The food is great, service is very polite, but the prices are my main complaint. They are as high as that of a downtown Greenville restaurant not of a nice little sandwich shop in small town Easley. Even with all the great art displayed the food is just not worth what they charge.

I visited The Starving Artist on my way home from a volleyball tournament that was held in Easley. I came with my sister and my dad. We ate Sunday Brunch here. My sister got a spinach and feta quiche and a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The quiche was average tasting and quite small but the salad was good. My dad got Veggie Bennies (not sure if thats the right name) and a side of grits. When I asked what he thought he said "it was alright" the grits were very plain I got a salmon bagel sandwich. I thought it was very good despite the overwhelming amount of cream cheese. Our waitress was kind but forgot to refill drinks almost the entire time. Location is easy to find and the restaurant itself is very unique and cute.

I had the hot pastrami on pretzel bun, with chips & pickle, while my wife had the quiche. The service and food are good and the decor and artwork displays make for a nice atmosphere. The lunch menu was typical sandwich shoppe fare, but it's a good choice if you're in the area looking for some decent food.

I've eaten their food multiple times but I've recently found that I can relax here very easily. I'm a busy personality with a busy life and this place is pleasant, the staff is wonderful and attitude-free, and everything is just... lovely. Not to forget the food: I chose this place due to the local-organic food quality that the try to employ. I had to run out today, so I chose this place as a healthy replacement for my own cooking. (the pecan pie might not have been my healthiest choice but it is divinely tasty!)

My family frequents the Starving Artist Cafe. Great atmosphere, varied menu, relaxing vibe. Great place to bring the kids OR come for date night. The kids love the Mac n Cheese. I love to stop in for quiet morning coffee and breakfast. The live weekend dinner music really sets this place apart from other Easley restaurants. It's a charming place. Check it out.

This was a wonderful experience, very tasty, homemade style food!! Its not fast food and it's not a large commercial kitchen, these ladies do an outstanding job, sure they may run out of menu items but we know why!! We had lunch and dinner there last week... Bert C.

Wow!! This place has a great laid back atmosphere. Really cool decor inside, huge windows=tons of natural light and good people watching, ha. I tried the "create your own sandwich with Black Forest ham and cheddar. Very delicious and crispy outside made for a great mouth punch!! Only annoyance was the owner kept talking (complaining) about her finances to some other patrons (can only assume they were her friends) as I was trying to get some work done on my computer. If not for that, I would have given 5stars. The place is really cool, even showcasing some local art and jewelry.

Service was SUPER polite and attentive. The food was just OK. I ordered the Irish Bangers breakfast plus hash browns. The sausage was perfect, coffee was flavorful, biscuit was standard, eggs (which I ordered poached) were the right kind of runny but not super warm, and the hash browns were dry, not warm, and unseasoned. I ended up mixing my runny eggs with the potatoes for some sense of moisture. It wasn't until I left that I realized the dish was supposed to come with grits. Instead of adding hashbrowns to the dish, grits were subbed for hash browns, but I was still charged for an individual side. It's two dollars so it's not a huge deal but who knows, I could have missed out on some super awesome cheese grits that would make me forget about the dry hash browns. This place is really cute and affordable! The staff was great and the next time I'm visiting the upstate, I might go back. I'll just skip the potatoes and pay more attention to my bill. :)

You typical overpriced soup, salad, and sandwich place. I had the French dip, which was good. I took out some clients and they all seemed to enjoy their meals. Between the 4 of us, we ordered two deserts. I tried the peach cobbler. It was not what I expected. It was served a little cooler than room temperature. The peaches were very sour and the cobbler should have been served warm/hot since it was served with ice cream. The deserts were small, especially for the price. I was shocked when I got the bill, it average around $20 per person. I just expect a little more for that price in Easley. Again the food is not bad, but if I wanted to spend $20 per person, I would eat in Greenville and choose something other than sandwiches.

This was the worst dining experience I've had in quite some time. The servers were completely inexperienced (not knowing the menu, forgetting what I ordered, not bringing refills, not being able to process checks, bring the wrong change back to the table behind us), every guest in there was aggravated! There was hair in my sandwich, the cook that prepared my sandwich made me a new one once I found the hair and then sat down 2 tables over from me to eat lunch! Definitely not what I would EVER allow in my establishment. I was shocked! The chef was sick that day and boy you could tell she wasn't there. We've dined there a couple times in the past but after this visit, we certainly won't be back. The restaurant needs some strong leadership in place soon or it won't be in business much longer.

