Tried this place for the first time tonight. Wasn't overly impressed. Felt it was a very average salad. The prices are a little high considering they kind of skim on the toppings. They do have a wide variety of things to pick from and I like that you can do a salad or wrap. Overall, I guess I would come in here if I was craving a quick salad on the go. But I feel you can get better salads elsewhere on King St. it's just there aren't many fast food like options when it comes to healthier options. So I guess that's something they have going for them. I would maybe come back to try a wrap to see if that's maybe a bit more impressive.

What a fantastic experience! In town for business meetings and meeting planning, so we were sort of obligated to eat at the fancier places for dinner. We wanted something light, healthy, and fast as we made our way from venue to venue and meeting to meeting. LOVE this concept! The staff was friendly, knew what flavors to mix together for those who needed help, and made recommendations on things like "Sweet Tea Vinegarette" which was a first for us. It was delicious! Wish they would bottle it! The iced tea selection was also a welcome surprise. While I could drink gallons of Southern sweet tea, I don't like running off the calories in the summer heat and humidity, so the unsweet, and green tea options were a hit with our group. Conveniently located in the middle of the shops and restaurants of High Street. Casual, trendy atmosphere. "Build your own" counter service like Subway or Chipotle, but with fresh, healthy, wholesome ingredients, and lots of choices! I will definitely be back when I'm in town!

Great salads with a variety of choices. They have a number of light vinaigrette choices and nice atmosphere. Awesome for a quick lunch.

It's hard to get excited about salads, but Verde makes you want to come back for more. The location is nice, in the middle of the happening part of King Street. You walk in and can either choose one of their signature salads, or build your own as you move down the line (think Moe's or Subway). Last steps are choosing your dressing, whether you want it wrapped, tossed or chopped and whether you want bread with your greens. There are tables inside, or you can order to go (they provide nice containers and bags, good for any leftovers). They also deliver!

I got chopped salad with all kinds of goodies and balsamic. I got mine chopped and am loving it my daughter didn't really care for hers. It was dry and not mixed well. It was only 22 dollars for both plus bottled water not bad for lunch. It is certainly better than a fast chain and its right on kings street where were shopping ! Good find :)

Once I learned about Verde, the responsible Vegan and Vegetarian side of me had to try it. You should too. Here's why: Wide open seating at 3pm for lunch in a clean establishment with clean restrooms. A knowledgeable, polite, and efficient staff happy to answer questions. An excellent array of Vegan, Veggie, and Carnivore options in a choose-it-yourself format. Clear pricing on a large menu with very reasonable prices. Lots of dressing options for the salad, two soups, cookies, and many interesting fountain drink options. Eco-friendly bowls, tableware, and napkins, along with a place to recycle them. Decent tunes on the speakers, and several other happy customers. Keep the dream alive Verde, you're doing it right! Cheers from Chicago, CD

Verde really lives up to its name (thanks Dora). It's all about the green. I've been trying to reduce meat consumption lately, and places like this really make that challenge doable. Instead of bland piles of lettuce with copious amounts of generic dressing you get thoughtful and fresh ingredients creating, dare I say, flavor explosions. I know that's a bold statement for a place that specializes in salads, but it's true. Downtown for second Sunday, I popped in with family and had a beet wrap. My wife got the Farmer's Market salad, and my brother-in-law and his husband each had the Soba. One with tofu and one with grilled chicken. I highly enjoyed my wrap. It was fresh, earthy, and flavorful. Plenty of vibrant color and taste was packed into it. I sampled my wife's salad which was good but a little boring compared to the Soba. The Soba boasted a peanut sauce and Siracha. Anything with Siracha is okay in my book. The salad bowls were pretty massive, by the way. Verde is a place you might actually be able to get full from just eating a salad. The drink selection was nice also. They had various fountain drinks, canned coconut water, and Honest Tea (a personal favorite of mine). I appreciated the compost, trash, and recycling bins they had going. It's a place you can leave feeling good for various reasons. My family and I all left feeling comfortably full and refreshed. I can see Verde becoming a mandatory stop to many future downtown adventures.

