Clean, big restaurant with great service. Great drink menu. Traditional delicious thai dishes. I enjoy the basil summer rolls and the veggie green curry. I ordered thai hot and although the heat level was a bit lower, the overall food quality was great.

Decent Thai food and a decent wine list Relaxing restaurant I ordered red curry shrimp - delicious. Made just the way it should be Wished it had more shrimp and more rice accompanying the dish but still worth visiting. Not expensive like others along king St.

Good: Waited 10 minutes for a table for 2. Quickly got a glass of water and our order taken. Bad: Waited 1+ hours for waitress to come by and give us an update on our SIMPLE sushi order (we each ordered 2 basic rolls). Our order was forgotten and ignored--as the waitress and host were boredly on their phones Instragraming by the front door. We were SO HUNGRY that we left to go somewhere else for food sustenance. Girls said nothing as we left--they absolutely did not care. After dining somewhere else, we walked by the storefront and saw our old neighboring table of 2 ladies (who were there before us) STILL waiting for their food.

Thai enthusiasts will love Tasty Thai on King Street downtown. I frequent all of the Thai restaurants in Charleston and Greenville, and have to say that Tasty Thai nails it all, at a pretty solid mid-range price point. They don't mess around with the spiciness scale - even a one-star spice order has some kick to it. Personally, like a lot of spice with my curry, so I went for 4 out of 5 stars, which may be my limit. Standout dishes: Pad Thai with shrimp (though I wish they would cut the tails off), Red Curry tofu, Pad See Ew. I haven't been too adventurous here just yet :) PS - You're going to pay slightly more at TT than you would for Spring Roll (just a half block up the street), as base prices are a few bucks higher and they only deliver through QuickFoxes, which adds its own delivery charge. However, the flavor of the Pad Thai and curries are definitely bolder, not dumbed down for beginner Thai eaters! I've always had a great experience with dine-in as well, but usually get take out.

This was some of the better Thai food I've had in a while. And for King Street, the prices were very reasonable. After lamenting over the outrageous wait times at a couple of other restaurants we wanted to try, my little posse from Virginia settled for Tasty Thai as they were able to seat us immediately and our stomachs were growling. Despite being seated so quickly, we did find the service to be rather slow, but still friendly. The restaurant is very large and it was completely full, so they probably could have used a few additional servers. Anyways, once the food came we all enjoyed it. I thought the drunken Thai spaghetti was awesome. The sauce was spicy as requested, there was plenty of chicken, peppers and onions. Loads of flavor and good portion size. My dining companion noted that the sushi was also very good.

Best pad Thai I have ever had hands down. I would ALMOST go to Charleston just for Tasty Thai. Every other pad Thai I have (and I have a lot) I compare to tasty Thai. And it's not as good. Amazing PERIOD! I can't even say enough. Every time I go it's all I want. I'm dreaming about it right now.

Very very very good! Came for lunch while shopping on King. Ordered the Pad Thai, Wontons, and Beef Salad and everything was excellent.

Normally I really like this place. The Thai is excellent and the service is good. My favorite are the fresh rolls and the curries. My husband always get cashew chicken. Lately the service at night has really gone downhill. Tonight for example my husband ordered a dish with mild spice that arrived too hot to eat. The waitress was so busy that she didn't get back to us for 20 minutes by which time my food was cold, our glasses were long empty, and he wasn't happy. No apologies and offers to take it off the bill either... I am so disappointed because I love Thai and want to support local businesses but with do many great restaurants in the area we will be looking elsewhere for date night!

Delicious food for a good price! My friend and I both got noodles and we got good-sized portions for around $13 each. We came in around noon and were seated and served right away.

On a recent business trip to Charleston, I made my first visit to Tasty Thai. I was wondering in the Upper King area and almost missed the location. On the outside, it's unassuming. The interior is nice. I was seating in the front area; there may be more seating in the back. It was relatively busy for 7:00 on Thursday. The hostess was pleasant. My server arrived very quickly with water and took my drink order. He returned in a few minutes to take my order. The menu is pretty standard for a Thai place but had a lot of options. I chose the Pad April with chicken, medium spicy. The entree came up quickly and was very good. It had great flavor and the right amount of spiciness. I'll definitely try here again the next time I'm in town.

Of all the places to get sushi in Charleston Tasty Thai is my favorite. The best roll I've had is the yummy roll but I've enjoyed every roll I've tried. The pad Thai is amazing along with the curry. Great atmosphere and service.

