Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Located in the BiLo shopping center in West Ashley on Ashley River road is a really good pizzeria. South of Philly Pizzeria makes pizza really worthy of their name. i know this beacuse i grew up in the inner city in South Philadelphia, PA. I have had their wings and they put such flavor in those wings. Really glad i only live 1 mile from this gem in West Ashley because they are really good at what they do. Great food, great people.

Great local pizza joint. Tonight we had a NY style pizza. I asked for sausage, mushroom, onion, and green peppers. They left the sausage off. We weren't too disappointed because the pizza was still tasty. I also asked if they could cook the pizza a little longer than usual (we like our pizza crispy on the bottom, and theirs usually aren't this way). I don't think they listened to this request. The pizza was still soggy on the bottom. With that said, we still enjoyed it. We also ordered Zepps for the first time. We got the Rachel's Way ones with cinnamon/sugar and cream cheese icing for dipping. These, of course, were a special treat and not good for you...at all!!! However, they were little nuggets of goodness. They were fried dough, similar to an elephant ear/funnel cake. Worth the extra calories every now and again...a must-try!!

Fast and friendly service.... Lots of choices of sandwiches and salads and pasta dishes and specialty pizzas. Nothing fancy, but a great find in between plantation visits. The New York Style Pizza tasted surprisingly authentic. Great thin foldable crust with perfectly seasoned tomato sauce and just the right amount of gooey cheese. Yum!

What a little gem, tucked away in a West Ashley shopping center. I had a Philly Cheese Steak and my lovely lady friend had the meatball sub. Both were fantastic - piping hot with lots of meat and cheese. The sandwiches even came with free chips, shipped in from Philly just like the bread. Very authentic and on now on my list of faves!

Delivery was a good experience, and traditional calzone was good. Rosa linguini was EXTREMELY heavy and rich. Too much oil and cheese and will most likely not sit well with you, especially if you also have a bite of the knots- so rich and buttery. Too much of a good thing is not good.

Holy moly! We came in and were greeted very nicely and immediately! The staff was extremely friendly especially Aubrey! We were under the impression that they had 2 locations and the one closest to us closed awhile ago. We knew there was another location but we didn't want to take the drive out there.....well I'm SO GLAD WE DID!! The food was fresh and delicious!!! We had an Italian hoagie and a "da bomb" cheesesteak. I'm originally from up north where cheesesteaks and Italian "subs" are done right...they hit the nail on the head! Oh and def get the phresh cut fries and the zepps ( sweet deliciousness)! We'll be back soon!!

We have gotten food delivered to us twice from SOP and both times have been fantastic! I've tried 3 different kinds of their Zepps, all were fresh, soft and packed with flavor! The calzones were definitely in my top 3 of all time, and the pizza is better than any chain restaurant pizza in the area for sure. I could go on and on about this place. The delivery times are quick (approx. 30 mins for each order) and the people are all friendly. However, my favorite thing about SOP is the fresh ingredients! Handmade crusts, salad dressings, Italian sausage and more. If you're willing to pay a little more than the usual delivery pizza, you will not regret choosing South of Philly! I can see myself ordering from them many more times in the future!

The pizza is really good, we usually get the Sicilian. There have been a couple times I have ordered for delivery and that hasn't worked out too well. One time the cheese was completely slid to one side, one time the pizza was cold. Very friendly people, and for pick up, I have had no problems.

I've had the cheesesteak sandwich a few times. Great cheesteak, probably the best in Charleston. Ive never ordered the pizza, but they look good from what Ive seen. They give you a good amount of steak for your sandwich, and cook the shave steak slices on a griddle. Its all served on the traditional philly "Amoroso" roll. The service is pretty quick and the employees are all nice. I look forward to trying the pizza...just wish I lived closer.