I found this place just to be okay. I ordered a build your own salad, which was mostly just lettuce. I felt the four toppings I chose were barely in the salad at all. They only put a small amount of each thing. There was nearly not enough *in* the salad for me to be paying what they charge. The shrimp I added was cooked nicely and the dressing tasted fresh. (raspberry vinaigrette) This would not be my first choice for lunch on King Street.
(3)Vy D.
Salads are very fresh and there is good variety, however I felt the preparation was a little sloppy since I found avocado skin, the sticker, and chicken bone fragments in the salad.
(2)Lauren W.
Delicious salads! My favorite is the soba noodle specialty salad. The peanut dressing is delicious and the sriracha kick adds just the right amount of heat. This is a great lunch spot that provides delicious AND healthy options.
(4)Kelly D.
I love Verde and am so glad they opened 2 in Charleston!! The ingredients are so fresh and there are so many options!! Salads are absolutely delicious. I have never tried their wraps but definitely will soon! I have to say their sodas and drinks are odd and I prefer regular sweet tea or coke products but I guess it's all about being organic there. The southern harvest salad is amazing and recommend it to any fruity salad lover :)

I love my steaks and burgers but also like to switch it up often health-wise. Verde could be the perfect spot for this. Excellent location right on King St, very cool store design, huge variety of salads and very nice staff. Their packaging is also very cool and perfect for to-go salads for the office. I do recommend to order the Mesa Verde which is extremely tasty and also filling. Because some of the other salads may leave you hungry. I recently got their summer special with watermelon chunks and had to add extra avocado and chicken to it to somehow make it a meal. They certainly are very restrictive with their extras and you will always end up paying about 11$ for a salad which is ultimately still a bit overpriced. They do offer however 'Buy 10, get 1 Free'. Overall, very tasty salads in a hip location. If they were a bit more relaxed with extras (2$ for a tiny scoop of chicken?), this would be 5 stars.

It's basically subway for salads. Tons of options, all very healthy and fresh. Pretty affordable. For what it is it's good

At Verde, the options are endless. You choose your base (greens), add your toppings, cheese, and a protein, choose a dressing and get it chopped, mixed, or in a wrap. They also have "Signature Creations" in case you need help deciding. I opted for a mixed salad with romaine and added chicken, black beans, chickpeas, shredded carrots, beets, mandarin oranges, and goat cheese with a fat-free raspberry vinaigrette. It was shaken and put in a nice deep bowl. The convenience factor and the amount of toppings you can choose from is awesome. Ideally I'd top it with one of everything, but I'd need four bowls! The only downfall that I've noticed on both my visits to Verde is that they skimp on the protein like whoa. :( My muscles wanted more chicken! But the interior really makes me smile. So much lime green! And on the wall, you can read "green" in multiple languages! Eat a little, learn a little.

Love, love, love Verde. If it was a little cheaper, I'd eat here LITERALLY every day. My favorite is the mesa verde. Sooo yummy. Romaine lettuce, cilantro, black beans, chicken, tomatoes, red onions, corn, tortilla strips, and that amazing lime vinaigrette with a fresh squeeze of lime juice. SO GOOD.
(5)Kimber C.
Coming from California, it's refreshing to see that these places exist here too. Yea, the salad could be quite expensive if you decide to build your own. My suggestion? Get a ready put together salad. I got a special mexican type chicken salad with a lime based dressing.... it was delicious and healthy! The salad is larger than most that you get from a grocery store. It was light and refreshing. My bill was $9.95 after tax. I opted out of getting anything other than my salad as I took it to go and had water at home. ;-) I recommend this place.
(4)Amy L.
This place trumps salad works and had more exotic selections for salad toppings like heart of Palm, I never had it before so the girl let me try a sample. SOLD! I love this place. They also have unique dressings. I got pesto oil dressing. So amazing. My salad could've been paper covered in the dressing and I would've ate it. So good. They also serve kombucha and chia infused herbal teas. This place is a hit for nutrition and pleases the palette.
(5)Angela P.
I love salad bars and this place has grown to be one of my favorites for a quick and healthy meal. Prices are great and portion is perfect. The staff is always super polite and quick.
(5)Kenneth L.
Don't get it delivered pick it up yourself and look at it . got salad, ordered it one way it came another way called and told them about it was told people on line can't read won't order again

