Mac and Cheese - this is the kind I like BAKED with Egg and Cheese and not too much of either, just the right amount! This dish was the best thing I tasted here. By itself this dish gets better than four yelp stars! Collard Greens - Great Flavor an easy 4 stars Corn Bread - Very good, would have been better if served with Butter instead of C.C. spread Fried Squash - Great Flavor, Batter is TOOOOO Thick and greasy, keep that in mind if you like Thick and Greasy Bama Slaw is thinly sliced Cabbage (probably with a Machine) with Thousand Island Dressing Service is about what you would expect except all the staff is late teens early 20's mostly Female and they love to talk and socialize, about what you would expect right? If you have a Handsome Man (my Wife DOES) you better claim him and sit beside him... Make it know he is YOURS!!!

Stopped here for dinner while in Florence for work. We try to hit more local places and this SC chain wasn't bad at all. Lots of classic southern sides to choose from and the price was great for the amount of food you get. Totally keeping this on the list if we come back down.

Terrible greasy food that we waited way too long for that was luke warm when it finally did come. Could hear shouting from the kitchen the entire time. Would never come back again.

Just passing through on the way to Florida, stopped here to eat and what a lovely find! The fried catfish, collards and cornbread dressing were so good! Chicken and waffles were fantastic as well as pork chop sandwich and fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and Mac and cheese. The servers were cheerful and very attentive. Just an all around awesome little southern restaurant.

This place is new to the Pee Dee, a long-time family chain from Columbia, SC. They have a menu full of Southern favorites, daily specials. The staff is poorly trained, not very eager to serve. The manager for the breakfast shift made extensive explanations/excuses for poorly presented food. The waitress declared it not to be her job to assure the food to be appetising when served. Wow, don't have high expectations of this crowd. If it doesn't come from a box, can or plastic freezer pouch, you probably won't be eating it here. Nothing is fresh. I had turkey and dressing on a Sunday. The turkey was slices from a loaf, the dressing was a gummy, salty goop. The gravy was quite yellow, obviously canned. Yuck! The mashed potatoes were from dehydrated fare. Breakfast is less pre-prepared. When they have them, the "skillet" apples are microwaved from a can, not anywhere near a skillet preparation. The potatoes served are from a frozen package. There's nary a smidgen of butter, either. Cheap margarine and jellies are the norm. They do pretend to serve creamed chipped beef over toast or biscuits. That's a joke! It's really their white gravy poured over a few thin squares of dried beef. A pale imitation of the real breakfast dish the Army has come to admire as SOS. Skip it! I've eaten here several times, but the lack of pride in well prepared, served food that tastes fresh rather than canned or frozen is too daunting for my endurance. I'm sighing, "Uncle" and giving up. This is a waste of the time and effort to enjoy a meal out.

We stopped by here on a trip through Florence because a friend raved about it. Based on the hype, I expected the kind of food that you get at a Dinner on the Grounds Sunday Afternoon event at a church. Boy, was I ever disappointed. The service was just terrible. At the very least, I expect for the bread to be replenished and for my drink not to be empty for more than a few minutes. They could not even keep up with this. When I asked about the specials, my attention was directed to a chalk board across the room and I was told to read it. The volume was very low so there was no way to blame this on a busy period. Now for the food. Everything tasted the same. I know this is not a place to go if you are remotely health conscious but this was a rare occasion and I deferred to my friend who said the place was great. The food tasted as if it may have all been cooked in the same pot/pan or bowl without it being cleaned in between. Disgusting does not begin to describe the taste and texture. It was the type of food that would have to improve to be described as institutional. My friend who liked the place cleaned his plate and continued to rave about the quality. I suppose it may be a matter of taste but I grew up on great Southern cooking and this absolutely does not qualify. Do yourself a favor. Avoid this place and choose one of the many nearby Drive-Thrus for fast food.

A few weeks ago our family was in Florence visiting a family member in the hospital and we decided to give Lizard's Thicket a try for breakfast. Yesterday, I was back in the area for another hospital visit, and decided to eat breakfast at the Lizard's Thicket, again. Here's the rundown....the food is awesome with huge portions. Being a born and bred New Englander, eating grits, gravy and biscuits for breakfast in different, but I really liked it. The service is quick, and I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. I wish I could stop here with the commentary, and give the place "5 Stars" - but there's more. On both visits I sat near the waitresses station, and I sure learned a lot about the employee/management relationship at this location. There was a lot of complaining about the management between the waitresses. Both visits it went on for the entire time I was at the restaurant, and NEVER stopped. Even though I was seated near the waitresses station looking at them, it NEVER stopped. I loved hearing the waitresses complaining about the manager, and telling each other what they intend to say and do. Well, that is until the manager would unexpectedly walk out of one of the kitchen doors near the waitresses station, which would cause the employees to quickly scurry away. Mmmmm? What happened to telling the manager off? Even when the hostess sat me at my table she complained to the manager that my waitress was on an unscheduled break. So, if you want really great food with the drama, this is your place. If you want to save some money, just cook at home and watch a one of the daytime soap operas. I won't be back.

What can I say about this place? It really depends on what you get to eat. Me and my girlfriend ate here last night and for the most part, the food was rather bland. I got country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, potato salad, and cornbread. My girlfriend got a rib-eye steak, fries, toss salad, and rolls. With mine, the country fried steak was good and the mashed potatoes were good, but the green beans tasted a bit old or from a can and the potato salad tasted like it was bought from Wal-Mart in those plastic jugs. The cornbread was dry and tasted bland. With my girlfriend's food, the steak she had was very dry and didn't come with the fried onions that were supposed to come with it. The fries were not salted at all. She did say the salad was alright. The rolls were like the kind you buy in a package at the store and were hard as a rock and inedible. The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because the waitress we had was nice, friendly, and kept our drinks filled.

I was catered Lizard's Thicket at work, and the food was great! If you appreciate simple southern food, then Lizard's Thicket will satisfy your taste buds!

I've been more than once. Each time I was disappointed. Side orders were barely warm. Took a very long time to get drinks refilled. The food definitely is not all its cracked up to be.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food based on the scathing reviews. We were looking for a fast breakfast with higher quality food than an ihop or Waffle House and this place was the right pick. They have a drive through perfect for breakfast on the go. I recommend the biscuits and grits, they where absolutely mouthwatering. My omelette was decent and my sister's biscuit egg sandwich was ah fabulous. If your on the go, this is the place to go.

Pulled up Yelp. Searched closest. I knew at least half of these reviews had to be crap! Been eating at these Lizard Thickets for years. Glad to find this here! Delicious as usual!

Family tradition, dining out on Thanksgiving. This year we dined at lizard's Thicket. Surprisingly the restaurant was not overwhelmingly busy. We arrived shortly after 11 to miss the crowd. Since we arrive before 1130 we have option of both the breakfast and the lunch menu. As it was Thanksgiving they were also offering a turkey and dressing special. Before I go any farther I have to say that we had an excellent server. He was friendly and attentive, and willing to chat. My parents both ordered the turkey with dressing, and my Mom ordered the fried okra and fried squash as sides. Despite not being huge turkey fans, they both enjoyed their meals. I had the ham dinner with black eyed peas, green beans and a biscuit. It was all very good, BUT as I've mentioned before- why are people so stingy with green bean portions? Also worth noting, the biscuit was good!! I feel like often times biscuits are frozen and simply not worth the calories- not the case here. My sister had the fried chicken, green beans and creamed corn. She said all of it was very good. For dessert my sister had banana pudding and my parents had the chocolate pie. Everything was great. Overall we really enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal. I'd absolutely dine here again- holiday or not!
