Very well established brewery. Great scene with live music and food trucks on site. Staff was friendly and menu was very cool. As a craft beer guy from Colorado I would rate the beers above average with a few premium selections, I really love the pale ale. Merchandise was very well displayed and worth a glance.

Great place for some out of the ordinary micro brews but I sure could use some food so don't come hungry but thirsty is fine. I've had the now out of season, Ghostrider", and loved the little afterburn since it's cranked up with ghost peppers. Second time back , I chose the Ginger Slap and it's delicious. I've had the Colonel Rathbuns Farmhouse ale and really liked that one too. Great news ! I just found out they're opening up a kitchen soon ! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, live music on the loading dock on Fridays @ 5:30.

Had a grat time here learning about this local mirco brewery and tasting their different beers. The bartenders are friendly and super knowledgeable about the brewing process and what the place's mission is in this arena. There are so many beers to try, so grabbing the 6 tickets with the tour is plenty. This isn't a place to go get wasted, but rather a place to appreciate the work of these brewmasters. They also had live music later that night which gives the place even more charm and comfort.

Palmetto is awesome. First of all, the building is super cool. I love the way the courtyard is set up, and I love the artwork on the building. Inside is cool too. The bartenders were all nice and extremely knowledgeable about beer. This place has that microbrew feel that I love unlike the gastropubs who brew their own crappy beer. I tasted the pale ale, the espresso Porter, and the espresso Porter nitro. I LOVED these so much. Tho two different versions of the Porter were just amazing. I also tasted the wit and was not a fan, but I generally don't like those. In looking back at this review and the many times I used the word LOVE, I guess my point is this place is just wonderful in all facets.

This is a very nice place and we love their Palmetto Espresso Porter. We arrived at the tasting room on a Saturday evening and learned that they would be closing at 7 p.m. I thought I had read that they were open until 8 somewhere, but maybe I got it wrong. Anyway....we each had a beer and those were very good. The server was polite but wanted to be somewhere else. He musta had a long day. I'd love to return someday to spend some more time sampling.

The craft beer selections are great.Unfortunately the bar service fell extremely low in service . I would recommend a trip to Palmetto Brewery atmosphere fun. Good bands on Friday nights.

Palmetto seems to have the nicest and the coolest tap room. It is air conditioned with several fans running to keep the drinkers cool. The beers are always great, but I feel like they can do much more in creating different styles of beers to be served. Like more collaborations with other brewery's in Charleston. Having said that I really enjoy coming here and the tap rooms hours can't be beat on Fridays.

This place is the OG as far as breweries go in Charleston. They started it all and just about every brewery in town has a connection to them. For the most part, their brews are basic, Pale Ale, Amber, Porter, and Lager. They've stayed with those 4 for a very long time, but recently started branching out. With that said, their Espresso Porter is one of my all time favorites. I'm looking forward to their newer offerings in the future.

The construction is just about finished and Charleston's in for a treat. Downtown will finally have a full on brewery with a tasting room. I've seen the construction progress and they've done an amazing job. I went in last night for the release of the collaboration brew, Hootie's Home Grown Ale. Hootie & the Blowfish, Cigar City Brewing, Rock Brothers Brewing, and Palmetto Brewing... of course, all had a hand in this brew. A great event all around and Darius was there enjoying a beer while snapping pics with fans. For me, the sight to be seen is how far along this tasting room has come. They never had one until recently and now they've got a top notch beer palace. Rumor has it they'll open up for-realzies in early August. From the tasting room, you can see the giant brew tanks through the floor-to-ceiling glass. Inside the tasting room is all wood with a long bar hosting six taps (might have been more available?). The greatest thing might be the men's room urinals. They're fully functioning urinals hand made from keg shells. The most beautiful piece of artwork I've ever pissed in... I think. While there's plenty of space in the taproom, the real draw for this soon-to-be downtown hot spot is definitely the courtyard space. You walk right into it as you enter the gate. It's been fully renovated, has another 4 tap bar, and is set up as an outdoor music venue. If fact, the best way to get an early glimpse of Palmetto is to check out their Friday concert series they've been doing every week with Awendaw Green. They've been working on this renovation for a while and it's great to see the whole thing coming together. Finally we'll have a proper tasting room that's caught up with the quality of beer that Palmetto's been releasing over the recent years. Speaking of which, please bring back Ghostrider... Thanks.

Great beers in the heart of Charleston, SC. Their brewery tour is small, but historic and interesting!

On a recent trip to Charleston, my siblings and I planned to make an afternoon out of visiting local breweries. The weather had a different plan for us so after trekking through the flooded streets of the city, we made it to Palmetto about 1.5 hours before closing. The bumper to bumper traffic was worth it because we were greeted by jovial bartenders and friendly patrons. We all enjoyed flights before going on a tour a bit after the scheduled time - usually there is one every hour. The crowd was light that day due to the storm but we greatly appreciated the flexibility of the establishment. Our tour guide personalized the tour by generating a conversation based on the types of questions we asked. Definitely one of the better brewery tours I've been on! The tasting room was great! Nice layout and great prices. The environment was extremely welcoming too. We are looking forward to going on a Friday night when the brewery hosts an evening of live music with food trucks nearby.

