This is an unexpectedly located, pleasantly surprisingly good little Thai place. Sig-o had been raving about it for months now, so we finally went. The restaurant's signage actually reads "Thai House 2"; looking at their flyer menus it looks like the original one is in Sumter. While on the small side, the restaurant is decorated appropriately "Thai" (bright colors, patterned fabrics on tables and chairs) but done so tastefully. Interestingly they have black and white "vintage" (i.e. from the 50s/60s/70s) framed photos on the walls of Florence and the surrounding area, a nice touch against the Thai-ness. While were the only ones in the place for an early dinner on a Wednesday afternoon, our server was still pleasant and attentive, which is always a good thing. I admit I was skeptical, mostly because of its location. After eating the food though I'm a fan. After getting menus I immediately passed the sushi section and went straight to the curries. We ordered a yellow curry (gaeng karee) and my usual thai favorite, a green curry (gaeng kaew wan). They have several other curry options (panang, muasaman, red, etc.) and you can also choose your protein (beef, chicken, shrimp) as well as the heat level. In short order two large portions arrived, with a bowl of jasmine rice for each of us. Both curries were great...I hate when a "Thai" place serves red, yellow, and green curry but they all end up tasting the same just with different colors. You can tell that the food is made with attention to detail and isn't just thrown together assembly line style. I am definitely going to go back and try the rest of their curries, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. They also have a selection of appetizers, soups, noodles, salads, and stir fry entrees. If I can pull myself away from the curries maybe I'll sample some of them next time. 4 stars! Prices for the curries and most entrees hover around the $8-10 range. Definitely not to be missed if you are in the vicinity of the FLO and like Thai/southeast asian cuisine.

Took 15 mins to be greeted. Another 30 mins to actually have someone take our order. Took forever for the food to come. They forgot my appetizer and brought after the dinner came out. Would have left, but was my friend had never had Thai food before and wanted to try it. Food was good, but not worth the hour wait.

To be fair I have yet to dine here but I was about to enter when son pulled up on Yelp. Well the review from the past and some that are current seem to say the same things: Bad service from staff Bad service from manager (wait!what?) Small potions big prices and so on. Perhaps a change is in order.... I live here in florence and the area is up and moving. I would love to experience your restaurant but the reviews have got to change. Just a thought.

I have a pretty good point of reference when it comes to Thai food. Living in Orange County, CA provided me with some of the best opportunities available for authentic experiences. This place was not even close. You're definitely not going to be impressed with the interior or the friendliness of the staff. The menu is also very pricey based on the portion sizes and quality. This place seems like an operation where they are just going through the motions and could not care less if you're there or if your experience is a good one. I ordered mango chicken, which they said they could make with no problem. It arrived and it was a total disappointment. The texture, flavor and mix were completely off. I ate two bites and pushed it aside. The person on duty (I cannot really call him a waiter) came by and asked about it and seemed offended that I didn't like the food. There was no offer to remake the dish or to replace it with another option. Apathy 101. When I checked out, he informed me that he gave me a deal and only charged me $10. That works out to $5 per bite of food that was poorly executed and completely unappealing. With the trend in Downtown Florence being trendier places that cater to people who appreciate good food and a great experience, this space could be better used for a parking lot or another office for a bail bondsman. After all, it is near the jail and I'm almost certain the food is better there.

Food is ok, service is terrible. Manager was very rude when I told him that party of my meal was burned. He said "some people like it like that." Tried giving this place but the benefit of the doubt but they have failed me three times. Avoid.

The food for the most part was OK, I had ordered the tofu coconut soup but it came out with chicken I politely pointed it out and the manager walked away shaking his head. Very uncomfortable moment. As I said before the food was OK but will not be returning. It's a shame as I like to support local businesses.

I've been here several times. Food Is average but the portions are really small and cost 8.99 for almost everything on the menu. Being probably the only Thai restaurant aside from red bowl in town you won't have a choice but to go here at all If you want real Thai food.

First off, the food is delicious. It's five star Thai food. My husband and I love the food here and when we lived in Florence, frequented the restaurant often because it was so tasty. The service can be a little slow but the food is cooked to order. Today we went, and the new wait staff was super incompetent. The owner, a waitress, and a new waiter were working. The new waiter took our order- we were both tired and hungry because I did a race in town that morning (a half marathon) and I was ready to eat. I wanted Thai food and remembered how good this restaurant was. It wasn't super crowded either, maybe 6-7 tables (it is a small locale, though). We waited over 45 minutes for our food (minus our appetizer, we got that as planned). When I went to tell the server/busboy/sushi guy/front clerk, I actually saw our order in the trash. I told him how long we'd been waiting and how others had already come in, ordered, and left, when we hadn't had food. He got the cooks on our order and it came out within 5-10 minutes. He said he'd give us a special discount. Had we gone to a chain restaurant, our food would've been comped. This is a local place, so I didn't expect that and was perfectly fine paying something. We still tipped the guy the full amount we would normally tip. I expected the "special discount" to be at least half off. Nope... 15%. Needless to say, I wasn't happy at all. He gave us another few dollars off after he saw how peeved I was. We ended up paying $20 for our two dishes and our spring rolls appetizer. I was glad to eat, get out of the restaurant, and get dessert next door. i really can't see myself returning to Thai House on future visits to Florence.