You gotta try this place! We were headed to a different place, which was closed, when we came upon South of Philly tucked in a strip mall. What a stoke of luck! After consulting YELP, of course, we ventured in and found a no frills dining area with a long counter where you can watch the magic happen. All the cooking happens right in front of you. The staff is friendly and helpful and with accents that take you from the low country right to the front stoops of an authentic Philly neighborhood. And the food, even more authentic. We started with the garlic zepps, light puffy pillows of dough topped with garlic, parm cheese and what could only be love, delivered to our table piping hot with an ample portion of house made marinara or Sunday gravy. You'll crave these for the rest of your life. We had the Italian sandwich, lots and lots of ham, capricola and salami topped just the way it should be, lettuce, tomato, onions, and Italian dressing in a crunchy roll. The Eddie roll, not a calzone or a Stromboli, more like a pizza topped with meat , meat, and more meat , rolled into a log and baked all brown and crispy. Not a flattering description but a party in your mouth none the less. Their pizza is the best we've had in the Charleston area and we have tried a lot. Light, airy, and crisp crust, all brown and toasty on the bottom with plenty of sauce, cheese and toppings all molten and gooey on top. They also provide a house seasoning at the table, I think they called it their "Love, " parm, garlic, red pepper and their own blend of spices and a hint of sweetness add an extra dash of tasty goodness to everything they serve. Now after we had eaten all we could and more than we should, they brought us an order of Rachel's way zepps. All I can say is WOW! (My husband channeling Gomer Pyle said,"Shazam !"). More of that amazing puffy dough fried crisp topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar with little swimming pools of hot cream cheese frosting as a dip. Everything we had guaranteed we would be back for more. And wait 'til I get my my hands on one of those Philly cheese steaks! Mmmmmmm........

Great pizza... You have to let the piazza maker do their thing by ordering the PMC... You get to choose a topping you don't want on your piazza and the piazza maker will do the rest...

Their pepperoni is the BEST!!

Thanks to the reviewers we found this place with great tasting pizza. You can taste the sauce the cheese the mushrooms and pepperoni. I brought the pizza home and the car had this great smell of flavorful pizza. Also we ordered the Zepps with sugar and cinnamon and garlic zepps very tasty and buttery. My husband totally loved the pizza and we will go back. I would definitely recommend it to my friends! Great Job! Give it a try and I bet you will go back to South of Philly Pizza

This is the best pizza in West Ashley. Very tasty crust, sauce and toppings are all just right. We always order carry out, since the dining room isn't much. But this is the real deal pizza, unpretentious and straightforward.

Ordered a large pizza for pick up tonight. They were very busy when I got there. I had a short wait but my pizza was ready within the time they told me it would be ready. I was hoping it was going to be good since a large two topping was nearly $20. The drive home was mouth watering for a pregnant girl craving pizza! I wasn't disappointed! Their pizza is delicious! The crust was a little limp in the center by the time I got home but still sooo good. I will definitely be returning. Maybe I'll try a calzone next time.

Haven't had a bad thing yet. Everything is amazing from cheese steaks to pizzas to lasagna. The CBR Phries are also just amazing.

I've had a coupon for this place for months. I forgot that this place has delivery. I remember going to a friend's place around the corner from here and she always ordered the White Pie and brought it to the house which I remember being very delicious. The place is intimate and definitely reminded me of a pizzeria from up north. They staff was very friendly and quick to help. I did get a little confused about the drink situation since the cups for the drinks are near the front door. The menu had lots of options from pizza pies, stromboli, sandwiches including cheese steaks and of course pasta. I ordered the Lazy Man's Lasagna which came with 2 Zepps. There was so much food. I couldn't even finish all of it. The pasta was well cooked not over done which I have seen happen at other places. The sauce was made of what they call the Sunday Gravy with ricotta, mozzarella and provolone. Very rich and creamy. Then it was baked. Be hungry if you order this because there's plenty. If the place wasn't so hot I would be able to give it another star. Eating near an open kitchen area made it a little uncomfortable to sit inside.

Pizza is delicious, sandwiches are yummy, and the pasta is amazing! Delivery is fast and our order is always correct. A great option for quality pizza in West Ashley.

Best (and closest to NY style) pizza in West Ashley.