I came here because I was craving sushi while in Charleston. At the street view I was a little grossed out. When I went inside I was greeted with a horrible smell and hideous decor. I ordered my food and was surprised by the taste. The sushi was delicious and satisfied my craving.

I love Thai and when I go out I usually get panang curry or Pad Thai, but I thought is try something different this time. I got the yellow curry and it was DELICIOUS!! Way better than I was expecting! And I had to get their sticky mango rice for dessert to let my friend try it. He had to order one for himself. The service was excellent but they tacked on an 18% gratuity because we had a group of 7 but only 5 of us got food, so that was a little surprising. Other than that it was very excellent

Sushi was delicious. We ordered the one with fried oysters in the middle and tuna and jalapeño on the top. Red curry was the usual and so were the fresh rolls. Nothing out of the ordinary. Staff is nice but had to ask for a spoon to serve the curry and waitress didn't really come ro check on us after we got the food.

The lunch portions were a great size and very good. Had the Green Dragon roll which also was good. Nice laid back place.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Great service and food was very tasty. The tofu was a little tough but the veggies were great. The decor is nice but the aquarium seems out of place.

Had the pork Pad Thai spice level 4 and wife had the sweet n sour chicken with no spice. Both were exceptional. I added more spice- if you love spice don't be afraid to go for level 5. Egg rolls are a good appetizer; relatively light.

Poor customer service. There was a hair in my sushi normally you would expect a refund. Not only was it still on bill they acted like it wasn't even a big deal

Don't be fooled by the slight smell and ugly decor! This place has AMAZING FOOD. I had sushi and a curry appetizer and it was so good.

Unexpectedly good, the only reason I popped in to Tasty Thai was because they're on my credit card's rewards program. But I'm glad I did. I went with the classic "Pad Thai" and asked that they make it a little spicy. On a scale of one to ten, this was maybe a six. There was some heat to it, but it still tasted like Pad Thai and not like I was eating a fire. Plenty of chicken in there and a few veggies, it was hot enough that I drank the entire bottle of Chang I ordered to keep the temperature down. Service was good though maybe a bit much. I'm a slow eater, especially when I'm trying not to burn out my tongue. The waitress checked back a few times but once the food had arrived, I really didn't need anything. A few loud people over at the bar (the alcohol bar as opposed to the sushi bar) were enjoying their cocktails as they watched sports on TV. There is a weak wi-fi signal from one of the nearby bars that is free for the first half hour. I would return. One note - parking here is a pain. Good luck finding a meter on a busy night.

You could easily miss this place walking by on King, but t's worth keeping an eye out for. One of my favorite spots to grab lunch downtown. I usually go straight to the back bar cause the bartender who's always back there is great. The bar runs some crazy drink specials to help you get you woosah on as well. Fantastic lunch specials to boot. I have kept it coming on the sushi but, I have heard good things about other dishes. My favorite is the Great King Crab Roll (tempura shrimp and flakes, mango, and cream cheese wrapped in a rice and seaweed roll topped with crab and tuna salad, drizzled with teriyaki sauce). I first tried it at the "Get Your Roll On" local sushi competition. They took first place for this roll and had a sake fountain as well. I think it has a pretty decent bar scene in the evening too. I need to get back for dinner or maybe venture out to try different dishes but, it's tough when the sushi is so tasty. Maybe they should set up the sake fountain at the back bar and sake it to me.

We just love this place. Our go to takeout place every Thursday.. We always want to try something new but can't bring ourselves to order from somewhere else bc tasty thai is just too yum! Pad thai is pretty subpar, and crab wontons are ok but slightly sour (weird but still pretty good), but the pad see u is RIDICULOUS it Is so good. Pad kee mow and the yum ped (duck salad) are also awesome. Panang and red curries are solid, chicken satay a Is tasty too. Wish we could get frequent eater points here... Yum

We decided to stop in for lunch on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. There were a few people in there, which helped make it feel rather full since it has a small dining room. This was our first time in this restaurant and we were promptly greeted by the friendly hostess. She sat us at a table near the bar, which I like- as I was able to see the Sushi chef prepare my food. We ordered a California roll to start- it was huge! And tasted so fresh. The price for the size of the roll was right where it should be. My husband ordered a spicy chicken dish (you can get no spice up to super hot spice!) I ordered the Pad see-eu with chicken with no spice. It was DELICIOUS. The portion, for lunch, was enough for me to have later in the day for dinner as well. The flavor was spectacular and the ingredients were fresh and just so good. The reason I gave it four stars, is due to the staff. While they were very kind and prompt, they were very loud. I was trying to ask questions regarding the menu and I felt like my waitress was shouting at me and the entire restaurant could hear what I was asking.