Great fresh spring rolls. The owner suggested Sea of Siam and Tilapia and Shrimp and both were excellent and complimented each other well as one was more sweet and the other more spicy. We ordered both the red bean ice cream and the taro custard, order the custard for sure.

Ok so this place must stay in business because there is no other Thai food for miles. I should have checked Yelp before choosing because the 3 stars average is generous. Small portions for big prices. Wait staff was nice but that is it. Tom Gai had good flavor but high chunks if in edible lemon grass and spice making it unpleasant. Didn't come with rice but did offer it up after I asked. Spicy tuna salad appetizer wasn't spicy and they ruined it by cooking the tuna. Bottom mine you need to be really craving Thai to stoop this low.

Staff amazingly sweet. Dishes lack veggies! Lots of noodles. Will give it another try.

Wow. I was on my way out of town after a meeting at a local hospital and found this gem. I have a hard time finding good Thai food here in the south. Was immediately seated, ordered spicy Pad Thai with chicken, and it was absolutely terrific. Prices are great and service friendly. Can't wait to come back. The curry smells wonderful and I'll be trying that next time.

I'm fairly picky when it comes to Thai food and I simply wasn't impressed with my first visit here. The couple running this place were super friendly but it literally took 20 minutes for one of them to take our order after we sat down. Then it took another 20 minutes to get our food which I felt was a tad overpriced for the serving size. We didn't bother waiting for the check, my husband just went over to the cash register after we were done. That being said, the food wasn't bad. I've had much better before when I lived near Northern Virginia but for Florence it might be the best there is now that Ann's Taste of Thai is gone. I ordered a Pad Prik Khing with chicken and a level 3 spice. It did taste good but for 10 dollars the portion was really small and I'm positive they used frozen green beans. Now I don't have a problem with frozen veggies but I had expected a little better for the cost. My husband ordered the pad Thai with shrimp and it did taste good but again with the portion size. For 10 or 11 dollars, he left still kind of hungry (and no he's not fat). We likely should have ordered appetizers but from previous experiences, Thai restaurants often serve you enough that you need a to-go box afterwards. So if you decide to visit here be prepared for a long wait to receive fresh, decent food at smaller serving sizes. If you have a larger appetite I definitely recommend ordering either an appetizer or a dessert with your meal.

My favorite thing here is the fresh Spring Rolls and Pad Thai. The sushi is not bad either.

Picked up Pad Thai to go from this place and when I went to my hotel, the pad Thai was dry and it smelled.

12-27-13 Followed the directions on this site and found Dargan St. only to find no Thai House and Sushi Bar. What did we do wrong? Had to give one star in order to post this - but we didn't find the restaurant so no stars would be appropriate.

Worst Thai food I've ever had! I was driving down I-95 and was looking for somewhere other than a fast food joint to have lunch. I saw this on yelp with good reviews so I thought I'd give it a go. First of all, I never would have walked in the door of this place if it weren't for the previous yelp reviews. It's not in a great area and the exterior of the place looks questionable. All that aside, I tried to keep an open mind. I ordered the shrimp rolls (how bad can you screw those up after all) and the papaya salad. My friend got the pad Thai. The shrimp rolls barely had any shrimp at all. I seriously had to look for a speck of shrimp. The papaya salad was terrible - the lettuce was brown and the salad was flavorless. Papaya salad is usually spicy...not here. The pad Thai was sticky in texture and tasteless. The service was terrible...there was a sign indicating they need waitstaff so perhaps this is a friend of the owners stepping in to help out?...she brought us an "extra side of rice".....neither of our dishes had rice. Again, I had the salad and my friend the pad Thai, which is a noodle dish...very confusing. Sadly, the steamed rice was the best thing we ate there... I will not return to this place.

Excellent thai food located in an up and coming part of town. Also has the best sushi in Florence. Have been working my way through the menu and havent had anything bad yet. My favorite is the basil duck stir fry and tofu pad thai.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place one night at the last minute. I am SO glad we gave it a try. This food is delicious. Possibly the best sushi and Thai I have had in a long time (we are from San Diego and have not had anything really authentic since we left). If you like spicy, get the Thai Hot version...nom nom nom...They have a pineapple fried rice that is delicious and the sushi is great. I highly recommend this place.

