I am here at an odd time and I'm the only person in the restaurant. Based on the loud TVs and all the hard surfaces, I imagine if this place was busy, it would be very noisy. So, you could sit on the patio. I ordered a simple burger on my first visit. I really wanted to taste the burger without tons of toppings. I found the burger needed seasoning beyond "char." I understand the concept of a burger cooked on a seasoned flat top (I'm assuming that's how it was cooked), but the main flavor was from the charred outside. It didn't seem to have much flavor besides that. Maybe that's why they offer so many toppings: burger as topping delivery system. The texture was interesting. The burger was okay. There is salt on the table and I used it. I also got the Chili Cheese Tots and I would return just for these. It's your standard basket of tots, but the spicy cheese sauce is very tasty. I can't tell much about the chili; it is smothered in CHEESE. It is mildly spicy, but I am sniffling. The portion is large enough to share. The decor is sporty-industrial-loft and pleasant. Everything seems clean. The service was fast and friendly. I will return to try the chicken and onion rings.

The burgers here are excellent and the service ain't bad either. You can tell that they really cared about and payed attention to the way their burgers turned out and each one is pretty damn good in its own way. I'd definitely come back. Also, they have a two for Tuesday deal which starts at 4 and ends at 9 when they close.

Ate here awhile back and will come back. Friendly staff and a delicious AMERICAN burger! Better experience than the surrounding burger joints! Wish I could remember which one I had!

I've been here twice in the past month. The burgers are good, fresh and made to order with the toppings of your choice. I ordered a salad that wasn't very good and split an order of onion rings that were terrible. They were overcooked and the breading so hard, it cut my lip! The service is hit or miss. The first time I went in the cashier completely messed my order up and then when food came out the runners had no idea what table it went to and just wandered around for a while. The second time service was right on and there were no problems. Overall, it's an okay place to go to grab a quick dinner.

Appearance is great...the place is clean and the customer is decent... Love the bar and the flat screens around the place...the outdoor patio is decent also with a nicely placed camera...the plaza is pretty decent also Burger: now I was expecting a wow factor but I wasn't impressed...I make a better burger at home and when I go out I am always looking for the twist and this place didn't provide it. The fries were plain and the burger was ok.... Overall experience...I would have to say I wouldn't give this place a second chance...

Well for starters, the burgers are fantastic, point blank period! They have every topping imaginable, including guacamole & fried eggs. Plus, they run specials every now then (i.e. Working Women Wednesdays w/ cocktails and 50% off appetizers). Definitely coming back soon.

Great service but the burgers were just ok. If you're going to specialize in one thing I would have expected a better burger. The onion rings however made up for the burger.

We've tried American Roadside twice now and with 4 in our family each trying a different meal each time...we've yet to be disappointed. The beef and turkey burgers are lean and high quality. Take advantage of the military discount if you qualify.

Went with my wife, terrible service. They brought out one burger and two fries. How do you totally forget someone's entree? Flagged down a waitress and eventually got my burger. It was nothing special and definitely overpriced even if it had arrived on time. Should've gone to Wendy's.

Good food. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. My burger was awesome and my daughter said her hot dog was delicious. She also said they have the best Oreo milkshake in town.

Come for the burgers and stay for the lugnuts! I've been to American Roadside twice now and had a wonderful experience both times. The restaurant itself is a cool place to hang out. The decor is clean with a bit of throw back vibe. There is also a nice patio at the front for catching some sun. The staff have been friendly and patient while I've perused their menu trying to make up my mind. I was in the mood for a burger one day so a friend and I went for lunch. The burgers are big and I made the "mistake" of getting a double cheeseburger which was too big but oh so delicious. You can pick one of the signature burgers or create your own. They also have a selection of sandwiches and salads including a vegetarian black bean burger. Sides include fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, mac and cheese and tater tots. I will never say no to tots but I have tried the fries and the onion rings and all were delicious... fried deliciousness! So after you eat all that you are going to be a bit sluggish for the rest of the day. There's no getting around it so you might as well order some lugnuts and/or cinnabolts. They are warm doughnut holes covered in powdered sugar or cinnamon. I've had the lugnuts. They are ridiculously light and sweet. I imagine they are a main food group for angels. I don't have one bad thing to say except that it's not exactly the healthiest food under the sun but they aren't marketing it that way. Craving a juicy burger or sandwich, delicious sides and a little something sweet to top it off? American Roadside might just be your place. What they do... they do well. Just be prepared to take an afternoon nap to recover.