This was the absolute worst restaurant I frequented in Charleston, and worst Thai restaurant I've ever visited. The service was HORRIBLE, waitress wss rude and condescending, food was just mediocre. Don't waste your time or money. With so many other dining options on King Street, don't stop here!

I love this place. I rarely go downtown, in the last year or so I've been there about 5 times. I will say that every time I did I stopped here. Food is delicious. Happy hour is great with the 4 dollar sakes. I've had some bad service once or twice but overall its not horrible. Other reviews complain about that, don't worry, the food makes up for it. Order the spicy udon noodles. My favorite dish anywhere!

  • Anh-Chi R.

Terrible service. I ordered takeout, and it was a very simple order, and they still managed to mess it up. I got all the way home (35 minutes away) and their only suggestion was to drive all the way back to get the food that they had missed on my order. I have better things to do than drive back downtown during rush hour when everyone is hungry, to get the food they had missed. It looks from their website like they have sister restaurants; I'm sure they could have set something up that was easier for me. Extremely disappointing.

Came back to Charleston and was back to Tasty Thai. Didn't have time for a sit down dinner so I grabbed some takeout. I looked at the menu for a minute then ordered. Was offered a table to sit at and water while I waited. 5 min later my food was ready and I was out the door. Very friendly service and the food was great again. Guess I have a new Charleston tradition!

I've eaten here twice now and both times the Thai food I ordered was unique, full of flavor, fresh, and generally awesome. Both items came from their Thai entrees and really couldn't have been more satisfying (1st trip: Lemongrasse, 2nd trip: Garlic - added spice to both.) They are happy to add or subtract spiciness to any dishes. The service the first time was pretty just okay, but the second time, the waitress was helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive. Both times I have gone, at least one person with me got the Pad Thai. And both times it was pretty meh. I would recommend being a tad more adventurous and get something you haven't had a billion times before. I also must add that I pretty much hate the decor. It's wall-to-wall hand-painted murals that make it feel more like a Chinese Super Buffet than a somewhat fancy downtown Thai restaurant. At least it's pretty dark in there... Another negative, on Sundays, they only do dinner portion and prices, even for lunch. Seeing as I went on a Sunday, I saw quite a few people leave after hearing this. However, despite my whining, the food more than makes up for the negatives. I would go back again, for sure.

Happen to be in there area ( and craving asian food) and stumbled upon this restaurant. First time eating at a Thai/sushi restaurant. We called ahead and had them set up a table for 7. On Sunday night at around 6pm, the place was surprisingly crowded. Service: we had a great server named Danielle. Very friendly and was definitely on top of things. Only downside, restrooms had no toilet paper so the ladies were given napkins. Food: not spectacular, but not bad. The thaI food was decent. We had a good phad Thai, so-so Phad see ew, and good fried rice. They charge extra for beef or shrimp (don't understand the extra charge for beef). The fish filet with three sauce was pretty good. The sushi was ok as well. We had good salmi and yellowtail nigiri. The red/orange roll was just ok. Value: I thought the price point Watson the high side. $14 a roll and $6 for 2 pieces of nigiri is pricey. Maybe it is the downtown location, but still on the steep side. Also got charged $2 for a small scoop of rice. Decent flavor but not the greatest value

If you like hair in your sushi, this is the place for you! I've been here several times and there is always an issue! The first time they were out of what a wanted, but of course I didn't find that out until after I'd placed my order and the waitress came back to tell me. The second time they overcharged my credit card which was a pain to fix! And finally, there was a hair in my sushi roll! It took a lot of willpower not to gag and run far far away! Save yourself the hassle and go get better sushi and better Thai food somewhere else!