This place is awesome. Farm to table in Easley! Owners are fantastic say hi to Vicki. Breakfast voted best in upstate and in Easley! Best cafe in upstate by Greenville news readers! Best kept secret in downtown Easley!

My wife had the Reuben with pasta salad, I had the Cuban with Broccoli salad. Sandwiches & salads were very good to outstanding. Service was prompt and pleasant. We will be going back as often as we can. Ample parking across the street is a plus.

I have to agree with a previous poster, the service was lacking. While we were greeted when we walked in, pretty much from there on out it was poor. Once the food was served to us it was like they were done with us and never showed back up at our table until we finally had to flag another person down to get our check. The breakfast was OK, not excellent, not great, but OK. Did it make me think, OH dang I gotta come back here and try some other dishes, nope not really. And I can't even believe I'm going to say this, being a Yankee and all, but OK here goes, the grits were blah. Yes I just commented on the quality and flavor of grits. All that keeps flashing through my mind is the scene from My Cousin Vinny and Joe Pesci is interrogating the guy on the stand about how no self respecting Southerner would use instant grits and did he have some sort of magic grits. Well the Starving Artist Cafe surely did not have magic grits and who knows maybe they were instant grits. Sure we might give them another go for lunch or something. It's a cool place with great artwork. But sitting around with no drink refills, no "how was everything" no is their anything else I can get you" basically toss our plates down and pull a magic disappearing act, ya not too cool.

This was a great local dive we found on Yelp and decided to give it a try! WOW what a GREAT decision. The staff was awesome and the local food was to die for. Their entire menu was fresh. Went with my two children and they made them feel welcome and gave them special treatment. We even got tickets to a local play in town for later the same night! If you are in the area it is a must stop! The art in their was a plus too!

The location is good - and the past restaurant in this location was awesome. We decided to try the Starving Artist this weekend and were sadly disappointed. Not everything was bad, but nothing was outstanding. The waitstaff seemed oblivious to many things, such as trying to take away my 3/4 full coffee cup with my salad, not refilling drinks, and initially not even providing us with menus. The meal was ok, nothing to write home about. To add to the problem, our party of four ended up ordering 5 things that they were out of. The desserts were truly lackluster - ranging from mildly bland and inconsistent heating on one dish, to being soupy as if the dish had been around for a number of days and had obliterated the crust in the case of pecan pie. The strawberry cake went from incredibly sweet to an almost baking powder taste in the same slice. The final straw for us was seeing a waitress take a cup of cream from one party and give that same cup to another table. I had high hopes for this particular venue, but have been disappointed; we won't be visiting again.

Service was ok food was ok. The mushroom soup was outstanding but the rest of the meal lacked flavor. Got the French dip and mom ordered a chicken salad sandwich. Nothing that wants to make me come back.

Part café, part art gallery, The Starving Artist Café was a wonderful surprise to encounter in Easley, SC! Located in a pleasant building with lots of light / glass, this café reminded us of a miniature, South Carolina edition of Café Borrone in Menlo Park, CA. Borrone's has Kepler's Bookstore in the same building. The Starving Artist has its gallery. Staff is extremely pleasant. We were pleased our server was from New Jersey. We visited for dinner on a Friday night (the restaurant also offers breakfast and lunch). Their dinner menu goes well beyond typical café fare. My wife, Susan, had Rigatoni alla Sara - a pink vodka sauce - that was lovely; cream was employed sparingly, and allowing the roasted tomatoes and garlic to take center stage. I had their Seafood Pot Pie. It was good (and hearty!), but ingredients and seasoning didn't retain the same individuality as in Susan's rigatoni. A friend who has strong dietary preferences also dined with us. We were thrilled that the kitchen not only accommodated every request, but graciously "deconstructed" their shrimp and grits entée to eliminate the ingredients our friend couldn't eat. Similarly, when the end of the meal arrived, they happily prepared a dessert fresh strawberries with a touch of whipped cream, though that was not a menu option. Meanwhile, Susan & I splurged calories on the chocolate torta di ricotta (ricotta cake). Live music by songwriter & guitarist, Shain Stewart, completed the evening. Shain was personable, talented, and sufficiently "present" to allow us to enjoy his entertainment, but did not overwhelm the room or prevent conversation. A wonderfully pleasant eveing. Highly recommended and we will return.

Service was pretty sad. We had a new girl and it showed. She was rushing us and not attentive to bringing silverware or my drink. Food was pretty bad. I had the veggie quiche and salad. The greens were mixed but were far past their shelf life with black soggy greens throughout. The quiche had a decent flavor but the egg was gelatinous and not thoroughly cooked. Even the sweet tea was instant and more resemblant of sugar water. My other guests were not impressed either, grits were awful with no taste. Cornbread hash was the only average to decent review. We wish we would have gone to Michael's next door instead. We won't be back or recommending to friends.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great music. Great service. We just happened to find this place and will be driving the distance to come back again.