Awesome awesome awesome! Great beer, friendly knowledgeable staff, two great bands playing = an excellent night! The beer is great, and very reasonably priced. Tried the ghost rider, the IPA and the coffee porter. I'm not much of a porter drinker but wow! The best porter I've ever tried. If you appreciate good coffee, give this one a whirl even if you don't normally drink dark beer. It's amazing. Smooth, rich, smoky, but without that burnt taste that many darks finish with. Loved it! Music was also lots of fun, with two great bands to entertain the crowd. Theres a food truck outside to get some dinner if you like (as a vego, I actually opted to head to desano's a few blocks away for a pizza as there (unsurprisingly!) wasn't much for vegos at "Bacon me crazy", the truck that was there the day I visited. Everyone else seemed to be enjoying the food from there though! No problems bringing outside food into Palmetto.)

The staff is the best and the music is great! Tons of beer choices ..you must try the Ginger Slap!! The only drawback is that Mishell isn't here anymore!

The next day we went to Palmetto, which is located just up the Road from The Citadel, and in Charleston proper. They had a really polished looking set up inside. I think they recently renovated to be more bar looking. Same chalkboard style, probably 12 on tap, were setting up for a band, picnic tables outside, etc. The inside didn't have much seating. The outside didn't have much seating either. They didn't have a single IPA. (that's a bad place to start). I had a Ginger Slap. I liked it pretty good. My wife and son has various versions of a pilsner. These were just ok. I also tried a "Nitro". This is a beer using Nitrogen, rather than CO2. It had more of a head, but no bubbles in the beer. Personally, didn't care for it. They had a food truck outside the place, Someone's Grilled Cheese. Didn't look like much, but if you were hungry... overall, I give Palmetto a meh rating. They did have a smaller size glass, like a 8 ounce, so you can try more without getting too full.

Great atmosphere as well as service! Loved the rustic feel and decor. Drinks were excellent and the servers were well versed in the product they were serving. In addition, there was great live music that made it comfortable and enjoyable.

Spent a rainy Saturday afternoon here and had an awesome time! They had a food truck outside (umm Pep Rolls are my new food obsession, perfect drinking food). We did a few flights to try the beers, and both my husband and I fell in love with the nitrogen-tapped Espresso Porter. It was as smooth as a latte, you won't regret trying it! Next time we're in the Charleston area, we will definitely be going back!

Last stop on micro-brewery quest in Charleston; not far from Historic / Downtown area. The most polished, and, I believe, the oldest of the micros I visited -- interior is warm and inviting, incorporating reclaimed wood in the bar, tables, etc. My inner geek was delighted by the digital beer-board (which showed remaining keg capacity at each tap). On the evening I visited, the place was exceedingly quiet. Beertender seemed a bit apologetic, but quietly sipping a brew while reading at the end of the day was just the ticket. Having sampled widely earlier in the day, I hunkered down with a Hootie's ale (yes, that hootie) -- excellent! Outstanding ambience -- lots of palm trees in interior courtyard area. Great experience !

This place is the real deal and are doing it right. If you like good beer, good music, friendly staff, excellent food truck food (courtesy of Carolina Creole), nice crowd of people, then this is all you need for a Friday night in Charleston. Brand new tasting room is spacious with glass walls to see how their tasty brews are created and a knowledgable staff to answer any questions about the process or the selection of carbonated malt beverages. They don't have restrooms, per se, but "beer recycle" rooms. Unique and novel. You'll have to see them for yourselves to get my drift. Live music outside in the beer garden rocked until 9:00 PM. Two excellent bands on a beautiful Friday night. Beer selection was very good and a Black and Tan mix of Hooties and coffee porter was stellar. Charleston is really coming into their own as a hopstination for beer lovers and all the breweries in town have their own special attributes. Palmetto is the flagship of them and being the oldest brewery in South Carolina this side of prohibition, is one not to be missed.

LOVED this place! We road our bikes here on a whim and almost didn't have enough room for the glasses and growlers in our bike baskets. We had so much fun sampling the beers and the staff was so nice and easy to talk to! Loved the espresso beer

Am I the only one who has become obsessed with the breweries in town?! One of my favorite things to do when people are visiting is to show off all the great beers we have - and Palmetto is always on the list. Palmetto is the oldest brewery in Charleston, and located downtown so it's pretty convenient to all areas of Charleston. If it's crowded, parking can be tricky, but you'll get over it once you're inside sampling their delicious beers. The people that work there are so friendly and knowledgeable, I never leave without thinking that I can't wait to come back. Hooray for beer, Colleen

OMG! My boyfriend and I are somewhat of brew tour aficionados and this place takes the top spot. The people are laidback and nice but even better is the beer is just amazing. Between us, we tried about 7 types of beer and loved every single one of them . The new tasting room is gorgeous and a major plus is the bathrooms are easily accessible for when you break the seal. The worst part is deciding what to get for souvenirs! Colin was our tour guide and he was just a good guy and you could tell he took pride in working there. Classic video games, very cool decorations. I only wish this place was closer and that they could ship us their beer. They also gave us great food recommendations and it just really was a highlight of our vacation overall. We really want to come back and visit Charleston sometime in the next year and we will definitely be spending even more time at Palmetto Brewery! In fact, they are the main factor we want to come back, they just made the whole area seem so great!