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I passed the one in Southpark in Charlotte. I don't know if it was just me (maybe I suck at creating my own, or the fact that I'm in love with a certain burger joint that's within "arm's reach" of this place) but I didn't think it was that great. I got the cheeseburger with A.R.B. Sauce (house special sauce of horseradish, mayo, & ketchup) Mayo, Lettuce, Grilled Onions, and a Fried Egg (cuz I like that option)... bleh He got the Chipotle coated wings and said that they just tasted hot... not really like Chipotle. We shared the onion rings & fries with A.R.B. & honey mustard dipping sauces which were decent (dipping sauces always make me happier). The customer service was good and it wasn't too busy (we ate around 1:30)... Unfortunately I won't be craving this place anytime soon.

Ten televisions Light up tiny side portions. Needs more fries, less screens.

This is a great place to get a burger when you don't want the fuss or price that comes with some of the other burger joints in Columbia. (Burger Tavern, Pawleys, etc) You order at a cashier and they bring your food out UNLESS you are smart and you sit at the bar. The bartender will wait on you just like a regular restaurant. Plus they have a $2 house lager draft. Nothing special but it's cheap.

The decor is nice and they have flat screen televisions. I would say that their burgers are just okay. The service isn't too bad. I would rather eat Five Guys any day over this place.

Location "Moved" but has never moved. Don't know why an address change was not done unless it was to weed out bad reviews? Review for the "old" or EXACT SAME location below. Living off of Garner's Ferry Rd I feel like I am in the middle of the 2013 Burger War. American Roadside, Burger Tavern 77, Pawleys, SmashBurger, Five Guys, etc. This is bad news for American Roadside. Both burgers purchased were really bad, realllly bad. I would have rather had Hardees hands down. Meat was not good, basic grocery store bun, really bad/cheap bacon. Sweet potato fries are pulled out of a frozen bag, fried and served without salt, seasoning or anything else. I don't see myself ever going back with the other better options literally surrounding this place.

Anywhere serving tater tots can count me as a fan. Could I just buy a jumbo bag myself from Publix? Of course, but it's too dangerous to keep those in the house! I also really enjoy their veggie burger and "free" toppings. Plus the $2 beer doesn't suck. Every time we visit they aren't busy, even when there's a line out the door on weekend nights at other spots. So that makes me wonder how long they'll survive, but I sure hope they do. They are much cheaper than Burger Tavern 77 and just as good in my opinion, although the portions are a bit smaller. (I love BT77 too by the way.)

Worst burgers ever. Come here if you want a stomach ache that keeps you sick all day and night.

I've eaten here a few times in past 5 or 6 years. The new location is a much nicer place, but the food is the same. Excellent toppings on the burgers, but the meat they use has always been a little too bland for a burger. The buns, toppings, and sides help overcome the deficiency, and the hot dogs are excellent, but like a lot of places that try to sell a "better" burger, AR needs to realize that lean is not better when it comes to steak or burgers. Lean = cardboard, and AR's pattys are no exception. The fact that the website shows a super-lean cut of meat to advertise the burgers means they just don't get what makes a real backyard burger great. Everything else about the place, including the shakes, elevates this place to a 4. With real burger meat, this place could be a 5.

Excellent service and the food is very good. One entree we had was chicken fingers with hottest wing sauce and chipotle ranch. Outstanding!

With Columbia having a plethora of burger joints this one has had the best service out of all of them IMO. Always greeted with a smile and everyone very knowledgable about what is on the menu. I would have give this place a 3 if I was just rating the food. Hamburgers are good but nothing spectacular.. Would defiantly choose smashburger over this place(right across the road) But they do offer several TV's and 6 beers on tap and for some reason never seen to be crowded at all in the several visits that I have been here. Either way great overall!