Really enjoyed the Hope wine dinner last night. A very good value. High points were the pizza course (shaved Brussel sprouts with pork belly), the stuffed mushroom course, and the delicious home-made pistachio ice cream dessert. Plenty of wine throughout as well.

My husband and I stopped in right as the Cafe had gone over to their dinner menu. It was very quiet when we got there, but it was also not really time for the Saturday dinner crowd to show up, so we had the place almost to ourselves. We ordered water to drink to start with, and our waitress (a friendly lady who we ended up staying a little later just to chat with after our meal) gave us just the right amount of time to decide on an appetizer. We ordered the Baked Brie with Apples to split - the brie came perfectly warm, with crushed almonds on top of it, served with an apple-and-fig-jam, Granny Smith apple slices, fresh strawberries, and some nice crackers alongside. My husband ended up having the beer special for dinner (Yuengling) and I had the house Sauvignon Blanc to drink - for a house wine, I was very impressed by it. I am not generally big on dry whites, but since I was having seafood I wanted to compliment my dinner. The Sauvignon Blanc was good enough that I considered a second glass, which is very rare for me with dry wines. I had the Calimari with Garlic, Olive Oil, and Pancetta over Linguini and it was perfect. The calimari was not rubbery, but perfectly tender. The Pancetta, in little chunks floating in the delicious seafood broth at the bottom of the bowl, added a lot of flavor but never overtook the squid. Jason had their dinner special, the Smoked Trout salad - it came with tomatoes, mixed greens, some other fresh veggies, and an amazing sweet croissant on the side. He all but inhaled his food. We were also served a basket of warm bread with butter alongside our dinner. All in all, the meal was incredible and we would love to go back. I definitely recommend this as THE place to stop on this side of Easley. I work in Pickens and drive right past the Cafe every day... it makes me consider stopping by to see what their BREAKFAST menu is like some morning...

Oh my, what a Saturday evening we had at The Starving Artist Cafe wine tasting dinner. Now remember, this was in EASLEY, SC. For $25 per person we were treated to six courses and six wines. Interestingly each different One Hope wine (sponsored by Robert Mondavi, JR) has a cause attached to every sale. 1. Chardonnay (Breast Cancer) - served with a "Baked Brie Plate with Fruit". Local mountain apple slices, a bang up fig preserve made locally, all accompanied by a small half wheel hot brie & homemade round soft loaves with additional pita bread. Oh, I forgot the grapes, strawberries, etc. 2. Merlot (Aids Awareness) - served with a "Hot and Cold Antipasto Plate". This plate was so large that most people were already asking for doggy bags to go. Everything was served atop a gregarious arrangement of different lettuces. Rolled salami, spinach souffle in mushroom buttons, pickled asparagus, six stuffed clams, a wonderfully mild goat cheese slab plus the best white cheddar I've ever eaten, an assortment of olives, and a spicy red button pepper, And sure, there were other things that I've forgotten. The two of us were so amazed at this point, this would have been enough for the entire evening, but wait, ~ there were four more courses to go . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3. Sauvignon Blanc (The Planet) - served with a "Chicken Piccata". The combination of lemon, capers and sauteed chicken just melted in our mouths. One patron's quick comment was, "better than the Wiener Schnitzel we got in Vienna." Oh well, onward and forward we ate . . . . . . . . . . . . 4. Zinfandel (Troops) - served with "Warm Duck Salad over Spinach". Dern, the zin and duck went so well together. Finally the main course. 5. Cabernet Sauvignon (Autism Research) - served with "Rack of Lamb" served on a cold base of barley, rice, feta cheese, raisins, with cinnamon flavors. The bright red center lamb meat added color and was perfectly cooked. Just amazing. Can I go home now, ~ ~ (no). 6. Moscato D'Asti (an addition to the meal, but not part of the One Hope wine listings) - served with "Berries with Vanilla Bean Custard". Warm with fresh whole raspberries and small strawberry pieces arranged in a spiral sweep within the glass. Enough said, you get the point of our ratings

Found this place via yelp! Awesome place with different things in the menu weekly bc they buy from local farmers. Loved it over all. Really "chill" like place and even the chef came out to talk to us.

Great little cafe with friendly courteous staff. Location is great, right in old town section of Easley with trains rolling by often to enhance the atmosphere.