RUN FAR AWAY! I have no idea why this place is rated with 4 stars. Leaving a bad review was a must after we walked away, completely grossed out by the food that was served. My husband and I both ordered the sushi lunch special (California roll, tuna roll and crunch roll) We're not newbies to sushi, but aren't snobs either. The meal came with miso soup. The soup - broth wasn't horrible, but the tofu & seaweed in the soup were terrible. Nothing fresh. The rolls - I would have had to submerge my rolls in soy sauce and still need more moisture. The seaweed was dry and chewy (not how it should be) and the crunch rolls came with one thing in them, freezer fried shrimp that had more tempura batter on them than any meat. The sticky rice had no rice vinegar on it and tasted like it had been sitting in a cooked pot for about 24 hours. Dry and crumbly. I'm a "finish all my sushi" type person but I left about 8-10 pieces on my plate out of the 18 we got. I just couldn't swallow it anymore. If you like sushi DO NOT visit this place. Nothing is fresh. Service was sub-par although I don't blame the servers as they seem to be under staffed (only 2 girls to bus, set and serve tables) during a lunch hour. Just NO. Dont try it. When I read reviews I like honesty and this is truly an honest but painfully truthful one.

Great sushi rolls and thai food at reasonable prices and with a good selection of craft beers on draft and in bottles. A casual, comfortable place.

After purchasing a restaurant.com coupon my boyfriend and I took my parents here. After a great start - the chicken skewers, the wings and the shrimp salad, which were all super good, we were excited. The margarita and one of the specialty mixed drinks got rave reviews. The tuna tartare was good as well. The reason for my 2 star review: our entrees were so disappointing! The duck salad and stirfry were both messy, the duck wasn't cooked well and shredded. The stirfry just looked thrown on a plate. My mom's fish dish, I think it was sea bass, came without rice and smelled really bad. Boyfriend and I both had mediocre sushi. Overall, I had high hopes but we left shaking our heads.

Very Good! I went for lunch and had the Crab won tons and the 8 piece Avocado, Shrimp Crunch. The Won ton's were freshly made and excellent and the sushi was awesome. Service was great, maybe a little too great... and there were a number of people eating. Not sure why there is negative feedback written. Definitely try it!

Thanks to Restaurant.com and a hankering for sushi, we ended up at Tasty Thai right as their happy hour was ending - $3 crab avacado wontons? Yes please! So delicious and crisp, yet light and airy, they were definitely something I'd get again in a heartbeat. Since we'd been on a heavy drinking and eating vacation so far, sushi sounded right up our alley as a lighter meal of simple foods to pick us up. With big appetites, we ordered 6 different rolls to split and were wowed with each one! Our favorite roll had jalepenos and tuna - addictive combo that left us wanting more the next day! Good things to note: Servers = Friendly, attentive, helpful Sushi = Huge pieces, limited selection compared to other places but a huge variety in the menu, fresh Atmosphere = TV's, small bar, back dining area that's darker/more romantic, front area has great views of people on King St, dark woods throughout the restaurant Between their great happy hour specials, nice staff and good food, we will definitely be back!

Had the panang curry which was excellent! Also went during happy hour (after 7pm on a weekday) which is unusual and it included their crab Rangoon for $4. Twist of avocado inside which I was skeptical about but delicious. I'll be visiting again soon!

We asked to see the menu before being seated, and decided to stay. There wasn't anything special on it but lunch prices were ok. We asked for a minute to look at the menu when our server arrived, and she left us for almost 10, passing our table frequently while we waited in a very empty restaurant. When she finally returned, we asked a few questions about several dishes, none of which she was terribly knowledgeable about, describing one ingredient as a root. Are we talking ginger root or potatoes? She then informed us that dinner prices are applied all day on Sundays, which the hostess failed to mention and is not stated anywhere on the menu. We left, which I never do. On a high note, their water is cold.

I heard food in Charleston was amazing. First stop... Tasty Thai & Sushi. Boy, I wasn't disappointed in the least!! Visiting from Los Angeles, I thought my standards would be too high for little ole' Charleston, SC. Far from! I found this place from my fellow Yelpers and I what a gem! I had the GKC roll (off the menu. GKC stands for Great King Crunch), fried chicken wings, and Pad Thai. Yes, I have a healthy appetite, I know. I finished everything and all three dishes were superb. I thought the Thai might be good, but not the sushi, or vice versa... but both were fantastic. The ingredients were fresh, the service impeccable, and the ambiance inviting. There's not one negative criticism I could give. Well done Tasty Thai & Sushi. I highly recommend!!

Walked in at 2pm on a Thursday. Only 2 waitresses on staff. They had way too many tables each. Poor management! Finally sat down and ordered the sushi lunch. It was hands down the worst rolls I've ever eaten. The rice and seaweed were both so dry. It was hard to eat. The side of "sticky rice" was steamed jasmine rice. I took one bite and had to wash it down with a gulp of water. Everything was dry and tasteless. They need to shut this place down. DO NOT EAT HERE!