Great salads. Great sugar cane soda fountain. Good service. Parking is difficult on King Street.

I'm a self-professed salad junkie and judging by my bank statement Verde is my dealer! When I moved to Charleston in October I asked about a good salad place in the peninsula where you get to build your own and several people suggested Verde. The place is just amazing. The employees are fun and quirky and the whole concept - going green by eating green - just works. I probably eat there 4 times a week and have always had a great experience. In fact, I'm about to walk there for dinner!
(5)Christi T.
The first time we tried this restaurant we were excited but upon entering this location our first impression was that it was messy and unorganized. We must have just missed a lunch rush because salad toppings were everywhere! The counters and floor were filthy. Luckily the salads themselves are great! I love the chopped vs tossed option and the array of ingredients they had to create your own were great!
(3)Tommy R.
Great selection of salad choices and some really unique dressings
(4)Maddy C.
lovee verde, I have had both salads & wraps before and both are delicious. I am not even usually a salad person and I am obsessed with the mesa verde here. I've gotten their food at the store as well as delivery (they have online ordering). I would definitely recommend this place. Great, fast place to go to grab delicious salads or wraps! don't forget their cookies which are amazing & melt in your mouth I have even ordered them for catering at my work, and everyone was impressed!

We're far from being vegetarians, but after eating so much Southern cooking, we felt we had to eat a good salad and boy were we happy to find Verde. We were in Charleston for only two days (three nights), and in both of them we had lunch at Verde where you can make your own salad and walk out a happy camper. Everything at Verde is fresh, all the toppings and dressings are tasty, and the price is very reasonable. The décor is cute too and the staff is very friendly. I think it's a great addition to the otherwise-not-so-healthy local fair and I wholeheartedly recommend it. If you're looking for a good, fresh salad, Verde is the place to go.
(5)Kimmy R.
I saw an ad in the City Paper and decided to try this place. I was not disappointed. The salad was one of the best I have ever had! The staff was awesome, speedy and everything tasted fresh! While I am not a fan of soda as a rule, I decided to try theirs which is sweetened with cane sugar. It was great. It wasn't as sweet as regular soda and actually quenched my thirst. I had the Mesa Verde which I am going to be dreaming about. It was served with a chipolte lime dressing that was out of this world! It's so nice to have a great salad place in town. I thought the prices were fair considering what you pay other places for a salad that tastes days old. I also like that they offer the sald tossed or chopped. It was a great experience and I can't wait to return.

After traveling to Charleston and binging on local cuisine which is a bit heavy (and not vegetarian-friendly), I cleansed myself by going to Verde and having an arugula salad with various healthy toppings. Loved the way they chop the salad. Staff was exceptionally friendly!
(4)Kevin H.
My wife introduced me to this terrific place. The atmosphere is bright and energetic. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They have a huge selection of fresh "fixins" to create your own salad or chose from one of the many delicious featured salads that are made to order. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Joe C.
It's fine if your standards are not particularly high, and you just want to grab a light lunch. If you are a salad connoisseur, then I would recommend going someplace else.
(2)Pres P.
Verde is a great place to eat on King St if you are looking for a healthy alternative to the burgers, clam chowder, and all the fried goodness the South offers. They serve really fresh salads that you get to create and their dressings are awesome! The chipotle-lime vinaigrette is fantastic. The only thing I can knock Verde for is that they are kind of pricey. Also, I wish they had a bigger drink selection/had Coke products. Overall, this is the best place to get a salad on King and you will not be disappointed.
(4)Jay H.
I was on some horrible cleanse diet not too long ago in an attempt to rid my body of all the toxins I've absorbed over the past lifetime....Of the very few things that made this cleanse tolerable was the salads at Verde...Great stuff at a fair price. The decor screams "chain restaurant" but it is super clean and light and comfortable. Enjoy!

