing or moon rising. If you are looking for a great burger, or fried fish this is as good as I've found on Folly Beach and the prices are reasonable. It located right there at Folly Pier, on the beach with easy, if expensive, parking close by. I am giving this four stars not because it is a great restaurant but because it is absolutely superb at what it is.

Great Oyster po' boy w/Pluff Mud Porter to wash it down. Mechell was a helpful server too. Views were spectacular.

Terrible food. We were staying on Folly Beach for the weekend, and we ended up picking one of the seafood places on Ashley at random. We picked the wrong one (should have gone to Rita's!) What we ordered: Crab & Shrimp Dip Appetizer - Horrendous. We expected a hot, creamy, cheesy dip that had been freshly cooked. What we got was a bowl of cold mayonnaise mixed with something that might have resembled shreds of "crab". There was most definitely no shrimp. They did graciously include many packets of Saltines. Be aware that this is pretty much the same stuff you get in plastic containers at the Walmart deli. Crab Cakes - Two small (2.5 inch diameter) crab cakes that still make my stomach hurt thinking about them. They had a disgusting creamy texture about them; I assume the recipe consisted of 3 parts bread crumbs, 3 parts mayonnaise, and 1 part of the same low-grade "crab" shreds from the appetizer dip. These were probably the worst part of the meal, I assume you can find much much better, even on Folly. Fried Shrimp Platter - We had a fair quantity of large-sized shrimp, but honestly they were amongst the worst we had ever had. The batter was corn-based and tasteless, and it made the shrimp taste just plain bad. We substituted the cole slaw for french fries which were mediocre at best, a little bit oily. The two hush puppies were very generic and didn't add much to the meal. All in all, we spent $50 (8 for the dip, 10 for the cakes, and a whopping $17 for the shrimp), and we left unsatisfied and a little bit queasy from all the mayo. We went at night, so there wasn't even a good view. Try somewhere else.

I want to give this place 3 stars because it's just Ok. We only came here to pass the time while we waited for dinner. We grabbed a cocktail and sat at the bar. My drink tasted terrible and it took everything within me to finish it. Locals were nice, though! Had fun chatting with a few of them. Should of had a beer....you can't mess those up.

Over the years, Locklear's has been a place where my family has gathered and cherished some of our best beach eats memories. They never fail to deliver. Good service, always quick seating, and a fantastic view. The restaurant is located on the Folly Beach Pier, and there's always an assortment of tourists and locals fishing and site-seeing. I recommend the Shrimp and Grits, and the She-Crab soup.

Great view of the ocean. Birds are beyond annoying. My seat and our table had bird poop on them when we sat down. Wife had the sirloin and shrimp. Steak was tender, flavorful and cooked as requested. I had fried shrimp and fried flounder with slaw and red rice. I'm not used to that much fried food at one setting. My bad. I have an upset stomach as I write this. Shrimp were fresh and flavorful. I think the bird poop set the tone for my evening. If I ever go back I will sit indoors.u

The food was actually pretty good, and the prices weren't bad. However; the hostess were clueless. All in all, it was a good experience. The place is right on the water, with a nice view, and there was a guy nearby, playing guitar (he was pretty decent too). I would definitely go again.

Great location, good service, mediocre food, high prices. Dinner on the deck was nice, but the actual food is pretty flavorless yet expensive. Tab was $60+ for 2 adults and zero adult beverages. If you want good seafood go elsewhere and to one of several other Folly options.

    (3)

Eh, fried seafood. Not the best I have ever had and not the worst. Great views for ok food at a high price.

Quick trip to Folly Beach to enjoy a beautiful Sunday afternoon, 72 degrees in January so we wanted to sit near the water, have a few drinks and get a bite to eat. Locklear's is about the only option in FB near the water. Daily special was a fried mahi sandwich with fries, I asked if it could be grilled/blackened and was told yes...surprising since previous reviews had complained about the fried only/no other options. Mahi/fries were average, not great but it wasn't horrible. One pound of crab legs completed our order. I'd pass on the crab legs in the future, they weren't horrible, but I'd rate them below average. Save the crab legs for somewhere else. Service was timely from order to table, refills/drinks were plentiful and we were asked several times if we needed anything else. Locklear's has the potential to be a great place (given it's location), but it's not there yet, average at best. But we will visit again...with the caveat...lowered expectations on food...just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Great location on the folly beach pier... Overlooking the ocean. Laid back, friendly, has fried seafood but also some really special food. If you want the food "better" ask for grilled fish on the sandwhich or side spinach salad instead of fries. A few tips. Great for kids. Incredible beaufort style shrimp burger. Shrimp and grits. Watch the scavenger sea birds if outside.

