This is home cooking at its best: Unpretentious, ridiculously inexpensive, friendly, and soul-enriching. Placed idyllically on the lost-to-time town square, Jewel's isn't the place you go to check out the latest nouveau variation on Southern cuisine. What you get is straight out food yo mama cooked (or the mama of yo Southern friend), in an environment the locals (and their mama's) also choose to dine in. Another Yelper did a great job of describing the unique order process. I ordered baked chicken, rice with gravy, and a side salad. All had excellent flavor. My wife had the chicken salad, which she found a bit mushy for her taste, though she loved my mini cornbread bites. Drink choices are tea (sweet, naturally), lemonade, and water; don't expect more. It's so hard nowadays to resist the urge to adapt your menu to suit the kale and wine pairing crowd. My guess is that Jewel's will be serving its same menu long after the kale has wilted, the wine pairings have divorced, and Chef Gordon Ramsey has returned to his British fish and chips shop.

I've always been a little apprehensive to try this place because I don't like going to new restaurants where I can't scope out the interior before I go in. I've always heard good things about it but have never had the opportunity because it is only opened M-F for lunch, and I worked out of town. I have just recently started working across the street from Jewel's and I finally got a chance to try it. It is a meat and three sides place, but they give you a lot of choices each day and the food is very tasty. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very cozy and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. When you walk in, they give you a pencil and there are small pieces of paper on the table to write down the items you would like to order. The waitress will come and pick it up and bring back your food once it is ready. They also give you small biscuits and cornbread muffins to go with your meal, which were delicious. You will leave with a satisfied belly and wallet, for a standard meat and three sides with drink runs around $9, not too bad. I think they may do catering, but I'm not sure.

WOW!!!! This place is great. I grew up on good southern cooking. This brought back many memories of Grandma's cooking.

Amazing food! Our family stopped here on the way to Charleston and we were all very satisfied by both the service and portion size. If you are in the area and love southern food stop here.

Best place in Darlington for lunch. Known for their meat and 2 or meat and 3. Everything I've had is good. Only open M-F during lunch.