Verde, Charleston, SC Although I've seen some positive references to Verde, the new build-you-own salad place on King Street, I have to admit that I don't know what all the excitement is about. One of three bright green doors on King Street (all, by the way almost next to each other), provides your entry to Verde. You'll have to look carefully though, as their logo is easy to miss. Although we arrived at 12:30, usually a peak lunch period, there were only four tables of two seated in the restaurant. "Not a good sign," I thought. We proceeded toward what appeared to be the work area to see how "this works". In doing so we walked through the dining room which is incredibly stark. Some might say uncluttered, but there was no décor and besides a few hints at their concept "green", not much else. There is a running collage of the word "green" in different languages above the work area, but that's about it. So if you're going to Verde for atmosphere, you may want to keep walking. I can say that the staff is incredibly friendly and spent time with us explaining our options. You have a choice of four lettuce bases, 41 ingredients (you get to choose 4 before there is a $.50 charge per) and you can upgrade to add Roasted Shrimp and Turkey for $1.95 and Roasted Chicken for $2.25. There are also 13 homemade dressings that you can select from. I quickly moved through the line, selecting my items. Carrots, Mandarin oranges, crunchy noodles and crumbled bleu cheese handily made it into my salad. And although I thought a 1/2 cup of chicken was expensive at $2.25, I needed some protein to round off my selection. My husband chose the BLT Wrap that included Arugula, Romaine, Bacon, Grape Tomatoes, Croutons and Classic Buttermilk Dressing. We additionally chose a bottle of water and I picked a diet root beer (self serve) that was made with pure can sugar. Part of Verde's philosophy is that "Wholesome Food and Fast Food don't have to be mutually exclusive. Verde is for the "Health-Conscious and Taste-Conscious Alike." Well, with our experience, yes and no. At over $24.00 for the two of us for lunch, and considering that the wrap was $6.95, I had a bit of sticker shock. I thought that this was bit expensive for what we were served. My husband thought his wrap was a good buy at $6.95 and found it to be very tasty. My salad at over $10.00 was definitely not worth it. Don't get me wrong the lettuce was very fresh, the homemade dressing, delightful, but the overall salad itself was lacking. The piece of complimentary bread served with the salad was dry, as was the chicken. The ingredients were sparse, and it was much like an Easter Egg hunt to find them. The diet root beer was the star of my lunch (which is sad, considering I was at a place that exclusively sold salads), and the overall effort for lunch was just not worth it. So while others may write, "I love, love, love this place." I won't be joining in on that mantra any time soon.