My husband and I were visiting Charleston for the first time and looking for a local pizza place. A few people suggested South of Philly Pizzeria, so we thought we would try it out. It was immediately clear why this place is a local favorite. We ordered Da Bomb, which more than lived up to its name. The toppings were plentiful, fresh, and crisp. The crust was just the right thickness and not greasy like you find with many mom-and-pop pizza places. It also came with a little container of seasonings to add (though it didn't need the extra flavor). We also ordered the original Zepps to try something new. I highly recommend them! What we loved the most about South of Philly Pizzeria was the excellent customer service. The person that took our order was patient in answering our questions (What the heck is "Sunday Gravy"?!), and the delivery to our hotel was incredibly fast. Everyone we dealt with was super-polite and helpful.

Best Pizza I've had since moving out of NY 22 years ago! Very tasty! The crust is delicious, and cooked perfect - not all airy or thin and crispy, although it was strangely on the thin side. My husband and I were able to polish off and entire pizza which is normally unheard of for us. Their zeppoli's are awesomely authentic. Definitely out go to pizza place for Pizza and zeppoli's.

Wish I had been able to check in but we ordered take out. We each got a calzone: The Apollo and the T-Rex. Fantastic. Simply. Chock full of ingredients and overall really tasty. The crust was fantastic and the homemade marinara was to die for. Zepps? Dear god we got the traditional and they are amazing. Like a bite of powdered sugar sent from heaven. Fantastic. Well worth it.

My husband and I are from Nashville,TN down visiting family and was told about Charleston Burger so we were going to eat there but when we got there they were closing up (even though it wasn't 9) and all the fry equipment was down for cleaning so we ate at the South of Philly Pizzeria. I'm so glad we did because the food was incredible!! The service was awesome, the staff made us feel like family and even brought us free dessert!! Customer service like this is rare and I'll be coming back here next time I'm in town!! My husband got the DaBomb hoagie/fries and I got the Italian hoagie/fries. Y'all rock!!!! Thanks so much, Marty & Tammy

This is the closest i've found to pizza from PA. The crust is close! Pizza is thin-ish and so you can eat a lot of it. Mushrooms, pepperoni and onions are good. Pepperoni ads to the grease don't forget. They have a spice container that is great to sprinkle on top.

I recently moved to Charleston/West Ashley. This is not a chain and a one of a kind pizzeria. This was one of the first places I got to eat at and it was delicious! The salads, pizza and cheesesteaks are all great! If you are a meat lover, get a large T-Rex. Their salads with the in house balsamic dressing is delectable. Their version of bread called Zepps are friggen awesome. Order extra because you'll want more of them. This is definitely the best pizza I've had in Charleston. And they give a military discount!

Awesome pizza!! Very fresh tasting & the employees are really nice! Definitely recommend their pizza!!

Stopped in today for a quick slice. In about two minutes, I had my cheese and mushroom sitting in front of me, hot, melty, and delicious. This slice was nice and crispy with a good crunch.

Let me start off by saying that I like this place...but...I found out on my second visit that my initial review went from 4 stars to 2, hence the average rating I gave of 3. The first time, I ordered one of their hand-tossed pizzas with mushrooms, pepperoni, and house-made meatballs. The dough was delicious! The mushrooms and pepperoni were good but the meatballs were basically shaved meat that was dry and not too flavorful. The sauce was really good and overall, I thought it was going to be my pizza go-to place from now on. On their website, they also advertise a Sicilian pizza. I figured that this would be delicous since I liked their dough so much. I noticed that the prices were a little extreme for this pizza, especially for adding toppings which were $3.50/4.50 depending on if you got a regular/specialty topping. But I assumed that this price would be worth it because this is a bigger pie so there would obviously be a ton of toppings. I was sooo wrong... When we opened the pizza box at home, we both just stared and said "hmmm..." We asked for mushrooms, feta, and their house-made italian sausage. The sausage was more like a dusting of extremely small meat granules rather than small chunks like I am used to and there were hardly any mushrooms or feta on the pie. After paying $31 for this pizza, I was expecting way more. Also, the feta was considered a premium topping, cost $4.50, and was definitely not fresh or of high quality. It lacked any taste and was rubbery in texture. Upon serving the pizza, I noticed that the crust was smaller than your average 1" crust for a sicilian pizza. I probably could have seen past this but then I noticed that the crust was mostly uncooked! It had that grey-glassy appearance and chewy/gummy texture of uncooked dough as well. At this point, even though I was extremely hungry, I decided to put my slices in my oven for about 15 minutes more. After 15 minutes, I noticed that the top of the crust was a little more crispy but the bottom remained unchanged in appearance or texture. I had no other food to eat so I had no choice than to eat this pizza. I was also not happy about how much I spent so I needed to make a go of it. It was not good. I'm not sure the last time I did not finish pizza leftovers but it has been 3 days and that pizza is still in there. I believe I will be visiting the trash dump soon. What I've learned: go there for the hand-tossed pizzas and stay away from house-made toppings as both the meatballs and sausage were disappointing never get the sicialian pizza again