  • Rachel B.

With a great location right on the beach, we had to give it a try. With a party of four adults and one child at lunch time, we enjoyed our meal and the staff was great! The place could use some updating, but it's a nice easy spot to stop in for lunch.

You're paying for the ocean view and not so much the food. The prices are reasonable and the food is decent. Great place to grab a burger, soup, or salad. The views are beautiful, and this is the type of place I would like to bring my mom/grandma. Living in Charleston, I have the tendency to take the ocean for granted. On to the menu: She Crab Soup- claims to be award winning Boiled Shrimp Appetizer- my favorite Burgers/fries- your best bet Mussels- not my favorite (too much salt). I come here when I just want to sit outside and enjoy the ocean/pier. Love to people watch and watch the birds (one bird happened to snag a french fry left on the ground). I know I'm not going to get fine dining but go much more for the views.

  • DJ M.

The coolest thing about this place is the location, sitting high above a long fishing pier and looking out onto the ocean. It is too cool to be able to walk the beach, go out onto the long pier, get hungry, tired, thirsty or any excuse to sit on the upper decks and look out over the ocean! A lot of fried food on the menu and with all the local fresh fish they could offer a great variety of broiled or stuffed fish and they do not. Some steaks are offered at night and a lot of pasta dishes. Unusual items are the cajun shrimp and grits, corn fritters with a tomato marmalade and fried green tomatoes, yum. Burgers, sandwiches and salads round of the menu. It's still a cool place to sit, take in the sights and people watch, have a cold drink and be happy that you are in Folly Beach, SC.

This place is fine. It's got a great location on the pier at Folly Beach, but the food is just average. I tried the shrimp and crab dip and the shrimp burger. The dip was good, if a bit heavy on the mayo. The burger had a bit of an odd texture. Maybe it was the fact that it was shrimp, but it was a little more firm than I would've expected. The taste was fine, but nothing that blew me away. There are definitely better places to eat, but few have a better location.

  • John S.

View is wonderful, service is friendly, food is so -so. I had the shrimp / scallops combo - Folly has much better fried seafood. Good place for a drink with your honey, watching the waves and smelling the sea, but skip the dinner!!!

Living nearby, we knew better than to expect fine dining at Locklear's. It's a great spot for casual dining with an ocean view. We started with the fried green tomatoes with a dill mayonnaise, and they were quite tasty! Our son (2) ordered the fried shrimp kids meal and it arrived piping hot, with tails on. I had to quickly remove the tails and cut it into smaller pieces so it would cool before he shoved them in his mouth (still, I'd rather the food arrived too hot than too cold!). He ate all of his shrimp and eventually moved onto the Old Bay seasoned crinkle cut fries. My husband and I shared the starter and a Black and Bleu burger (we added bacon) which was phenomenal! Definitely more than I expected it to be! Our server had the kitchen cut the burger in half for us and brought it on separate plates with fries on each, way to think ahead! I added a fried green tomato to my burger and no other toppings were necessary. The burger was extraordinarily seasoned and the bacon and Bleu cheese crumbles sent it tumbling over the edge. With sodas for each of us, the bills was a more than reasonable $21. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to the pier! All in all, it was a great dining experience with stellar views. Just don't expect Locklear's to be more than it is. It's a beach side diner, you'll do we'll to remember that when you order.

Solid food - great views of the pier! Had the daily fish special - was delish!!! View of the pier was beautiful. Fried green tomatoes were decent. Portions are very fair for price. I enjoyed it and so did my family.

I visited Locklears during a June 2010 vacation. It is on the beautiful Folly Beach pier. I started with some tasty and fresh shrimp cocktail and for my main meal I ordered the fried seafood combo. It was very fresh, and being from the midwest, that was a nice surprise. This was my first 'vacation' meal after a 12-hour drive. I would definitely go there again ... for the food AND the view.

I was visiting friends in Charleston and we went for a birthday brunch/lunch with their two not-quite-five twins. It's right on the beach by the pier and it's nice and clean and bright even though it's a modest little seafood shack in most other ways ways -- simple but very tasty and imaginative fare, unpretentious fixtures and service, reasonable prices. I really enjoyed it.

Sat on the deck and enjoyed the view. We had eaten at locklear's in Mt. Pleasant several times so we disappointed when this one didn't match up. The menu was quite sparse, and not all that much seafood on it. Rather unusual for a seafood restaurant. Very average.