We walked in mid-day on a Sunday, and rather than relaxing behind the counter as you find so many places, this team was actually CLEANING! They promptly got ready to serve us and we were off to a great late lunch. We had one of their standard salads and one of their specials. Both were great. We ate every leaf, and in addition, we enjoyed sitting in the window and watching the world go by. We will be back to enjoy awesome salads or wraps. Thank you, Verde! P.S. They have a freezer with King of Pops Popsicles. MMMMMMMMM!!!!!
(5)Marie M.
I go here pretty often because of the location and the great food, but they really need to work on their ordering efficiency when using the verde app. Not only did it a take way too long after even ordering ahead of time, they forgot something in my order! As pricey as this place is, at least give me what I paid for. Please pay closer attention..I'm sure I'll still eat here every now and then, but it'll definitely be a lot less often from now on.
(2)A G.
very fresh, fast and good. a little noisy.
(4)Kelly S.
Best salads in town, hands down. Everything is super fresh and organic, and the service is friendly and top-notch. I'd eat here daily if I had my way.
(5)Amanda B.
Was looking for somewhere a bit more healthy while downtown. Everything was really fresh and tasty. The wraps was surprisingly filing too! It was $20 for two chicken wraps which seemed a bit high! On the downside they didn't have the nutrition facts of anything (including the wraps or the dressing) which was disappointing.
(4)Matthew S.
Great location, great staff, friendliest owner, and plain old delicious! Will be back! Thanks for good light eating.
(5)Christina M.
This new salad bar is delicious! There are so many choices of salads you would've never thought of! All so filling and made to perfection! I especially noted that one of the employees named Francis is always so sweet and gives great suggestions! I definitely recommend this place!!
(5)Jessie K.
This was my first stop after checking into my hotel. Usually when traveling for work, it is such a challenge to find a healthy alternative for lunch. I live in the South and can appreciate good barbecue or fried chicken, but with an involved few days ahead, I was thrilled to feed on some good brain food. I sat to eat and wanted to knock out a few things for work, but one thing I was really challenged with was the temperature of the room. I was freezing my ass off while eating my chilled salad and chilled drink. I ate quickly and left as soon as I could. One really cool plus is that they have a "natural" soda machine. Great way to promote overall better healthy choices. If we drown our salad with a bunch of high fructose corn syrup, it wouldn't really be an authentic healthy experience. Good thinking Verde. :)
(5)Phoebe H.
I am specifically giving this location a five star because if it was the My. Pleasant one then it would be a two. That's how big of a difference good customer service makes. Our experience at the King St. location has always been stellar. The staff is quick and personable and are efficient at making your salad just as you please. At the Mt. Pleasant location the staff were sloppy and put loads of dressing on my salad...so much so that it had a inch of soup at the bottom of my bowl. I appreciate good portions and all bites created equal...and for that I thank the King St. Verde. The fresh ingredients are plentiful. My favorite dressing is the champagne vinagerette because it is so light and sweet but tangy. I'm obsessed with this healthy fast food option and wish I could have it closer to west ashley. I would eat there daily.
(5)Clare S.
I gotta say it: even though I could, in some realm of possibility, stock all of these ingredients in my own kitchen and then make my own salad... I don't. So if I'm on King and want a salad, it's either Caviar & Bananas or Verde. C&B is (usually) more expensive, but it often depends on your add ons at either location. Stand out dressings: the curry, the sesame peanut (!) Ask for half and half of different greens if you want! I base my own with half arugula and half spinach. They also give you extra dressing for free if you ask (just in case you've run dry half way into your salad). Four stars for the fact that if you're craving a heartier make your own salad or wrap, the add on prices start to add up.
(4)Brianna B.
I visit this place far too often. The kind of often where the staff isn't surprised to see you and has a good idea about what you're going to order. I choose Verde because: It's quick. I live on the go and often don't have time to sit down at a restaurant or make something at home. Difficult to find healthier options and quick service in the same location. It is conveniently located. There is one on the Peninsula and one in Mount Pleasant. There are plenty of greens. I need a lot of vegetables and leafy greens in my life. They have plenty of options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Homemade dressings. I can get my salad chopped - no work for me. Best tomato-basil soup I've had in town. I mean, it is perfection. That is all.
(4)Nathania D.
The salads here are always fresh and delicious! Their salad dressings are out of this world. I love that they chop and slice your salad with this cool double pizza cutter tool, very inventive! This place is great when I need something quick and healthy.
(5)Heather W.
Verde is BAE!!! The sweet tea vinegarette is to DIE for. Definitely try it for lunch...maybe not a dinner place. Kind of like. Super healthy subway but with salads
(5)Kassi G.
Fresh, cold, crisp, deliciousness! You can order one of their standard salads or create your own. First you choose the type of greens, then pick your toppings. I thought to myself "how good can this be?... It's probably going to taste like subway." Boy, was I wrong. The salad was huge and, honestly, anytime I have a quick salad craving...this is where you'll find me!