All I can say is GREASIEST pizza I've ever had. I will pretty much eat any pizza put in front of me...this is the first pie that has been unappetizing to me. My friends who visited said their grinders were golden though :)

This is what you do at S.O.P. : sit at the "bar" and let the fine folks that work there entertain you. Start to talk sports if you dare, they will gladly offer their opinion on EVERYTHING, which I love. Order whatever you want, because it's gonna be awesome. If you're looking for a legit Philly cheesesteak sandwich in Charleston, you've hit the jackpot. Why else would they call the joint South of Philly? Genuine amoroso rolls, ribeye sliced just right so the fat is complimentary, and get it 'wit whiz' with whatever sautéed veggies you want; you'll thank yourself. Sandwiches come with a side of bagged potato chips and a pickle, but do yourself a favor and get some crabby phries....thick, house-cut French fries tossed in old bay seasoning! If you don't like that combo, they will gladly toss your "phries" in a multitude of other awesome seasonings. After all this, you probably want to throw in the towel. Nope. Get some "zepps" in one of their AMAZING dessert flavors and be a pure glutton for punishment. When was the last time you had small knots of pizza dough deep "phried", tossed in Oreo cookie crumbs, with a side of cream cheese icing to dip them in? I could review the pizza (always on point) or the wings (oven baked instead of fried, super juicy) but I will always hold a special place in my heart for the best philly in town. You won't be disappointed.

Best cheesesteak hoagie in Charleston! We've tried probably 10 other places and this has the most quality and flavor. Also love their Sicilian pie!
(5)Jessica B.
Having just moved here from Philadelphia, I immediately needed to find a place that had a delicious cheesesteak and pizza. Well, here it is! Their cheesesteaks are spot on to what I wanted! Their pizza was thing and crispy- with fresh ingredients on top. Things are moderately priced for what you are getting. I highly recommend going here. Support local places. Their staff is so fun and welcoming. They remember you when you come in, which makes it feel like home.

Gonna have to give SOP a 5th star. Best pizza out here in West Ashley, we are lucky to have such a great pizza place for those of us on Bees Ferry/61 without having to drive far! Plus, we've become regulars and the owners always ask how we're doing and really seem to care. That personal touch means a lot.
(5)Tish F.
This is the best independent pizzeria we have encountered in Charleston so far. If you are in search of an old-fashioned pizzeria/sub shop, and can tolerate (or adore) the clear Philly love, this is a must visit. We enjoyed the bacon/cheese fries to start and a pizza big enough to satisfy a catalog of teenaged boys. The crest was flavorful, sauce was authentic, fresh herbs visible on the pie, and meat to stick to ya bones. It was a bit warm inside, but on a 98 degree day, who can judge?
(5)Deb B.
The Philly was very good and the meatball sub was one of the best I've ever had. We got a load of groups for super cheap. The prices are great. The staff was very nice. What a great find.
(4)Carson S.
The best pizza or Italian food hands down! Simple and friendly neighborhood restaurant! T-Rex Calzone is the bomb!
(5)Sandy W.
Best pizza in town! If you like New York style pizza. Fried zucchini is excellent also. Very friendly staff. Sandwiches are a little expensive.
(5)Kyle B.
Excellent pizza made right in front of you. Everything is made from scratch. All of the employees were incredibly friendly, with one of the cooks asking us personally how everything was. Yum! I wish there were more of these places back in Indiana!