During a recent trip to Florence SC, we we not in the mood for more fast food so we pulled out Yelp and search for Thai, thinking what a long shot.. but sure enough Thai House and Sushi Bar popped up and we were only 5 mins from their location - done deal even though not many reviews. I figured, well most patrons may not be yelping. We arrived during the late lunch or early dinner period and parked beside the restro in the small lot. We were promptly seated. The decor is authentic and the staff was very pleasant and highly attentive. The menu is much larger and varied than I expected to find in Florence and the general prices were less than I'm used to paying for food of this quality. The Chief specials were about in line with most major metros. The Panang Catfish and Shrimp was a good choice. While I do not get to Florence often, I can certainly recommend that if you are in search for good, about as authentic as you are going to find in Florence, Thai, then you should give these guys a try. Cheers

I love the owner and staff, they're always friendly. The food is reliably good, but they do occassionally over spice things (that's a good thing because I like it HOT, but some of my friends can't handle the heat.) I can't talk much about their sushi, as I've only had a cucumber roll from there, but that was pretty good. My daughter loved watching him make it just for her - please don't hold me to the sushi though, I don't eat it. The place is always clean, including the restrooms and the food is tasty and pretty quick considering. The owner/manager is great with kids and my girls LOVE him and have taken to calling him uncle! Over all, I love this place and would recommend it to anyone.

Incredible food! One of Florence's best.

This is a pretty good Thai place, considering the limited options in Florence. I had the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) and got it Thai hot. It came out pretty nice, although it could've been spicier (I love spicy food). I also had a large seafood Tom Yum to share with my husband. While the soup was delicious, despite the unusually fishy taste, the portion was way too small to share between 2 people. Same goes for my pad kee mao. Had the portions been bigger, this place would've been worth the $40+ spent. Sadly, I wouldn't go back here again.

Hire some staff!!! No front of house person. No busser..the food was excellent but the 1 hour wait for our dinner and 20 minutes waiting for our check diminished the experience greatly. Could have been 5 stars!

I've been only once -- for lunch. My fried rice was inedibly salty, & I like salt usually. Nor was it fresh -- just dipped up from somewhere. The waitresses were very pleasant & the service was fast (see fried rice comment). I am sure I'll go back, when someone else is making the decision. If so, & if it turns out I just had some bad luck one time, I'll amend this review.

Small place off the main road. Very polite and attentive staff. The food is very good. As close to authentic as you can get. In my opinion, way superior to the other Thai joint in Florence. The duck dishes are definitely recommended. The curries are also very good. I come from a bigger city with lots of Thai places . . . I am glad I found this little place!

This place has been here in Florence for a couple of years now. It was a big surprise to see a Thai restaurant and a sushi joint all in one open in one location. Florence isn't known for its culinary diversity and anything besides a new Burger King or Taco Bell is cause for celebration. Since this place is located near my workplace we usually end up here for social gatherings or nice meal after a long day. The sig-o immediately blessed this place with four stars which should be respected since he is from San Diego where there are 3 of these places in every shopping complex. Not sure if the gentleman that waits the tables all the time actually owns this place but he is always there. Service is very good when they aren't crowded but can lag on weekend nights when this place tends to fill up. The locals like to bring guests here to show them that Florence isn't as backwoods as everyone thinks it is. They have a fairly extensive menu with something for just about everyone. A few tips: Appetizers: Usually all pretty good. Spring rolls are good just about everywhere you go and its no different here. Other favorites include the shrimp blanket, calamari, and coconut shrimp. I thought I was going to be brave and order their Tom Yum Goong soup Thai Hot one visit and this didn't end well for my tongue. If you get any of their soups go for mild or you will pay for it Entrees: Shrimp Fried Rice is good. Their Pad Seelew is not as good as Ann's Taste of Thai down the street. I always go for their C-3 Muasaman Curry or their C-6 Gaeng Karee. Both curries are really tasty and not too hot if you get the mild. They have a lot of chef specials which run around $15-$16 but I have never tried any of them. They also have duck on the menu. Their sushi is good but not as good as Miyami's. You can't go wrong with most items on their menu. A small gem in Florence that is sure to get an uptick in business once the performing arts center across the street gets going.

Just ate at Thai House a few days ago when I was back in Florence, and it was as good as ever. I see from some of the other reviews here that some folks are complaining about the service and there not being enough wait staff. Maybe the owner has been checking out Yelp because when I came in for dinner I think they had too much staff. The owner was there as always making the rounds and waiting on tables but also a young woman and man were waiting tables and acting as hosts as well. For such a small place I was surprised. We got our appetizers, drinks, and food quickly. The food was great, and it's wonderful to have a Thai restaurant in Florence in the first place. I hope other people recognize that as well and support the place. I've seen a lot of good ethnic restaurants go out of business in Florence. The place was pretty packed when I was there so I guess so far so good. Check them out if you're in Florence looking for Thai. You won't be sorry.

I came on a Monday night and get the volcano fish on medium. OMG - that is a HOT one! Luckily eatable and delicious, I was glad that I didn't listen and get hot. Then we had sticky rice with mango (really... can you go wrong with this) and four kind of ice cream (red bean, green tea, coconut and mango). I was not a fan of the green tea ice cream. the rest was great. the only complain I have is... service is amazingly slow. If only I haven't had sticky rice with mango for a while, I wouldn't want to wait that long.
